streaming video to G1 - G1 Apps and Games

looked around and didnt see a post here in the g1 forum but it is possible to stream movies from your computer to your G1. just go to www.orb.com and your set. best of all its FREE!

can you be a little be more specific, it will be helpfull if you explein a little a couple of steps for this and how can you watch it on the g1.
note: I'm not trying to be ungreatfull

I just try it and is GOOD (running it, on my wifi) a little slow when watching a video but defenitly watchable, I think if they develope a software for the android like the one for Iphone this will be a killer application.
In order to use it you just have to download the software from the site and create an account, share your media files videos, mp3s, pics, documents and even your computer webcam. allow it in your firewall. Then just log in from your g1 browser, and you are good to go and enjoying all your files in your g1.

I used to use this all the time with my Wing and Tilt. Unfortunately, the video has issues. It doesn't work on the G1 through 3G as of yet. Rumors have it that Orb is in the process of developing an app... but that was spread around back in November. Who knows what happened with it since.

Be also interesting to see devices as PMP's with video out capabilities... something like vPOD's

I am able to get the video started over 3G but the video player keeps telling me "Sorry this video can not be played". I still hear the audio but the video always freezes on the first frame. Has anyone else tried this and got it to work?

Same problem I've had. I have been able to get a couple videos to play correctly, but I have not been able to figure out why they played and nothing else would. Oddly enough, even the ones that would play once would not play a second time.

you can do this with "gmote" also it much easyer

Androrb was just released. Check it out.

Has anyone been able to stream to the G1 using VLC?
I have tried using the same settings as the ones from the G1 video encoding thread (and lower), but it just won't play.
(I know the OP posted about Orb, but with such a generic thread title, this shouldn't count as off topic or thread stealing...)

I do want a DLNA / UPnP app for Android. I can get Tveristy working for streaming music, but it won't stream & transcode video.

I've gotten this to work in VLC in my LAN but not from outside yet. It took me forever to get this far, and I kinda just chalked it up as progress, and haven't done much with it since. Use the rtsp address in NSW or Meridian or whatever on your phone.
need to set h264 to 1,2 baseline and audio to aac in advanced settings first
Code:
:sout=#transcode{soverlay,ab=42,samplerate=44100,channels=1,acodec=mp4a,vcodec=h264,width=320,height=180,vfilter="canvas{width=320,height=180,aspect=16:9}",fps=25,vb=200,venc=x264{vbv-bufsize=500,partitions=all,level=12,no-cabac,subme=7,threads=4,ref=2,mixed-refs=1,bframes=0,min-keyint=1,keyint=50,trellis=2,direct=auto,qcomp=0.0,qpmax=51}}:gather:rtp{mp4a-latm,sdp=rtsp://0.0.0.0:5554/stream.sdp}
In your Android video player:
Code:
rtsp://local.server.address:5554/stream.sdp

Is T-Mobile blocking ports? I just tried that method in VLC and it works great with WiFi on, but with 3G I can't get anything.

Is there a decent player for tilt ?

ive tried like 5 different versions tcmpc and youtubeplay and I cant anything to play consistantly. any suggestion ?
What do you mean 'play consistently'? Are you having problems with music playback, or movie playback or both? Or are you having problems playing youtube video's through TCPMP? Perhaps you can elaborate
thanks for replying? Im trying to play a video off of youtube and the first second will start to play, then it will freeze up. If its not possible so be it. I just want to know if this is normal or is there something I can do to fix this
Are you on EDGE or 3g? It could simply be a buffering issue if I'm not mistaken. Have you looked into Coreplayer instead of TCPMP
I'm personally having serious problems playing videos off the non youtube website but can play videos (with lots of pauses for buffering) from the mobile youtube site.
If you're simply trying to play videos from the mobile youtube website, then I suggest you download the FLV plugin for TCPMP and configure your settings correctly. The correct settings can be found on the ytpocket.com website.
I don't know if you have 'flash video bundle' installed which some have said has helped them watch videos straight off youtube. It personally didn't work for me and so I've given up, but try viewing threads detailing issues simmilar to yours.
Flash Video Bundle

Edited to add: Coreplayer can only be purchased, it's not a freebee like TCPMP
well most of the time the phone displays HSDPA. I hope buffering is all it is. My cellular video plays fine. Ill try the coreplayer thanks.

Why not simply use vTap?
It can prebuffer the video or it can play directly from site if you use flv!
Also with vTap it is realy simple to search and you can watch videos from other sites too!

Is there anyway to get Coreplayer to launch directly from Youtube, or do you have to access it directly through the player. Also, do you know how to create playlist from videos viewed from youtube in coreplayer?
I've found that Streaming to TCPMP, with FlashVideoBundle, does not "keep alive" the connection. If I'm surfing the web everything is copasetic. I have Tweaked my phone to kill my Data Connection after 3 minutes. Surfing the web, it doesn't kill it after 3 minutes, or it reconnects supa-fast. But If I'm watching a You Tube Video via TCPMP if I'm not careful after three minutes 15 seconds the video stops and I notice my connection has been killed.

Coreplayer YouTube not working?

YouTube works fine in Opera and the Streaming Manager app but in Coreplayer Mobile it just constantly brings up the loading symbol when selecting a video.
Anyone else have this or know a fix? I am on Jacks 1.3 Lite ROM with the YouTube registry fix installed.
That's strange. Youtube works for me in Coreplayer. I am also using Jack's Lite Rom 1.03. I did not try if it works in Opera though.
You got to activate networkaccess in corplayersettings for youtube

It is ticked already
I can't get Youtube to work in Streaming Media
Have you tried ticking flv box in the file extensions/
I got an email from CorePlayer makers saying there is a bug and they are fixing it in the next release
I have come across a problem with Coreplayer and its YouTube, so I have decided to use this thread instead of starting my own using the same title.
Coreplayer plays YouTube movies. No problem with that, even more it plays them in excelent quality (setting h264 medium quality, flv high bandwidth). But for some reason it cannot stop them. When the video is over the loading sign (rotating circle) appears and the screen freezes. After a couple of seconds I hear audio as if the video started to play all over again, but the screen is still frozen on that last frame. When I press any button the audio stops as well and that is that. There is no other solution than removing the battery, which annoys me greatly.
Does any of you have the same problem and have you been able to solve it? Coreplayer plays youtube with the highest quality by farand would really like to see it work properly.
Anybody else with this wierd Youtube problem?
Except that it freezes my phone like, every 5 minutes, it works fine i guess.
Too bad I have to reset my phone every time, because if i wouldnt had to, it would be a good piece of software.
Using Coreplayer 1.3 btw.
Well I am pretty disapointed as well. The video playback of original divx files is jerky and if I have to encode I might as well encode to a file media panel recognises. And now the youtube thing. There are still podcasts, I hope I will not come across a problem there.
huh?
i dont get it... my coreplayer plays youtube great, and divx great... i did have the youtube option dissapear mysteriously, but i re-enabled it in the network setting and its worked great ever since...
ive watched 2 movies in divx - one was a fast paced action movie and it played absolutely perfectly the whole time. maybe you need to have certain settings ticked, or maybe the fact that ive used the various tweaks in this forum to speed up my sd card, and to optimize my cache settings and such is helping...
more info may help resolve this...unfortunately i dont know much technical jargon.. i fiddle until things work.
I got my core working again with an update, but the standalone youtube player and panel is MUCH easier and better to use.
Hi, i work with an HTC Touch Pro 2 and on it with the newest CorePlayer. But i can not watch any Youtube Videos. I can search, and browse the different categories. But when i want to start a video the player gets back to the starting screen.
The "normal" video playback works fine.
Why? Anybody else with this problem?
PS: I have activated the network settings.
Youtube has made a change to how their protocol works. CoreCodec knows about the isue and they said they have alreay fixed it on an internal build. Sadly we will probably have to wait a very long time for the fix to be released.
here, some videos work, some others not, like the 70% of them, just try to open but stop downloading without image
Anybody else getting this problem again?Youtube videos stopped playing for me since tuesday,i'm running coreplayer 1.3.6 windows mobile.
Yes same her, my CorePlayer 1.3.6 stopped playing Youtube end of July.
Is there any update out there?
Yep, doesn't work...lame

Camcorder record mpeg4 or wma?

Can the camcorder on the Dream record in mpeg4 or wma format?
If not, then is there a way to convert the native video using the phone, so I can then email the converted video immediately afterwards?
I very much doubt WMA will ever be able to record, Maybe a third party app can do mpeg4, As far as converting, best off taking it off sd card to a pc. I wonder if ffmpeg could run on android. but i would be afraid, and it would take 4 months to convert the video
I believe the camera records in .3gp
If you are on a hero build you have the option of mpeg4 or 3gp. If you are on cupcake it is just 3gp.
Thanks for your replies. Im on cupcake so just 3gp it looks like :-(
I wanted to make a short video and share it immediately via email to work colleagues (who dont have the luxury of a media player that can play 3gp, and work computers block all streaming video from the net, so uploading it somewhere is a non-starter).
I'm a novice but have flashed a few different roms onto my G1 - can anyone suggest a stable Hero build that's not too laggy and awful (as I gather most of them are)?

I'll look into these roms, thanks.
Unfortunately my colleagues can't install anything on the work computers, so VLC player is out of the question.
Sorry, just noticed you said that Youtube wouldn't be an option. You could still try Qik - perhaps it's not blocked. I'll leave my post as is...
Another option would be to use the YouTube upload option and then just send them the Youtube link to the video.
Or, if you'd rather keep the file from public viewing, you can use the "Qik" app and upload it to a private Qik file and provide them with the password.
You wouldn't have to worry about converting the video at all that way and everyone could play it.
Depending on the length of the video you might be able to send it to them as an MMS.. I'm pretty sure .3gp is a standard format.
Another thing to consider, if they have quicktime installed on their computers it *might* be able to play the .3gp... well, let me rephrase that, it should play it, but might not have the proper codec for the video so it may come through as audio only, but it's worth trying anyway

[Q] VLC Stream And Convert

Anyone got this working over rtsp?
It works beuatifully on my htc desire even 1080p stuff
But on my vpad all it does is "buffering" then failed to buffer :S????
i never got this to work on my gtab either. i get buffering and then i hear audio but video never shows.
didnt really work for me either... but the vlc remote works pretty good for watching movies on a media pc!
Subsonic streams great. Find it on the android market. Download the server to your desktop. Quick setup and it's good to go. Simple interface too.
i dont want a music streamer, i want a video stream.

The latest beta release – Subsonic 4.4.beta1 streams video. Just add the folder where it says "Add music folder"
interesting
Ive got gmote to work with rockplayer
Ill try subsonic now.
i get perfect video but no sound lol.
anyway for it to not play in the browser but a player?
Not sure. I haven't tried it like that. Encoding is done to flash and it seems the client app may be a necessity, so I'm leaning towards no, but I may be wrong.
works pretty good. somewhat simple to set up. kinda confusing cuz everything is basically written for how to add music.
kinda don't like that it needs browser to play and can't seek with the seek bar. but it works. too bad its only a 30 day trial.
ok ill buy this thing if it will work with non flv
Which i think i can get working using ffmeg.
Its extremly Good this program wow.....
i got every single video to work. even the High profile tv episodes i have. converts everything on the fly to a flash file for streaming. only thing is that the quality is pretty low and when i turn it up, i get a lot of buffering. could just be my wifi though. have to play around with it a bit more.
yeh all my files work now,
Did u mean i got a player to play the flash file not Web/flash?

I think I read somewhere that after 30 days it asks you to donate but will still function. It does get a little pixelated at high framerates. I'm happy it's working for you guys.

[Q] Anyone try Plex yet?

Plex just released their app for android today. Anyone try it on their nook yet?
I´m about to buy it!
Any early adopter has it yet?
Can't wait to try this out, but need to get home and get the media server installed first.
Funny I was just reading over on edgadget about the playon app for 2.2+.
Looks like this will give us netflix? Much better deal than playon which is subscription based and requires 2.2.
Wow, that looks effin sweet. So much for workin on my android app tonight...
works great on evo. doesn't work at all on nook :/
Works on my nook, (1.01, rooted) but quality isn't that great; laggy and audio goes out of synch sometimes. I'm guessing because the format of the video transcoded and sent by plex server isn't supported directly by the nook hardware; If plex could sent the appropriate video format (H264, baseline profile) I bet it would be much better quality.
No video for me....but music works.
Video does work on my droid x.
Hopefully they'll get it working and come out with a netflix plugin for the windows server.
I'm downloading it now seeing how it work on CM7. i report back tomorrow.
Try Subsonic (http://subsonic.org). The android app is free, and the server is donationware...supports multiple platforms (windows, mac, linux), streams audio and video, can be configured to transcode to/from whatever you like by way of ffmpeg, and it's just pretty durned awesome all around.
This is coming from someone who's been on a quest to find the perfect streaming platform since the Treo 600. I've got a dedicated server running Debian Linux w/ 3TB of storage, a 1Gbit connection, and all of my media stored on it. I've tried VLC (too wonky, could never get it to work), Orb (flaky, poor quality video, had to be run on a Windows virtual machine, wasting memory), and a bunch of others.
Was waiting for Orb to get their act together and release an actual linux client, when someone told me about Subsonic. Had it up and running in 5 minutes, streaming music (as MP3) and video (as flash) to my phone and Nook, currently, since they are both running Gingerbread....but it should be able to be tweaked to whatever format you need, and it's stable and resource friendly. I can't believe I didn't find it sooner, but the package blows me away.
Last night I drove to work streaming music to my phone, and playing it on the car stereo via BT....an hour's drive down the 60 freeway, and not a single interruption in playback. It buffers 3 songs ahead to withstand even extended signal dropouts.
It's just brilliant.

I finally got the new version to work for my Nook Color. Here is how:
