I think you are confused about the difference between WM and the x86 side of the shift. Windows 7 is the latest (beta) operating system from microsoft and it doesn't have anything to do with WM.
However, you can download it from known torrent sites. Check out my guide for instructions on how to install it. Build 7077 is the latest leaked build.
When it comes to WM you will find several different ROM versions on this forum. I would recommend Thaihugo's "age of reason" or iOO's ROM.

Yes thanks what i meant was exactly what you are saying i want to run the vista or w 7 on my shift i already installed thaihugos age of reason thanks but i want to run windows 7 on the vista side

Did you install Ubuntu using Wubi installer or did you create a separate partition for it?
If you installed using Wubi installer you can simply uninstall Ubuntu using "Program manager" (in control panel) in Vista.
If you created a separate partition you need to remove the linux partition from your system. This can be done in several different ways:
- Right click on My Computer, select "manage", select "storage management", right click the linux partition and select "remove partition".
In some cases windows will be unable to remove the partition and you will have to use third-party software like Paragon Partion manager or windows built in fdisk (command line partitioning software).
Also note that if you used a boot manager (like LILO or GRUB) and installed it to the MBR of your primary partition you might need to boot the Vista DVD and repair startup problems.
If you made the linux partition "active" you need to use the diskpart command to set Vista "active" again.
I hope this is helpful. Use google for more info. (search for "Ubuntu uninstall guide" or something like that)

You can do this on the shift or on a desktop computer.
Type the command like this:
C:\> diskpart

That's because you probably haven't partitioned you harddrive yet.
Use a suitable partitioning program ("Paragon Partition Manager" or similar) and shrink your C: to approximately 20GB. Then create a new partition with the empty space.
Then you will see two partitions in windows 7 setup.

Linux BlueAngel WM5

i want setup Linux with my PPC.
i have some problem:
when I click haret-0.3.8.exe then Linux run.
Screen show stop at
Familiar login:root
and Password:rootme
~#
after login, i can't fdisk, because hard keyboard cant add "+31M" . "+" not show.
Who can help me add " + " charactor or telnet PC windows to PPC BlueAngel WM2005 by Haret?
How are you getting HAret to boot linux from WM2005?
From everything I've read and tried, it will only boot from WM2003.
If you have haret booting a kernel from 2005, what's in your default.txt file?

It's not true for a long time. The problem was (as usual) the wince5 misreporting
device RAM size.
you need to set the ramsize variable (if haret does not know that BA uses 128M RAM) and use the "mem=128M" kernel command line parameter.

Format SD-Card
Become root and create 2 partitions on the SD-Card
The first partition is for the kernel, startup scripts and bootloader. The second is for the GPE image. One of 30MB (for kernel and bootloader) and another (or rest of SD) for the GPE image.
fdisk /dev/sda
This exmaple assumes that /dev/sda is your sd card on your host.
If you only found /dev/sda1 insted of sda, that means that the card is already formated and contains a partition, in this case you need to delete this partition and create new ones
fdisk /dev/sda1
Press p to list the partitions and its numbers
Press d to delete a partition
Press w to save and exit
Then start creating the partitons on /dev/sda1
Press n to create new partition
Press p to choose type primary
Press enter to default to create partition starting from first cylinder for the first one, or right after it for the second one
Enter size of the new partiton ex: +30M
The first partition you crete (for kernel and bootloader) must be of type that windows understands, like FAT16 or FAT32, or else the card would not be read by the device at all
Press t to change the partition type from "83 Linux" to "c FAT32"

I'm a long-time unix/linux user and I've always been intrigued by this linux port. Does it do the following:
make calls
activesync (or other outlook sync)
wifi
gprs
VNC Client
SSH Client
If it does all of these, I might just be up for jumping aboard. Is the switch-over a one-way thing, or can you go back to Windows Mobile?
Finally, is this still under active development by anyone?

Save Hard disk space after SP1 install

Hi,
Just for everyone to know this trick: After SP1 install, you lose a few gig of disk space.
If you want to keep SP1 permanently, use the command:
vsp1cln.exe
You will recover 800 Mb or more.
You cannot uninstall SP1 afterward, except if you reset vista part using Shift+F3
Thank you for posting this tip.
Excellent. I you am pleasing. Sorry for my english.
Clean after Vista SP2
Hello, after installing Vista SP2 I searched and found this on the web. Help it will be of use to some people:
To housekeep your hard disk and clean up those old and unused SP1 backup files, users probably can try the new Service Pack Cleanup Tool which is also named as compcln.exe. This successor for SP1 cleanup tool, Vsp1cln.exe, can easily remove all the system files (RTM & SP1) inherited from the older versions but replaced by Vista SP2.
Running this compeln.exe tool is pretty simple:
1. Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt or click Start>Run and type cmd to open Command Prompt Windows
2. Execute the command “Compcln.exe”. The path is “c:\Windows\System32 \compcln.exe”.
3. Users will be prompted a question whether to keep Vista SP2 permanently in the system.
4. Once users type “Y” and press enter, the system will start performing the windows components clean

Booting a Windows 7/Vista/(XP?) Installation from a USB Key (Tutorial)

The following is meant to save you a lot of time, health and annoyance,
I've done this with both Windows 7 (x86 and x64) and Windows Vista.. didn't check XP.
Instead of burning 9000 bootable DVDs for every new OS/SP that's out... you can just boot your installation from a USB key. thus far, a 4GB one suffices for every operating system i can think of.
let's go.
1. run CMD
2. type "diskpart"
3. connect your USB Key
4. type "list disk" (you will see a list of all available storages)
5. type "select disk #" # being your USB Key drive number.
6. type "clean"
7. type "create partition primary"
8. type "select partition 1"
9. type "active"
10. type "format fs=fat32"
11. after the format is complete, type "assign"
12. exit all cmd windows and copy all files from your windows ISO to the key.
13. load your bios and set the USB key to be the first choice in the booting sequence. the installation should load...
14. cheers.
15. later.
P.S. I have a friend who's trying to write a Toshiba Flash BIOS version which can boot from SD.. this actually means that you'll have an SD card on standby with a windows installation and you'll be able to format your comp easily.
thankfully, if you have a 4GB one, you'll also be able to create a small data image of your comp with a few applications.. and maybe some outlook data/bookmarks.
I don't trust he'll be successful with this.. and not because i distrust his abilities but because this is EXTREMELY hard to do. Hope is always welcome tho.
Thanks!
Thjis is very usefull info
I´ll try to install windows 7
Cheers,
Whoever tries Windows 7, go for build 7100. DO NOT INSTALL 7105,7110 or 7068!
Also, the installation using the USB Key turns out to be about 1.5-1.7 times faster than from a DVD.
A similar method (SD card) I used to install Win XP on my netbook. I can tell you one thing though, it's not the easiest thing to do on a computer
Cheers
Please write how you did that. thanks

I'll do but for the moment I'm at work.
Ok, I'm back from work and apparently something is wrong with xda server (page loades very slow) and I can't upload the procedure, so it's going to be a long page.
This procedure worked for my Asus 1000H (I have tried two other methods and failed) and what is more important, I found it on internet, so it's not my procedure.
"Here's a good guide to installing Windows XP on your EEEPC.
Hardware you'll need
1.) A USB memory key. 1GB is recommended, but if your going to use a custom nLite installation of Windows XP, then you can get away with a 512MB one.
2a.) A SD Memory Card. Any size will do, even if you have a 16MB one laying around, that's heaps.
OR
2b.) A Second USB memory key. Any size. (It should be noted I've only tried this with the SD card option)
3.) A Windows XP SP 2 Installation CD.
Software you'll need
1.) Download physdiskwrite. A small utility to use for creating a boot disk for our XP installation.
http://m0n0.ch/wall/physdiskwrite.php
2.) A boot disk image.
http://freepctech.com/pc/002/files010.shtml
Grab the one called 'MS Windows XP System Setup Disk'.
Step 1: Creating a SD boot disk
Create a temporary directory on your PC and unzip physdiskwrite.exe into this folder.
Using your file compression program (WinRAR, WinZip, 7Zip etc) extract the file "WXPBOOT.IMA" to the same folder as physdiskwrite.exe.
NOTE: The wxpboot.exe is not an archive, programs such as WinRAR may throw an error, but still extract at least 'WXPBOOT.IMA'.
Insert your SD or your 2nd USB memory key into your PC.
Next go to into disk management of your PC by going into:
Control Panel --> Administration Tools --> Computer Management --> Disk Management
Make a special note of the drive number (not the letter) of your SD card or USB memory key.
Next open a command line and navigate to your temp directory where physdiskwrite.exe is located.
Type: physdiskwrite -u wxpboot.ima
WARNING: It will list all of your drives and ask you which one you want to write to. BE VERY CAREFUL HERE.
You need to make sure you aren't writing to any of your actual hard disks.
It should only take a few seconds. This device becomes your 'boot disk'.
Step 2: Copying XP to your USB memory key
Take your windows XP installation CD and stick it in your DVD/CD drive.
Copy the folder 'i386' to your USB key (the first one, not the one you put your boot disk onto).
If you are using a standard XP SP2 CD without using nLite, it will be around 550MB to put on.
I'd highly encourage anyone doing this to grab nlite at http://www.nliteos.com to cut down the size of your Windows XP size.
Remove unwanted or unneeded utilites and applications to save room. (I was able to cut the CD size down to 325MB without to much sacrifice).
This USB key becomes our 'Windows Disk'.
Step 3: Preparing EEEPC
Insert your SD boot disk into the SD card slot, or USB port if it's a memory key.
Boot your EEEPC and go into it's bios by hitting F2 when it first switches on.
Change 'OS Insallation' to 'Start'. Hit F10 to save and exit.
As soon as the EEPC restarts hit escape to load the boot loader.
At the memu choose either your SD card if you used that, or the USB mem key.
It shouldn't take long and at some point will ask you to hit any key to continue.
When you finaly reach a command prompt you should see:
'A:\'
Type: fdisk
When asked if you want to enable large HDD support just hit Y or enter.
It should show several non-DOS partitions, and a DOS partition named BIOS. We want to wipe all these.
Once you've wiped all three partitions create a new partition DOS partition. Save and exit.
Restart your EEEPC (ALT+CTRL+DEL will do the trick here) and boot back into your boot disk again.
This time at the command prompt:
Type: format c: /s
Once it's formated ensure that the boot linux boot loader is gone by typing:
Type: fdisk /mbr
Your SSD should now be bootable to DOS without a boot disk.
Step 4: Installing XP Pro
Insert your Windows USB memory key into the left hand side USB port . The reason for this is that the boot disk assigns this port as 'D:\'.
Reboot your EEEPC back into the boot disk. Once there:
Type: d:
Type: cd i386
Type: winnt
The Windows XP installation should start. The first part will be windows copying temp files to your SSD drive.
Windows may ask you where the i386 folder is. Just make it's pointed to the 'D:\i386' directory.
When it's finished copying these files and is about to reboot, remove your USB memory key/s, and or SD memory card from the EEEPC as you won't require these anymore.
Reboot your EEEPC. You should see a windows boot loader appear that shows:
Windows
Windows XP Install/Upgrade (Or something to that nature).
Just let it boot on it's own, it will automatically start the next phase.
Now you should see the normal Windows XP installation start. When it asks you would you like to convert your HDD to NTFS, you should say yes.
From that point on, it should be a normal XP installation.
Once it's complete and booted into windows the first time, restart the EEEPC, go into the bios by hitting F2 and change 'OS Installation' to 'Finished'.
It's recommended to install the ACPI driver, and then the chipset driver before other drivers.
Hopefully by this stage your in your fully functioning Windows XP EEEPC!
Just remember if you want to return at anytime back to the original image, you can create a new bootable restoration disk from the included EEEPC DVD.
One last thing. To remove the boot loader at the start of loading windows (where it asks you where you'd like to boot) go to:
Right Click My Computer->Properties->Advanced->Startup and Recovery
Make sure "Windows XP" is your default OS, and untick the "Time to display list of Operating Systems."
The EEEPC will then boot straight into Windows."
Cheers
thank you very much

Easiest way ever to install win7 on shift

I had many difficulties to install windows 7 to my shift, maybe because of my USB stick. And then every guide was a little bit complicated - too many instructions, too many steps, too easy to make a mistake and then go back to the beginning..
Didn't want to buy an external dvd-drive either..
Anyway, all this before I found this article.
Check this out
Installing Windows 7 without using a DVD or USB via direct method - No USB stick required. No USB drive required
In this method we install Windows 7 on a clean partition like the normal DVD boot method. Only change is we don’t use a DVD drive in this guide. Please follow the below instructions carefully and don’t skip any steps to make things quickly!
1. Download the Windows 7 ISO files from Microsoft. I hope you have already downloaded one.
2. Download and install Virtual Clone Drive from http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html
3. Firstly, go to the directory where you have saved Windows 7 ISO file. Right-click on the ISO file, select Open with and then select “Mount files with Virtual Clone Drive” to mount your ISO file.
4. Go back to My Computer (or Just Computer) and then double-click on the Virtual Clone Drive icon to start Windows 7 installation process.
Yes, you are installing Windows 7 without a DVD or USB drive!
5. Next, follow the normal Windows 7 installation procedure to finish the installation. Windows may restart during the install process. Worry not, everything will go fine.

ok, now the short way to make a bootable USB Disk to install Vista/7
cmd

list disk
select disk $ [where $ is the number of the USB Disk listed in the list disk command]
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format fs=ntfs quick label="InstallUSB"
assign
exit
exit
Copy the content of your Installation Disk on USB and boot from it, just simple as that

I just tried it out and it installs it over the existing running windows, doesn´t matter if it was downgraded to xp, or already upgraded to 7, it will install a new and fresh copy of Win 7 in your local drive, regardless of the existing vista recovery partion, which can be used in any time... (I hope to get ride of it once Win 7 final version comes out...)
When the installation is complete, a folder called "old windows" saves all the files from the preivous running operating system, bt since it´s over 10 GB, I suggest you erase it..

Great..............Shift on W7.
Please someone could tell me if the differences are big using W7 instead Vista.
So, it's a great solution to move Shift to run on W7, or not ?
I upgraded my hard drive then changed to windows 7 with a clean install. It is amazing how much better my shift runs now that it is on W7. It is really worth it to upgrade.

[GUIDE]How to install Windows 7 retail via USB drive

Hey people. Think you have seen a thread like this before? Well, that's because you have. But THIS thread is different! For two reasons:
1-It's written in GOOD English. No offense folks, but spell checking is really not that hard.
and
2-It deals with EVERYTHING you need to do to get Windows 7 retail up and running on the Shift.
If you see something that needs to be changed/corrected/updated then please feel free to let me know!
HOW-TO INSTALL WINDOWS 7 RETAIL VIA USB ON THE HTC SHIFT X9000 SERIES
Now, before we begin, this guide assumes a few things:
1-that you are using a RETAIL or RTM copy of Windows 7. This guide WILL NOT work with beta or RC versions of Windows 7 OR versions that are N-lited, stripped or altered in anyway. You MUST be using a retail image, either made from a disc you own or from other sources. Please note that we at XDA do not support piracy and suggest that you buy a legal copy of Windows.
2-That you are using a GSM version of the Shift, IE the X9500 or X9501. While these instructions will work with the CDMA version of the Shift, I personally do not have one so I cannot confirm if/how the CDMA radio works using this installation method.
3-That your version of Windows 7 ISN'T Home Basic. While Home Basic will work, it doesn't support touchscreens. I personally installed Ultimate, as the requirements are the same no matter what version you use.
To install you will need:
1-A Shift(duh!)
2-A copy of Windows 7 RTM or a retail disc
3-A USB drive that is 4GB or greater, but no larger than 32GB for Windows
4-A USB drive(any size really) for the storage of HTC drivers for post installation
5-Some time on your hands
6-Either another PC with a CD drive or a USB CD drive
Now onto the good stuff!
1-Let's begin. Insert your Windows 7 DVD into your CD drive. If you are using an ISO image, skip to step 4.
2-Make a folder on your desktop called Windows 7.
3-Copy ALL the files from your Windows 7 DVD into the folder you just made. Be patient as this process will take some time, especially if you are doing this on your Shift.
4-While the files are copying(or after they are done, whatever) go ahead and insert your USB drive into a free port.
5-Open "My Computer" and locate your USB drive. Right click on it and select "Format". Click the menu which says-"File System" and select "NTFS" from the options. Then click Format and let it finish. It should take just a few moments.
6-Once your USB drive has been formatted, open a command prompt and type the following command:
BOOTSECT.EXE /NT60 H:
Where "H" is your the letter of your USB drive.
7-Your USB drive should now be ready to use!
8-Insert your USB drive into your Shift's USB port, press the power button and repeatedly press F10 as it starts to be brought to the Boot Menu and select your USB drive and hit enter.
9-Windows should begin loading setup information now. It should take around 5-ish minutes to get to the graphical part of the installer.
10-When you are presented with the graphical portion, select your country and whatnot, then a username and such, and when it asks you if you want to Upgrade or Custom install, select Custom.
11-You will now need to format your Shift's harddrive. Select the partition that is displayed and select "Format". PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WILL DELETE WINDOWS VISTA FROM YOUR SHIFT. YOU CANNOT RECOVER ANYTHING THAT IS DELETED. Your recovery partition however is not touched in anyway, so if Windows 7 doesn't work for you, you can reinstall the stock Vista from the recovery partition.
12-Once it is finished formatting, select that partition to install to and continue on with the installation.
13-When it finishes you SHOULD be presented with the Windows 7 desktop. And that's about it. No WiFi. No sound. Pretty much nothing. Now, you DID download the drivers and put them on another USB drive right? Right? GOOD!
14-Insert your USB drive and let Windows install it. Now, ALL of the drivers that we are about to install MUST be installed in the same fashion as I am about to describe. Right click each one and select properties. Click the compatability tab and select the option to have the installer run in compatibility mode for Windows Vista. This MUST be done or the drivers WILL NOT install.
15-Once you have done that, go ahead and install the following drivers. Don't worry about the other ones for right now. Install them IN THIS ORDER OR ELSE THEY WILL NOT WORK:
1-Vista Intel Chipset driver
2-Vista ECD
3-HTC Touchscreen
4-HTC ShagCTRL
5-Marvel SDIO WiFi
After you have installed those 4 drivers, restart your Shift.
16-Once your Shift has restarted, go ahead and press the Comm. Manager button. Shift Control Center should pop-up and your WiFi card should begin installing. If it doesn't, click on the button for WiFi and make it say "ON" and it should then start installing.
17-Once your WiFi card is succesfully installed, click Start->Windows Update.
18-Click on "Check for updates" on the left hand side and let Windows do it's thing. It should find 60-ish updates for download, around 6 of which are drivers for your various devices such as sound and Bluetooth and the like. Don't worry, your screen resolution WILL get better!
19-After Windows has installed updates..you are pretty much done! EVERYTHING should now be working in Windows 7!
20-ENJOY 3(!) HOURS OF STOCK BATTERY LIFE ON YOUR SHIFT RUNNING WINDOWS 7!
That's about it folks. I worked for 2 days straight to devise this method for installing Windows 7 on my Shift, and it couldn't work any better. If you find a mistake, or have a suggestion please let me know!
Great!

it went fine till step 16, the Comm. Manager button doesnt open anything, however the wifi works ok.
please tell me how does the Comm. Manager work
and now it just wont boot, it gives a blue screen and tells me theres an error, and automatically shut down.
What error does it give you? Are you ABSOLUTELY SURE that you are using a GENUINE untouched OEM RTM copy? This process ONLY WORKS with the legal untouched OEM RTM. If you are trying this with some kinda downloaded ISO it WILL fail and bluescreen on you. It must be build 7600 or higher. Comm. Manager just works for me under 7 following these instructions.
Hi! Thank you for the guide, everything is fine! The only thing doesn't work is the touchscreen. I've installed the touchscreen drivers in compatibility mode Windows Vista SP2 and as Administrator. Do you have any idea?
EDIT: Solved! I reinstalled the driver for the 8th time and it worked!
