Interested Newbie Query - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

So, I am a newbie ... a newbie willing to learn Up until now, I've been using the P1i and hacked it successfully. The windows OS however is a new ball game!
I had the Xperia in hand for a couple of days, had a feel of it and gave it back to a friend. I now intend to take it back and play with it!
I intend on getting my phone to a state as seen in the video/ pictures on:
Xperience v4.5 Landscape (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485624&highlight=Touch+IT+4.5)
Touch-IT 7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503732)
XPERIA Gen II (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497092)
Wanting to see my phone as mentioned above, I've been searching and reading the forums for some days now. Aside from getting more fascinated, I have not really managed to understand a whole lot and hence am looking forward to helpful folks out here to lead me initially through my first couple of experiments.
On that note, can some one first tell me what is Hard SPL and if I MUST necessarily do it before I start modifying my X1?
Hard-SPL for Xperia X1 - Released! (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431218)
I noticed this huge "THE XPERIA X1 LIBRARY" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=477801) and was wondering which of those I must use?
And finally, is there a starters/ toddlers/ newbies guide to work through to my first real mod? With so many materials out here, its really difficult to understand the real starting point!
Details of my device:
ROM Version: 1.02.931.3
Date : 08/29/08
Radio Version: 1.06.25.29
Soft Id: 1213.6450
Soft Version: R1AA017
Customization Id:1215-1832
Custom.. Version:R15Awhat
Custom.. Variant:Generic UK
Thanks in advance for any help
PS. If someone can point me to thread for where I could get a start, that would be great ... something like what is hard spl and what are the first steps I should go through!

yeah, interesting... I have visited XDA-developers site many times since 2007. I have learned some of the stuffs reading through thousands of pages. But still learning... and GOOGLE....GOOGLE and GOOGLE.
I heard that somebody has made an ebook with all the stuffs you are asking and selling it for 99 Euro. Do you wanna buy?

Begin with the library!

the video biovolt posted help me out plenty and should be the same for all newbies. you will only thank him for doin it in the 1st place.

You definately need to HardSPL first before fashing a custom ROM...I recommend doing this because you are still using R1AA...
Anyway read the sticky Threads and you should find help!
The last thing: Nice to see you here, congrats to your first posting!

Yes I believe that you need to hard spl before a custom rom. But dont take my word for it, im still a newb

blue angel upgrade newbie.. help

hi i would like u guys to put some links for me..
latest upgraded rom, radio for blue angel....
latest ware that works best..
i just got my blue angel unit.. tnx guys!!!
Suggest to start digging through this forum, there are numerous threads that will answer your question.
Also have a look here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/ to learn more about your device and how to upgrade, unlock, etc.
I have to admit - I have trawled the forum and the wiki many times but am still unclear as to the 'EXACT' steps I should follow to upgrade my O2 (now unlocked to Vodafone) XDA2s to the latest radio stack. It would be great if one of the more experienced members did a step by step for us less experienced...??

Have you read the thread on the radio stack 1.08.00? Should be clear and simple no?
If you have specific questions, then ask them in that thread...people are really good here with helping you. But to answer the very first question in this thread is impossible...we need to know what the current config is, what the provider is, language, ROM versions, etc.
It looked clear and simple but I got hung up on the 'make sure you change the country code/operator' bit. Can't afford to muck my phone up so thought I'd wait and see how others did it. Will have another look mid-week once I am back home
Cheers - R

Romkitchen for the wizard or for windows mobile 5.0

Please can someone help us unknowlegeble people create something like that for us (romkitchen for windows mobile 5.0)
Thank you.
do your own research
try doing some research instead. I bought my first windows smart phone one week ago, researched the ROM upgrades and methods at this forum and others. I was able to unlock my phone, safely backup my stock ROM, and flash a much improved radio and firmware package without any trouble thanks to the excellent resources available.
If you want someone to do it for you or hold your hand, you have no business hacking your phone anyway. Leave it to those who can research for themselves.
......hes kinda got a point there the, wiki should be your 1st stop not the forum

Hi there, sonny.
Yes, it is possible.
So far, my reply is the only one you will get, because these s*ckers seems to have something against noobs.
anyway, if you don't understand the steps in the wiki, i can give you a hand, and help you, stuff i never got from those guys.
Thank you a lot, can you put the principal steps to make a good rom update in the forum ???
thank

its not some are againts noobs, everyone is here to help, and learn, but if someone is asking the same set of questions which are answered several times in the forum or mentioned in the wiki, then......................
Yes I understand but I'm not totally sure about what I have readed in the wiki and I don't want to break my Blue Angel because it's an expensive phone. So if someone can just give me some steps to do a good rom update it would be very cool
If i would act like that on my 2 forums, for sure they would be empty right now.
And i never got help here!
All i know now, and have my BA in less than a week, i took the risk to try!
Nicely, I have now one great rom, and the PDA at his top!
Everyone can read the wiki, yes, thats true, but is very normal someone have doubts, is afraid, etc!
Beside following the wiki steps, it is important that you have the battery charged, and the minimum amount of programs running on the computer.
Those 2 basic steps will help a lot.
Well you guys want too much don't you think ?
Why don't you ask HTC or Microsoft for a guide with simple steps and pictures ?
I will answer the above question - because they won't bother to make it, operators have rom upgrading guides, if you know basic procedure you will have no problem using MAUpgradeUT_NOID.exe for upgrade, it is written all over the board, but someone should read it.
Everyone has more or less fear when he upgrade hes device for a first time, here was the same, i took the risk and a after more than a year i am rom maker (not consider myself as the best one)
TIP: You do not need to read, you must read and understand what you are reading
I don't have any problems to upgrade at my own.
I upgraded, downgraded, upgraded again, etc, and din't asked help to do those stuff.
But you know, no one is equal to another and everyone is different.
If he is afraid and have doubts, what we should do?
Spank him? No!

General queries before flashing HTC P3600i

Hi Guys
I have a HTC P3600i in Australia. I had a few queries before I try flashing my phone.
These are my current settings.
ROM Version: 3.00.707.18
ROM Date: 07/24/07
Radio Version: 1.46.30.11
Protocol Version: 32.79.7020.19H
Now I wanted to put Windows Mobile 6.1 into my PDA..
1) Which is the best combination of Hard SPL + Radio + ROM to put onto my mobile. Can you please provide links here.. I got totally lost on the forum..
2) If I flash and something goes wrong, or if later I want to put it back with its original ROM (found on the HTC website), is it possible to do?
3) Any other things I should know before flashing the three things mentioned above
4) Anything else you guys will recommend to put in to the mobile.
Thanks in advance u guys

NO the Hard SPL for P3600i (search for the thread) is only the Hard SPL.
As for ROM's it comes down to personal choice. There is a specific thread for P3600i ROMs that work, that is the best place to look....read...and make up your mind from there.

What about question 2??
its tough to get to know all those ROM.. can u suggest a few
thanks
OK:
1. Use the flashing tutorial at the top of the "Trinity upgrading" thread.
2. Flash with a ROM from the P3600I Rom Collection thread in the "Trinity Mobile 6" subforum.
Prob best to just go with the 31XiTNY ROMs as a good start... from there you can either decide to CBF and stick with it or try a few different ones... depends how keen you are on this stuff.
As for the risk of screwing things up, your only risk is first getting HardSPL on... if you can get that on and working fine, then a screwed-up ROM flash won't be an issue, you just start over again.
HardSPL has had over 1000 downloads from this week, and no one yet has reported having trouble flashing their P3600i, so I doubt you'll have any issues I know the first time I got into this I was ****ting myself wondering whether I made the wrong choice, but everything completed fine
Of course, you can never tell what will happen, etc. etc. lol so yeh up to you, but the benefits are definitely worth the risks lol

Funny you say that when people keep asking for a working HARD SPL for some of the P3600i because it simply doesn't work on all P3600i.
Did you miss that?

4 people out of over 1000 downloads isn't a big percentage. That and the fact that the OP is based in Australia and all of the australian P3600i from HTC work with Hard SPL (as far as we know) put the comment into context.
It is unfortunate that there are some out there who are not able to complete the HardSPL flash, but there isn't a lot that can be done. If you guys are adamant that the phone is a P3600i and the standard WWE ROM lashes ok on it then it should work with the HardSPL from Olipro.
Andych is right...
Plus now downloads are up to 1119 for HardSPL... 4 problems out of 1119 is something like 0.3%... so 99.7% have had NO problems.
I'd dare say that's statistically insignificant, and that the likelihood of this being a problem with HardSPL itself is low... or possibly some P3600i's are incompatible, unfortuneately - either way, if 99.7% of users have had success, I'd say that's pretty much everyone.
Ok..
So for
Hard SPL: I use Olipro 1.30
Radio: I use v1.56.70.11
ROM: any mentioned here on the thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=399779) recommended 31XiTNY
Is that right??
Also someone was telling me about Soft SPL. He has used it in his Herems. Does that work for us?? and how does it work?
Thanks for you statistics lesson ..
I understand your point of view guys .. but if one day you will be in this 0.3%
and everybody will keep tapping you on the back saying "sorry, it should work.." .. we will see how nice will be me calling you "statistically insignificant"

Robert....trust me....for 12 months we WERE the 0.3% so we know your frustration. The problem is that most of us flashed the HardSPL 3 months ago and as it is a Flash once operation it is impossible to replicate the errors you are having. The other difficult part is the that the Supreme genius Olipro who gave us the HardSPL is not fully engaged in his Diamond projects so I doubt he has either the time or the inclination to offer any assistance....sad, but that is the way life is.
I will re-read the problems you and the pther couple of psters are having and see if there are any other things you can try. I do remember though that you all had slightly different Error Codes, which is a concern.
Anyway, hang in there, I won;t get a real chance to read and digest the info before the weekend....but I will do it and post back in that thread.

If you wish I can provide IM and desktop sharing so that you can watch how I do it ... maybe it is us who do it wrong .. I am newbie in flashing but I have 10-12 years of PC experience .. so I doubt I can't follow a simple guide ...
PM me when you have 10 minutes and maybe we can sort this out ...

Need to Re-cook Rom easiest way - need simplest 123 steps - Sorry, I know the rules.

I know there are tutorials, but they are way too much too read, I was wondering if some expert chef pens down simple method of re-cooking the Rom with any tracking software, so that all the novices like me can protect our expensive phone.
All I am asking for is with kitchen to use for 6.5 Roms and how to re-cook it with any tracking software, in simple steps.
Pls dont get offended by my pic.
Thanks
So you want someone to produce a halfassed tutorial that may not be complete and cover everything. Sounds good, I think I would like to make a rom myself.

If they are long there might be a reason, like, because those steps are actually needed to cook a ROM?
Maybe you could do the effort of reading the tutorials instead of asking someone to "donate" you 10x more of their own time to rewrite something just for you when everything's already there...
u CAN NOT recoock any wm6.5 ROM
u can coock one u self and put inside whatever u want .
ALL NEW ROMS are protected for recoocking by the new basic tool from BEPE .
bye
Your best bet would be too watch the videos in the wiki. They are stright forward and very easy to follow, and if that is too much , you should not be cooking roms for your phone. When I first started cooking, I had a hard time following the text walkthrough untill I found the videos. Maybe you can talk to one of the cooks that have released a 6.5 rom and see if they will help you.
Here are the Videos:

I was asking for help, I know tutorial are there, and I have read it, I am very sure, not many people have time to experiment. All I am asking for is how to insert tracking software in Cooked Rom, thats in easy step, without getting in to changes to the Chefs Rom. Only thing added to the Rom will be the tracking Software.
