Radios/ROMS/IPL etc - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Hey im Sean and i have a G3 i-mate k-jam/HTC Wizard.
I live in New Zealand and one of our networks (telecom) are releasing a new network on the 13th of may.
The problem is its WCMDA(850mhz) and not GSM which means my phone wont work on the network correct? Is there anyway of "upgrading" or "flashing" firmware or a rom that supports this band? or is there hardware i can purchase that could make the phone support the band?
Thanks
Sean (Mysticnz)

Our Wizard support the following:
Cellular Networks: GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900
Cellular-Data Links: CSD, GPRS, EDGE
So you are right, it will not work at WCMDA(850mhz).
There is no way to change the network. It have to do with harware not software.

blue angel GSM-850 :s

Hi!
my friend has got a Blue angel, but its american, and said it only support gsm 850 networks is it possible to renew radio program or something like this on the machine, to work with GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900 (hungarian) phone networks?
thx if u help
As far as i know, BA is quad-band and supports all four networks you just mentioned.
Only one thing: in my opinion, BA has a bug in radio regarding GSM 850, so usually when there is GSM 850 and GSM 900/1800 on the same area it has a problem and looses signal.
Anyway, if using WM2003SE you can install a band selection application.

3G in the USA

Has any been able to get 3G to work in the USA yet?
thank you,
jdm
I would say that it is imminent that the US version of the S730 will be released soon. AT&T or T-Mobile may pick it up (T-Mobile's 3G network in NYC just went live, but there are no phones). If so, I would suspect that some of these crafty folks (like Alcaline) would be able to extract the radio ROM, and make it available for the S730 that we all have (the european version).
But, here's the most important part... It all depends on whether or not the European version of the S730 has the radio chipsets that will support 3G on the frequencies that are 3G in the US. There is no known answer "available" to this, so it can only be discovered by testing.
The current S730 uses the 2100 band for 3G speeds and ATT is deploying 3g on 1900 and 850 I believe and they sell a decent ammount of 3g phones. T-Mobile is working on setting one up on the 1700/2100 band but I dont care for T-Mobile.
I have watched my phone at times flip into 3G mode for a few minutes then revert back to Edge, its trying but cant work properly without the right frequencies.
Check out the chipset datasheet. Bottom of page three explains the specific radio chipset combos and their support for different freqs.
I suppose, to save on manufacturing costs, they could have used the single chipset that supports 3G on all freqs (RTR 6285), but I believe this is unlikely due to the difference in model number that was submitted to the FCC (European version: WING220, US version: WING200).
Who knows though.
3G in US
Hermes models had different model #'s HERM100, HERM200 and had the same radios, in some cases minor difference such as case style, i.e removal of video calling camera etc. With any luck we have the RFR6500 + RTR6275 Combo, or as you mentioned the RTR6285 and just not a radio rom that allows 1900+850 3G. I was looking on the FCC site and they have some interesting screen shots, one of which shows one(s730) with what appears to be the front camera covered up and another which shows a radio rom(R 0.27.03.05B), one that, to do the tests would likely need to support 1900+850. Check Page 250 / 11 in the PDF. However, also in the test is the lack of any mention of 2100 Mhz test, which would suggest that either the US 3G Radio won't support 2100Mhz or that it indeed has different hardware that won't support 2100Mhz. At any rate it would be interesting to know if anyone has tried to flash one of the pre-prod roms for the wing 200 onto the wing220 and see if they are able to connect up to 1900+850 3G.

I suppose only time will tell.
Wow... nice investigative work. Very interesting. I'll start hunting around for the ROM.
[edit]
Searched google and, my favorite, napalm with no luck. I wonder if we can lure an FCC testing engineer into the XDA-dev realm. muahahaha
I was searching some of the other posts, and it appears that most of the pre-prod radio rom testing had been focused on GPS functionality. Has anyone been able to throw on any of the pre-prod radios with an ATT SIM and tested to see if it can connect to WCDMA -> US Band (1900+850) ??
I have no possibility to check the 3G in the USA from my location in Norway.
But just to get this clear, because I have changed my Radio more often then most people change their underweare.
Is everybody able to select WCDMA and then US Band in the settings?
I dont know if this is selectable on all devices or if this is made available after my radio flahings.
I believe all S730's have the following options available.
Network Type:
Auto
GSM
WCDMA
Band Type:
Auto
US Band
Euro Band
Japan Band
For it to actually be able to operate on all of these frequencies I believe it would need to use the the RTR6285 chipset as the other 2 combos would not support all of the different frequencies combinations.
US Band -> GSM 850+1900 / UMTS 850+1900 (ATT)
Euro Band -> GSM 900+1800 / UMTS 2100
Japan Band -> UMTS 2100+800 (not positive on this one)
If I change band to from Auto -> WCDMA I do not get an error but no 3G Icon and all calls fail. If I then go and change to US Band while having WCDMA selected it indicates that it cannot change to that GSM/UMTS Band. Also interesting, If I stay on WCDMA and select Euro Band, no error, but of course all calls fail. I then tried to change to Japan Band, no error and no phone calls. Finally I am still on WCDMA and I switch to US Band and I get the error that indicates I cannot change to that band. So, I would be interested to know Alcaline if you see the same behavior on some of the other radios you have been trying to see they allow the switch to WCDMA / US Band combo.
Thanks
Can anyone else confirm this behavior on any of the other Radios out there?

I have the ability to tell my phone I am in the states, but it does nothing (default settings though)
Was the US version (WING200) of this phone ever released? Or has anyone gotten the EU version to work on any US 3G networks? Wondering about T-Mobile...

Cant get 3G only symbol is E

I bought my HTC Diamond on UK. I updated the ROM to the RUU_Diamond_HTC_HK_WWE_1.93.831.1 this was supposed to make my phone QuadBand. It does work in USA (Boston) where I live. But I have never seen my phone doing 3G and speed test top was around the 1xx kbps.
Any Ideas?
PS. I am on the ATT network
Are you sure you have 3G coverage in Boston? Do you have a USIM-card (which I was told to be required for UMTS stuff)?
3G speed
I did look at the ATT coverage map and it said that I do have coverage.
How do I know what type of SIM I have? The SIM does have the 3G logo on it.
Are you sure your phone has the bands?
Check the Band setting, Settings->Phone->Band,
in the dropdown box for "Select your GSM/UMTS band", my US 3G ATT phone shows the following options:
Auto
UMTS(850+1900)+GSM(850+1900)
(oddly enough, the settings have to be on Auto for the phone to work..)
When I bought my diamond, I was curious about my sim too, so I took it into the ATT store and asked if it was the "latest 3G sim" and he said yes. Mine is half white (top) & half Blue (bottom), with a orange 3G fireball in the topright corner.
If yours matches all that, then take it to the ATT store and see if you get 3G in the store
Also..if you have doubts, I've had multiple Sales reps in the store tell me I can get a new Sim for free at any time, just need to ask.
3G
I do have that SIM half blue half white with the 3G fireball logo.
On my select network I have
Auto
GSM
WCDMA
on the GSM/UMTS band I have
Auto
UMTS(900+2100)+GSM(900+1800)
UMTS(850+1900)+GSM(850+1900)
UMTS(800+2100)
UMTS(850+2100)+GSM(900+1800)
UMTS(850)+GSM(900+1800)
UMTS(1700)

What ROM do you have?
RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_1.93.401.2
RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_1.93.401.2
Does this ROM supports USA 3G????
Sorry for my English
You have the European version and have only HSDPA 2100 / 900 (3G) and probably ATT works in HSDPA 850 / 1900, if this is the problem, sorry 3G is impossible for you, because is a hard problem, not a soft problem, search in this web there are many post about this. The European is quad band in GSM but not in HSDPA (3G)
CArlos
How about if I use another ROM
If I use another ROM ? would I be able to do 3G?
No I think it's impossible since it's different hardware I believe.
I think the one you have from UK, it only contained HSPA 2100 and US /Canada is using HSPA 850/1900, that's why you don't have the 3G signal.
Quad band only for voice and EDGE.

is there any conection betwen 3G and front camera....
i think i have an Eropean model from UK Vodafon which has the front camera... but i am not sure about 3G !

[Q] Is Diamond Have HSPA+??

Hello,
Did our diamond have or is compatible with hspa+ or hspa or it have HSDPA (3GPP)?
In my country i can have free internet on SIM card from Aero2 provider but the device have to be:
HSPA+ (category 10) 900MHz compatible...
Don't wanna buy modem but use my diamond as i have now SGS so i use diamond very relely... Is there any chance that will work with this network?
Best Regards!

Diamond works as a modem for Internet Aero2. What truth does not display the network name and does not have coverage, though not connected to the network. Once connected to your computer, you can use the Internet.

[Q] How to get AT&T 3G, 4G or LTE on Galaxy Note

Please help.
I bought and used a Korean version of Galaxy Note (LTE with DMB) on SKT network in Korea for a while. I liked it so much that I decided to use back home (USA) on my ATT 3G unlimited plan I keep for iPhone 3GS.
With ATT (a new micros sim) card, voice worked fine. But the internet speed is only 44 kbps with 'G' sign on the top notification area. I tried a lot of APN settings, reboots and hours of tech support form both ATT and SKT in Korea. No success so far.
SKT tech support said the phone carries neither country lock nor carrier lock, which seems to be true considering I can use voice on ATT without any problem. They insisted that I need to talk to ATT.
Using 'SGS Secrete Code' I tried to replace LTE B5 band originally set by SKT (?) with other LTE or WCDMA in the 'band selection', it won't allow it. Only 'Automatic' and 'GSM All' are possible to select.
My Phone info:
PDA : E160S.EK25.0152
PHONE : E160S.EK24.1917.ST
MOVINAND : EK25
BUILD : Fri Nov 25 01:58:03 KST 2011
I wonder if the hardware itself has limitation or it can be solved by some kind of setting or software approach. Please help.
My phone from Korea, SK Telecom, has the following spec.
Cellular+Phone
Cellular-Networks: GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS1900, UMTS2100
Cellular-Data-Links: GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA+
Secondary:Cellular;Phone
Dual-Cellular+Network;Operation: Parallel operation

Hi there.
I have the same phone. I have siwtched it to FA09 ROM, but I cannot switch on LTE mode as well.
Which SGS Secrete Code did you key in? and as far as i know, the LTE band in AT&T is different (not 2600Mhz)
I think you have to flash another modem to be able to switch frequency
I tried flashing the K model modem - but always giving fault through CWM
