Very nice, I've been looking for an app like this for a while now. Just input a # you don't want to receive calls from and it will be blocked. Requires root, though.
Sure, you can use the built in "Send to Voice Mail" feature in Contacts, but that's not a good solution because 1) It clogs up my voice mail inbox and 2) I get an almost as annoying text notification every time someone that I have chosen to send to VM tries to call me.
The app is still pretty new, so it's lacking a few features I would like (such as regexp patterns), and I'm not sure it'll block text messages as well (which would be nice), but it's definitely a very good start.

I just downloaded it gonna start putting number in it. Do you know if you can use it to block unknown numbers?
I haven't actually tried blocking my home phone in it to try it out for myself, but supposedly what this app does is to send the caller directly to voice mail, just like the feature that's already available to us in the default contacts app. That's not quite what I'm looking for, as that means I will still get those annoying notifications and the voice mail inbox will (might) get clogged up.
Perhaps what I'm looking for is just not possible, but simply put I want an app that interceps an incoming call/text, cross-refs it against a black list, and if it's a match - mimics a red phone button press (decline)/refuse the text message - all within a few milliseconds. It would also be nice if it stopped the number from getting logged in the call log.

I'm pretty sure that what this application does is to receive the phone call (it may do half a ring) and immediately answer it and hang up. This should avoid the problem of sending it to voicemail.
i have been talking to the dev since release, the callers do NOT go to voicemail so it won't clog your voicemail manny.
also it cannot be used to block Unknown numbers so fo that you would need to write your app(i am trying but it is very hard to do when you don't know exactly what you are doing). but the dev claims that if you put in 1800 in the block box then it will block ALL 1800 numbers that call you. seems pretty good but i haven't been able to test it yet(crazy ex might have finally gotten the hint)
EDIT!! as soon as i posted this i got an update on it and now you are able to choose between unknown numbers or blacklisted numbers, i suggested checkboxes to select both, as well as text message block, but i am not sure how possible that would be

Really? I use the built in feature and I don't get a text when someone on my blocked list calls. It will show up in the call log but I don't get a text or notification unless they leave a VM.
where can i download? please?
I decided to start developing my own version..
^^^That is cool let us know, I am willing to test it. The developer has stopped updating this app.
Good to hear your making a new app. This one bugged me as it wouldnt block 1-800 type numbers..
Yes!
Joey3002 Please post it when completed. I cant find the other app anywhere. If you take paypal donations, I will send some $ after you post it. Thank You!

Hi,
this is not strictly Kaiser specific I guess.
I recall sometime ago seeing a feature which looked useful. When somebody calls you and lets say you are busy, meeting or driving etc.
You get a prompt to refuse the call and at the same time send a pre-defined text message back to them straight away.
So they get put through to your voicemail and also recieve a text from you to say "Sorry I'm in a meeting, will get back to you ASAP" . Is this a WM 2005+ feature?
Also another one
Is it possible to only send your caller id to people that are in your contacts list when making calls? Anybody else does not see your number?
Thought I saw that one on my old XDA iis?
Thanks
Mike
the text msg one seems useful. what if they are calling from a landline and not mobile like with most businesses? will the sms bounce back to you and says unable to send or something? just curious.

Well I seem to recall it was up to you what you did with the call, ie based on the number ringing . In the uk at least its possible to spot a mobile number easily.
I seem to think a small menu came up with several choices.
i don't know if this app will help. I've never used it but ran across it a few weeks ago.

I bet something like this could be down with MortScript... I'll research it, i've been wanting to get into MortScript, this would be a perfect test.

There are several apps (commercial ones) that do this. PhotoContacts Pro does it. And I think a couple of other phone utils do also (SPB or VITO may make one, don't remember).

Thanks, I'll check it out when I get my WM device soon!

Call Firewall
I'm using call firewall, it's a great app imo....
Photo Contact Pro has a reject/auto SMS feature. As for caller ID, My Kaiser has the following function. Go to phone, Menu tab, Options, Services, highlite Caller ID & press get settings. It then allows me the option to:
1. Send ID to everyone
2. Send ID to contacts only
3. Do not send ID
Maybe this is AT&T specific, but thought I'd throw it out there.

Only thing with ''call firewall'' is that when you are on a call if a call comes in it disconnect both the call your on and the one coming in... my experience.
There is also Magicall that does this:
http://www.mobiion.com/magicall.html
On windows mobile, I had an app that allowed me to create a white list of users, and easily set (and unset) it so that only calls from people on that white list would ring the phone, everyone else would go straight to voicemail. Is there such an app for Android?
I used it when I was sleeping, so that calls from trusted people who wouldn't call unless it was important would wake me, while random calls from people who fail to comprehend 'I work 3rd shift and sleep during the day' would go to voicemail. I know individual entries in contacts can be set to ring straight to voicemail, but it's way too much hassle to manually set a bunch of contacts to ring to voicemail, and no help for calls from numbers NOT in my contact list.
Well There is a app called callblock that you either set it to ignore certian numbers or you set it to block unknown numbers... (theres also one for sms too)
You could use Locale like this if your shifts are consistent times:
1. Setup a 'Sleep' situation based on time conditions that mutes notifications and rings.
2. Setup a higher rated 'Trusted Contacts' situation switching the ringer on for calls from your selected contacts.
I used to use Locale like this on my G1 - I'm waiting on manually switched situations (planned upgrade to Locale) to start using Locale again on my Magic.
Just click on a contact and scroll all the way down and it should say send calls from this contact directly to voicemail or something like that

Yeah, like I said, doing this for all my contacts doesn't work, cos I'd be doing it and undoing it every day, plus this is no help for calls from numbers I don't know.

I can't find call block in the market. I searched this forum, and someone mentioned not being able to find call block after upgrading to cupcake. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3860495#post3860495

Grab a copy of Reverse Lookup Plus.
You can choose to "lookup" any unknown call, get caller info, and then you can decide to added it to a blocked-list that auto sends it to voicemail.
I --believe-- this is the Call Block all grown up and renamed.
For my purposes, locale was the answer, once I got it set up properly. I set a condition of 'contact', listing the people I want the phone to ALWAYS ring if they're calling, and set the action to 'volume max'. Then I made sure this was at the top of my list in locale, since higher on the list is higher priority. The locale help has instructions about this, using 'VIP callers' as an example.
I can't seem to find Locale or Reverse Lookup Plus from the market?

The first result is locale. YOu can scan the 2d barcode on the page with your phone, and the phone will ask if you want to open the link with your browser or with the market. click market, it'll take you straight to locale.
aFirewall allows you to configure multi-scenes to block different call or SMS at different time by now. Its features are as below:
1. You can add black number from call log, SMS log, contacts or add it mannually;
2. You can setup aFirewall password to protect your private black list;
3. Unread blocked call log and SMS log notification;
4. Option to disable and enable aFirewall blocking notification;
You can download from market now because it is free. I am looking forward to your comments. Thank you very much.

Looks like a good free app but sends the call to voice mail. Would be better if for an incoming call the phole answers then hands up. This has a two fold benifit, first the spammer is charged for phoning me and second no voice mail.
if there is an incoming call, does the app block the call instantly or will the phone rings then block?
will there be a notification of the blocked calls? coz personally i dun want to see who's call i blocked......

Yeah, I noticed that with other firewall apps too. They all send to voicemail. That's part of the standard OS if you just click "send all calls from voicemail" under the contact for that number.
I want something that blocks them, or better yet - set up a forwarding number for their individual phone#. I'd love to forward the telemarketers right back to themselves. ha.

aFirewall just endCall when the call need to be blocked. Woud you like to let me know the call will be send to voicemail automaticlly when the call was rejected in your operator? That is to say, this is a default configuration of your phone as my Nortel IP landline phone does.
I can add a feature to aFirewall to forward a call to another number when a call was rejected.
Thanks.

If a blocked call was incoming, aFirewall end it instantly and no rings. And no notification was sent to you in default configuration. But your can enable it if you want this. Thanks.
How did you go about hanging up the call on incoming. I have looked into this and from what I can see this is not in the current version of the SDK.
If you could post some code that would be awesome!
Thanks
this app does not work at all....i added a contact to black list and have it set to block both calls and sms, and im still getting the calls and messages from that person... :/
I've been getting spam calls from a certain number. They're pretty annoying. I added the number to my contacts and set it to "always go to voicemail" so that the phone doesn't even ring, but then I still get a missed call message and a voicemail with half of the spam recording. I'd like to avoid that.
What I'm wondering is if there is a way to write an app to intercept an incoming call, check the number and if it matches, simply drop/end the call. I think the caller ID whitepages apps intercept an incoming call and look up the number so it must be possible.
I'm actually a pretty experienced Java programmer and have been looking for a cool android app to write, so I'd be happy to give this a shot. Just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction of an API and the right magic for the intent filters in the manifest to allow me to grab an incoming call. If I can get a hint in that direction, I think I can probably write the app.
I'd like it to be able to take a list of numbers or a wildcard pattern and either drop the call, forward the call to a specific number, etc. Just not sure what is actually possible to do programmatically. Can anyone familiar with the inner workings of android tell me what is even possible in this regard?
Thanks
You would need an app to answer the call then disconnect.
Drop/Reject call will go to whatever programmed divert is on your acct (voicemail)
I have an app for you, hell you dont even have to download it or install it.. its called the answer and end call button, for the sake of assuming people have below standard intelligence i will include a guide

Have you tried afirewall free off the android Market?
I appreciate what you're trying to do, but it might be easier just to report the spamming number to your provider's nuisance calls department as harassment (assuming you've asked them to stop calling or are on a no-call list).
If in the UK your provider should pursue the matter. I've reported a large number of persistent marketing / spam callers / texters over the years and had several companies shut down and fined (1 to the tune of £50k for repeatedly texting me).
If we were all to do this all the time, eventually the bottom would drop out of the market.

Yes, I called T-Mobile. The rep told me that there isn't anything I can do because the number isn't a proper 10 digit number, so they can't block it. I also reported it to the state (Massachusetts) and federal do-not-call sites but again got replies that there was nothing they could do to track down the caller without a valid phone number or correct company name.
Thanks for the tips -- I'll try afirewall or callwall!

that's a pretty dumb response. If someone is calling you 15 or 20 times consecutively, you don't want to have to answer/end a call every single time. An app would totally make life easier, and will probably try CallWall as well.
answer it, talk to them and request to be taken off of the call list, they legally have to do it and they will never call again, if its automated call the number back and request the same.
There are apps in Google Play
There're lots of apps solve the problem now.
Such as WhosCall, Mr Number, Call Blocker and so on. You can go to Google Play and download it, hope it is helpful for you.
What is the best call blocking program for the aria? It needs to have a whitelist to only allow people I specify to reach me. Thanks in advanced
Not exactly a direct solution on the Aria, but doesn't Google Voice allow you to filter calls? Again, I don't know about blocking.. but at the very least you can direct calls you don't want directly to voicemail.
i actually found this option today while going through my contacts. if you actually choose a contact and view his/her contact information. there is a menu down option to automatically send that person to voicemail whenever they call. i've already set a few to that option, but have yet to test it.

I tested it today, works GREAT!!! the phone doesn't even ring they just go right to VM
i use an app called Driodblock. there is a feature in it that tells you to block all calls except for your contacts (under scene mode). i think that is what you are looking for
i use it to block telemarketers or any unknown calls, which is what it's useful for. it does however tell you that the person called, but you dont hear the ring or anything, it goes straight to voicemail. you can also set it up so that that person gets hung up on so they dont get vmail LOL
the only problem is that if you search for droidblock in the market app, it doesnt show up. you have to search under "block calls" and it'll show up.
Yep, the two best ones are made by the same company:
Root Call Blocker (for general use):
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta
Call Master (for advanced users):
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.blacklist
These are the only blockers that completely block everything without turning the screen on. Need to be rooted though.
I use the option under contacts if it's someone I would rather leave a voicemail than talk to.
I use an app called call filter for numbers where the caller id is unknown. It has additional options for blocking specific numbers, but I've never needed it.
I've registered my phone numbers on the national do not call registry. I don't get telemarketing calls. If I ever do receive one, I will go to that same site and report the number. I've only received two telemarketing calls in the past 4 years having my number registered there.
You could use blocking apps to help you
Some apps on the Google Play provide you esay ways to block the unwanted calls.
Such as WhosCall, Call Blcoker ,Mr Number, Caller ID and so on.
You could try it. But don't install all of them at once since it would make your phone slow.
I usually use WhosCall which can search the strange phone number and provide a easy way to block them.
Hope it could help you.
We make the two best ones - root call blocker and call master. Both in my sig. Enjoy.
