To be honest, the only two IM clients for the AT&T Fuze I've experienced so far is the one included with the stock firmware, and Slick. I prefer the stock firmware more. Does anyone have this app extracted? Or is there a better one they can recommend?

If you have a data plan (which you should if you have a Fuze), two free IM clients you can use are Palringo and BeeJive (right-click & Save Target as on those hyperlinks).
If you REALLY want that "OzIM" I think it is, I might have it floating around to post for you (actually, I have an AT&T ROM floating around I can yank it from). But I'd recommend looking into other solutions, personally (because doesn't the stock solution use SMS to deliver messages?).

I knew that people could message you if you binded your AIM/MSN account to your mobile phone. That's just not good enough to me, though, because I'd have to wait for someone to contact me in order for me to get a hold of them. If there's an SMS-based solution that can fetch your buddy list and act as an IM Client, sure! I'll go for it. I didn't think there was an SMS-Based solution other than binding your account. That would be good for me since I have unlimited texting enabled.
Thank you so much for your help so far. I really appreciate it .
OZim is weak in my opinion. It uses TEXT messages instead of the network traffic.
IM+ is the bomb. I spend a lot of time messaging and all of the other clients seem lackluster.
Give it a trial whirl.

I have to agree w/Thresher. SMS based IM solutions (to me, anyway) just waste my Text Message allowance. But if your data plan is limited, I guess that may be a better option for you. I have unlimited Data, personally, so I try to use as much data as humanly possible .

Oh? I had no idea AT&T had unlimited data plans. I have unlimited texting, but limited data. I wonder if I could have unlimited texting with unlimited data... hmmmm... Do you know how much does having an unlimited data plan cost? I could probably talk my mom into adding it into the family plan since my brother, sister, and I all have smartphones.

Looks like unlimited data is $30/month, and unlimited data + unlimited messaging is $50/month.
I agree IM+ is the best solution. My only issue with them right now is when will they add FaceBook IM as one of the options. I think they have it on the BlackBerry client, but haven't seen it on the WM client yet.

Palringo has FacebookIM if you haven't tried it.
Also, you can probably stick your SIM in a dumphone for a couple days, and either go to a corporate store or go into the OLAM and add the unlimited media net internet (I'm not sure about the price now but I pay $15 a month). After it kicks in just stick the SIM back into the Fuze and everything will work fine.

Ive been using IM+ for the last 3 yrs. Wouldnt trade it for any other IM client
Beejive is a close free alternative , but still nowhere near as clean. Well worth the few dollars ! ( plus you can transfer the same license to another devce when you but a new one and also IM+ has free upgrades to new software versions! )

Hey, nhvoltage, what is that picture of the HTC mini phone on your skinzone site?
Even if you do have unlimited texting I feel that OZim is more prone to problems as a result. For instance; I was having a problem with mine, uninstalled it but then began receiving tens and eventually hundreds of texts relating to OZim and logging into/out of a service. It was kind of nutty. Had to reinstall, relog in and make sure I was logged out officially before I uninstalled.
I'm not trying to bang on OZ, it actually did work pretty well when it was working.
I had problems with some services understanding who it should display as my friends. I had to put all of my IM contacts into a creatd MOBILE category in order for them to show.

as the title suggests, sure i read on t mob uk that the unlimited data dont include skyp and voip apps . . surely ths is horse sh!t?
anyone?
lr
They have 3 wnw, wnw plus, wnw max.
wnw has fup of 1gb and for web browsing only
wnw plus has fup of 3gb limit and allows im etc but not VOIP
wnw max is has 10gb and allows everything
MOJO
yeah that is what t-mobile quote as there packages but as far as the network is concerned, not matter what your doing, all it knows is that data is being transfered. They wouldn't know what you are actually doing, be it VOIP of using as a modem.
thx guys -coz obviously if it says unlimited data o the tin it goddam well better be!
one of the reasons i am splashing out for WnW+ is so I can skype - surely they cant tell the diff tween skype/msn voice data and regular data????
cheers
They could tell by traffic shapes (how they detect torrent traffic on regular wired networks) or by the ports used by Skype, MSN etc.
Funny thing is I have w&w from last year which gives me 40Mb of whatever I want a month.
I hate all this especially when abroad they mostly get real unlimited tariffs (like w&w max) but for a tenner or something.
I heard Orange had a reasonably priced unlimited but then you never know what the hidden limits are.
~Traffic Shapes!? jeez, you know the deep magiks!
Well I'd beinterested to hear what other t mob experiences are esp ones with WnWPlus...

Gotta be one of THE dumbest things I've ever read on a tech forum, even one devoted to mobile phones! Of COURSE they can tell what type of traffic is being sent! All different types of traffic use certain ports and certain protocols; and it's simple to differentiate which is which.
If VOIP is forbidden on standard WnW, all they need to is block the relevant ports and protocols it uses. If they haven't, then I'd say go for it; as they've not prevented you, but they CAN tell that you're using it.
I still have W'n'W 2GB plan from last year (before they split it into the plus and pro versions). I can't use IRC or streaming media (YouTube etc).
doesnt skype use port 80...
I got the cheapest wnw (£7.50 p/m) when I got my kaiser.
So far, I have used:
Web
Orb TV (Like slingbox)
IM is on all the time (Palringo)
Push email
I am writing this post on a laptop using my kaiser as an HSDPA modem
So far no complaints, if they do, I will move up to plus... I think as long as I don't take the mickey and stay clear of skype they will probs be OK.
I was thinking of VPNing into my house so they couldn't tell what I was doing
Same here, I got the cheapest W&W (£7.50) about a year ago and I've used it for pretty much everything without any problems.
Hi all!
Could any of you tell me if live radio stations work on WnW? I am not sure about the protocol, it may be mms or http or even shoutcast. The streams are not high quality ones, they are mostly 32kbit/s streams. I know the fair use policy prohibits using streaming media on WnW but is it actually blocked? I am planning on going on contract with TMob mainly because i could listen to my fav radio stations (foreign ones) on the go. Any ideas?
Thanks, Robbie
I just tested the freezefm.co.uk broadband stream ( http://194.150.120.40:8040/listen.pls ) and it worked fine

Don't all mobile phone data connections go through the network provider's proxy anyway?
I thought that was how they implemented their "Content Control" to stop under 18's from gambling and viewing adult content, etc...
If they do, then that's an even easier way of telling *exactly* what you're doing with your connection.
I guess they only really look at that if you're taking the pee with the fair usage limits though - it would give them a perfect excuse for kicking you off if you're using Skype despite the t&c's - but they're not going to care enough (or have the resources) to check out the usage of everyone who's within their one gig a month...

I'd rather pay for the XM app than Pandora though.
there was a way to get the xm app and the mobi tv app free on qvga winmo
i have to assume someone will figure out how to get pandora working for us but yes 9 bucks is crazy

On Skyfire's forum they say that the browser does not support entering text on flash based sites yet. They are still working on it. My guess is once they get it working Skyfire will be $9 a month also. JMG

I just ordered a HTC 8x (keeping my 32gb SIII for now) from Verizon and had a few questions. I have not used a Windows phone since my HTC TP2 - which I loved until the HTC Incredible came out. Is there an app that allows WiFi tethering - like FoxFi? I don't use it all that much but when I travel it is nice. I am grandfathered in to unlimited so the tiered plans are not an option. I also use mass txt messages several times (13 team members) a week and I am currently using GoSMS to do it. I am hoping there is a similar app that allows mass txting on Windows Phone OS - stock would be great. Does the wireless charging system use more power than the traditional hard wired cables?
Looking forward to WM8 & thanks all for any help!
Currently
On WP8 only way to tether (I could be wrong) is to pay carrier extra fee. I am waiting on another option as well, and as far as mass text you can do that in the groups setting I send out text to 16 people at a time for basketball games and such. And the room feature seems to be nice but I haven't used it yet. There is also http://xyo.net/lumia/ which will tell you what apps are somewhat equivalent.
WP8 -- in settings has an option for internet sharing (no app needed) that provides up to 5 other devices (at least on my 920 with AT&T). I assume that this is a general option in WP8 ...
I have the shared data plan that allows tethering, so I am not sure if networks need to have it allowed in order to use it ...
But, the option is there without the need of an app ...

wi-fi tethering is a built-in feature in WP8 (since WP7.5) - it's called "internet sharing". i have no problem with at&t, using my nokia 920 as a wi-fi AP for my notebook and my ms surface rt. i can even go remotely to my work computer through VPN.
you can create a group, adding anybody from your contacts. after that you can send email or text sms to all the contacts from this group - just by one click.
and yes, you don't need any additional applications for these features.

i've been a t-mobile customer, and now i'm an at&t client. i didn't pay anything additional for using my phone as a modem (through bluetooth or wi-fi, whatever) and i'm not paying now. the only payment you should be aware of - for the data, you use. i subscribed to a data shared mobile plan in at&t - $90/mo for 6Gb shared data (plus unlimited voice and text) for up to 10 (i believe) lines (i use 4) plus $35/mo per device. i pay $225/mo for 3 smartphones and 1 simple phone. we've never overlimited our 6Gb plan. though if you do, it costs $15/1Gb.
the room is a cool feature, but it works only for WP-phones. but as i said you can group your contacts to be able to email or text all of them by one click.
I think on Verizon unless I am on the Share all plan I am not allowed to use the wifi/bluetooth tethering. At least without an app like FoxFi. Speaking of contacts... how are they managed on WP8? I will go out on a limb and say iCloud is definitely out and probably so is Gmail... hope its that easy.

While the SIII is a great device it is NOT the end all of phones. There are still plenty of force closes and lock ups on the device. I am just wanting to try something different and I have been looking forward to WM8 for a long time. Here's hoping.
^ you might want to read the WPcentral forums, and the iPhone forums, as they do the same lock ups and force closes.

the only way to avoid lockups is turning off these phones.
I don't think I've had a lock up or app crash on Windows Phone. They were all too common on iOS though.
But can we leave all the playground arguments over best platform to some other forum? they're only phones at the end of the day.

You're the first person in this thread to mention best platform, no one is arguing.
Crashes are present in Windows Phone as well, but are less obvious as the system simply closes down the app without saying a word.
In most cases, crashes are due to the poorly written app and not the system.
Although I have a killer wifi and university that restarts my phone lol.

^ you might want to read the WPcentral forums, and the iPhone forums, as they do the same lock ups and force closes.

After reading several of your posts, I still can't figure out if you are a WP8 supporter or not.
Either way, I have been on Android for my entire cell phone career for several years and most recently had the GS3. I can't even tell you how many force closes I have had from apps, lag and slowdown because of horrible resource management of the OS, dalvik cache slowdown, etc. I rooted all of my devices and was heavily into the technical side of things.
I never had an iPhone but have played with many. Never was my cup of tea, but I won't talk bad about it since I simply don't know enough.
I finally grew tired of it all and purchased a HTC 8X last week. I can tell you that WP8 OS is such a breath of fresh air coming from Android. There is absolutely no lag or slowdown whatsoever....ever. I can pop in and out of apps, do whatever I want and it constantly stays smooth. No ram dumps or reboots required. I also have not had a single force closed app or random reboot like some people have reported. It has been an absolute flawless experience so far.
Just thought I would post some positive energy after a lot of negative. Is WP8 a lot more simple than Android? Yes. Is it a bad thing? No. It's such a seamless and smooth experience that I'm not sure I can' go back to Android at this point. At least not for a while. YMMV.
You quote me why? Who was negative? Just stated a fact, dont be so defensive.

I'm not being defensive at all. Just stating my opinion based on your quote. The other reason why I quoted you is that I've seen you all throughout this WP8 forum sort of talking down on WP8. Just curious as to why and which side you are on. Not saying you have to pick a side or you can't talk down on WP8, but just curious.
What have I said down? That it lock ups? Is that a lie? App crashes? Is that a lie?How about random reboots? I could go and mention a host of other things but there is no point.
So don't quote me with baseless rhetoric.

You know, apologies are in order. I think I completely got you confused with someone else.
Anyhow, my bad. At the same time, my experience with WP8 that I posted doesn't change. I'm loving this OS so far! :good:
A ton of folks are, enjoy it. Don't take this stuff seriously, it's just a phone at the end of the day.
