Have a problem with my TyTn II which is getting really infuriating.
When someone sends me a mail from a Windows machine in HTML and with a picture embedded as part of the mail the mail when received on my TyTn will show the image.
When it comes from a Mac it won't??? Just a placeholder. Worked this out through process of elimination and have tried sending mails with pictures (using every means of attaching - drag and drop, cut & paste and attach) but when it gets sent to the TyTn - zip. Useless placeholder.
Anyone any ideas as to why or any work arounds? Tried searching all over here and Google and tried just about every setting on each device.
Failed to get an image I urgently needed for a meeting last week and was tempted to turn the TyTn into an amateur phone builders kit by slinging it as hard as I could up the wall!!!!

Interesting problem this, it seems to have just started to happen out of the blue a few days ago.
The problem, in a nutshell, is that whatever I try to do, be it recreate the entries in the Address Book, create a duplicate entry with the same name, use the O2 Plus feature which lets you save a contact to your address book and make a new entry like that... Whatever I do, whenever I receive a new text message, the person's name isn't shown as the sender, just their mobile number in international format.
Even if I have that contact in my phone already, with their number in the same format as is shown on the text message (+447...), their name doesn't show at all. It's really starting to annoy me, as I've not added or removed anything to my XDA and yet this problem isn't going away.
Argh! Anybody have any ideas as to what's wrong? I might ring O2's oddly-named Data Support and quiz them about this tomorrow, too...
Cheers again everyone,
Christopher
When you search the forum for "CallerID" you'll find a few people asking about the same problem, mainly when receiving calls however not SMS' and some suggestions.
Do you have photos attached to your contacts? I'd try reinstalling the CallerID_Alpine_... from your Extended_Rom, if all fails it might be easiest to restore a backup (if you got one that is).
hth,

I did some further testing today, borrowed a mate's phone and rang mine... Bizarre, the first time my phone was rung, it would take approx. 30 seconds for the name of the caller to show, the number showed up fine though. Subsequent dials would result in the name showing up almost instantly (as usual)...
.... Veeeeeeery odd. I'll just dash off and try reinstalling this CallerID cab...
all messages on my Tilt are coming in as text only, whats up?
Also seen this on a treo 500v.... any ideas?
Same issue on my Tilt running the Att 4.4 aku ROM. Stopped receiving HTML emails about 1-1/2 weeks ago.
Running WL Build 10.6.33.600. On At&t in DFW area.
Working here
Just checked mine.
The first time it just shows up text(have it set to dload only 2kb)-but if I download the whole message, I still get the option to dload images. full html.
Alemaker
Sorry, I should have clarified.
I am experiencing the same as Alemaker. First only text comes through and I can download the message to receive HTML. However, until just a few weeks ago, the messages would be delivered in HTML which saved me a lot of time.
Also, the original text that is delivered is not the entire message, it is a tiny portion (like 2-3 lines) even though I have my settings to receive 30,000 characters. this also started the same time my HTML mails started coming in as text.
Either way I think there are some major issues going on with Windows Live. Does MS have a newsgroup for this software?
Newsgroup Link:
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...e32-8547-4f92-9cd7-93b34c45c393&lang=en&cr=US
That was the closest newsgroup I could find, but there is no mention of our issue that I could find.
I have a "3" email account setup on my phone through IMAP4.
I am suddenly unable to send out emails with attachments. I get an error msg along the lines of check your connection or email settings. Everything appears correct given that it all worked in the past and nothing seems to have changed.
I have tested it online by sending emails from my 3 account. But on my phone it doesn't want to send. Normal emails without attachments send fine.
Can anyone help?
The best is to delete the account and recreate it from scratch.
Already gave that a go but it repeated it with the new email account as well.
I have no idea whatsoever how to repair this problem?
Is it possible that the registry has somehow been edited (i.e. via a program) that has caused email attachments to not send. If so, what registry code may have been edited and what should it read?
I found a few links about the problem:

I have windows mobile 6.0 but it shows these same issues. Has anyone else had this problem?
Yes, I'm among several (thousands?) of people who've had this problem: it's very very annoying. The second of the two links above describes the problem exactly and MS's (for once) semi-sensible response. The first is just plain wrong: I've tried the fix that's suggested (switch your attachment storage away from the microSD card) and it doesn't work.

Are you commenting on the fix listed here http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2008/10/15/windows-mobile-smtp-fix or a different fix listed on carlisle post
When I'm compiling emails on my TyTN II, I find that often my email will be unintentionally sent when I'm only part way through due to a keyboard combination being used. Section 7.7 of the TyTN II user manual (page 134) refers to keyboard shortcuts and mentions holding down the S key is a shortcut to send the message but as in this (much) earlier thread I found relating to Accidentally pressing keyboard shortcut to send SMS, it refers to SMS sending and I'm having the issue with email. Is this pressing the softkey still the cause (I'm pretty sure it seems more like pressing a combination of keys around the S that are doing it in my case). More importantly, has anyone found a Cab, fix or even a WWE HTC ROM to stop this happening?
It's very annoying and I would have though some solution must have been found by now. I'll mention it in a letter to HTC but based on their past 'performance', I don't hold out much hope of a quick (or even eventual) fix from them. I'm therefore hoping for a solution from forum members so please let me know.
For me, its happened when i accidentally hit the send soft key between the R and T. I know its pretty bad sending half an uneditted email to a client and then having to send another email explaining why it happened and carrying on from there.. very unproffesional.
My solution to this problem is to simply cut and past the recipients email address from the to field to the subject field. Then once i'm done editing and everythings squared off and ready to go, i'll just cut and paste from the subject field back into the to field.
hope this little work around helps you. As for a hotfix or a confirmation message before sending it, i haven't heard of one.
I press that goddamn softkey all the time.....
It is really embarassing when you send a message half complete!
Good tip about the subject line
AEBPlus
I use AE Button Plus and have set the soft keys to ignore a single press. If I need to access the single-press application, then I just need to press on the screen.

Click to collapse
Thanks for that work-around, that'll certainly do the trick if I remember to blank the 'to' field before creating the email. I've also emailed the AE Button Plus email address to see if they are willing to make a version of the product that works just with the TyTN IIs email and SMS program when thats in operation. I've also unticked the 'send messages immediately' box in my Windows Live Options on the TyTN II (since I use my Hotmail account through this device). I've found that this puts my email into the drafts folder and it's only when I then send the draft that it actually leaves - it's a bit of a pain though given keyboard short cuts are supposed to help rather than hinder.Definitely one for HTC and Microsoft to address.
So I searched this forum and I can not seem to find anything that is pointing to my problem. But maybe my search-foo is not up to snuff. That aside, the error that I am getting is an android toaster notification of "Connection Error (<Account Name>)" I have re-done account setup 3 times with no luck. The odd thing is that I am able to send and receive email just fine, the annoying popup just keeps coming up.
Current setup
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Honeycomb 3.1 software
Exchange 2003
Corporate Email Client (Builtin to Honeycomb)
So after contacting several customer support staff sites and organizations, they said that they had seen issues where my problem was associated with a mail message that either a) only had a link in the body or b) had no subject text.
As I had like 400 mails sync'd over 3 days, I was not about to go through all of them, so what I did was remove the account (to flush all the mail) and then re add it with only 1 day sync'd. While the error was still present after this I decided to just let it ride until the following day (today). After my sync removed all of the messages minus 1 day sync'd I am good to go.
So now it would seem that I need to pay attention to the mails that come in to try and help trap the issue. I know in my organization people send emails sans subject all the time so that is going to be a rather large PITA but I think I can work around it. The link one is also a bit of a downer but again something I think I can work around if needed.
Hope this helps someone or at the very least some developer will come along and see this and fix it . Anyone know where you can go to report a bug like this?
So some further updates incase anyone else stumbles upon this. Curly brackets in the subject will cause an error '{' or '}'
