Ok so, I can't remember the name of the app, but its features were:
You were able to send a SMS to your phone to, relay your current GPS position, turn on features like location, wifi, call log, and other such features, all through SMS commands.
I am NOT referring to "Where's My Android"
I could swear "track" was in the title, but I could be wrong. Anyone know what app I'm talking about? It's been updated recently in the past week or 2, I just didn't see it when I was browsing the apps.
EDIT: Actually I think I might be refering to SMS Commander, however I can't find it anywhere on the market? Anyone have a copy of the apk?
are you reffering to PinTail?
No, I think it was SMS Commander, I just can't seem to find it anywhere on the Market now....
I can't seem to find all the other apps like Phonebook and Hello AIM.
What's going on?
SMS Commander is now a paid app, $2.99. There's also a Hello IM!, $9.99. PhoneBook is still there and free.
GPS Tracker fits some of those features, but not all.

xSeri, that's odd. do you have paid apps showing up yet? I just used the search feature for "SMS Commander" "Hello" and "PhoneBook" and came up with those. Just installed the phonebook one

Before I jumped on the root bandwagon I seem to remember seeing an app in the Market called No Ads or something similar which removed adverts from apps.. I cant seem to find it on the market, does anybody know what exactly it was called? or has anyone got the .apk? many thanks

I think it was called "Ad Free" but I can't seem to find it in the market now :-/ Tbh, I thought it was pretty useless, as it actually makes pages uglier by showing a "page could not be found" error instead of the ad. It sounds silly, but I actually reverted to the old HOSTS file because of it.

ok thank you anyway sir. nice to see another brit on here
Its called "AdFree" exact capitalization and spelling
AdFree is a great program. One of my favs. I would rather see "can't be loaded" over an ad th slows down loading time. Check for updates if you download an app with ads normally cleans them right up.

I could not agree more.
after you install adfree, you have to reboot a few times and clear you browser cache. It take some work to get the "this page cannot be displayed" to catch on and go away.
great, thanks guys.

If you're paranoid, as I am, about running root-enabled apps that are closed source, this script does the same thing. Also, not being an app, it cannot eat up execution memory in any way. Furthermore, not using an app means Google will not know (which is not to imply that they necessarily care) that you are running an ad blocker.

Interesting... Very intersting....
I'm going to check this out. One less app never hurt. Thanks.
The notification icon is a grey "i" in a grey circle.
Will uninstall whatever it is.
edit: went thru the latest astro apk and the notification icon was not in there, so its probably not astro.
I use astro and have never seen this. Not sure what it is that's doing it, but I don't think its astro.

Dumb question probably, but happen's when you push that notifcation? Browser opens up?
I typed in WonderWall and found and found an app called MSN WonderWall (Wonderful Wall magazine) and went ahead and installed it. Not sure if that's your culprit.
should show up in logcat.

Quick Uninstaller seems to be the culprit according to this.
This happened to me too recently, thought it was a fluke but after seeing this it reminded me. I dont have quick uninstaller so its not the only one doing it.
Are either of you guys using chrome 2 phone firefox extension, or any programs of that type?
Hmmm....I hope this isn't a security thing with C2DM.

Nope, you have to download chrome 2 phone. It's why I asked if you're using the firefox extention. That's not writting by the chrome 2 phone people and you don't know what's happening on their end.
The c2dm api is present, but you have to have an app installed to receive the intent.
In the Chrome 2 Phone combo, your browser extension sends the intent to the Chrome 2 Phone app, and the app displays the notification.
I can right a "happy buttons" app that I tell you displays happy faces, and that's all you think it does, however I can send ad notifications through the C2DM api and have it show a notification like the one you guys are seeing. All without the Chrome 2 Phone extention/apk combo.

No, no, I wasn't implying froyo came with chrome2phone, but that practically every froyo user has installed this and if it what chrome2phone, this would have been more widespread.

Might be from shopsavy the barcode scanner
So today I used Google Maps to search for a location. I did not appreciate the ads at the bottom of the search results.
Is there a way to disable the ads? Shall I just reinstall Sprint Navigation(telenav is good) and use that instead?
Thank you thank you
edit: should have noted that i do use the turn by turn nav. so an online, gps enabled option is what id like. ill check out the option you noted, t12icky0
i had the same issue..i just didnt like Google maps. went through many different programs but eventaully ended up getting an APP called " IGO"...its an offline as well as online map directions service. you would just need to download the maps for you state(or any state).
ITS GREAT because you dont need an internet connection as it can run the maps and such offline unless you wanna use GPS(or anything else).
Where do you download iGo I don't see it in the market??

I think you misunderstood what he meant... He meant that you can't use the marketplace unless your phone is activated. Not that you can't use both if the phone is activated.
ahh yeah, sorry my bad.
I read it incorrectly, I thought he was saying you cant deploy apps if your phone is activated
ok my phone is activated and unlocked...installed some cracked apps found via the forum...now when i go into marketplace and try to download a free app, i get this error "Can't get this info right now, check back in a little while"...what's the deal?
If you have problem downloading app's from market use ident. trick by xboxmod:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\operatorpkg]
"Version"="7.3.728.10201"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Platform\DeviceTargeting Info]
"OemName"="HTC"
"MODeviceName"="HD7 T9292"
"OEMDeviceName"="Schubert"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Ident]
"FriendlyName"="HTC HD7"
