The phone can change to landscape mode in browser and photo viewer when i rotate it. But i don't know how to change it in other application, any ideas??
I don't think you can without some other addon program.
go to settings, system, screen, and its there?
I have checked there is nothing related to screen orientation under screen setting

According to the guy at coolsmartphone, it only works in the photo and web browser apps.
He clearly said he can change it in browser and photos. His accelerometer is fine. What he wants to know is how to manually rotate the screen in apps that don't support the accelerometer.

And as i pointed out above, it doesnt work unless your in the photo browser or web browser applications.
Im pretty sure given time, just like the Nokia N95 8gb which has a built in accelerometer, someone will program an app that woudl allow you to rotate the screen no matter what application or program you are running. At the moment on my N95 8GB phone, i have a neat little program called rotateme that does that function.

The word manual is crucial here. Windows Mobile devices can have the screen rotated manually, in the settings. The accelerometer has nothing to do with that.
Wow what a mess...
Spawn12: My comment was directed at 'walshieau', not you. He suggested his accelerometer was broken.
Dark Fire: Yeah that option isn't there on the diamond. The guy one coolsmartphone tried to look for it in one of the videos. 'ngod' also can't see it. Thats why i said you'd need some third party hack/program to do it.

Wow...That's quite rare. I wonder if the relevant registry entries are still there, and working. If they are, that's good. If they aren't that's really random.

Just a guess, but maybe it freaked out their accelerometer/flor3d stuff so they just removed it. I'm sure the registry entries and API are still there to do it tho.

ok an update, it ONLY works while you have opera browser open, and there is NO WAY to change it at the moment without an application doing it...

Yeah, I've been wondering for a while about what would happen in Opera and whatever else is affected by the accelerometer, if you had the Touch Diamond in landscape mode. Would everything rotate such that it would never be the right way up for you to read it?

AE Button Plus
AE button plus can do it when not in touchflo 3D . tested.
you can assign a hard button to rotate the screen.
ok i cant believe no one knows this but htc have disabled the screen rotation. has nothing to do with the g sensor. its disabled bc touchflo3d has been developed only for portrait and not landscape. other apps like the youtube app have also been designed for that. the manilla keyboard on the diamond has also been designed pretty much only for portrait. it just has a landscape qwerty layout.
its ment to be like the iphone where its portrait most of time. if you can overwrite the files within the windows folder im pretty sure u can bring it back. might be some registry too.
I know thats already in development Black Box that saves the position of the device. But i had this idea that is to record the movements of the phone like you where drawing on air and past the coordenates do a drawing...maibe in 3d if possible...
hmmm very interesting...but U will need program for 3D drawing and that isnt so easy...
Great idea!
This brings me to an other idea: Why not use gestures? For example if you draw an "O" (circle) in the air let the device open opera. That could be kind of handy, couldnt it?

May be a bit more complex than just logging the acceleration...
Yes, funny idea.
Why not exploit BlackBox data with an algorithm eek which could translate some gesture sequences as a character sequence and display it in a text editor ?
A kind of transcrib...air
That would be awesome!
How abt a replicate of Logitech MX Air mouse.. You can sway your device in the air to control your windows media center..
Or perhaps a seismograph to measure earthquakes?
Oh wait.. im going nutz.. lol
is the accelerometer really that sensitive?
recall iphone people talking about it measuring speed in a car
but was horrible unprecise

This is very unlikely to work with just one accelorometer... how is it supposed to identify distances in space?
It can only detect changes of positions but not real movement. You will not be able to make this work properly with just one accelorometer...

Well, you can poll the sensor to get the acceleration at a certain point, and using this you can get the speed of the device, which will allow you to get the distance moved by the device over a certain period, and that lets you work out the relative positions.
This is the realization of this idea but in 2D...
Try it .... it's about fun and activity rather than artistic drawing...

After having a Touch a few months back, i thought the Diamond would be a breeze. NO such luck in my experience.
For example. On the main home screen. How do you edit that so it's just the clock or, to add more to the list that currently shows calendar and call history? I can't find any way to do this so if you can enlighten me, i'd really appreciate it.
What about when texting? Is there any way to make the keypad a different size? Personally i can't find a way to edit that. It's annoying that after adding your contacts name, you seemingly have 90% of the screen filled with the entry system and you have to mess about to get to the message section of the screen. Guessing i've missed something somewhere!
Zooming in on a photo... how is that done? Orange's CD ROM User Manual is vague to say the least so if you can assist here to, please do.
This thread could become a handy hints and tips chart for beginners if all feedback is good so if you have a question or some simple advice for settings and the way to go around things, chuck a note in and someone will be very happy to see the reply
1) Well if u flick ur finger in an upward motion on the home screen u'll notice the clock becoming smaller and will list all the list all ur appointments from ur calendar...
2) If u are not satisfied in the HTC Keyboard, u will need to look into other keyboards my fav personally is Touchpal from Cootek and there is even resco keyboard which is pretty gud.
3) You can only zoom in a picture when u r in the HTC Album, in order to zoom you will need to rotate your finger clockwise or anti-clockwise i am always forget which is for zooming so u will need chk tht out...
I hope these tips helps u out....

Hmmmmmm, i see. Shame that somehow we can't take the good things from the Touch like the Home screen as standard and have them in the 3D instead. If any cab compilers are reading this, maybe it's something that could be done?
Along those lines, maybe someone could rip out the original texting keyboard, the smaller more compact one... better for stylus use and enables you to see more screen. I HATE the big finger pad they've put on the Diamond. Is is really necessary to have it that big? Surely if you're going to use the stylus (i mean if HTC didn't want us to use one, then ALL the functions and menus would be larger, yes?), then why provide us with one in the first place?!?!!

There are multiple SIPs already built into the Diamond. Holding your finger or stylus on the small arrow next to the keypad button when input is allowed will display the menu, from there you can select the Windows SIP which is tiny and stylus friendly...
Reading the manual is a good idea before posting dude. Or even a search

Ok... answer this one then. Every other HTC phone i have had has done this but not on the Diamond. When you receive a simple thing like an mms or a text, the screen lights to give a clue in case you never heard the message laert. How you you activate THAT cus i'm not seeing how it'ds done anywhere.

HTC want a good kicking if you ask me. The thing as I see it is this. If they'd have kept the basics as it was on the Kaiser (Tytn II) and THEN added the 3D, all would have been superb.

How do I disable screen rotation on my Touch Diamond, specifically when using Opera?
I've tried Gyrator 2 but to no avail.
Solution:
Not elegant but...
Change registry HKLM\Software\Opera\GSensor\IdleTime to a very large number like 1000000.
not 100% sure but try deleting the gsensor.lnk file in windows\startup folder
I saw in one of the threads that even the phone dialer screen rotates. This doesn't occur in my phone. Does this happen in your phones??

Not as standard - only Opera (and one other that I have forgot about) rotates. However if, like me, you use GSen then other apps (you can choose which) will rotate. My dialer screen rotates as does my TT6 for example.
Thanks!!
I read reviews on Gsen & Gyrator still having some teething problems in this same forum. I don't mind to wait further before things like these gets ironed out.
If you are aware of something that is error free so far, appreciate a lead.

I see you managed to auto-rotate your tomtom.
is that possible with the iGo8?
I've tried adding that line in the gsen config but it still doesnt work.
I have had no problem with Gsen and it works fine for me. I can't answer if it works with Igo because I don't use it, but it works with TTN6. Having said that if I turn a corner sharply at the same time as hitting a bump it goes back to portrait for a few seconds.

Yes. But sometimes it also happens if I am carrying it and accidently tilt it.
Solved.
Edited registry HKLM\Software\Opera\GSensor\IdleTime to a very large number like 1000000.
This auto rotating has been drving me mad. People all were suggesting gsen and other utilities but they all are awkward. In the end this simeple trick did it.
Like Apple was the first to get the touchscreen done right after 20 years of touchscreen history, Apple also did the auto-rotate right. With an iPhone/iPodTouch, it won't turn more than twice, so you can easily avoid unwanted rotation. Why Windows Mobile develops cannot figure out simple solutions like that?
Thanks for posting this fantastic workaround!
I saw this thread weeks ago but lost it and couldn't find it again despite my best efforts with the search function & google.
Here's a CAB for it (my 2nd ever!):
Thanks alot .d
just a little FYI - the cab doesn't work for me...the program (Opera) still auto rotates. I have tried the manual hack too.

Found the solution! I'm so happy. I'm done with this stupid automatic rotation:
The trick about HKLM\Software\Opera\GSensor\IdleTime need to be done but you also need to remove in HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\WhiteList
the opera value.
I did the same for google maps and it works perfectly
I don't know about the rest but for HTC HD it's VERY SIMPLE!
HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\AutoRotation = 0 (Default = 2)
My Problem was mostly with Dialer. No more screen rotation for me!

Thanks Davey101. Your cab file works well with the HTC HD Mini to disable the annoying autorotate feature in Opera Mobile 10.
Anybody know if there is a cab or reg tweak I can apply to disable zooming in messaging when I hit the scroll wheel? I keep doing it by accident and it's really getting on my nerves.
Thanks!

haha, yah same here.

I too would like a cab for that.
yeah i'm game for a solution...
maybe a quick reg hack or something. sometimes it goes haywire and i can't fix it unless i soft-reset.
omg this is driving me crazy!
is there a known fix for this f** functionality??
in for 1 too
i honestly don't see how this hasn't been addressed before?
I'm not sure if there is a better solution yet, but for now I have simply disabled SmartTouch entirely.
Grab a copy of FdcSoft TaskMgr, go to the Services tab and find the SmartTouch(SMT0) entry. Tap and hold, select Stop, then Set Manual, then Disable.
I don't use the scroll or zoom functionality for anything at all so this works for me. I found this info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462662
i dont think you would want to kill smarttouch all together. maybe just find and delete the registry entry for text messages. i think it is hklm\sofware\htc\smarttouch\outlook email. i dunno if thats really it but who knows.

No, from what I can tell, it doesn't. I'm not going to test though because I finally did find a good solution.
After digging around the registry for a couple hours to no avail, I decided to start playing with programs that use SmartTouch. Lucky me I found one that disables zooming in SMS, is customizable, and doesn't mess up any other zooming functionality (ie: Opera). Yay!
My thanks to demosten for creating SensorScroll which can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466377
Just install and soft reset. I had to play around with turning the service on/off (can be done from the start menu shortcut) and testing the zoom in SMS until I had the right size and zoom was disabled.
Hope this works for you!
