Best MSN setup? - G1 Apps and Games

Hi
I've been trying to get a good msn setup, and I'm not from the US so I can't use the built in stuff. I use auto reconnect (and I'm addicted to it, I'm on 8 different networks) on my main computer, so any client that requires me to be online at only one point is uninteresting.
Right now I got a jabber server setup, that I connect to with jabiru. That way I can be connected both on the computer and on the cellphone. It works decently, although the android client is less reliable than I'd like.
I've know that you can use a jabber server to connect to gtalk and get all your contacts in gtalk, has anyone gotten this to work reliably? I've tried setting up my own server, and that worked fine, I can "register" my msn through my gtalk account, it just never shows up and does anything after that point.
Or are there any good msn clients/proxy solutions that'll allow me to be connected from two places at once? I've heard that newer msn's protocol versions allow it, however I don't use windows and I haven't in years, so I'm not on the latest protocol.

MSN connection problems

Hello,
I'm using an Alpine with all the ROMs and whatnot as they came in the box (aside from the camera program, which I replaced with one from another device) to connect to one of my university wireless LANs and go on MSN. I connect to the network just fine, websites work normally.
However, when I start up MSN it just stays on the connecting phase.
I know that the MSN port isn't blocked by the university because my friends can get on it just fine with their laptops.
I'm not sure what other details to include, so if I've missed anything out don't hesitate to let me know. Does anyone know a solution to my problem?
Thanks

AT&T 8925/Tilt will have Blackberry Connect

Credit Paul at Mocaco for finding this on the HTC America web site.

I've never used a Blackberry before. Is there an advantage to using this instead of the usual Windows Mobile methods for email? Would this allow me to have push email if my company doesn't have an exchange server?

At least the name, AT&T Tilt, is now 100% confirmed!!!
Gr8 to see that my next phone also supports Blackberry Connect. I am using it on my Wizard for some months and id rather not live without it.
Basically BBC has similar functionality as WM Push-email. BBC is of most use when your company has chosen for Blackberry instead of MS Exchange push technology.
Im wondering what the advantages of BBC 4 are as compared to the old version 2 (afaik there is no BBC version 3)
I'd be interested in hearing if people have an opinion of a BB server vs. Goodlink on this device. My company has both. Thanks
BB Connect vs GoodLink on Kaiser

I am using GoodLink on my kaiser and it is HORRIBLE!! For the past few ROMs, GoodLink has all but crippled my device when i am composing or replying-to a message. It is real jerky when typing and sometimes the device briefly locks up.
I have been told that Version 5 of GoodLink works better on WM6 & this device but I can't get my hands on it because it has not been certified in our production environment. (The lab guys use Exchange Push and i am trying to get my mailbox moved there.)
I am about to pull down BB Connect and give it a go until I can get on the Exchange Push servers. The drawback to BB Connect is that only Mail & Calendar are sync'd wirelessly. Notes, Contacts, Tasks have to be sync'd manually though the BB Desktop Mgr.
im waititng for my kaiser. I have been a longtime user of Goodlink on Palm treos- i think Goodlink is significantly better than any other mail app out there. I contacted Good regarding support for WM6 and Kaiser. they said that Good 5 supports WM6 but the kaiser is not listed as a supported device (yet?).
After my experiences of Good on a WM Treo750 (disasterous) i will stick with the WM mail / contacts apps for now.
Q for the person who put good on his / her kaiser: did contacts searching etc still work properly?
BB4 syncs contacts tasks 7 notes
Hello I would be interesyed in hearing if the BB connect version from for the tilt works on the HTC branded kaiser.
I have headr that with blackberry connect 4 you can now sync email, calendar, contacts, and tasks wirelessly AND use the MDS service even for the pocket explorer, google maps, etc.
Since I couldn't get bbc to work on my universal, if this works on the kaiser I will give it a go... I certainly would drop my 8800 blackberry for the kaiser.
thanks
Vinny
I have now installed Good on the Kaiser and it worked perfectly. Exactly like on the Hermes. We are running v4.9.3.21_EN

One of the nices things about BB 4 is that now you can connect to the internet through the MDS service, without having to disconnect from the blackberry connection to go to your ISP connection. It also supports wireless activation as well as better security policies among other things.
Ha one of the lucky kaiser owners actually tested this? I would like to know if this will also work on the HTC branded Kaiser or just on the AT&T Tilt.
thanks!!

Can someone educate me on the difference between Blackberry Enterprise Service and Activesync? Why would one choose the BES over Activesync. I believe they both are push email services with syncing of calendar, contacts, and notes as well. What are the benefits or are they exactly the same except for personal preferences?
I have just installed it on the HTC TyTN II. I am using FIDO in Canada which uses BB Connect and it works very well.
Thanks,
my company uses Good and a BB server. I got BBC to install on the Tytn II but I switched back to Good within a few days. BBC on a Pocket PC is not great. It slows the device down terribly. Also Good synched much faster. The attachment handling is bad and very limiting. I think Good 5.0 due out this month should be even better. Just my 2 cents.
Thx a lot it works fine in T-Mob Hungary with Tytn II. saved my new tool you did!
Hello I've installed the BB Connect software and got a pin, I also get connection to the network and a IP Address, but whenever I try to activate i get errors, if I do it via USB I get a success message but my BBC destop says PIN unknown, the I tried to do a wireless activation ang got a an error saying that I should contact my administrator.
Can this have something to do with the Enterprise server? supposedly my company doesn't support BBC devices, is there a way they can know this is not a BB?
I'm in MExico using Telcel carrier.
Thanks!!
Works for me too
Tytn 2 (from orange uk - on orange uk) running bbconnect 4.0.84 against my works bes
used the desktop config tool once installed (unconnected to pc - see below) and all fine
*note
If you install bbconnect when attached to your pc it hangs and doesn't install properly so you have to remove / reinstall
Installed BB Connect yesterday on an AT&T Tilt. Account is on the company BES server. Working well so far.

This sounds like the problem I had. It's related to the policies on your company's BES. I found the solution in the RIM knowledgebase:
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/sear...Public&dialogID=31123659&stateId=0 0 31125133
Unfortunately, it requires action by a BES admin. I hope you can sweet talk an admin into doing it.
Wifi?
Can any of you using this confirm if it works or not via wifi?? Can you sync with the bes or bis with out a data connection only using wifi???
Thanks.
Jeff
so bb connect includes bb messenger? i cant find it, maybe im not seeing it correctly..
There is no blackberry messenger client in blackberry connect at this time.

MSN messenger on AT&T Tilt

Newbie here
I have just gotten the AT&T Tilt.
It seems to be working fine overall, however when I am trying to connect to MSN (Live) Messenger through a WiFi connection, it apparently is not allowed, as it says "cannot connect via WiFi connection)...? Is this normal? Is there ANY way to get arround this? I just don't know if I'll keep the PDA plan forever and it would be easier for me to just connect via tha WiFi wherever available.
Thanks in advance.
(I did a search already and did not see any posts regarding this so I assumed no one has this issue...or cares...?

I have the Kaiser (very similar to the tilt) and Messenger works just fine against WiFi. What version do you have?
I was fairly certain the AT&T ROM for the Tilt removed Live messenger.. did you download it from thread on here or something?
The att ROM did remove windows live all together. You would need to install it. I have a feeling he is trying to use the OZIM program which doesn't use data, it uses text messaging. So when you are connected to Wifi it won't connect.
hmm...actually I didn't download/install anything onto the phone yet. It is an AT&T Tilt with no mods (yet)...and when i hit "instant messaging", it has the three messenger programs as icons (AOL, MSN or Live, and Yahoo).
If I do want to install it, where can I go to get it and would that installed version also be using TXTMessaging or data?

Gmail, IMAP problems.

Does anybody else use Gmail, or any other email with IMAP through their Kaiser and experience problems?
Probably 90% of my Send and Receives end up with the error "Cannot connect to the incoming mail server...". Despite the status at the bottom progressing from Connecting --> Logging on --> Receiving Headers --> Disconnecting. This happens whether connected via HSDPA, WiFi, or sharing my computer's connection via USB.
I'm pretty sure I have the settings right as like I said, sometimes all the folders will synchronise and emails download correctly. Gmail also works fine through Outlook on my computer.
I use Gmail with IMAP and don't have any problems. I use it with both Gmail and my own domain (using Google apps)
None
No problems here either.
no problem, but i use flexmail in order to use IMAP Idle.
I occasionally have the same problem with GMail. You will need to unlock the CAPTCHA. I will go for weeks without a problem, and then I'll have a few days when I have to do this 3-4 times a day.
First, close down your e-mail client. Then go to https://www.google.com/accounts/displayunlockcaptcha and complete all the fields.
Once you've done that, restart your e-mail client and it should work.
Hope this helps!
the problem might be that you are connected to your account from another place (PC, other PPC,...) at the same time. i think this could cause some problems with IMAP. make sure you are not connected to your account from elsewhere and then try with kaiser
I guess it just checks for new mails, and nothing else,I had same problem, it just used d/l new emails only. so if u go to gmail a/c and check d/l mail from so and so date, that might help.

That *shouldn't* happen as IMAP explicitly allows multiple connections, and actually makes allowances for this. I use Flexmail too which works fine, sorry I can't be more helpful
I've tried unlocking the Captcha, resetting the mail program. I'm now in the process of archiving my emails and reducing the size of the folders I synchronise. Hopefully it's as simple as the Kaiser struggling with message quantity.
Failing that, I'm going to trial Flexmail although I begrudge paying for a client when I've got a half decent (supposedly,) one pre-installed.

TD2 (or WM6?) as Home AND Work device?

I have just read a post in the Topaz (TD2) accessories forum asking after a dual SIM adapter. I too have carried multiple phone for years and one of my thoughts about getting this device was that I may be able to carry just one device with me.
Adding a second SIM is only one of my issues (and I guess I would need to unloack the phone), I also would like to be able to connect to 2 Exchange servers - Home and Work. Unfortunately, I don't think this can be done.
Maybe I was nieve when I got the TD2, but I at least wanted to be able to view both information from my Home and work on the single device. I run SBS 2003 with Exchange 2003 at home and we also use Exchange in work, but you can only connect to a single Exchange server.
It would be nice to have multiple profiles - one for work, one for home, each with their own settings, contacts, email etc etc.
This profiles ideally should run concurrently, so that you can flick backwards and forwards with no issue, and if someone tries to communicate with you when in the other profile, the phone will switch automatically. The phone should also switch profiles if it detects a change in presence - i.e. it connects to a work Wi-Fi or Home Wi-Fi.
I have no idea if this is possible, but the whole idea of one device for all I still think is years away based on my understanding of the device after just a few days use. This is a shame as the single device is not a "new" idea.
Can anyone suggest any possibilities? I have only just started looking at these types of device - my last PDA was a Palm 5 about 7/8 years ago! I am interested in at least expanding the device with applications.
But in fairness not many people run exchange at home! Why not access one of the exchange accounts via IMAP or POP?
However, lots of people wish to connect to more than one Exchange server that are not trusted just in a work enviroment. I know of several people with multiple jobs that would require just this ability. It's amazing how many people out there do want such a facility.
I believe IMAP will only sync email, not contact info, tasks calendar etc. Even then, IMAP only really works properly in Exchange 2007.
Still, I don't want my home contacts or calendar details on my work account, and vice versa. This is the crux of my enquiry. A single device that is "mine" and can be used in a personal/work or multiple workplace environment, without encroaching on either.
