Hey guys I live in california and have a Union bank of California account and I want to do online banking with Opera but it seems to not allow me to get to my next screen when I type my user name... the site is www.uboc.com is it because it doesn't use java? I can get on my WAMU account.. any fixes for this? Thanks
Well, it will be hard to find any fixes specific yo your bank homepage unless you provide your login details, so, that we can check the requirements for your bank access.
I do remember that my BoA was not accessable from any of my mobile handsets, even though they were listed as 'compatible'. My bank just did not allow my handsets to access the page for security reasons. It took me over 1 week to get their web developer department convinced that "MOBILE BANKING" does not make sense without actually allowing mobile devices to access it ... !
The symptoms were the same as you described above, just nothing happened when I tried to log in - in some rare cases I was bounced back to the mobile banking homepage again ...

Yeah, some banks websites wont let you login from a mobile phone due to "security reasons". Try the Skyfire beta though, as it let me login to my banks website when Opera and IE failed.

I have Skyfire beta which is an awesome browswer to watch porn I mean youtube haha j/p... but I read reviews and comments saying not to browse with skyfire because its beta and it can be viewed by people first... will Opera ever support java and be like skyfire later down the road?
I thought Opera had a feature that allows you to either have web pages you view; receive you as a PC, or as a mobile. But I can't find that option. Am I thinking about a different browser, or am I missing something.
Next, I would use Opera more, but it has the "auto" clear-type enabled, and that doesn't allow some of my web page data to be viewed. So, I use IE instead because I can disable the clear-type for IE in the Advance Config program.
Any ideas about these two issues. I would REALLY like to use Opera exclusively. I'm told that Skyfire is not safe, as they record your passwords and usernames for bank accounts, etc.
I used a different way to block ads on my laptop using Google Chrome. This works differently from AdBlock. This is a manual way. A bit difficult to grasp hold off though.
So basically using Google Chrome's JavaScript console you take off the bits of code that represent the ads and the ads vanish.
I was wondering whether this could be implemented somehow in an application. This app would run the website. Then you would get a similar version of the Javascript console, you would take off the ads and then the app would let you access the rest of the website.
This could be an amazing add-on for a web browser.

You should do some reading and learn (if you need to) Javascript (and jQuery) and look into writing a Chrome extension that would remove elements from a page with a right-click -> delete type action. Also, with Chrome you can get to the element much quicker. Right-click and do "Inspect element". It opens the dom explorer with the selected element highlighted so you can just right-click it and "delete node". Much quicker than manually scrolling through the dom.
Incidentally, the only problem with doing it manually is that the hidden elements are there next time you visit the site, or if you refresh the page.
Thanks. Im just a 17 year old kid with big dreams
Just working on getting my way around VB and Java. Will try to learn something about jQuery after my prelims end.

If you're going to be doing some Java then that would be a good intro for JavaScript, which is a web based scripting language, but it has its origins in the same roots as Java so there are similarities in syntax.
I was an 8 year old kid with big dreams I stuck with them and I've now been working as a professional developer, writing windows software, mobile software and web applications for about 16 years. If it's what you want then stick at it. You're post proves you have the right mix of creativity and curiosity needed to persist with development. I just hope you're good at maths too
thanks it was helpfull
Blocking just the visible page content will never be a 100% proof. There are plenty of javascript ads that generate the content on the fly.

So you just hide it once it's generated. There's always ways round it. Just nothing generic.

If you don't mind do it on each page refresh, go for it...dealing with the source is the way to go, not like this.
I personally don't use Chrome, I prefer Firefox and AdBlock there works magic, it works at the root of the ads and also allows block visible parts on the page as well.
Revenue generation
You know you shouldn't really be blocking those ads as it helps pay for these sites, including xdadevelopers. Those ads are the key to keeping these very informative sites free to everyone. If there are certain advertisements that bother you, then I suggest finding something that blocks only certain ads, say just block popups but not the banner types.
I don't mind ads at all on websites like XDA and most others. I was referring to websites that ask you to complete surveys and select ads in order to reveal their content. I was frustrated with the general concept and the limitations that Ad blockers had.
The regular ad is ok, but ad infested websites is what I dislike.
They wish to monetise from the content they have, that is ok. But when people start getting greedy, that becomes a problem.
So, as there are countless members of this community, i thought it would be best to ask here.
Im getting tired of firefox so i switched to IE9. I use the tracking protection feature which is basically a built in adblocker etc. Unfortunately, all the list's that exist for the filter, sadly sucks. One claims to have all the same things imported from Adblock Plus which is a firefox addon and its the best adblocker ive used. Never 1 add or pop up. But anyways, all the lists suck. Is there any programs or secret lists i could use that dont show up on the website? I love IE9 its just annoying that its adblock ability's suck.. It blocks some adds but not pops up and it makes a lot of websites have issues working..
Ive looked through cnet but most have to be paid for.. does adblock plus have a version for windows and not just firefox and chrome?

For IE9 you'll want to visit this link:
http://wiredhut.blogspot.com/2011/08/all-in-one-adblock-resource-fanboys.html
Basically all you're doing is adding fanboys adblock list to IE9 by clicking the "Add TPL" link here:

I've looked myself and have found nothing to replace th one two. Though some browsers such as UC browser have built in ad blockers. UC does a decent job of catching a lot of the ads.

Go to adblockplus.org on your phone and download that apk. You can create new apn settings if you plug in the adblock proxy on it. You will also have to configure the proxy on any WiFi network you connect to.
Hi can anyone recommend a decent as blocker without root
Thanks in advance

Well, you can use Adblock Plus, but many don't like it (me included) as it has its issues.
I'm running without one except for browsing, I use the paid version of Lightning, it blocks ads very efficiently and is a very good browser, too.
For all else I'm waiting for root
Thanks for the reply. I did try adblock plus was giving me problems too I'll give lightning a go

i hate ads on mobile devices, but chromes compression proxy works very fine. it almost lower my data 1/3 when browsing. so external proxys for ad block is no solution.
if you want good ad blocker, that creates hosts file, you need root.
Adblock edge on firefox is nice too. Firefox for android is surprisingly fast.
try UC browser
Now browser material pro, specifically that version as well since theres various versions of now browser. Look for ad block on the app description to be sure.
Also Javelin browser. It loads pages in the background in a widget overlay that appears as a dot on the screen. I find that annoying and it can be turned off in the settings. I have a reference number to gift it to two people so first 2 to grab it can have it: http://javelinbrowser.com/gift/4Osgq/
The first browser runs much lighter on the battery but it's been quite some time since I ran Javelin and it may have been improved since then.
Both of these browsers have been featured in xda if I remember correctly. Both, I think, need ad blocking enabled in settings. I just checked Javelin and I think it is the case for Now Browser as well; used to be part of the first run set up.

Wh00t? Firefox has to be the slowest laggiest browser on the platform. My experience.
UC HD is the best overall atm IMHO.

I've been using Naked Browser all the way back to my Nexus S days. It has a great adblock built in, and it's very quick.
in my opinion adblock doesn't work without root successfully.
only with root and adaway i am happy.

Hi,
I'm seriously tempted by the Z5 compact (I have a Nexus 5 ATM), but I'd want root access mainly to use an ad-blocker (my preference is AdAway) - is this possible on the Z5?
I didn't think root could be achieved without some serious compromises?
Thanks for any info
Let me tell you about my config.
I think it keeps most of the bad guys out.
- Firefox with Add-ons
- Blu hell firewall - the desirable lightness of Bluhell balances with good performance
- Clean links - cleans & resolves URLs that have been shortened or proxied
- Self-destructing cookies - protects against trackers and zombie-cookies
- HTTPS-everywhere - what's in a name
- DuckDuck Go - the search engine that doesn't track you
Try it, you'll like it.
Adguard
No root, almost perfection.
Theres no other adblock thats as good. Adaway as we know is root only and leaves big gaps where the ad should have been.
Adguard does not.
The only annoying thing is persistent notification.
I use Dolphin browser and an Adblock addon it is great
CAF Chromium Browser has built in Ad Blocker, ist basend on Chromium and optimized for Snapdragon Prozessors.
It's really fast and Ab Blocker is working great.
NetGuard supports ad blocking since 0.77
