Google Maps does not move with GPS - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

When I'm driving and Google Maps shows my currently location, as I move out of the area, the GPS arrow moves too, but the area map does not move. Is it supposed to be like this?
How can I let the Google Maps automatically load new area maps wherever the GPS spots my location (just like a stand-alone GPS unit) ?
Thanks.

click on MENU and make sure the USE GPS is checked...

Yes, it's checked. That's how I know the GPS is in use, initialized, and the my current location (represented by an arrow) is present. As I drive away, the arrow moves out of the frame but the map does not change. It stays put. I have to manually scroll in the directly I'm headed just to reload the map of my current location

Hit the blue little dot in the lower right?

open your keyboard and press 0 (number)

Yup, that's seems to be the only "manual" way to do it. I was hoping it would recenter the my GPS location "automatically", without having to press on the blue dot, opening up the keyboard to press "0", or to scroll and flip through the screen.

If I hit the blue button on mine, the map gets centred on GPS and it starts tracking again.
Very occasionally it stops tracking (possibly because it loses the GPS signal?), but hitting the blue button always starts it tracking again.

uninstall it and download the latest version with the latitude locate feature, mine was doing it and it works now

That's exactly what I did and it's fixed now. What's neat is that when my arrow is centered and Google Map is moving with me, when I scroll in the direction I want to see ahead, it stops tracking. This gives me the liberty to scroll ahead in any direction I want, zoom in, out, and pan. Then when I want to see where I'm currently at, I just hit the blue dot and it continues to track me again. The area map moves with me.
Now, if only we can get Google Map to NOT point North all the time so that I don't have to hold my Fuze upside down if I'm heading south

Turn off A-GPS and it should work. My friend had the same issue. I think it has to do with the stock AT&T rom not having an A-GPS server linked.

It works now. It didn't work with the "leaked" (test) AT&T ROM I was using. I'm using the EnergyROM now and it works just fine.

gps location for contacts

I have been searching all overr and I'm yet to see am amswer for my question? So I've cdcided to post it on the best site for htc phones. is there a way aside from the app, Pinpoint to show where you are? I mean like what I want to do is have google maps app be able to save my location and adress using the gps and allow me to save it to a contact so that this way next time I want to get to my aunts house for example I can just go to her info click adress and voila. It has a route sshowing me the route.
A strange sense of deja vu washed over me reading this, I was thinking exactly the same thing a few hours ago.
Being able to save GPS information for contacts would be something of great importance considering the devices capabilities, apps like AndNav2 could then use contact GPS co-ordinates for quick navigation, the same could be said of google maps and other applications that use GPS information.

Can't you just save an address to the contact and then click on get directions? Or does the location have no street address?
Well yeaah that too. I was thinking of that but the thing is, my cousins house doesn't show up through maps. But it tells me the coordinates using GPS and yeeah it can still give me directions like that. Soo yeah, its sort of a half and half.
For locations without street addresses, you can still map them using lat/long coordinates. Just enter the coordinates into the address field as x,y. For example, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave would be entered as 38.89767967065576, -77.03656196594238
The My Maps Editor application might be of some use too. Basically it lets you display and edit custom maps (which means overlaid graphics on actual google maps) on the G1. Since these overlays are static, it won't route you from an arbitrary location. However if you want to see a hiking path from say a fixed street address out to a lake in the middle of the woods, this could help.

AndNav2 uses OpenStreetMap for it's navigation and metadata retrieval, and currently the UK post code search is limited to a few post codes (Zip codes). Most of my contacts won't show up. It will get better in time.....
Thanks Jashsu. Really, Like That really does help and is a very good substittue for an app. But yet another, question, Is It just my phone or Is it Google Maps, THat has a bug, When i know im home and i just want to mess around and activate gps and see my location. And it shows me some where 20 blocks away, lol i hate that!!!!

it's a google maps issue, which really screws with me when tryin to use Locale. i had a situation set to put my phone on silent if it is between 2 am and 12 pm AND i am at home, but since it thinks i'm about 1/4 mi away it hasn't worked yet.

The more powered off the gps is when you attempt to access it (and also the worse your direct view of the sky is) then the longer it will take to get a good gps lock. If you habitually turn the gps function off (or you have a program that automatically does it) then every time you turn the gps on, it has to perform a cold start. This means it will take between one and five minutes to get a bead, depending on the number of satellites your phone can see at the time.
If you use gps often then don't turn it off. The amount of power saved by fully unpowering the chipset is not worth the amount of power it consumes fully cold starting every time you need it (not to mention the time wasted waiting for it to get a bead).
If you used the gps function and then left the gps-using application or put the phone into standby, the gps chipset remains in standby. The next time you access the gps, it will be considered a warm start and will take between 1-30 seconds, depending on various factors.

OpenStreetMap meta data collector

Went out and mapped the streets of a town a couple of days ago and came away with a better idea on how to make things easier for myself, in any case turned my preliminary ideas into an app for the Android.
There is a lot of room for improvement, and I still need to figure out how to plot the currect track on a gmaps page to show what has and hasn't been mapped to make it more useful for doing the whole thing paperless.

From a comment on the Android Market:
Keeps GPS tuned on when exiting app with home button. Poor battery.

You can't "exit" an application by hitting the home button, it can/will still run in the background unless you hit the back button which does exit most applications.
Also new version, this one displays a gmap as the main screen and you can hit the menu key to add meta information about your current location, on the gmap your GPS trace will be shown so you know where you've been.

GPS (SATs only NAV w/cache maps)?

Got a question. How hard would it be to develop a program/code for the G1s internal SAT only GPS to use SD stored MAP/s?
I am using the G1 without a data plan and have seen Google Maps over my home Wi-Fi. Now I noticed that in Google Maps program you can clear the Map with the [More] menu option or rather you wont have a map if you don’t have G3 or W/LAN, however with GPS enabled (SATS only) you can still see your heading bug or (circle where you are) on the screen with grid lines under it. If you move around the heading bug moves with you. So what’s that for other than to have some other Maps overlaid? If not then what’s the point in having a heading bug move over grid lines that only lets you know your moving (that is with no map)
Hmmm
Why cant another menu option be add to the OS that gives you a [Cache Maps] selection in Map mode (GPS SATs only ok even aGPS). Allowing the third party maps to be stored on the micro SD card and selectable. I would prefer the maps (just regular maps not SAT picture maps) to have limited zoom capability say 5 mile legend minimum to limit size. I am not asking for a full blown third part GPS navigation program with turn by turn and search just a nice minimum zoom map overlay so I can see where I am at.
Any comments
Or is there something already out there that I don’t know about.
Ok sorry there is and its called [AndNav2] see the link below:

The only app so far that I have seen that does verbal turn by turn navigation is the TeleNav app, but I really don't want to pay $10 a month for that, and I still have a regual GPS in the car for now, although it does need new maps it work for the time being.
As for turn by turn without verbal cues there are a few ways to accomplish this, one is Bing maps, it will give you turn by turn directions. Also you can create tiles for internet sites like Mapquest, and Google Maps, just open the site in your browser and go to the get directions page, then what I have done is zoom into the logo on the page with the name and in the lower right corner tap the three dots and a menu will appear that gives you the option to "pin to start" which then creates a tile on your start page that links directly to that page and the image on the tile is the zoomed image of the webpage's title where you zoomed in.
Hopefully in the coming months there will be more option for navigation apps, and verbal turn by turn, the OS is still very new and everyday there seem to be many new apps. Time and patience will tell.

Compass Type App-> Point to coordinates?

I am traveling down to watch the Space Shuttle take off, and planning on taking pics. Problem is, I will be at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center, and won't be able to see it lift off. Will see it only after it clears trees.
May be overkill, but I'm wanting to maximize the sort amount of picture opportunity time. I would like to determine the Lat/Long of the pad (Not sure if I can do that or how), and have a compass app that could point to that location. That way I can have the camera and tripod setup and ready at least pointing halfway accurately.
Any suggestions on app/process to do that?
I guess no luck.
If I come up with something, I'll post back.
Try GPS status. I know you can put a marker in.

Last time I was there, the pad was a ways past the entrance of the space center, and then a couple of miles to the left. So if you come up on the center, with the center on your right, the pad will be roughly at your 10 or 11 o'clock.

Google Maps?
Why not just use Google Maps? In compass mode with GPS on (if yours works) it will show your "exact" position and the arrow will show where you are pointed. You should be able to tell where the pad is from the map view, or possible better in the satellite view mode, and point yourself right at it.
I have never tested this on my own phone. It does works with my Garmin GPS attached to my laptop.
You can enter longitude and latitude directly to the Google Maps search bar using decimal notation, e.g., 37.771008, -122.41175. You can then save that location with a star on the map (or, at least take that information with you to Kennedy).
See this: http://maps.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=18539
Determine the longitude and latitude of the launch pad before you go and save that location. Near launch time get a fix on your current location then turn until you can get a bearing on the launch pad.
All this aside, the chances are everyone there will be looking in the right direction well before the rocket lifts off.
