Hi,
I was looking on the market but couldn't find anything like it.
I am looking for an app that can setup different things under different circumstances. Exaple would be: disable calls to the phone when satnav is on, or even better play an mp3 (or text-to-speech) to the caller with message (i'm driving now, will call back) or sending a text to a caller.
Also change settings based on time/place ur in etc.
Any app that can setup chain of events if/when -> then would be good.
Wouldn't be cool when you're driving and your android would answer the phone for you with a prerecorded robotic message saying that you're driving and will call back later?
Does an app like that even exist?
I read something about an app that can change phone settings depending on your location, but i don't remember it's name.
Any help would be great,
Thanks in advance.
bump, anyone?
Maybe someone is willing to create such application?
Locale is probably the app you read about. It wont do everything you want but it should do some.
Even though Locale cant do all of those things, they do offer a plug in system. Having had a quick look at their documentation, it should be fairly simple to create one.
Thanks for the responses, i will look into it, if I'll get anywhere with the plugin I'll post it here.
Cheers.
OK getting a bit bored of seeing the same questions so am going to compile the most frequent questions / requests here.
Can I :
Cut and paste?
ATM no, it's being addressed in the New Year FW update from MS
Use my own custom ringtone?
Not at this time, there are rumours that
the new year patch will add them
that MS is going to nickle and dime users and sell them exlusively through the market
Have media volume set differently to the ringtone?
Currently no, but from the number of people mentioning it, it'll be patched.
Download apps via PC Zune?
Yes! from the Zune software "Thanks for your purchase. Connect your phone to the computer to start the installation now. If you don't connect, the app will be installed on your phone the next time your phone checks for app updates"
Backup Apps to the PC?
No and Yes, currently no there is no way to backup an app to the PC, but when there is a FW update the Zune software takes a copy of the current FW+apps+contacts incase of issues so you can go back, expect to see a more inclusive backup added into the Zune software in a future update.
See if I'm using my data plan?
from anywhere you can see the clock, tap next to the clock, an info bar will drop, showing from left to right signal strength, data, wifi and battery.
Stop it using my data?
Switch data off! Settings / Mobile network / data connection
Also here are settings to stop network roaming and force 3G.
Can I get free tracks from my Zune pass (Eurozone)?
Yes, but unlike the US Zune Pass you don't get to choose them, it seems to be a promote artists feature in Europe, currently I blame coco and Rumer have a free track each to download.
Does it :
have front speakers?
No, the grills are aesthetic and hide the ear speaker and possibly the microphone.
display web page images at a lower resolution?
No, IE will either show the full desktop image or the mobile specific depending on your browser settings.
cycle tracks available via the zune pass?
Yes, it seems that albums get updated with album only tracks to try to encourage purchases, these tracks become unplayable via the PC and your phone the next time you sync it.
Support HSPA+?
No, it is HSDPA compliant which means for most users a theoretical max of 7.2Mbps is possible (remembering to take into account overheads etc) some places in the world could see up to 14Mbps due to network set-up.
Voice text entry?
Currently no, it supports calling contacts, opening apps and voice searches.
What happens
to apps after phone is reset?
There are reports they automatically re-download, my experience is you have to manually download them again, but they are listed as being owned by you.
How do I
Choose a contact picture?
People / Person / Edit (3rd Icon right at bottom) / Tap image
Then use a picture from one of the persons licked sources or choice from your mobile.
Change the tiles?
holding your finger on a tile will cause the other tiles to drop into the background, you can then move the tile to a new position or remove it by clicking the crossed through Pin on the top right, tapping the tile again will place it back down.
If you want to move multiple tiles move your first tile, then instead of tapping it to place it back, tap the next tile you want to move.
To add a tile go to your apps long press and click pin to start
Also:
- Video messages: You cannot create a video from your phone and send it via MMS. You can receive video messages though, and you can forward MMS with video to others.
- Downloading apps: Apps will also automatically download if your phone is set to wirelessly sync, so you don't necessarily need to plug in your phone to your computer to have your phone start downloading.
Does anyone know of a widget I can use to switch roaming mode between "automatic" and "force roaming?" I'm running Viper 1.1 with nova launcher. I tried to dig out the settings shortcut but they dont have the option to select "mobile data." I also tried to use a nova launcher "activity" but I couldn't find that shortcut either- I dont think mobile data is a usable activity. I have beautiful widgets installed but you cannot set up a switch for that.
I'm thinking it would need to be a specific app cause none of the other routes I've tried has yeilded a workable solution (currently I have a settings shorcut and I navigate to mobile data, select roaming and then force it... booo)
...My apartment is perfectly placed that its too weak for receiving calls on sprint signal but not quite weak enough to reliably switch to roaming (full bars roaming and able to receive calls) Its really annoying and I've missed a ton of calls because of this. (I did talk to sprint about an airave and they want to charge $10 a month for access...ONTOP of buying the damn thing... to augment their ****ty signal? Get real.)
super annoying.
Roam Control does a great job, although I'm guessing you don't really want to buy an app that essentially duplicates your ROM's functionality.

I actually had looked into that app but it didn't seem to fit what I was looking for... I'll check it out again
I just downlaoded "secure settings" and in that app I enabled "helper" (root required). Then you can press and hold on the mainscreen to make a "shortcut" and select secure settings, then you can select "data roaming" in the helper menu which is now enabled. Then you'll have to download an Icon pack (free) which the app directs you too (there are tons to match just about any theme). You can name the widget, pick the icon, save and...
...It didn't work. I'm going to keep working at it... Will update if I find anything.

Roam Control comes with a pretty simple 4x1 widget that lets you toggle between Home, Automatic, and Roaming. That's the end of that as far as Roam Control's widgets go. You can also create a Tasker task to toggle Roam Control and use Tasker's widgets if you want.
Secure Settings is great, but Data Roaming is not at all what you want. Data Roaming simply allows you to use mobile data (3G/4G) when you're already on a roaming provider.
Tasker and Roam Control together come close to $10 (at least, they did when I picked them up-- I think that Tasker now is actually $3.49), but I now have a profile that checks every half hour for the phone's service state. If the signal received is below a certain threshold (10% of optimum), the phone switches to roam, so long as a call is not active. If you get Roam Control and it works for you (can't see why it wouldn't, it does for me), I can package my profile as a separate APK and send it to you for use.

Thank you! I'll have to look into tasker, I could only find "not roam control" in the market, Is RC only availible via paypal on the devs website? I keep hearing about tasker and it sounds like a powerful tool that I really need to look into. I'll take a look at it and see if I cant figure it out, I may end up taking you up on your offer- I'll let you know.
*edit* looks like RC keeps getting pulled from the market... I'll look into it further. weird.
What you said about secure settings was a thought I had in the back of my mind after it didn't work... to bad, but still a nice little utility.

Unfortunately so, after Google pulled Roam Control from the market. And Tasker has a learning curve, but it's incredibly rewarding once you learn to use it-- and it's much less complicated than many people make it sound. If you choose to use Roam Control, let me know and I can package up my roam check routine (it'll work without Tasker).

GrooVeIP is an excellent program, but holding an open Wi-Fi connection can be a hit to your battery life, and no matter what codec I used the other party always felt I sounded a bit hazy. But it certainly is a good option if you're in a signal-less area for long periods of time (especially in teh basement of buildings).

The gear with Null rom can do most those things anyway? Or am I missing something?
Sent from my SM-G900H using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
This could be useful for non-touchwiz phones, I suppose.
I may give it a go just to see what it can actually do.
--wait... "need internet connection on the watch" For serious?
A little confused myself. One part says Bluetooth supported and other part acts like both devices need Internet connection as in Gear tethered which drains much more battery on the gear.
I'm not interested in the actual "Notifications" as Gear Manager does this fine for me, otherwise, the other functions listed, GPS, battery status on other device, ect.. Yes, I would be interested but still confused as to my first comment/paragraph above as to how this works.
The internet connection "requirement" is for those smartwatches that do not have working BT, like every one of the Umeox x201 based smartwatches. The internet connection is also for doing things over long distances (think miles).
It does more than just notifications. I'm running Null and have been placing calls and sending texts using the Gear and leaving my Nexus One in my pocket, or the other room, the whole time.

Hrmmm, Interesting. I'll be having a look at this. Thanks!

Ok have it installed on my S4. Problem. Can't get it on the Gear. In the Play Store it says not compatible with (gear) device so I can't use chrome extensions downloader either for some reason. And I'm tethered to the gear to access internet thru playstore directly and it's not listing on the gear to download???
Disregard, I got it downloading now with Chrome extensions, will transfer to gear and give it a whirl shortly.
Ok, I set everything up. Selected BT for connection on phone side's app. There is so setting for this on Gear Side's app. Entered devices names, ect... all it does is sit on phone side saying "Connecting". None of the features are doing anything.

this is for using without BT connection (for smartwatches that don't have bluetooth), it's not needed for direct bt connection.

On the Gear, the settings did not have a place to set a connection type unlike the phone's settings with the app. It started off with email. I even tried to scroll up and down and look all over for the settings for connection on the gear and it certainly wasn't there, at least for me.
i have uploaded the apk in download section as Gear might have difficulties getting it from playstore

Hold the phone! Literally , lol. I just uninstalled from gear and re-installed from the one you posted here in downloads and now I have the connection settings on gear. Now to re-install on phone side and go from there. :victory:
Update: Blah, now when I either set bluetooth on Gear or Phone, I get a force close on each device.

Great !
Strange thing going on right now. On gear I pressed Battery Icon to get the info from phone and it says uptop that it's connected to my phone but nothing is happening after "message sent" dialogue. So I opened into the App on phone side and it's sitting up top saying "connecting...." forever.
Update: Went in on phone side and "Force Closed" the app in app settings. Reloaded it and it connected right up. Must be a quirk or something...
*SWApp Link dev update 0.934d*
*BT Virtual Leash*
You watch will help you not to loose or forget your phone !!
New feature will allow to get notified if the bluetooth link is broken.
User selected delay to trigger the alert.
Hi
This looks promising but i have a few issues and questions
First of all the App keeps Force closing on the watch (i'm running NUll_23)
but i have been able to connect it for a short while and can get SMS messages and the watch vibrates but the screen does not light up
What i wondered is that i want to replace the Samsung Notification system completely as i want to see more of the notification
on the screen than just a small excerpt, especially with Gmail and Email
do you think your app be able to do that down the line
thanks
*SWApp Link dev update 0.934e*
*Auto Lock*
In virtual leash feature, you can now enable "Auto Lock" feature which will set a password on your phone if the link is broken.
It's a low level action on the phone, so you'll be asked to enable Admin rights to the app.
You will be able to enable or not the broken virtual leash notification.
So I just discovered the magical world of tasker, and am loving it! Totally worth the money, and one of the best apps to have (the best if you know how to maximise its use)! I have been experimenting a bit with it, so I don't have many profiles. I'm sure many folks here will be using tasker and would be having some great profiles, so I'm looking forward to hearing some suggestions! The profiles I use are:
1. WiFi off at night, from 00:45 to 08:00, except WhatsApp, Play Store, Quora
2. Airplane mode at night, from 00:30 to 07:00
3. Use of interactive CPU governor when using Real Racing 3, and revert to lionfish governor after exiting app(Kernel adiutor profiles do this for me). I also added a condition to use auto-rotate when playing the game, and revert to portrait orientation after closing the app.
4. Auto-sync every two hours, from 08:00 to 20:00 (I would like to improve this to auto-sync only Gmail, would welcome suggestions on how to do this from any tasker experts out here )
I would love to implement more profiles and automate my phone, so looking for ideas.
Need a tasker profile which can disable my mobile data only for some specific apps.it means If I start those apps then my mobile data would automatically disabled and when I close them Data service should be enbled. If u can help on this then That wud be very helpfull
Nothing very fancy for me - right now just have it turning on my wifi hotspot when it detects my car's bluetooth connection so my stereo can use the internet.
It sounds like you are taking it pretty far, @varunadi. You should check out https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker for more cool ideas.

I don't know if you can disable mobile data entirely (not just background which Android can do already) for just certain apps.
Perhaps it would be easier to use something like Netguard.
I've never used it but the description says "Applications can individually be allowed or denied access to your Wi-Fi and/or mobile connection."

I was actually going to suggest that as I have it installed already but when I tried it didn't work.
The "Mobile data" toggle was unavailable because it claims I don't have root. However, I'm definitely rooted and there's no listing (saying denied or otherwise) in SuperSU for Secure Settings so it didn't even ask for root. I'm not too surprised as SS hasn't been updated in over a year and a lot of the Play Store comments mention mobile data toggle specifically not working either (among other things). Too bad as it was pretty powerful and of course I think I paid for it right after its last update.
Not getting SS working for me might just be my problem and perhaps someone else can get it going.
I was also going to suggest [APP][2.2+][ROOT] Toggle Data 5.0 (xda-exclusive free version) but then I read more about what @anks095 said which was "can disable my mobile data only for some specific apps" so I'm guessing he just wants certain apps restricted and not all (although the next sentence seems to say otherwise but I might be reading it incorrectly). I'm not too sure that can be done via Tasker/SS - my guess is that it's an "all-or-nothing" kinda thing for mobile data so the VPN thing might be the only way.
I use a similiar app called automagic but some of the things that I got my tasker like program to do are: lockscreen enable/disable through wi-fi at trusted places (don't like geofencing due to battery), when connected to the bluetooth of my car. Auto silent 5 min before a meeting, but if not connected to my smartwatch then vibrate. And lastly sms emergency location request where my family can send a keyword and my phone will automatically send location.

How is the lockscreen one working for you? I find the built-in SmartLock to be really unreliable but when I tried to do lockscreen stuff before (last year) there was some bug in either Tasker or Secure Settings that would sometimes keep your screen black with just the nav buttons visible present. I'll have to re-try now.
That sms emergency request thing sounds cool! Can the recipient open the location in Maps to see exactly where you are?
Without issues I set it so that it clears the password. Makes it so that I have to swipe to unlock. As for the location, yes it sends coordinates and the user in the other end taps it to bring up Google maps.

Thank you very much - clearing the password was the key! I had been trying before to disable the keyguard entirely so I wouldn't even have to swipe but that's where the problem/bug came in. Thinking about it that makes more sense to have at least a swipe because I'd end up calling people from my pocket by mistake. So thanks again!
Tasker...hmmm. Bought it, but much to complicated for me. Macrodroid is much easier to understand and can also do complicated automation with a normal user friendly interface. I tried to like Tasker, but the more and more I tried the more stupid I felt.
