Hello all,
It's great to have found this forum, I was getting a bit desperate from the lack of customer support on the HTC website...
I stumbled into some issues with my HTC Touch Diamond, and I hope some of you will know the answer to some of them
Let me number them for convenience in replying:
1) Battery charging while the phone is off results in the battery status only going up till about 80% in a few hours, and then staying there. No matter how long I charge my phone, it doesn't go higher than 80%. After a reset, the battery does indicate 100%. How can I fix this without having to reset every time after a charge? Why doesn't the phone "see" the battery is full while it's on? How long should it normally take to charge to 100%?
2) Old SMS messages that I transfered from my SIM card don't show up with the sender's name, but show the sender's number instead. This happens in the Touchflo 3D messages overview, but also in the "all messages" section. New messages from the same sender do show up well. How can I make the old messages also display the senders name?
3) Can I disable threaded SMS messages if I want to somehow?
4) Can I disable the "you are roaming" warning in the weather section? The network I use is *always* in "roaming mode", because my provider uses another provider's network. This cannot be fixed by using a different SIM card. Can I turn off these warnings? They are quite annoying.
5) Another thing that bugged me, is that the screen went off so quickly while in a call. FIXED WITH: \HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall
6) There are some "music" files (ring, beep, bt_beep, callend) which show up in my music overview. Why? Where are they? I can't find them, but I want to get rid of them...
7) No snooze function for the alarm.....? Such a basic function, why doesn't this exist? Is it possible to "get" it somehow (while still keeping the alarm option in the Home/Today screen)?
8) When in threaded SMS messaging, it is impossible to select a message. When you click it, the sender screen opens, and only after canceling that screen, you end up with the message being selected. Only then you can delete it. Is it possible to just select the message without opening the sender screen?
9) Manage folders for SMS/MMS is greyed out. Why?
10) Birthday's from contacts don't show up on the "today" screen/calendar?
That's it for now, I already installed the advanced config tool, which of course adds great flexibility!
Thanks in advance for any replies!

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM\SMSInbo xThreadingDisabled=1
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSNoSentMs g=0
and I also want to add my problem, when I use headphone to listen music, it will have a sound drop every 3-4 mins, but no problem when using BT handsfree or the internal speaker, any idea?
6) You've included the ring tones in your WMP library I think.
7) Yes you can snooze. When your alarm goes off, get the notification to the foreground and there'll be menu options to snooze.
8) Use the Up/Down hardware keys. (Default cursor position when you're in threaded mode is a new message in a text input box, but if you press the Up hardware key, it'll go to the last sent/received message in the thread).
Thanks!
About 6) though, I don't think it's the ringtones. There are many more ringtones on the phone than just these 4 files. Also, they don't appear in the ringtone selection screen. Any idea how i can search the phone to find those files? Windows (XP) search doesn't really want to search in my mobile device..
About 7) Ok, didn't see that. When I just wake up, I am too sleepy to think. Can't the snooze functionality be mapped standard to some button or another?

Hello,
It seems to me I keep seeing my identical twin right before my very eyes. Almost every complaint or everything that people are saying or having about this phone is a direct page out of my own book. All the problems and lack of support and no fix for any of this. My question is there even a fix to any of this so far I have found none. According to HTC just to do a hard factory reset (which really will not fix anything, accept to restore it to factory settings and succeed in wiping anything not factory installed off your phone). I at my wits end this is a $700 + (piece of crap) phone and supposed to be a top of the line and it barely functions.
How come they do not have even a flicker of an indication that the phone is charging while it is off, Such as a light on the phone itself not the charger? Also, why doesn't the batter last longer all together, and have a much needed better battery life?
My SMS (text) message question is why should we have to go into the all message area/section to see the entire message? Why can we not just be able to scroll up in the main message screen to reveal the rest of the message if it is longer than the screen?
Screen turning off during calls
About the screeen going off during a call is a problem with the phone. Believe me you are not the only one with this problem. Besides myself I have heard many complaints. I have also heard that the fix that you have listed should take care of the problem. However, someone said they tried it and it did not work. As for me I am still trying to get someone to explain how to use it. I am not sure where I am supposed to go in order to or how to use it. Please if you can I would greatly appreaciate any help at all you can offer me on this.
ALARM
There is a snooze function in the alarm. It can be set to 5 min, 15 min and some other settings. I believe (and if I am correct) it comes up after the alarm goes off with the different snooze times offered and you then select the one you would like. Hope this helps.
What I find annoying rather than too serious is that if you go back into a section where there is input the keboard will return to where you left it (like the number pad, rather than the initial main keyboard) instead of returning to the main keyboard.
I have these plus more issues with the phone.
One of my current and quite aggravating problems is that all settings do not remain as they have been changed to. Enevitabely they undoubtedly revert back to whatever their default settings were. For example the backligt while on battery setting. I keep changing it from its default of 10 sec to 2 min and it eventually at some random unknown point will automatically revert back to is default setting. Another one that does this is the calander I set it to open in month view however even though it keeps showing it is set to open at month view it never does.
Also I don't know about you. However, the phone is often sluggish, slow, and freezing up. While it is sluggish if I want to navigate somewhere I have to navigate in the opposite direction you normally navigate to get where you are trying to go.
3G does not work in the US. Which means Video calling will and does not work (on non US vers).
finding and downloading apps for the phone is difficult. I usually get messges saying the program is not a pocket pc enabled program (or something along those lines) and will not work.
when trying to view photos in the file explorer (because naturally that is the only place you can beam them from and not the main photo album screen) they are supposed to show up as icons so you can see which is which and send the ones you want, they always do not.
The Voice commander program takes forever to work if it even bothers to work at all (it almost never recognizes the command you are saying).
Scrolling/touch flow presents somewhat of a problem to me. Often it does not do what I am trying to do (such as scroll or navigate) instead it will be as act as if I have clicked on or selected an item/program/ contact or whatever instead of another function such as scrolling. For example if I am scrolling, and need to stop it the only way I know how is to lightly tap the screen. However, this not always but often or usually results in an item being activated as though it had been clicked on (such as a phone call being initated). That I find a bit comical or ironic because often I have difficulty making or placing a call when I am trying to.
These next few items are just personal notes or observations rather than problems. However, battery life is awful, and what in the world possessed them (HTC) not to have an external memory card slot? Whatever gave them the idea that 4GB is anywhere near even close to enough storage, pics, music, games, video. . . .NO WAY! Also, in my opinion the scroll menue bar on the bottom of the screen is too close toe the man screen above it. So, inevetibly if I am trying to scroll or navigate something in onre of the menues such as pics, music, or different cities weather I usually end up hitting the scroll menue bare and it navigates me away from what I am doing (which is typical with the touch flow feature, it usually gives me difficulty). In my opinion they just should have not had any of the jard buttons on the phone made the screen larger (the complete size/length of the phone) and had all of buttons/commands activated by/on the screen itself. Another annoying thing is that there is only one connection to the phone. So, if you want to listen to music via the headset witch undoubtedly suck the life out of the battery howe are u supposed to charge the phone?
Well, those are just SOME of my thoughts, problems, frustrations, complaints, advice, ect. . . There is pleanty more where they came from.
I would eternally be greateful if you or anyone else could offer anything at all regarding my problems with the phone or any other information, any developments, or anything at all in relation to the Diamond piece of crap.
Please feel free to let me know if I can return the favor and help you in anyway. I am happy to help. Good luck with your phone.
Sincerely,
Jennifer

what about a specific program like travel alarm. it's cheap and have very big buttons for the snooze. you don't have to look for options (5,10,15 min) you just preset the snooze and you keep pressing the "snooze" button till you''ll be late (happened to me)..hehehe

during the charging there is a very nice soft light going around (spinning) the action button. believe me, i am looking at it right now. maybe it's the htc trying to hypnotize it's happy customers...lol. when the charging is finished the light stop spinning

it's a step forward. before htc flow you had to go to messages and look for yr message. now you see the beginning of the message on the main screen (aha, that's the one!) and with a push of thumb (it better be not a big one) you go straight to yr important SMS. not bad, i think.

did you uncheck the "auto adjust backlight" option? it might work.

try sliding on the main screen you don't have to use the menu bar. you also can use the upper strip where the name of the menu is written.
as a conclusion and a friendly advice, be patient, try and get used to the new gadget. it's not so bad...i have my hopes in the rom that soon (i hope) we'll have from the pros that are doing it here just for fun. i was also taken by surprise in the first 24 hours. i did expected for this price to get a gadget that will make my coffee in the morning and voice guided me to the bathroom..lol! it isn't so. we had the courage (and the $) to buy the first batch. improvements are still to come.
Screen turning off during calls
this *feature* seems to be resolved see this post for details:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2304445&postcount=94
Dear Jennifer and others,
I am glad I am not alone. Yes, today I also discovered that after changing the 10 second backlight off on battery mode to 30 seconds, it jumps back automagically to 10 seconds. This happens without the option "auto adjust" being turned on.
This is extremely frustrating to say the least... Especially when in a light environment, and you can't see the screen without the backlight.
I'm going to try the offered solution for the screen turning off during a call, because the original solution didn't work for me either, I discovered today.
The battery life is starting to get to me, with the phone going dead on me after one night (idle of course) + one day (maybe 1 min calling, some texting, some google maps) of use. This is ridiculous...
Anyone found a solution for one of the other issues mentioned?
I would also like to point out, that I think the setting "disable startup animation" in the advanced config tool does not seem to work for the diamond.
I set this, but it still shows the HTC animation. However, the sound is gone

Thank you for your help I really appreaciate it. However, unfortunately I have that setting unchecked and it is still continuning to do that. I just went in there to check and it was of course back to 10 sec. I don't know how to fix it. The odd thing though is that it only does it with the setting for turning off the backlight while running on battery not while plugged in. I am not sure why but it is extremely aggravating. I am begining to think I am going to try and exchange it for the Cruise. It sounds like a much better phone. Though, I am waiting to see about the Diamond US ver. I am not sure what to do. I want to try the sollution for the backlight while on a call problem. However, I am clueless about how to do it. Apparently from what I understand I need to get a program in order to make the changes and I am not exactly sure how to get the program and install it then how to do it once I have the program. I would love some help with that. Thanks again.
Jennifer
The way I did it is as follows:
1) install active sync / your mobile device on your pc/laptop, using the cd's that came with the phone.
2) download and use this software to enable RAPI: http://www.breaksoft.com/Download/MRE/EnableRAPI.zip
(read about it on http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Posts/2005/8/Mobile_Registry_Editor_FAQ.aspx)
3) download mobile registry editor: http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx
4) run it, browse to the settings as mentioned, double click them and change their values:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatteryTimeoutInCall set from 5 to 0
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatterySuspendTimeoutInCa ll from 5 to 0
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormandDisplayD uringCall from 1 to 0
(where HKLM stands for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)
5) soft reset your phone and it should work...?
Good luck, let me know if it works.
What bugs me most is the following:
If i turn off the screen of my phone by pressing the on/off switch and i recieve a SMS the SMS-tone won't sound.
When i press the on/off button again to use my phone the tone will sound, butt i recieved the message half an hour ago :S.
The only way to avoid this is to lock the phone and not turn off the screen, which results in a stand-by time of only 8-10 hours (not sufficient for my use).
Are there any fixxes for this problem?

Ok, typical because i sometimes got a message, but 9 outta 10 times i didn't.
Changing the registry setting fixes my problem and completely awakes my phone. Exactly what i want.
Outstanding issues
Alright, so as for me, the following issues are still not resolved:
1) Battery charging while the phone is off results in the battery status only going up till about 80% in a few hours, and then staying there. No matter how long I charge my phone, it doesn't go higher than 80%. After a reset, the battery does indicate 100%. How can I fix this without having to reset every time after a charge? 4) There are some "music" files (ring, beep, bt_beep, callend) which show up in my music overview. Why? Where are they? I can't find them, but I want to get rid of them... They are not the ringtones of the phone.
5) Manage folders for SMS/MMS is greyed out. Why?
6) Birthday's from contacts don't show up on the "today" screen/calendar?
7) after changing the 10 second backlight off on battery mode to 30 seconds, it jumps back automagically to 10 seconds. This happens without the option "auto adjust" being turned on.
8) The setting "disable startup animation" in the advanced config tool does not seem to work for the diamond. I set this, but it still shows the HTC animation. However, the sound accompanying the animation is gone.
If anyone has a solution to any of the above, I will be eternally grateful
I think alot of these niggles will be solved by a new rom update...now when HTC get their fingers out of their asses and provide the owners of the Diamond one is entirely another question.
Other than reg editing i dont think theres much you can do unless someone here develops a new better rom to solve alot of these issues you guys seem to be having.

I dont really know to be honest as this is my very first foray into Windows Mobile...but if its anything like WinXp or Vista reg editing then i suppose if you start messing around with values...you might find that you no longer have a phone that works properly but as i said i really dont know what sort of damage you could do with the phone via reg editing/hacking etc.
Personally for me, when i get my Diamond ill only make the changes that have been proven to work ie the Diamond tweaking thread. Other than that i dont think ill be mucking around with the registry too much.

The problems above are not Diamond specific. They exists in all WM devices.
2) Once transfered to SIM card, the format of the phone number might changed (compared to the one in your contacts). This might be the cause of the problem.
4) These files are located in \Windows folder. Don't have Diamond, so don't know how to solve this problem for you. Normally most players I used so far has a way to exclude some folders.
5) You are not able to create any folders for SMS/MMS. That is why it is greyed out. This is always true since I use WM2003SE to WM6.1
6) If you create contacts using any WM devices, the Birthday appointment is not automatically created. If you sync your contacts to your PC (with Outlook installed), Outlook will created the appointments for you and they will be copied over to your device. Or, if you installed 3rd party PIM (ex, Pocket Informant), normally 3rd party PIM will automatically created the birthday appointments for you.
I've flashed my 8925 twice and hard reset it once, I've tried with and without having allowed the ATT customizations, and still there's a bunch of stupid little crap that is driving me nuts. Please note: these bugs are with no additional software installed.
Can't keep the backlight from timing out. I've always disliked the default of having the screen auto dim: if the screen is on I'm probably *looking* at it, otherwise I'd have turned it off... I've tried everything, setting no backlight time out, leaving it checked but matched to the screen shutoff, it shows the right thing in the control panel and stays on after I leave that screen, but usually within minutes or especially after I've used the phone it'll start dimming at 10 seconds again--even though turn off backlight is still unchecked in the backlight control panel.
Missed calls / call log badly broken: I'll get the missed call notification but when I try to see the caller it shows the log as empty, and when I go into the log manually from the phone app it also shows empty--doesn't even have my outgoing calls.
Voicemail notification got stuck on. I can probably call ATT and have them fix this on their end in minutes but it's bloody annoying that my phone's been notifying me of a long deleted voicemail message for days.
Anybody else having any of these problems?
Anybody know a fix for any of them?
I've already tried advanced_configuration, no great help there.
What's the latest/best cooked ROM? I like that the official has stuff like Voice Command and Sprite Backup, would like to keep them...
I haven't noticed any of those problems. I have however had problems with the phone being really sluggish at times. Still testing with no apps installed. I don't have the backlight problem. I have just used the settings in Kaiser Tweak and everything is working. Not sure that I will keep using it though. I will probably go back to Hyperdragon's newest ROM's. Those always seem to work really well for me.
No issues with the official AT&T ROM either.

Are you using the right SPL?
I did not try the rom. But I heard cleartype w/ landscape problem still exist w/ this rom (like the official HTC 6.1 rom). It could be fix by replacing the ddi.dll but will probably break Opera mini 9.5.
Problems??? Pull up a chair! First I installed the ROM and none of my would work. I couldn't connect to the internet. I downloaded the ROM again and reflashed it. This time icons started disappearing on my phone. I did a soft reset. Nothing. Did a hard reset. Nothing. I reflashed. Loaded my apps, they actually worked. I set up my email, and I could connect to the internet. Great! Finally! One hour later, I got a phone call, but my phone didn't ring. Huh?Anyway, answered it, when the other party spoken it came out the speakerphone. I checked my device and there was no sound: ringtones, music games, alarms. Soft reset...Startup sound played..loaded up and no sound. Call ATT for a help, they decided to send me a replacement. Bad device, I guess. So I redownloaded the ROM and tried a different phone( i know, i know), can't get email to work, can't get MMetrics work. I quit!I will be going to custom ROM! I have a lot of reading to do.
Been using the new AT&T Rom since it was released and not having any issues. The only minor problem I have is that I'm seeing some compatibility issues with the version of S2U2 that I am using. Otherwise, good to go.
I don't get how people are having problems with this. Everything works flawlessly with me.
Except threaded messaging sucks, but with Kaiser Tweak, I turned it off.
I have had only 3 major issues with this rom.
1: Camera works, but doesn't show anything on the screen. I have a black screen, press the capture button, and I get a picture, but I can't tell what I am looking at until I take the picture. Working on this issue now. [Update] I just installed HTC Camera v5.04 b29195.00 http://rapidshare.com/files/99227062/HTC_Camera_v5.04_b29195.00__PPC_.CAB . Works Perfect now!
2. Battery life was HORRID! After 10 minutes I was down to 90%, while it sat on the desk, screen off, nothing running. After switching from 1.65.21.18 to 1.65.21.14, life was peachy. 8 hours with normal usage and only down to 80%.
3. Blue Tooth drops erratically. I connected my bt headset to the phone, made a call, after 10 or 15 minutes, it dropped the headset. BT stayed turn on, but headset couldn't be found. Turned off headset, turned back on, magically found. Haven't figured out what is causing this, but am researching that as well. OK, So I got on HTC's website to see if there was an update. There is no update for BT for the Tilt WM6.1. However, there is a fix for TYTN II WM6.0. http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=13&cat=0&dl_id=60. I decided to try this fix, installed thinking I would get the whole "this program was built for a previous version" garbage, but I didn't get that. Anyway, I am going to try this tomorrow when I make my calls. I will update if I notice it fixes my issues.
Otherwise, it's fast, good signal, good sound quality, etc. Overall I am pretty happy. Will be happier when I finally get the BT to stop dropping, as I travel a lot and it's illegal to talk on the phone w/o a hands free on any military installation.... Sorry if I didn't answer any problems others are having on this actual forum, but maybe someone else will be having the same issue and see my posts for my fixes. Thanks!
zip, zero, nada.......UI is faster, apps are faster, threaded SMS is really nice to have, MSVC works as advertised with my JB2.
Different Alarm Sounds!!
I have a small WAV file that I use as an alarm sound but now can't get the sound listing in the alarm setup. I use to put it in application data/sounds. It now doesn't show up if I put it there or anywhere else (/windows, /my documents/my ringtones). Anyone else have this problem?

All my WAV and MIDI files in the root of Windows show up fine. How small is the file? 600kb is the size limit for sounds on AT&T ROMs unless you modify the registry key that restricts it. 600k may be large for an mp3 file, but that's only mere seconds of a WAV file.
I upgraded as soon as it was available and am seriously considering going back to the old WM6.0 ROM, which worked well. I have had several lockups and had to soft-reset. I have also had problems with calls. Once, it rang and shoed me the call, but wouldn't let me pick it up. Other times I have had echos. GPS lock time is also much longer. Oh, yes, the equalizer in TCPMP creates terrible distortion. It worked great in 6.0. And I am using the recompiled version.
It is great to get results of satisfaction with the new ROM, but I personally would like to know, for those who have been having problems and those, answers to some questions:
1 Which SPL
2 Which radio
3 Activesync or POP for email
4 Bloatware installed or not
5 PIE or other browser
I am sure that there are others, but those are what come to mind for the moment.
No Problems Here
FWIW, I think my Tilt is running much better with the new ROM. I've only had it (the new ROM) for a couple of days, but TT7 and Google Maps seem to run faster, and It seems to detect WIFI networks MUCH faster than with the old ROM. I'm a happy camper, at least for now.
I've noticed that its been alot slower and I don't like having a button devoted to the ringtone volume. The other HTC Tab I was using that was supposed to be an official use had Music allowing me to access Windows Media very easily now I can't. I also noticed my dialing pad is different and not the same as it was. I also don't like the threaded SMS on Windows Mobile it doesn't suit it. It makes it look very confusing and also I've noticed it has problems moving the screen upwards so that I can see what is being written in the space. Another thing I notice is randomly the HTC Home screen cuts itself off cutting off portions of the tab information. Its something to get used to but I don't see it happening cause I can't figure out what happened to some items on the phone like my GPS doesn't work, I am experiencing worse internet problems than before, Wifi dies frequently, and the dialer doesn't seem to work like it used to. Its a disappointment.

Backlight timeout linked to lock??
When I re-downloaded the software and re-flashed a *third* time things seemed to work better. The only thing I did differently was skip the 'setup a password' that last time I flashed.
The phone worked pretty well all weekend, and then this morning I finally put in owner info and set a pin password.
And I just noticed the backlight has started dimming after 10 seconds (or less) again. Restart didn't correct it, nor did changing the setting in advanced config so the screen doesn't dim for unlock screen.
For now I turned off lock and went into the backlight tab and it's stopped doing it. BLOODY ANNOYING. I've seen mention of the backlight timeout bug in other forums too...
Even while the phone was working well over the weekend I noticed that fairly often the first attempt to bring it out of standby flashes the screen on then it goes back off, comes on and stays on when I press power the second time.
I ran into the idiotic bug where text is white on white when in landscape mode, know I saw something about that being a cleartype bug or something and there being a fix, but why the hell would it be released like that?
Also, I can NOT get the 'message sent' notification to disable... does 'advanced config' not actually work?
Buggy is an understatement!
Having been unable to bear/ignore the bugs I reverted back to 6.0
Here's what I along with you guys have issues with.
1)Ringtones revert back to it's default tone whenever I open: Settings>Phone
2) Back-light reverts back to 10 seconds at random and often.
3) Google maps will not display letters when searching for places, but it'll invisibly type
4) Typical freezes on pages and things of that nature
5) Bloatware..

I'll help you out here
Go into HKEY_CurrentUser --> ControlPanel --> Sounds --> FileSizeLimit ( it's a DWORD value)
Just delete the DWORD value, and bam, enjoy .
EDIT : wow, just realized this is my first post. I've been browsing the site since the Tilt came out, but I guess I've never found it necessary to post. haha!

I have the exact same problem with my 8925. My work buddy across the hall does not have this problem with his 8925. Running WM6.0 my screen has ALWAYS dimmed at boot, as well as after a call ended; his has never done so. Now, after we've both upgraded to WM6.1, I have all my same problems, as well as the additional 10 second auto dimming that I did not encounter with WM6.0, he still has none.
No matter what settings I change, no matter if connected to power, USB, or none, my screen dims after 10 seconds. I can get it to temporarily revert back to the setting of my choice, by going into the settings and then back out, but if I manually dim the phone, get a call, or pretty much anything, it defaults back to the automatic 10 second dimming. I'm so pissed off about this. S2U2 also automatically kicks in on every screen dim, so I can't use it while the dim prob is going on. Certainly someone within this HUGE base of geniuses has a definitive answer for this.
Lots of little bugs in this release.
Google maps doesn't like it.
Can't get TCPMP to work.
Gets sluggish.
MSVC doesn't notify.
Other things I can't think of now.
Pretty irritating to say the least.
Just got Diamond 2 after a brief flirtation with Omnia. £400.00 later and convincing the Mrs it was a "free upgrade" got to admit I'm at bit disappointed at the moment, in file explorer I can't seem to select multiple files by dragging stylus/finger for moving, deleting etc. same with tasks, have to delete each one individually once completed. Anyone having the same problem or have I got a dud? HTCs workaround is to select small QWERTY keyboard, hit CTRL key and select files one at at time, this works but it's a bollock ache.
Also it seems to keep re sending text messages!! My boss was getting the same one up to 14 times right into the early hours after I'd sent it at 5 O'clock. Might be the Network but it seems strange that this has happened as soon as I've started using a new handset.
As for battery life I'm not getting more than a day and a half at moment with limited call time, hoping it improves with a few more charges but the Omnia I was using outperformed this with Winterface running!!
The multiselect problem is normal with touchflo, although if you want to delete a number of files in a row then you can use shift on the regular keyboard instead of delete.
i don't get any more than a days use with the battery as well
i think the people that were saying they got 5 days out of it, either....
had it plugged into usb and didn't realise it was charging
or
Just don't actually use it and have it on standby for the duration and in airplane mode
I am comfortably getting 2 days out of mine with moderate usage

It's a bit crap that, isn't it. IMO all WM devices should know whether the stylus is present or not. So if you drag your finger over it, it scrolls. If you take out the stylus and drag it across, it multiselects (since it knows the stylus has been removed). Obviously if you drag with your finger whilst the stylus is out, you'll get the multiselect behaviour, but that's not really a problem.
Multiple file selection & Battery
from input selection select "keyboard" Ctl key is bottom left, this will allow multiple file selections much like a desktop PC, as for stylus in or out makes no difference, cannot select multiple files at all by dragging down the screen. HTC seem to think it should be possible and have apparently tested it successfully.
running SPB shell 3 at moment, looks pretty but I think it may be adding to battery drain. Current stats: last full chg 27/4 08:02 10 hours 18 min standby 1 hour 1 minute talk time and 2 hours 52 minutes usage. Down to 30% pretty poor even by pocket PC standards especially with all of the grandoise claims about improved battery. Will get shot of Shell 3which is a shame and see how I get on with TF3d
battery life is pretty good on the daimond2.
sinds saterday morning 7:00.
youtube-30/40 min active movie watching
calling-20/25mins
10/15 so textmessages.
browsing/email/weather 45min
testing wifi 10 min.
rest of the time standby.
still at settings/batery----4 green bars remaining.
Last charge was mondaymorning 6:30 AM.
Now 12:18 PM it has 4 bars left in the Settings -> energy screen (which is about 40% I think).
It's comparable to my previous phone (first Touch ever ... the Elf) which was about 2y old.
Bluetooth is always on, 3G is used all the time (automatic mail check every 10 mins), tried some GPS (TomTom) yesterday (approx half an hour), some internet, installing new programs, playing games, ...
So a quite heavy usage ... lasting two days ... it's acceptable but not super.
When I get used to its fabulous looks and screen (meaning not wanting to play with it every 5 minutes) ... it will probably last longer ... which is nice !
I'm happy with it ... it's a HUUUUGE improvement to my previous Touch

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting that's how it worked, I was suggesting a way in which it could work.
http://tomhorsley.com/rants/doze-mode.html
I'm definitely reverting back to 5.1.1 when I get the time and energy to fool with it .
sounds like that was written by someone who hasn't even tried marshmallow yet. I have yet to experience any missed notifications, alarms or any issues relating to time in any way. If some apps are being affected by this then its a sign to the developer to fix their ****ty code because all of my apps relating to time at all have been working just fine and alot of them are still the same version they were on lollipop. Doze has improved my batter significantly. It sounds like this article was probably written by a developer who cant code properly and instead of improving his skills he'd rather complain and convince everyone to stay away from updates because he is unwilling to evolve. Even the article looks like it was written in paint...
I had indeed a wrong time bug some days ago...really strange and worrying, a reboot fixed it. First time ever since Android Froyo that I experienced something like that.
That author seems to think that Marshmallow's Doze is a horrible thing that breaks all apps that rely on background services, namely alarms and notifications, and couldn't possibly be fixed in 10 years (rather than a few months) due to Google's horrible mistake (rather than devs not fixing their code).
Frankly, it sounds like a bunch of hyperbole.

He's wrong about how doze works. And if he's in the camp that doesn't understand it nor wants to rewrite his app. Then yeh he's the idiot group that Google is targeting and was writing garbage code anyway.
lol complete nonsense, my alarm has worked everyday since i flashed M, even on dev previews...the only issues i have with M are really the "slow to connect wifi when using toggles" and the weird wifi consumption on battery stats
Another annoying issue on M is that if your leave your phone longer in standby mode (display off), wifi turns off and you stop recieving notifications until you turn your phone on again. This is with wifi set to "never turn off", etc.

This actually happened with me a couple of days back, I was travelling, so I put my phone connected to a power bank and went for a nap, woke up to see phone switched off, switching it on throws me a 2nd September date set on my device. Had to manually set the date as no network was available to automatically set the date from servers.

This I had been noticing these days just because of WhatsApp Web. When in standby, WhatsApp Web shows phone not connected error. Just waking the phone reconnects to the WiFi, but happens every 30-40mins.
I have a feeling that folks who never see these problems have their phones charging at night and doze mode doesn't happen when you are charging. I have no convenient way to charge my phone near my bed, so it is not charging and totally idle all night. Email and messaging completely stops. Only the stock alarm clock works. My medication reminder stops working. It might as well be turned off completely. Plus when you do wake up and turn on the phone, all the pent up alerts come through and scare the hell out of you. I hate doze mode.
Settings -> Battery -> ... (menu)-> Battery Optimization --> All apps --> Select whatsapp, etc... and select not optimized.
Test again.
You're welcome.
I already disabled optimization in the battery settings for all the apps that weren't working. They still don't work after sitting overnight. It looks as if that setting has absolutely no effect.

This is a real problem. I tested this on a Nexus 5. The device seems to enter Doze after about 1 hour and this is what happens.
What does work in Doze mode:
- Telephone: call can be heard.
- Alarm: alarm can be heard
What does NOT work in Doze mode:
- Receiving mail notifications directly: it seems to wait for the maintenance window. There is no "ping" from my GMail. No lock screen notification until I picked it up. I turned off battery optimalization as suggested. Like Claghorn says, it doesn't make a difference. When I was sleeping, the time difference between sending the mail and getting a notification can be hours. That is not acceptable: I want to determine whether or not I get a message. I got no control over Doze, except plugging it in. Also, when it sits on the desk at work I need to pick it up or turn the screen on every so often, because I don't know if it "dozed" off again.
Works partially:
- Notification light: It works once mail passes through the maintenance window. It does NOT work before the maintenance window.
I tested all of this with a unrooted, updated Nexus 5. Topic Starter and Claghorn have good points. Why can't I turn this off? I don't want this. I want notification on time, with ping, right now. If I don't I will turn the volume off or set priorities. They could have told me this behavior in a mail or during the update. Important mail from work, family comes in hours late. Not happy with this at all.
Tried all sorts of things, nothing seems to help. And no, battery optimalization is either not enough or has nothing to do with it. I love the Nexus 5. Marshmallow seems to be much smoother than Lollipop. I was happy with the update until I discovered this. Now, I am fustrated. I expect the phone to inform me when I need to be informed. Most days I don't need to save 10% of power anyway. For the first time I want to either root the phone and go back to Lollipop or even Kitkat. I don't know what else can be done. Fustrated.

A quick suggestion -
You may use Doze Mode Editor and edit the script so that your phone never enters Doze mode.
That way you can enjoy Marshmallow without Doze.

Thanks, I will look into that. I'd like to keep Mashmallow as a whole if possible. I think it is a good update in general.
OK, I've looked at the doze mode editor thread and I find that the descriptions of the parameters I can set to be totally confusing, however, the flowchart pointed at in that thread seems to indicate that if I set the "inactive_to" value to something like 24 hours, then all the other doze mode nonsense is unlikely to ever happen (because I'll probably turn on my phone at least once every 24 hours). Does that seem like the best way to essentially turn off doze mode?

I will look into this over the weekend. I find it odd that there isn't simply a switch to turn Doze off, which is a pity. It seems to me it's part of saving energy in general. A switch under Battery would do nicely. It should not be this complicated. That said, I think the UI of Marshmallow is silky smooth, much better than Lollipop. Marshmallow in general in good. It' just this that annoys me.
i'm baffled by google's aversion to end user config. This kind of b.s. is how I found xda and drove me to become a chronic flashaholic. All or nothin I guess.

I get the feeling Google assumes the customer is a developer. A few examples:
- The Nexus 5 does have a notification light: I didn't know until I read 5 reviews and even then I couldn't find any documentation on it. Needed an external app to get it working.
- Battery indicator: I like to have small numbers indicating battery charge: it could be done by hacking KitKat and Lollipop I think. Then at Marshmallow finally there's a (hidden) switch.
- I don't recall having any user guide in the Nexus 5 package. Not that I needed one. But some landing page doing a walkthrough would have been nice. Although there are some walkthroughs in every app
Not fatal flaws, but you wonder why does it need to be that difficult. It scares people away. Not me. I handed the Nexus 5 to some friends on numerous occasions and most found it too "empty". As for me, I want all developer stuff on. So it suprised me, there is no Doze fine tuning. Again, overall I give the Nexus a 8 or 9 out of 10. It fits me. In general I like it. So it's just constructive criticism. The empty layout and raw speed of the Nexus 5 works good in development of apps afterall.
Last night I ran an adb command (generated by the doze mode editor app) to set inactive_to to 24 hours (86400000 milliseconds). I then set an alarm for the next morning in the "Alarm Clock Plus" app (which completely ceased to function after Marshmallow showed up). This morning, the alarm actually went off on time, but the big "Dismiss" button it draws on the screen was totally non-functional. I had to hit the power button to get control (which then caused a popup saying alarm clock plus was non-responsive). I have no idea what caused all that behavior, but at least the alarm actually went off.
Also, with doze mode essentially disabled (in theory anyway), the power dropped from 100% in the evening all the way down to 97% in the morning.
With the exception to facebook and game type apps, Google's apps are the only ones I find that excessively waste resourxes and need to be forced to sleep. If they would get off the constant location polling, media scanning, and logging or at least tone it down a bit some they wouldnt need to implement thier half baked versions of solutions that they hijacked from xda devs
It's not saved as one of the ringtone or notification sounds on my phone.
It does not do any type of notification I have already tried notification sniffers and it does not do any type of notification at all.
I kill all apps, turn of the screen, nothing can stop it from playing the entire toon for about 45 seconds.
I have posted on several boards but cant figure it out.
I've attached the audio that I recorded of it playing.
They did tell me to run a bug report directly after it happened which I did. They told me to upload it to battery historian: https://bathist.ef.lc/
But I can't figure out what to do once I upload it or how to parse the information.
audio sound:
Dropbox - File Deleted - Simplify your life
www.dropbox.com
Does the sound play at any specific time or is it at least once a day or something?
Usual practice is to see what your most recent apps were, as one of them may be causing this. You might even check for latest updated apps, because it could be something added by a new feature/update.
If that's not finding an issue, you might boot into safe mode and seeing if the noise stops happening - this would indicate that an app is causing it. Alternatively, maybe uninstalling all other apps is a good place to start. If it goes away, then add apps back (maybe a few at a time, to make it easier) and monitor for when it comes back.
I'm not familiar with that Battery Historian app, but it seems interesting. If you can identify when the sound happened, it should line up with the "audio" events shown in the graph. I assume there's some way to zoom in on that graph, so maybe you can see what happened during that time, and help narrow down a possible app that could be causing this.
thanks so much for your reply.
The sound happens so infrequently, the last time it happened was 2 weeks ago. Sometimes it might happen 3 or 4 times in 1 day. And the phone use and app use are static and have not changed. Same phone use every single day. It's impossible to figure out it seems.
It's so frustrating.
I ran the bug report directly after the sound played so the end of the historian file is when it happened and looking at the "audio" I do see something there that played for 59s which is about right for how long the audio is.
But I can't figure out any info about the audio besides what is on the tooltip.
Maybe someone knows more about this battery historian.
Bug report for who? If you're just throwing out a but report to an app or even the OS, chances are that it will be ignored as irrelevant, unless you can convince the place you're reporting it that this is something they are causing... I'm guessing that report is not going to do what you think it is.
I don't see how battery historian is going to help, so maybe you need to pursue the thread which recommended it. I did a quick search and I don't see how that app will help identify the problem.
One other idea I saw was that maybe a browser tab is generating the noise. Websites can sometimes provide notifications and such, if you allow them to. I never do, but I can imagine that as a source of noise.
In the end, this is likely an app that you have. You just have to remove as many as you can, and see if it goes away. If it doesn't then you can look deeper at your remaining apps. If it does, then the job is easier and you just need to add them back in (if you still want them) until it comes back. Since it's so infrequent, it's going to be difficult to have happen... but I doubt it's an OS-level problem otherwise others would have the same issue.
thanks for your response and I have been trying to do that but it has not worked so far and that is why I am posting here.
Something on my phone is firing this sound and if you are telling me there is no way for me to figure it out from some type of log, then I have to tell you that you are wrong.
Everything that is done on Android there is a record of I just need to figure out how to read this record.
Not everything is always logged with any OS or app. There are settings to set log-levels higher or lower. Most apps set only "warning" or "error" level logs, generally speaking. There are often ways to increase this, but it's not there by default for sure... I wouldn't expect a sound activity to be logged by default as it's not an error.
But, if you know better than me, then I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. I will stay out of it going forward. I would love to hear how you find it, because it's great information for anyone on XDA (and I would certainly like to know as well).
