Ok here is the deal. I am no complete noob. I googled. I searched the entire forum. What I found was Memmaid and SK Tools. Both do not seem to work properly on my device. I have M-Diamond 1.4.
My problem is, that program memory is filled quite quickly. After a soft reset I have about 45 megs. Device works good. After a day, it is only 40 megs. After 2 days 35. When I reach 32 megs, the device is not usable anymore. Messaging is ultraslow. My homescreen gets messed up. HS++ disappears and the skin gets changed.
After a soft-reset everything is ok again. But I do not want to do a soft-reset again and again after 3 days.
Here are the current services sorted by usage of memory:
filesys.exe 9.42M
device.exe 6.90M
gwes.exe 3.40M
shell32.exe 2.46M
cprog.exe 1.92M
services.exe 1.23M
tmail.exe 1.14M
s2u2.exe 1.09M
+ 11 other services with lower that 1meg of usage
Currently free memory is exactly 35 Megs.
Please spare me with comments like "use forum search" or stuff like that. I did that already.
To anyone who gives me useful advices and perhaps helps me solve this:
Thanks in advance!!!
Hi there. It is important to know what all the other 11 processes are in order to see what is eating up your ram. I use FreeupRam which comes with SK Tools quite effectively. I also use TaskMgr to check what apps and processes are running and close unnecessary ones. You can close tmail for example.
I am not sure what device you are running etc what rom, WM6 or 6.1, you need to give us a bit more info. I am not sure what you mean by M-Diamond 1.4?
What other apps do you have installed? Eg. HTC Home Customiser and PhoneAlalrm were playing havoc on my today screen after resets etc and certain plugins would not display properly or not at all. After uninstalling these and replacing everything with Spb Mobile Shell, I now have a device that works as it should and it suits my requirements 99%.
It seems like it is something else causing the slowdown. I am running Task Facade, S2U2 v1.52, Spb Moble Shell, a couple of Mortscripts, etc and have between 39mb and 45mb free ram and my device is pretty snappy, even when using hardware keyboard and switching to landscape and back.
I suspect it is a plugin or similar app slowing your device down.
Ok here is the full list:

Ok, now I can guess which the culprit is... and the winner is........*drum roll*...
ULTIMATE LAUNCH!!!! and HS++ do not good bedfellows make.
I use HS++, b ut only as a one-liner to see battery temp, battery drain etc etc.
Just try running your device without UltimateLaunch and you will see the difference. I tried it out for a very short while and that was my experience.
Hm ok, I will try without UL. Is there a better launcher you can reccomend?
I had UL deactivated for a while. And I had no real measurable loss in memory. Just a little bit. I believe that if you have multiple tabs in UL and they get loaded they take memory (for icons and such). I have no today plugins integrated into UL, so this is not the reason for huge memory loss.
But now comes the clue. I reactivated UL and just some minutes later I suddenly had 50megs of free memory instead of the 44 megs I had before.
Have to monitor this for a while...
I use Spb Mobile Shell which is commercial, but I am very happy in general and I can highly recommend it. I hardly ever use my today screen anymore. It is fast, snappy, reasonably low on resources, there are many themes available and I like my current setup.

1) anyone out there tried SPB Backup to restore an old ROM after a WM6 flash??
2) Whats the story with some SPB Applications causing problems in WM6, in particular, does SPD Diary, Mobile shell or Phone Suite cause problems.
I know that some of these questions have probably been answered somewhere, but please be patient. Searching through all those threads for answers can take a long time.
You can't restore an older ROM with a backup application, just like you wouldn't be able to use old Win XP system restores on Vista.
There are options to restore some registry entried after a ROM change, but for the most part they are unreliable, or cause hang-ups.
With regard to SpB Applications- a lot seems to depend on the combinations loaded. I've used Phone Suite, Diary and Mobile Shell together on a succession of WM6 ROMs with no bother- admittedly there is an initial memory leak, but it settles down after a few hours and is then stable on my device. Other have seen much greater instability for some reason.
I have tried the spb software on several WMs. At the beginning I was really impressed with what they offer, how they look and feel and how much different they make the phone. In the process though I realised that they consume a lot of memory, (both storage and rom) and they cause severeal problems in other functions such as the Bluetooth, the today plugin, the wifi, e-mails.etc.....
Now I only use SPB Weather and nothing else (with LVSW Latest ROM) and this is only because it has a template where I can place the local weather of the area I leave, believe me if I find something else, I will do so....
On WM5:
No problems whatsoever with any of the Spb softwares... Except PocketPlus which also under WM5 has a (though small) memory leak.
On WM6:
Huge memoryleaks (which indeed seem to settle around 18 megs free) with most applications; aspecialy with PocketPlus. Phonesuit seems to be the only app written for WM6 as well; and is the only troublefree app.
In terms of functionality and looks, the Spb software is top-notch! On the coding side however, they could have made it a little less memory- and resources-consuming...
But PocketPlus, PhoneSuit and Weather are that much important to me, that i switched back to WM5 this week, to have it all back troublefree.
My 2 cents...
Hi,
I've read a lot of pros to deactivate TF3D and install Mobile Shell because of the performance, and i was hoping to hear from people theirs pros and cons and i DON'T mean "i like TF3D bla bla" but an explanation too!!
I thinks it's a lot of storage to be used, or can it be installed on the internal memory?!
TF3D lasted about 20 minutes for me, it looks great but didnt really give me what I needed, when I needed it.
I found it dreadfully slow and fairly clumsy ...yes, I know you can tweak it to the N`th degree now, but still seems to be more cosmetic than funtional. Just a thin flash skin over WM6, and it resorts back to WM6 when you have to do more in depth things with the phone.
I guess I was biased towards SPB Mobile Shell though, as I`ve used it on my last 2 phones (Tytn and Tytn II) and love the way it simplifies and speeds up using the phones. It is not just an improvement over the TF3D but also Windows Mobile. Far more user friendly!! (finger friendly)
I have the latest version on my diamond and love the ability to thumb/finger scroll through the options/section just as well as the TF3D, it`s still layed out well, although I don`t like the way they`ve done the frequently used/favourite programs bits... I liked having the start square infact I prefer the layout of the previous version (9 squares rather than the 6 squares and the messy favourites bar at top.)
It doesnt look as lovely and unified as the TF3D but I realise that you can change the theme. It can look a bit garrish with the multicoloured icons .
The now (today) screen is far more useful on SPB as you can add/remove options.. still not as customisable as real today screen (I probably haven`t found all the plugins tho ?)
I would download the trial as see what you think.
I give TF3D a big thumbs down and SPB Mobile Shell a big thumbs up
Hope this all makes some sense / is of some use, as am slightly sloshed *h*i*c* !
Where have you installed the progam files? In the internal storage or RAM (i guess it's called?!))
I installed it on the phone rather than the internal storage, seemed to be plenty of space. Never normally install to the phone area but feel (rightly or wrongly) that it helps running from phone memory ?? Still loads of room and phone flies along. Doesnt seem to as big an issue as it once was.
hi bro,
being an experience user with spb shell, can you kindly share with us with some skins that you are using?
I have the latest version of SPB Shell (though not installed at the moment as just flashed with a new ROM.
I prefer the SPB Shell as it is alot smoother and faster switching between the menus and the main today screen can be configured to give alot more info than the TF3D one.
For those that like to know the weather it gives you a breakdown of what the weather is going to be like at various times of the day rather than just now (I can look out of the window for that) and even the 5 day forecast can be viewed to see the expected weather at various times of the day.
As for skins the default ones that come with it are only different colours but having a choice of colours from scratch is better than the plain TF3D.
SPB Shell is very configurable compaired to TF3D but still not as configurable as some other Today screens unless like th eother poster said it comes in the form of other plugins.
I have it installed to normal phone memory and everythings fine. I haven't tried installing it to the internal memory but figure if I have to reinstall it if I flash a new ROM anyway I may as well make sure that it's cleared for a fresh reinstall.
Deffo one to give a try if you want something other than TF3D - smoother, more configurable, more skin options, ability to add more plugins.
I have to agree that TF3D is not something that is usable. As a matter of fact, I am very close to labeling it as a piece of crap. All the bad points of TF3D has been posted in this forums countless times and I do not want to repeat it. I am sticking with TF3D is because of one reason only. That is because it's the Diamond's identity. If I were to use other today plugins I would not have gotten the Diamond. Diamond and TF3D is like coffee and sugar/milk (depending on how you like it). Without it, the Diamond loses it's identity.
How about battery usage? Any difference there?

I agree with you. But where can TF3d Themes be found?
I have found two .theme files that works and easy to set up. O2 Blue and Orange Lite. But it would be nice to get something like the White Diamond
I think its better explained this way:
SPB can house many more functions. If you need your phones apps the whole day long an need to navigate your small system every minute, TF3D is really not the thing. SPB is very good, and takes care of every single corner on your phone. Highly skinnable, and fast.
I tried it, but you know, it's too much for me.
I like a lot of apps, but I don't use em every day. So I want to fast check Email, SMS, or weather, or make a call. For those basic functions I think TF3D is the best. Just grab phone, Thumb-thingy to the right tab and off you go.
I don't need something TF3D cant do. Well, some minor things, like agenda and tasks, but I guess that'll be fixed in a few weeks
I'll vote for the Shell too: I tried Flo, really tried as it looks so good, but found it was just unworkable!
Shell is clean and simple, and fast. Also, I use a P3600i in some situations (such as when I really want to hear incoming call rings) - using Shell keeps me to a common interface.
These are the setting that I use:
TABS Home TODAY Date
Time SPB Shell
Weather Owner
Dial Tab Messaging
Calendar
Fring
SPB Menu Internet IE/Opera + Favorites
No Data
Fring
Internet Sharing
Comm Mgr
Multimedia Media Player
Camera

File Browser
Rotate
Lock
Profiles
SPB Backup
MemMaid
App to Date
Programmes (auto)
My Menu 1Calc
TomTom
Ozi

I run TLR v3 - clean and stable.
Unrelated to SPB Mobile Shell, my final 'make it perfect' was to get rid of the ring delay by:
Diamond Phonepad skin: HKLM -> Security -> Phone -> Skin -> Enable (set 1 to 0), then reset
It all depends on what you do with your phone. I tried SPB Mobile Shell and it worked nicely. Quite happy with it. It's faster and more user friendly compared to TF3D. The homescreen also looks nice and it has a nice feature where you can move your finger in a downward movement from the taskbar to choose between the 3 pages of the shell. Although the Now screen is not very customizable (maybe it is with correct plugins?), the other page u can change every shortcut to programs and such. It's nice, but I don't tweak my Diamond anymore as I used to. I saw the Orange Theme with TF3D and I liked it alot. The analog clock looks great. If you're new with the Diamond and ur tweaking and changing and everything, I suggest you get SPB Shell (or just disable TF3D). But TF3D still looks better (orange theme that is)..
I just need to find a white .tsk theme for wm6.1.. All I see is grey/red/purple/whatever... Goodluck with this..
I've tried searching with no effect.
I've got IgoV8 installed on my phone, running the latest Hyperdragon rom.
If I have manilla disabled then Igo will run no problem, Enable manilla and it won't load. No errors, nothing.
Tomtom works fine. Anyone got any ideas?

You probably not using the latest version of the IGO8, I'm using 8.0.0.44366 and it runs smoothly on all the latest releases of HDIII as well as on some others (see in my sig below) I now that previous vers of the IGO8 had compatibility problems.
Cheers, just checked my device and i'm running 8.0.0.31442.
Will try an update.
I have a lot of problems running iGO when I have been running without a reset for a few days or I have multiple programs running..
iGO seems to demand a lot of ram to startup.. Not sure if it's some free/largest chunk type of check or if it truly attempts to load and it bombs out. I see the spiny busy cursor for a second or two then nothing else.. No messages from iGO.
I've pretty much given up on using it anymore.. Even when I do get it running by exiting most everything or doing a reset it seems like it only runs at most 20-25 minutes before it crashes.
BTW, I don't run Manilla or such, but I do run SPB Pocket Plus with Phone Alarm, SPB Weather, KaiserNotify, and Flexmail as my typical load.. And when I'm on the road, I typically also run TrackMe. This gives me about 30-35m of ram free typically, and when iGO is running it 'only' takes about 8m but it could need a lot more to startup, not sure.

Do you run HTC home? I had such problems when i have used Dutty's roms (not manilla), the conflict between Igo8 and htc home is a well known issue and you can find many posts on that.
I can get Igo8 to run correctly with Manilla2D (8.0.0.41506) so an upgrade should do the trick for you. this version seems to have a lot of problems if you minimize or exit the program. I think you are right with the ram, because occasionally Manilla2D will be closed when igo exits. I'm left with a screen that says "Click here to start touchflow2d" or something similar.
but a lot of times I just want to minimize IGo. and it is impossible to get it back if the running programs taskbar is hidden by manilla2d. running the program again opens a new instance, and causes all sorts of problems.
It wouldn't be so bad if Igo8 appeared in the task manager as a running program, but sadly it does not. I'm using the Opal task manager that is compatible with Manilla2D (XDA-Team TaskManager_2_1_34563_3.cab). Anyone know how to make Igo8 appear correctly as a running app in that task manager or any other solution to this issue?
All sorted, upgraded to 8.3.
Can you please sent link where can it be downloaded
Does anyone know of an alternative to TouchFlo 3D. I spoke to an HTC technician who told me that he uses a better program for his Diamond that has better response times etc, but he wouldn't say what it was. I was complaining about the response times on the phone.
He probably meant PointUI, SPB Mobile Shell, Winterface or any number of alternatives. Been trying SPB Mobile Shell 3 which is pretty good (there's a free trial) but my fav so far is PointUI (free "light" version) - http://www.pointui.com
There are also a couple of iPhone clone interfaces in the Development and Hacking section.
Thanks a lot for that echolock. I am just downloading the free Pointui to the phone. Do I have to disable TouchPro 3d before loading it or will it do that automatically. I am fairly new to the phone so please excuse my ignorance.
Yes, you have to disable TF3D before using PointUI.
After all, if you decide to keep PointUI instead of TF3D, you have to flash your phone with a naked Rom so you gain space and memory.
Do you know how to disable TF3D. My phone is an Orange branded one if that makes a difference. They use thier own ROM. I can't find a way to disable it anywhere. I have downloaded Pointui directly to the phone but I can't start the program. It isn't in programs. I have found it in my documents. Can you help.
Go to start-settings-today, under items, untick touchflo.
Thanks for that. TF3D is now disabled. Any idea how i load Pointui onto my phone now?
Download the program (which is a .CAB file) to your computer, then copy to the phone (storage card is best area)
Then, using FileExplorer, naviagte on the phone, to the location you saved it, and click on the program, it'll ask a few things, just click the left soft button.
Thanks for that. Installed it and works fine. It does seem beeter than the TF3D.
I use scott seligman's launcher on the standard windows today screen,it just add's program icon's to today screen, one tap open's any application,no sliding this thing here, flipping this there, scrolling up or down.
It's not finger friendly though, unless you have pointy little finger's,or usually use a stylus anyway, but it doesn't get much faster or less resource hungry than this simple app.
WAD from lakeridgesoftware.com is pretty incredible
let me know what you think
My X1i seems to be running a lot slower than it used to. I'd expect some slowdown, but not this much. Switching programs is often jerky and when typing text messages the text will not display for a while as it has to catch up with itself.
I was wondering if there were any good free registry cleaners or system optimizers that are avaialble for Windows Mobile. Ideally a 'free' one.
I have tried Mobile Registry Cleaner 1.0 but it wont install with Vista Sync Centre.
ANy help would be appreciated.
try this,
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-cleanram.html
its not a reg cleaner but will free up ram to make your X1 work quicker.
Scroll down to the Mobi download tab and install without activesync its a cab file.
SKTools ftw.

Seconded.
ClearTemp alone is enough? I can't find a working link for fast cleanup and only a version from 2004
