hey guys,
i have an htc touch pro, my service provider is telus (canada) and im having some issues with my pro. if anyone can help that would be appreciated!
1) ive tried many different builds of opera, installed different types of flash and flashlite and still cant get any to work.
2) is there any way to store/backup contacts onto my computer, ive had three of these phones due to issues, and everytime i have to punch in a lot of numbers
3) gps, ive tried using the google maps, and google maps street view, and even a tom tom thing, but none of them work, i just get a map, that shows im in San Fransisco cuz it cant pick up any satellites
4) this is my biggest frustration... im constantly soft reseting the phone due to it freezing and doing whatever it feels like other than what i want. it takes me about 4 years to make a call sometimes, because its jumping around from screen to screen from 5 mins ago when i pressed a button
5) lastly, thinking about switching to a samsung omnia or a blackberry storm.. any suggestions or can someone helkp me with my pro!?
We need some more info from you! Are you using a custom ROM or stock ROM? What do you have installed that did not come with it (other than the Opera stuff)? Do you have a data plan?
stock rom that came installed... im so new to these type of phones i dont even know what rom it is... sorry
i have an unlimited data, texting, email plan
other than the opera stuff, not much a few games from here, some minor .cabs like the glass clock and what not
sounds like your phone is a dud. try to get a replacement. There may be a data block on your account, and try to see if your data plan allows wap or full html. With rogers the unlimited data / messaging bundle does not allow for browsing on a proper phone, just crappy wap
With regard to your backup request, if you don't want to use outlook, google sync work well to sync your contacts and calandar to google's services.
http://www.google.com/mobile/default/sync.html
backup
you can always use PimBackup to store contacts/ messages etc
thanks for the advice so far!
i ordered a replacement phone, telus said its full html browsing... and it seems to be, i just can't get any flash sites/videos to work
and thanks i got those backup programs and backed up my phone
do i have to unlock my gps or something?

SMS bad encoding
I get sms bad encoding every time i get a text
this and the camera and browser sd card not found error
are the only problems keeping me from running
this latest version as a daily driver any help
is appreciated.
Sorry bout my english im typing this on my work
break on my touch
If you get an incoming call while online via Togga (with Sprint, if it matters), will the call always and invariably go to voicemail, or will it sometimes/always ask whether you want to terminate the data connection and take the call (the way WM6/6.1 does)?
Likewise, if you get a text message while running Android, is that message going to be forever unknown to Windows Mobile? Or is there a window of time where the message is retained on Sprint's server, and if you boot WM during that window it will see the message and fetch a copy for itself?

You're using the most recent files from DZO's site? What version radio firmware is your phone using?

Android knows when you are in a voice call and suspends the data connection. Also, I've never had an issue receiving a phone call when connected to the ppp internet connection. It's pretty seamless, at least for me on my touch.
You're text messages get routed to whatever OS it is running. If my phone dies, I plug it in start up winmo and it i will receive all the text messages and store them in its own database. Once I boot android it will receive any messages the radio receives and store them in its database. So text messages will never go across OS'es ever as they are considered received after any one OS receives it. Hope that helps.
Alltel
Anyone know of the Alltel Username and Password?? Thanks
Hello,
what,s that mean:"wizard login:" it appered when I was installing Android
and then it just stop there.Could anybody tell me what elements I need ?
Or give me a full pack Please!!!!!!!Thank you !!!!!!!!
Sorry for my poor English
Landon I also have Alltel use (your number)@alltelmobile and leave the password blank. ext I have been using the latest files from dzo I probably had the togga connected at the time when i was getting texts, but it never seemed to happen on ealier builds when connected via PIE. Also as some suggested it is not carrier specific this happens on GSM AT&T and CDMA Sprint and probably my own Alltel.
Battery
I asked this in the other forum but I'm asking again.
Is it ok to leave the phone on the charger overnight while running android.
AdamWill said yes but it gets hot and he was on a titan.
htc tech support said it's probably not a good idea because the charger circuit is software controlled.
So does anyone leave their phone overnight and what results have you seen.

I tried the afore mentioned username and pass and no success, anyway I can get the script line? Or am I doing something wrong?

I've left my touch on the charger overnight a number of times and it seems to be fine.
Authentication for Sprint
Just loaded this onto my Sprint Touch and it works great (after fooling with a bad SD card). My only other stumbling block was getting logged into the data network. Turns out that I couldn't leave the username null -- in default.txt I had to specify
set cmdline "[email protected]"
Replace "3525551212" with your cell phone# (starting w/ area code). I'm in the US.

I am trying to install two apk's, IOfilemanager and VideoPlayer.apk...
I put both file in the root of my SD card in a file named AndroidApps
I have the latest vogue-android release, and my sound works so I know I dont have a problem with my radio
I tried putting the file both in the root of sd card, and the phone's memory, but it keeps on showing the glowing android, doing around 3 blinks then restarting, and its a never ending cycle...
I do not have a data connection so I cannot download it via browser...
EDIT: I replaced the files and it worked, mightve been corrupted...
Does anyone know how to get your contacts to work? Thanks

what do you mean by work because if you mean that there are no contacts when you boot Android then that is normal because android has no access to the phones memory only the SD Card you can use a few different programs to tranver the contact from WM to Android the best is Funambol.com it has a an app for both wm and Android to sync them via its website and its very easy to use just check out this link for a how to http://www.myhtcphone.com/import-contacts
There's a couple of things I'm still trying to figure out about this whole android thing. My apologies if these questions have already been asked, I could not find them.
1) Why doesn't the "Edit Sync Groups" button do anything? All my contacts are in gmail so I'd like to sync there. I'd also like to sync my google calendar.
2) The screen calibration is a bit off -- how do I re-calibrate?
3) I thought Android had an online app store (think it was called the "Marketplace") --- is this available on the vogue or no? What is the best way to install apps if no.
I apologize in advanced for what are probably ignorant questions.
Thanks!

1) this is more of an issues with Google because the Vogue is a port and Google has not opened all parts of the Android OS, or at least that is how i understand it if i am wrong someone please give a more information
2) The screen calibration is kind of a work in progress but there is a way to Calibrate
dzo said:
I've just updated the release on my site.
Screen calibration should work again, press the cam button to display the onscreen kbd, then while pressing the end call button tap opposite corners of the screen.

3) Marketplace is not available for the Vogue port because it is a closed system the best way to get apps is to down load the apk to you desktop and move them onto the phone through wm for more info check out this link

Thanks so much for answering those questions. Definitely helps me out. Its really unfortunate that the google syncing doesn't work... all my data is on there :[
At the present time, if I'm booted into Android, and the files needed to boot Android are on the storage card, is there any good way to get an .apk file built by Netbeans (using Undroid) onto my Vogue to test/play with WITHOUT booting back into WM6.1 first? As far as I can tell, Bluetooth isn't implemented, nor is mounting Android's filesystems as USB drives on a tethered PC... and I'm taking for granted that everything will go down in flames if I remove the storage card with Android running ;-)
If I did something slightly Rube-Goldberg-esque, like run a FTP server on my desktop PC with my router redirecting the port to it, then launched a FTP client on the phone to connect to it over the internet and download the .apk file into the "Android Programs" directory on the storage card... would it do any good? Or do .apk files in the folder ONLY autodeploy if they're physically present in that folder when Android itself boots up from WM6.1?
Similarly, if I boot with a .apk file in the directory, launch it and play with it, reboot into WM6.1, rebuild the .apk file, copy it to the storage card's Android Programs subdirectory, relaunch Android, and try IT... then repeat a few dozen or hundred times over the span of a few weeks... will each new version leave crud and residue in Android's equivalent of the registry (assuming it HAS one)? Or will everything related to the previous .apk file be cleanly purged? God forbid, does Android not actually deploy apps AT ALL, and just run them "where they lie" directly from their .apk file?
So far, I'm on chapter 6 of the "Busy Coder's Guide to Android Programming" (v2.0), but I haven't been brave enough yet to try running anything on my real phone since at this point I still have no real idea what's happening "behind the scenes" when Android (or DZO's bootloader?) finds .apk files in the directory on the storage card.
Question:1
I put meebo on my phone, IM. Will this cost data, how will this work?
Question:2
my plan covers unlimited webbrowsing, so on when I go on internet explorer it doesn't charge me, will surfing the web on android cost money?

It's the same when you're running Android. You can still browse, IM, yatta yatta, all under your plan.

Can anyone recommend an application to securely store data like bank details, login data etc? Something similar to ewallet or handysafe

There are several in the market. Try a market search.
Thanks, already tried that, but it seems the few that are on the market don't sync the data with your pc, and my reference to ewallet and handysafe is mainly to get a software that can sync, otherwise all the data is lost if the phone is stolen or doesn't work anymore, or even if the software has a glitch, seeing that most are new/free applications.
It's out from a few days SPLASHID that can now sync.
Watch out the site and the forum.
I writed to ewallet team to know if they will come out with an application for Android.
They told me that, at the time, they will not make any application.
thanks, checked it out, looks like it's still in early stages, as it only has 2.5 stars out of 5, with some people reporting sync doesn't work with cupcake, and it costs $10, so will wait a bit longer until sync is ok
They just made a new version (4.6) with the sync repair... now it work's.
I sync correctly with my desktop now...
Honestly I prefer ewallet... but if they are not interested at android...
I'm waiting even to see www.biowallet.net (if it will never come out)...
thanks, will go for it then
If I put Android onto a Vogue under Verizon am I forced to have a Data Plan? And will it work properly like the calendar and other stuff that is set up to talk to google?
You don't have to, but it obviously works better if you do. You'll have to pay for data each time you want to sync your mail, calendar, etc.

Yes, though your experience will be limited.... as it would be with windows.

Yes during first boot you can choose not to set up a google account and to turn off background data. There used to be a way to turn it off with the default.txt file, but I'm not sure how you do that now, something with a system file in the androidinstall.tar file... I used to run Android with my data blocked but somehow it still racked up a $300 bill, which I didn't have to pay because it was supposed to be blocked. Now I have full data and its a good thing because you really need it to fully experience why Android is so good.
It's for my friend's phone and they are on a family plan that won't be getting a Data Plan ever and they are using WM without a Data Plan now. They don't like not getting MMS though.
How to disable data:
If running from nand: most ROMs should include a program called "modem". open that right after boot and click disconnect. that will keep the data off until you reboot again.
if running from Haret: in default.txt, add ppp.nostart=1 in the 2nd to last line (between the " ") and this will boot with the data connection already turned off. "modem" can be used to turn it back on from within android if needed.
I don't have a data plan, and even though windows mobile does so much more without data, I still feel that Android is the better choice for me. I can still get apps (though most of them are warez which I shouldn't speak of ) and do all the basic things you usually do with phones. What I really like about Android over Windows Mobile is that you don't have to always close the apps you use, the UI is much cleaner, and the keyboards that you can use.
The thing I like most about Android is the keyboards. I especially like the HTC IME because it's pretty much the same as the keyboard on my iPod touch, but has tactile feedback (it vibrates when you touch it). The Swype keyboard is pretty nice to have too.
This is just my preference, because I am a heavy texter and the keyboards that android has fit my needs better than the crammed keyboards that windows mobile has.
I'm retiring a 32gb Verizon G2. The cell radio stopped working properly, and the dead pixel bar problem arose.
It will never again be used as a cell-phone or for texting.
It's rooted running xdabbeb's last rom, so it has the really nice XCam.
Primary goal: Use it as a camera or video-camera. Strip everything off of it that I don't need. Disable phone radio and other battery-consuming functions.
Secondary goals: use a GPS app, maybe use it as a web-capable browser via wifi, maybe use it for occasional g-mail check, maybe use it for a few other handy apps???
I have no experience with this kind of thing. I want to save a failed but still-nifty electronic device (G2) for various functions other than "phone". I don't know what is possible vs what is not.
I've cancelled the service with Verizon.
My questions:
1 - How to disable "phone functions" to save battery.
2 - Assuming wifi is present, but the phone no longer is attached to any account, can i still use it to access web?
3 - Is gmail still possible via wifi?
4 - Can i still run my favorite GPS app?
5 - Can i still use google maps?
6 - If the goal is to be able to browse, email, use camera, use gps, use google maps, use 2 other favorite apps, and nothing else ever, what are some major items I can strip off the phone to trim it down?
I'm an old guy. email did not exist when i graduated college. So i need help with these things from time to time.
Thanks!

Looking for a new phone really like the Mi 11 ultra question I have is any phone I get off also used as my work phone need to run multiple Microsoft apps for work still wondering if this works be the right phone or of I should keep
I'm using the Microsoft Authenticator and Outlook for the office without any issues. What other Microsofst apps are you talking about? In SIM1 my private and SIM2 my company card.
Using it for my work related apps that are part of the Microsoft ecosystem and i have zero issues.
I was glad when I saw i could sync my corporate email ( based on office 365 exchange ) that requires additional safety checks .
Teams and Skype for business works perfectly.
I have a couple of authenticators that i use without issues ( VIP Symantec, google authenticators etc. ).
All the apps sync without issues, never missed anything as of now. Heck, even Gmail pushes the email on the now .
If you have any specific apps that you need let me know and I will see if I can test it out.
Cheers !
Same here I am using outlook for corporate email(365 exchange) and MS authenticator with no issues. Bonus the AOD screen also shows outlook notifications icon on it as well.
Thanks for the information really helpful mostly using Outlook and Excel from Microsoft I guess the only ones more I'm not completely sure of world be click mobile it's a routing app and service now but I think they should be okay
those work on mine, just push notifications are spotty on my tmo service in upstate ny. still haven't gotten one work slack blip and only get emails if i have the app open, but screen off. i dunno, i'll give this phone another week and if i can't figure it out it's going back to giztop and i'll just grab the 1+9pro from the tmo website
Thanks let me know how it works out that was the other phone I was looking at as well
oh, no opsgenie either....which i kinda need when i'm on call. my huawei mate 20 pro gets all those still luckily.

Make sure to have the AutoStart enabled and also disable battery optimizations.
Also i noticed something the first time i setup my phone.
It tends to "learn" the app behavior somehow.
I'm saying this because after installing all my apps sometimes notifications didn't came trough right away.
It took one or two days until everything worked flawlessly without me doing anything special other than adjusting the config/permissions for each app.
I saw this behavior by watching the battery app and looking what process was using it the most.
And of course i saw android system process that was running. This one stopped after two days or so and everything was smooth since then. So i'm guessing the MIUI optimization process and some other functions are running in the background at start setting things up.
Also note that i didn't disabled/removed via ADB any preinstalled Chinese applications ( only those that were possible to remove from within the xiaomi getapps application - uninstall section )
I just muted the ones i didn't care about and i'm happy with my battery life ( i'm monitoring it via the battery app built in and also accubattery pro where i can see exactly how much each app is consuming between charges )
So my advice is to set the applications properly and have a bit of patience
Cheers !
