typing on the device - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Hello,
I am really thinking of getting the HTC touch diamond2. I currently have HTC tilt (or tytn II). I use it mostly for messaging. Anyways, my question is: how easy is it to type on the device? Is it as good as an iphone (better or worse)? Can you use your finger tips or do you have to use the stylus? Is there a video I can watch someone typing on it?
Thank you
I have moved from the Touch Pro (with keyboard) like yourself I used it for texts and emails, I thought I would hate the new keyboard but its pretty good, its got heptic feedback on the keys and they are nicely spaced out. Its very responsive to use, the best HTC keyboard I have used and I dont make many mistakes and dont have to use stylus.
new keyboard is great for typing...holding it in two hands a writing with both fingers without any mistake...
That is indeed good news. Can't wait until I get mine. Hopefully it arrives tomorrow. I also type a lot on it and I am hoping that will be a pleasant experience.
Personally I have gone from an AT&T Tilt (Full HW Keyboard) to the TD2 and also thought I would hate the lack of hardware keyboard, but it has really grown on me, and with no problems at all with typing I might stick with the TD2 instead of going onto the TP2. It just works for me, though lack of 3g sucks for me here in the states... lol
I'm thinking of maybe getting the UK version, cause the device is delayed here in Norway.
Question is: Is it difficult to access special symbols (letters) like Æ Ø Å on the UK keyboard?
I've never owned an HTC device so don't know how one normally access them. They are however crucial, and used quite frequently.

This is a very interesting question, I have refrained from UK version till now, waiting for the french version only to get a soft keyboard with french layout (including é, ç, à, ...). I do not care having the OS localized in english (in fact, i would even choose english over french for the OS), but the qwerty layout is a deal breaker.
Is it possible to change the keyboard layout? Or even better, add different keyboard layout and T9 dictionaries so they appear simultaneously in the WinMo entry switcher? I would love to just switch among the different keyboard installed if needed (having a french one and a non-western thai one would be great, adding japanese would be even better )
I ordered mine from Expansys and they told me, after having talked to HTC, that it would be possible to update the device to include different keyboard layouts. I hope this is correct, because I cannot be without Swedish characters. Otherwise, could Fingerkeyboard solve the issue?
Hi!
Originally I got the 20th of April as a dispatch date form KlartSvar (the reseller used by my employer), but as you say the device is delayed. I talked to a representative from Brightpoint this morning regarding the delay, and he said that the new delivery date to resellers is the 5th of May. Hopefully this is correct, I will wait until then before deciding if I have to look around for a WWE edition somewhere.
If someone could give some information about if it's possible to write accent characters on the WWE xT9 keyboards, I would appreciate the feedback.
I guess that cabs for all languages for EzInput2 (topaz HTC keyboards) will eventually be available anyway, when localized devices start hitting resellers in different countries.
Regards,
PK

Are you using the default EzInput? And in landscape mode or portrait? I have a Diamond and had to give up on the Full QWERTY as well as the Compact QWERTY because I hated one-handed typing (and it was too small to type with both hands).
I am currently using SpB Keyboard on my Diamond, with the landscape fullscreen keyboard, and so far that has helped a lot. I can type really fast with two thumbs now.
Special characters are available with the WWE version using the HTC full qwerty keyboard. They aren't visible on the keyboard, but if you press and hold for example the a key a popup character selector appears giving access to
eight different variations of accent including the Æ and Å (I'm typing this on a MAC and don't know how to access these characters on it so can only copy and paste)
You can also used the standard WM keyboard and get at them by pressing the symbol key, but its really only usable with the stylus.
I've got a Diamond, so my question is how is the qwerty keyboard in portrait mode? The reason I ask is because I read a review that said the screen width has not changed between the Diamond and Diamond2. That doesn't seem right. Can anyone comment on both the screen width and typing in portrait mode?
Hi!
Thanks for the feedback! What about the xT9 dictionary then, is it possible to switch to a different languages in the WWE edition? If so, which languages?

Its locked to english, but there may have been an option to select a different language at setup time, to be honest I can't remember and don't want to hard reset to find out. Perhaps someone else will know? If its English only that shouldn't really be a problem, just flash a ROM in your own language when its available.
Got my D2 today. Very happy. But there is no language option as far as the keyboard goes. Have not tried fingerkeyboard yet.

Best one-handed keypad / keyboard?
Hi all, First off, my first post here, so be gentle . I'm looking for a keypad or keyboard to install on my Vario III so that I can type SMSes with one hand whilst on the London Underground. As good as the keyboard is, it requires two hands to be usable. I've used the HTC Diamond keypad / keyboard pack that's on these boards, and another one after following a rabbit hole, and although they do as I want, they removed another functionality: Whilst typing on the real keyboard, I lost the word/ name suggestion box whilst typing! I find this box very useful, not least in the names section, and don't want it gone. So, in brief, can you guys recommend a one-handed keypad for SMSing, which doesn't lose that word suggestion box functionality? Many thanks guys!
Hi, I tried thumbkey but it is a little buggy Touchpal (especially the last Version, 3.0) is perfect for me...
Hi szdavid, just had a little go on touchpal now using the trail version, and although the suggestion box was there, I'm more of an 'oldie' when it coems to texting i.e. dislike T9 or any predictive texting, and it took a couple of different areas to get one char up (choose the button, then the character). I'll try the other one once I get up tomorrow. Thanks though, and any other suggestions out there?
If I were you, I would get the Touch Diamond Keypad. It is just like it is on a regular phone. I will attach the CAB as well as the other Touch Diamond Keyboard. The .CAB in this attachment is all 3 Touch Diamond Keyboards. 1 is Qwerty and 1 is the Keyboard and the other is the Keypad. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XXJ5J1OK

Is there something like that, except without the loss of that functionality, please?

tengo thumb gets my vote. http://www.tengo.net/tengo_thumb.html
I might try that Tengo one, and Jerwick, I did press that button, but it still didn't give me back the suggestion box.. I'm not sure you know which one i mean... I think it's the keypad /board's own predicter that's causing the problem and stopping the cursor suggesttion box... any tips?
I do know what you are talking about. On some occasions, it doesn't work for me either. It has some flaws- but other than that, it's about as basic as you can get.
pie, I never got it to work unfortuneatly, and I guess I use the inline thingy mor than the one-handy thingy guess that means that there isn't one with the same great functionality as that diamond one, then
ive actually started using the full keyboard one handed. slide it out and type with one hand, its hard to get used to.

OH, ANd THis ANoys ME TOo if I type too fast.
Right now, I'm using the resco keyboard which has already been mentioned. I was wondering if there was one similar to that with bigger buttons? It would make texting while doing other stuff much easier using both thumbs. Sometimes hitting the right key with the resco board is difficult as well.
Coudl we get the Diamond keyboard .CAB on another server? Please, we cant access megaupload in this country.

There is nothing better than the Touchpal once you learn to use it period. -McMex
Touchpal is the best for me hands down... It offers several input methods ranging from QWERTY to T9... And you can skin it very easily.

it seems like there are a lot of avodcates for the touchpal one, which I did like, but wasn't entirely happy with... I might end up with it because it's the nest of the lot that I've been recommended, that and maybe the resco one
+1 TouchPal for me
Keyboard layout and T9 function
Hi all, just got the diamond last week, damn its nice, just the battery life sucks. I used to own a UK T-Mobile Mda 3, loved the calender as i change shifts a lot, was looking to replace it a few months back heard tell of the diamond so decided to wait.......however... The sms full keyboard on my old MDA3 used to allow predictive words (t9 i think) but the diamond does not seem to, I like the keyboard layout over the qwerty or comapct qwerty as they both take up too much for the screen for my taste. The t9 does not seem to work in the keybaord layout, i think i have all the settings correct, as it works in the other 2 setups but not keybaord. also, is there a website that lists all the compatible 6.1 programs? not sure what i want, but more like teeter would be nice, or even a different sms prog that allows predictive text!! Cheers Lepak

This allows the predictive text to work correctly in standard keyboard too. I don't know if this mod can "damage" other settings but I don't think. It allows the predictive input to work using microsoft standard keyboard. In my device now works !

But I wanted that worked correctly standard keyboard without adding third part software. What is standard in my device MUST work correctly. Then perhaps I'll not use it, but this is another thing I'm paranoic. But I can't accept that a phone worth about 500€ does't go in the appropriate way......
Keyboard Replacement for Diamond II
Although i love my phone, sometimes it bugs me when sending messages or emails. I was wondering if there was an application out there that would allow me to either (temporarily) replace / swap arround the full screen keyboard for a standard cellphone looking like keypad (as in where you have to "press" the buttons multiple times for a letter) but would still support the "AT9" feature. I used the search & found somethin like Finger Keyboard 2 but it does not support my native language dutch. The auther claims that the dutch language uses the same as english layout. However this is only partially true. The phone does come with a qwerty layout, but its the dutch (NETHERLANDS) that use QWERTY on keyboards. I myself am BELGIAN (dutch, totally different country) and we use the AZERTY layout on our keyboards. Although it are minute differences in the layout it still often leaves me searching for letters, symbols. Can anyone help me ?
You might want to try this and see if it works but i cant say it will 100% but give it a shot. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486227
any way to get Japanese?
Hi all. I just bought my first Android phone and since on my iPhone I can have Japanese keyboard and text too, I was wondering if the same is possible in Android phone like the Liquid. Thank you

Great Navygino! I just dloaded openwnn, but there is another one too I'd like to test... And switch to Jpn keyboard is even faster than iPhone since on Appele you got to cicle through all the enabled keybs, here you just long press a key and voilà! I'm so happy now!!
keyboard layout it's a bit off topic but didn't seem worth opening a new thread. i'm putting it here as it's kind of related i think. I'm also using openwnn for japanese input. looks pretty good. once i'll get used to type on a screen however, what is bothering me, is the qwerty layout. is there anyway to switch the z and y keys? also being able to write ä ü ö would be a nice...
Hello, There are at least 3 Japanese keyborads for Android" Open Wnn Open Wnn Plus and Simeji I personally like the fist one most - because it has the easiest method to input emoji. ä ü ö can also be input via special chars table.
Alternative Input Method for Hardware Keyboard?
I bought the hardware keyboard, and I actually really like it. The problem is, I need to use unsupported languages. English works fine, but there's no option for Japanese or Mongolian, both of which I use on a daily basis. (I have enabled both languages in the Samsung keyboard, but they just don't work with the hardware keyboard, for whatever reason.) I'm wondering if anyone has found a way to allow it to switch to a non-Samsung keyboard when the keyboard is attached. Or any other ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Geeks Empire said: so what s the point of this? thr is just english alphabet on keyboard! Click to expand... Click to collapse Typing Japanese on a qwerty keyboard is actually very common. Even Samsung's Japanese IME has QWERTY input-type. You just type the English letter equivalent of the Japanese character. Oddly, the hardware keyboard does work for Chinese and Korean with Samsung's software, just not Japanese. Mongolian, yes, it could be said that you can't see what you're typing, but if you're used to a Mongolian keyboard, you will generally know where the letters are. If I were to use a bluetooth or USB keyboard, I could input these languages, so I thought the same and bought the samsung keyboard.
Is it nice to type on and does it make it any easier to type? I'm waiting and hoping that I will be able to see this case someday in the Samsung experience section in best buy so I can see how it feels. You're the first one here that I've seen mention actually having one in their possession! Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk
