Which is the best Sat Nav for PPCs? - Off-topic

Garmin, Tom Tom, Copilot, Route 66, Navigon, Destinator 7, NavnGo, MioMap?
Have I missed any?
Any to absolutely not get?

Vote for TomTom, not saying its the best but it works for me on my Trinity.

I'm a big fan of Route 66 and ease of usage...

Guys you forgot Igo !!!

I have used Copilot for years and have found it superb, haven't tried any other tbh.

What is the best GPS software for Driving Directions?

What is the best GPS software for general driving directions? I have been using Odyssey Mobile... had numerous problems getting my AT&T 8525 to work with an esternal receiver with BlueTooth... finally gave up and bought an AT&T Tilt at the full upgrade price ust fore the built-in GPS... very expensive but one of the best purchases i made ina long time...
Anyway my question is, I cannot even find a well written review of all the GPS software out there for PPC's specifically for driving directions, comparing the features of the application for all the biggest players; Odyssey Mobile, Tom Tom, iGuidance, etc...
Does anyone know of any such review and where I can get my hands on it? I feel as though I am just 'stuck' with the Odyssey Mobile because I don't know any better... have spent hours and hours looking for any reviews comparing them....

There are many you can try. Google Maps, Live Search with Speech input, and Yahoo Go all are free. Pick which one suits you. I use Wayfinder which is a pay but it has speech output for the directions as well as some other cool built in features. They all work with the internal GPS. I also use GPS test to prime my internal GPS when needed. Use google search or lurk around the kaiser newsgroups for info on GPS software.
Thanks but stil no reviews
Thanks for the information, but I still cannot find any reviews comparing them. I have looked allover the place. Note, you said this:
"I also use GPS test to prime my internal GPS when needed."
Why would this ever be needed and what does GPS Test do? I still would be eternally grateful if anyone could find a review comparing the major players out there (I heard that iGuidance has more POI's than TomTom in the US)...

Once again there are many threads with these items mentioned scattered all over the Kaiser and Kaiser Upgrade forums. Did you do an actual search on xda? GPS test is used, as I actually commented in a thread, to help make it easier to use GPS software programs such as Live Search, Google Maps, Tom Tom etc. It is another version of Quick GPS but it is better becuase it has more nuances to it. Did you do a search on Google for GPStest? It has a very nice website.
The information you seek are in the threads you just have to look for it and do your own comparisons. No one knows what is best for you but you.

The one which has reviews and was tested in USA is i-go, try this, I have the gpstuner software it is also a good software, but you need to do your own maping through google earth or google earth and recal. it.

First, I am about to receive CoPilot Live 7 in few hours that came out last week on Wednesday I believe. I will let you know of my personal experience with it. However, the best place for any GPS hardware, software, etc question would be to go to GPSPassion.com where they have everything you need from reading reviews to adding addons to your navigation software.
Hope it helps!

The Best GPS Software
Garmin Mobile XT is the best. It's just like the garmin interface on the one's you buy for your car. It's comes loaded on a 2gb micro sd card. I'm using a AT&T Tilt also. I paid the extra $25.00 for shipping so I had it within 3 days otherwise it might take up to 3 weeks to get.
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=11413
i-Go is pretty, i-Guidance is great for turn-by-turn with audio.
will check out the Garmin suggestion as well.
I still think Tom Tom is simple to use with quick response if you got it working. The only problem is the map, which I paid $250 for US and Canada CD from Tom Tom and it works great.
Google map or Live search is good and free.

Do you have to pay extra for their traffic updates?
Checked out some of the suggestions
So far Wayfinder 6 has the best upside. No sd card needed just set the cache and away you go. I am hoping they will allow the kaiser/Tilt to have the Wayfinder 7 update soon. I will take a look at I-Guidance tho. There is a 5 day trial for Wayfinder also.
Garmin ! Garmin is the best
Garmin Mobile uses old maps. I got rid of it and used iGuidance instead.
iGuidance maps incomplete too

I have the new iGuidance v4 - its maps are far from perfect - a major I-25 freeway exit here in Denver is not recognized even though construction was completed more than 1 year ago! I emailed the company regarding this, and they essentially said "wait for next year's updated maps".
I have Garmin GPS units which all all very nice.
On the Tilt, I'm using TelNav which is also nice. It doesn't need any large memory area for map storage where the Garmin software does.
Drawback is you need to be within cell range to get the data (i.e. map, locations, best prices on gas (yes! Something Garmin lacks.), traffic info, route style, 2D or 3D maps, contacts from phone, etc.). They offer three versions: personal, business, and tracking services.
It's a bit cheaper to get it online from them rather than AT&T which is monthly. Online from TeleNav they give you 12 months for price of 10 (or used to be). They have a 30 day trial, but I decided I needed it quicker.
I like iGuidance a lot. I have a stand-alone Garmin and like it as well. Both companies use NavTec maps and rely on their updates for current map data. I'm not pleased with Garmin's current PPC software and won't buy it or anyone's that is locked to a specific memory card, that's BS. So I'm sticking with iGuidance for now. It's very stable on the kaiser, calls can be answered while navigating just be sure and use a BT headset to avoid juggling hardware on the road.
You can get a TMC receiver for a one off cost. After that it's free traffic info.
GPS Reviews
another good source for comparisons of gps software and hardware is PDA Essentials forum. They carry a periodical PDA Essentials and GPS Advisor which there forum is based on. It's worth a try for details on GPS questions.
I started playing around with CoPilot Live 7 yesterday. One of the reasons I bought this software is the free traffic updates you can get if you have internet access (GPRS/EDGE/WIFI) which I do.

MQ Navigator?
Edit: nevermind, only for certain phones - not ppc

Navigation Software. Your Opinion.

I want to get a navigation program for my diamond.
Now i am confused which one to get.
I heard that tom tom is old/out dated and slower
heard nothing about Route 66
And heard a view other names.
Please share your experiance and opinion about the navigation software you used.
And why!
Thank you!
Personally, I really like Copilot Live 7.
It's easy enough to use, does what it says on the tin and has quite a nice interface. I really like it.
I've loaded and have been using Garmin XT Mobile and love it.
well i think this is sufficient enough ?

Working on Diamond ? MobileNavigator 6 Software European Edition für PDA

Hello !
I read now hundreds of postings but I did not find the proper Question. So Senior members please do not writing your obligate "SEARCH FORUM" Message - this seems so rude !
OK. I want to buy a complete legal Navi Software for my Touch Diamond.
TomTom 7 seems not to be legal.
Now I found the Navigon solution:
Can any body tell me if it is running well on the Touch Diamond ?
Thank you
Marcus
It works, but it is too slow IMO. I was a fan of Navigon since Navigon 4 (3 yrs ago), switched to iGO and wont go back to Navigon !
I dont know if it's because of the screen (VGA) but it takes ages to move the map, compute routes, etc. They seriously need to rewrite their software if they want to compete with iGO.

Why do you say TomTom 7 is not legal?
You can buy and license TomTom 7 just like any other piece of software. I'm guessing you're German or in Germany so TomTom 7 is probably a very good idea for you because the maps are excellent. I would also recommend Garmin Mobile XT as this also has excellent maps of Europe.
Cheers!
Good Morning
yes I am german.
So, the Navigon is not running well on the Diamond - what means too slow ?
Unusable. Is the hardware proper used - the gps internal device and the vga display ?
You tell me about different software but I searched the web and did not find working legal download possibilities for those programs.
TomTom:
I wrote to TomTom and they told me that they do not sell the TT7 right now.
If you take the program from another device it is not legal, because it is oem and bound to that device !
If some one can post links from webshops of other software vendors for navigation software it would be great
e.g. Nav n go
Best regards Marcus
@mkhattab
where can i buy it legally ?
thanks Marcus

I fully agree, Destinator is excellent ! (second only to IGO8).
I suggest Garmin mobile XT.
The problem is that you wont find that software to buy online for download anywhere
*mod Edit*
Do Not Post Warez, Nor Link To Warez!
.
Noam,
Are you using Destinator 6 or 7? In memory or internal storage? What the map size?
I've tried D7 on storage and it was so slow...

I'm using IGO 8 which I think is excellent. With a bit of tweaking it runs fairly smoothly on the Diamond. Prefer it to TomTom, though I've not tried TT7 at all.
iGo 8 and Sygic McGuider.
I'm very happy with TomTom Navigator, but I got interested in Destinator now that many recommends it
Ndrive for beeing the only one to have the Azores Islands.
Google maps mobile for having satellite imagery.
I use tomtom 6 but it drains my battery in 2 to 3 hrs
still using tomtom 5. works fine.
tomtom 6 for me
with the latest radio....you get a fix in less than 5 seconds from cold!
iGO 8 works perfectly here.
maybe some one puts a few pros / cons together
for singapore and west malaysia i would suggest Mapking 2007 or R12 cos of the free and freq updated maps by malsing, though there is a refresh issue if you use the cr**k if your set that have the version specially tuned for diamond thats should be find... please do not ask me where to get the tuned version as so far only those that bought the phone and comes with the phone has it.
I use mapking 2007, and its fine ....
actually, this software is totally free, if you download it from www.indowebster.com
Oh, I'm using it in Indonesia...

I NEED GPS software, but which one??

Yes, I know there are several threads out there asking which is best, prettiest or whatever, but, I have TomTom installed on my Tilt with a flashed rom, but everything I've read says that TomTom will not be issuing US maps with version 7 and later. And then I read that Garmin XT has caused a lot of problems on phones. IGO is expensive. So, what is a Tilt owner to do?!?
I personally use Tomtom7 and iGO8 (mainly iGO8 which works awesome with TTS). You're other choices are Google Maps, Windows Live, Garmin, and a few others.

His next question I'm sure is where did you get your v7 maps, or how did you get v7 maps...
and of course, we only want to know LEGAL ways to do so.
I personally own TomTom Navigator 6, and I love it. I've got maps 6.010, so I don't think I can use them on TomTom Navigator 7. They are up-to-date enough for my driving, but I wouldn't mind the ability to update/edit maps in 7, and the ability to change the 'car' would be fun too.
I like iGO8 too.
IGO8 for me too. I used to use Tomtom all the time but their maps were not the best. IGO8 maps etc. work much better for me.
google?
Google maps?
Navizon is good. If you want vocal turn by turn directions, Nav4All is free.
The problem with IGO 8 is it's huge. The maps for Europe are 1.5gb - which is about 1gb more than I can spare

I was using iGuidance on PDA Mio DigiWalker. But version 4 doesn't work on HTC TyTN So after some tests found OnCourse (based on iGo, but have better features). Hope iGuidance newer version will be much better so I can use it again on my TyTN.
Yesterday i installed TomTom and IGO8 and they both work brill they both have there advantages but the IGO does find the GPS a lot quicker if you do a good google you can find everything you need
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'll try the new ones, and see which one fits my needs the best.

How did you get the US map? Version 7 doesn't have US maps that you can buy, unless you live OUTSIDE of the US!
I use CoPilot 7 and have found it to be very good.
Since you're in the US, Street Atlas 2009 is on the cheap side but perfectly usable.

I have used both TomTom 7 and Garmen XT in my 8925 (Tilt). My choice..... the Garmin XT.
Tom Tom was fine but the maps are out of date unless you live in Europe. The US maps are still in 2006 and TT isnt sure they will be updated given the huge hacking of their TT7 by US naughty boys....
Ill put my Xt against any TT7, and I will win. The down side to the XT is there is no qwerty keyboard lettering which drives me nutz!

Ive been running my G-XT for awhile now without any issues what so ever. Me likie my XT. I also ran the TT7 but dumped it because of the poor outdated maps.
Expensive? $00.00 for my XT.... "The truth is out there."
I currently have installed and working with US maps:
Garmin XT 2009 V5.00.20wp
TomTom 7.910 (9185)
iGO8 8.0.049545 June 30 2008
Navigon 7.31 build 137
I am a GPS junkie! I like them all for different reasons.
Navigon is the most aesthitic looking program and Reality view is awesome.
iGO8 and its true TTS is great and a very user controlable interface.
Tom Tom is a great all around application and works well.
Garmin XT has a nice UI, easy to use and the ability to load smaller map files rather thatn the entire US.
Hopes this helps. You should find something you like. If you need anything let me know via PM or IM if you see me. Kevin

Two words: Bit Torrent. No, I won't tell you the search terms, or where to search. (I won't put it on my 4shared either).
I like Garmin Mobile XT. So far its better...........
