on microsoft website itself.... www.windows7.com .. for example.. there are a lot of links.. there you just need to look for "download windows 7" and you will get the key before the download

That's not working.
for some reason, the site isn't serving up keys, or for that matter, it's not doing anything. After I select the language, and hit go (to download) it takes me to another page with a loading circle in the middle and doesn't load.
Something wrong with the servers?

Where did you find that? I need that!
I installed the TC today. It was a lot of frustrating work with a lot of errors.
(It needed drivers for my own external dvd player, It crashed form usb-stick, and corrupted my XP partition)
However,
Now, I have everything running rather smoothly.
There is one program I need that doesnot start, so I would realy like this XP mode I heard about.
thx in advance,
greetz,

xp mode?
I've got xp SP2 and sp3 listed in my compatibility modes, but not just xp alone. Is the download you're talking about separate from that?

I wil try it somtime next week.
grtz,
Pfeffa-rah
Tried it. It installs and then...... nothing.... no program group or icons and an almost empty xp-mode folder....
Thuroth's instructions don't apply because they seem to be for an older beta version.

Darn. I've managed to install Win7 RC version but I can't get any of the HTC drivers to work...
The VistaECDrvV1[1].0.1.10 says that " DPInst.exe does not execute on your current operating system".
What does THAT mean and why won't it work?!
If I rememember rightly from failing to install XP repeatedly, if that doesn't install then the other drivers just fail too? EG I've installed the WiFi driver but when I go to use it, it says there is no driver.
But apart from the fact I can't actually use Win7 yet, it looks pretty and seems to do things quite speedily
OK, so I have to learn to READ... All is installing swimmingly this time

Just wanted to say that Windows 7 on the Shift is fantastic!!!
Took me about 4-5 hours to get a basic install complete with all of the drivers, but it was time well-spent. All of the HTC drivers and features are supported including the fingerprint scanner, that HTC communications panel, etc.
Biggest headaches were getting the higher resolution display to work (had to turn aero off multiple times as driver installs kept re-enabling it) and my SD card giving me a BSOD. New drivers fixed that, too.
Follow the instructions in the Windows 7 thread (thanks everyone!) and stick with it. Windows 7 is worth a few hours of your time!

Welcome to the forums. Hopefully you'll see that Windows Mobile phones are useful and fun, especially when you flash and reflash. It gets kind of addicting. The TouchFlo is software that allows you to use your fingers to control the movement on you screen much like the multi-touch does for the iPhone. When you flash new software to your phone, you are changing the operating system of the phone (in your case the Wing), but it's nothing major (say like upgrading XP to Vista) because the WIng has Windows Mobile 6 on it already. All you're doing is adding functionality to it.
Please be careful when flashing though. Read and Follow all the instructions carefully before you attempt anything. Also if you have questions I would advise you to search the forums before asking. Most of the time you won't be the first or only person to come across a problem, and the answer will most likely have been provided.
Good luck!
the proxy setting works?
Hi, I am pretty new to this PPC phone area and I managed to install the touchflo on my wing correctly yesterday. Very nice OS but there is only one thing I can not use the proxy I was using before to use T-mobile web to connect to the internet. Does someone know how to correct this issue? thanks...

Hi,
I also, notice that this rom as with other PDAVIET roms runs better with an 8MB page file. The touchflo opens and moves smoother when you swip the screen.
This is just my two cents.

Okay I have this installed on my diamond and have a few questions.
Im remoting onto a vista laptop, Im connecting okay.. however no matter what I set in the remote desktop mobile options, I cannot see any mapping for my handheld device to transfer files. Ive tried My Computer, Ive tried Network.. nothing. Why? Any advice?
Secondly, the pocketnow video demonstrating remote desktop mobile being run on the diamond in landscape mode. I see no option for this.. how can it be done?
Thirdly, if you run remote desktop mobile in full screen you seem to lose access to the disconnect button and SIP. Any suggestions?
The CAB file works great for me, but it's not possible to access the telephone's memory through the explorer on the remote machine, like described here: http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=news&id=5454
So it's not possible to get music from home for example... Does anyone know, why? Of course it's possible to put the requested files into a apache-folder and download it using opera, but thats not the best way.
I didn't see the message from "darthbane2k", but my questions are the same
I'm guessing the CAB file on the previous page is an older version with less features. Parhaps one from WM6, not WM6.1?
+1 for someone who would like the cab file for the latest-and-greatest Remote Desktop client for WM6.1
..am currently looking at two Diamonds (my now TLR2-based test unit and my 1.37.401.3-based stock production unit) and neither have it installed, however I do vaguely remember seeing it a while back on he test unit which originally was a HK import and thus old ROM. Guessing now removed (in some markets at least)?
Cheers.
Nope.. I definately have the new version as the allow device mapping is in the options. Even when ticked, I still cannot see my mapped device when connecting to a remote computer (Vista home premium)
It works fine on my diamond, both within the LAN as well as per 3G. However is there a possibility to get keyboard to be able to enter things as well?

Yup, it's plain WM6, not 6.1.
WM6.1 RDP
It did not work for me either.
So I started a petition on this blog http://max.zamorsky.name/2008/11/04...bile-into-touch-diamond-and-all-current-roms/ to collect comments as a means to persuade HTC and Microsoft to include RDP in every ROM by default.
They seem to misunderstand who their lead-users are...
Please comment to help me make our lives easier.

Windows 7 Pre-Beta on the Shift?

Windows 7 Pre-Beta on EEE PC 1000H
Reading the above linked article, it seems to me that if all the Vista drivers for the Shift work with Windows 7, it might be the ideal replacement for Vista on the Shift.
The article mentions that on the EEE less than half the available RAM is consumed by the OS, which would be a massive improvement on Vista.
I was wondering if anyone here had access to the pre-Beta and was prepared to take the plunge and install it on their Shift. I'm sure I'll get a copy sooner or later via my Technet subscription, but since this is a pre-Beta, I'll probably have to wait for the first fully fledged beta copy.
Regards,
Dave

Hi Rob, if i am not wrong, you guys have an HTC shift. I’ll be grateful if someone could shed some shed light on whether HTC shift would support Windows 7 and will there be speed improvements by using Windows 7 on it instead of Vista?
It’s important for me to know at this stage because i need to decide whether to persist with HTC shift for long or not. I hate to part with the Shift as upto date it’s the best device with features which no other device has been able to replace till now … though their implementation is a bit floppy and Vista is a real resourse hog so far forcing me turn off aero all together and opt for basic ME, 97 like theme to make it work fine!
Sorry for the trouble but ur reply will be really helpful in giving the Shift a bright future!
Thanks in advance!

We reviewed the HTC Shift last year, but do not have one. During the keynote yesterday, Sinofsky demoed Windows 7 running on a netbook, so it looks promising. "

Windows 7 on shift
I'm downloading Windows 7 build 6801 now and will try to install it tonight.
Will post back later to let you know if the drivers work and the performance is better. I read an article somewhere on microsoft.com stating that in most cases Vista drivers will also work on windows 7. However, this was not the case on my desktop computer. The article also stated that windows 7 requires less ram than vista and will therefore run better on systems with only 1gb ram.
will look forward to your results eagerly ...
hi thanks for ur efforts ... i will eagerly look forward to ur results ...
and.... is it works? ;-)
i just tried to install it, but i get an error message, complaining about a missing install.wim.
i dont think thats supposed to be...so i have to keep at it and see what causes this. (make sure you burn the ISO using NERO.)
Ok, after a second try, Windows 7 is finally on my SHIFT.
wow, looks great. how is 7 running on the shift comparing with vista.
any more good news with 7 over vista? like, screen rotation? lol
once you played around with it a but more, let us know more about it! i'm sure we're all waiting to see if there are any good surprises.
wow .. plz post ur experience with windows 7 on shift

Hi plz post your experience regarding how responsive is shift after installing windows 7 ...
I can see from screen shots that approx 500mb memory is free and that looks good ...
Any change is startup time? do u feel windows 7 less taxing than vista as far as windows graphics load is concerned?
And did all the existing drivers & programs work?
Sorry for the long list ... but i am too excited at the proposition of Shift actually turning out to be a faster device with windows 7
UPDATE: Windows 7 runs really well...even for a Pre BETA...i havent tested the stability much yet, but I can safely say, its much better than
Vista.
Even beats my Ubuntu in speed.
However, there are some small problems I have to fix first.
If you want to install Win 7, make sure to enable all devices (WIFI, BT) in your existing Vista first. Otherwise you might have some trouble enabling them until we figure out Control Center.
Almost all drivers run well, some have to be forced by using VISTA RTM
compatibility mode. But they will install fine.
Exception is, the Intel VGA driver wont install. But the default driver is already very good and newer.
Also, the Control Center for the EC doesnt work. It installs, but the shagctrl.exe crashes upon start. I have to see what goes on with that.
About the touchscreen. It was a little tricky at first and I needed to reinstall Windows 7. But if you install the EC driver first, before any other
driver, you can get it to work. The touchscreen responds perfect and the default calibration is also perfect. (better and more accurate than Vista)
Windows 7 itself seems like a good approach to a new OS. Its very simple and speedy and features a new taskbar, I would call it Quickbar...it has some jumplists where you can pin programs and folders. Its ok, but maybe better on big screens. Nice are the icon previews of your stuff launched in the taskbar...i will see that i get some screenshots going.
Also new is Internet Explorer 8, featuring site suggestions according to your surf behaviour. It also checks your downloads for threads while downloading.
Windows Media Player is 12.
Finally, i get about 110min battery life with default power settings, Wifi and Bluetooth enabled.
Does anyone have the original HTC driver and application set?
(not the one from the website, the one which comes with the Shift)
I want to try the older Control Center, but I am too lazy to extract the install.wim...
I got about the same results as aquasesh. Drivers installed ok except control center and touch screen. Windows 7 feels faster than Vista.
Let me know if you fint a solution to the control center and touch screen issues

Touchscreen is fixed. Just install the Embedded Controller driver first, right after the installation. After that I installed fingerprint, chipset and
finally touchscreen.
I am about to test AVI performance. And after I will try to fix the Control Center.
Thanks mate
I really appreciate your work...
Thanks a ton for testing Windows 7 on Shift ...
Thanks a ton for testing Windows 7 on Shift ...
I am very eagerly following your feedback on the windows 7 experience as it was always my personal feeling that the culprit behind shift's slow response is vista ...
I will download windows 7 soon and will give it a try ...
Look forward to reading your's and other's experiences and refining my install when i take the plunge ...

Not yet, the main problem is that the tool to switch the resolution, relies on the control center to work.
So far, I have not been able to get this working and i havent found the problem either.
I want to try the shipping version of the control center, but i have to extract it from the recovery partition first...will do that in a couple of hours.
If this doesnt work, I will try a different approach and try to mix my own tool.
I also tested the AVI performance, but video plays slow as ass...so nothing changed here.

I didn't see issues with Leopard on Shift. Yes, I tried it out. The only issues I found were losing touch and syncing the system with Windows Mobile. Also I didn't like Leopard on smaller screen. I did this just to check that out, so got reverted back to Vista. I am eagerly waiting for RTM of Windows 7. BTW, I don't have issues with Vista. At home I have 3 computers that run on Vista (2 on Ultimate and 1 Business), 5 Computers that run Windows XP (various versions), one with Ubuntu, and 1 MacBook running on Leopard (10.5.6). I have issues with XP based systems when I installed BizTalk 2009 and SQL Server 2008, but I never faced any trouble installing them on Vista Ultimate. I don't have issues with VS2010 beta 1 installation on both XP and Vista. My primary home system runs on Vista Ultimate has variety of server softwares installed in addition to Visual Studio 2008 and 2010 and Eclipse Ganymede with Android SDK that I need. I also use it as my Live Mesh host.

Saiweb, Can You Expound?
You said that you got OS X working on the Shift; can you explain your method briefly? Were there really no problems other than losing touchscreen? How often did it go out? I'd appreciate it.
My friend putrawanz did installed mac leopard osx into his shift just to try it out sometime back , but he said it is very slow in responding , even when u pass the pointer through the dock , the icons that expanded and then contracted back to origin size was somewhat lagging / jerking in motion , so it can be installed but can't be used . unless we used the 2gb ram stick coming out dunno when , then maybe it can be a lot smoother

Which distro did you use to install OS X? I had issues with the GMA950 graphic card. The installation started in black and white (640x480) and I never got past the spinning wheel to start the installation...
It must work
I would think that it should run pretty well. I've seen the YouTube videos of it running on a Shift very choppy, but I've also seen a YouTube video of an u810 (which component-wise is pretty similar to the Shift), triple booting, one load of which was OS X. It looked like it ran fine; he didn't demonstrate everything though. I think when people first tried installing OS X on the Shift, it didn't support GMA 950, but then Apple released a MacMini that used the same chipset. That, or it just really depends on the method and .kexts.

I've also seem a youtube video but the one I've seen was definitely a remote desktop connection to a Mac and the guy said so on the comments. Go back there and check.
Positive that it was not remote desktop

It definitely was not remote desktop. He demonstrated booting each one, OS X, Windows, and ubuntu. Each time having to select the partition to boot from in what looked like chameleon or grub. I have my Dell Mini 9 triple booting and it has GMA950 the same way. Works flawlessly.

What I mean is the installation on the Shift that you said was choppy. I don't doubt it runs elsewhere.
I mean this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdx77Gi3vtA
Gotcha
Gotcha. Wonder if the recent news that Apple is discontinuing support for the Intel Atom will have any effect on the Stealy. I'm OK with just running 10.5, but I'd still like to hear about people's experience with it.

She knows. She knew. Basically, there is no video that shows OS X running on the Shift, just a video of someone using remote login to access a computer running OS X. There is, however a video of someone running OS X on a u810, which is pretty similar to the Shift. I'm thinking he used the same method as was used in the MyDellMini forums.
Atom supported again

ATOM processor again supported in new OSX build.
Have a ball with it people,

Windows XP on PDA =)

Hello i am new to posting on this site but a long time reader and i have a Xda mini S (wizard).
anyway
i have been looking around the internet because of a crazy idea in my mind.
The idea came to me yesterday after upgrading my rom to WM6.1 then to WM6.5
So am looking at WM6.5 and just am thinking wouldnt it be nice to have Windows Xp on my phone so can be like a portable laptop with calling and texting.
i saw some thing about it for a different pda i think
so was just wondering is it possible to upgrade the rom and install XP on a Xda Mini s.
Doesnt have to be like the Desktop version it can be a mini remake.
as long as its possible to flash it again afterwards if i change my mind about it.
Anyone have any ideas for me ?
An easy way to fix this is via citrix, or via vmware...
well you must be a retard to think xp run on wizard is no such thing runnning xp on a pda close thread please...
@HackWindows

Maybe you should think outside the box a little before emphatically saying something isn't possible. Heck, 60 years ago noone thought it possible to carry around a phone withoutwires, or have a computer smaller than the size of a room.
hello,
i wanna say i had win 98.
but.... you have to change resolution with nyditot cause it isn't vga.
and on mine the mouse doesn't work.
just se this lik earlyer said http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362344
.
so goodluck i know it works cause i had it myself.
but as i said no mouse and slow.
just try it is great to see
also watch youtube there are movies about it.
Well, it is impossible to run Windows XP natively, because the architecture of the wizard(or any htc smartphone) differs from the pc architecture.
However, there are 2 ways to "run" xp on your wizard:
1) With an x86 emulator like bochs or qemu; you don't want that because it's even slow on a normal pc, and you still don't have sufficient RAM to run xp.
2) Run xp on a normal pc and use VNC or RDP to control it remotely(so you need a fast internet connection). I believe there an rdp app called "Terminal Services client" on a default wm installation, so I'd go for that one.
If you want to run windows to play games on your pda, I'd advice to forget it, vnc and rdp are not designed for such tasks...
Well, I dig this idea. any one with the know how should be able to port Tablet PC OS into an .nbf file with all the right drivers an stripped of all unnecessary junk ( a minimalist version) . If not a complete os than lookalike may be. May be i am dreaming big but someone should be able to help. I see ppl trying to port Linux/ android on wizard than why not XP?
The Omap processor (which is an ARM processor) isn't powerful enough to Emulate a x86 processor with acceptable speeds and memory to run XP on a wizard (even if XP has been stripped etc..).
