I'm looking for a scanning app that reads barcodes and then stores the data. I do not want one that searches for the product info and such. My hopes are something that once the barcode is scanned, that is then allows me to enter identifying info and then it would all be stored in a database or file that could be exported to a pc.
My use for the app would be that I installed Routers and I want to track the barcode based on which customer the router is installed at. The app does not need to be specific to my use, even a dvd inventory app or some other inventory app would be suitable. Does something like this exist? If not this can be moved to the idea\request thread.

After seeing iPhone apps and trying out a G1 for a while, I'd like to have some of the apps available on these phones on my Tilt. The problem is, I can't find some of the nicer ones available for Windows Mobile.
Netflix App - I'd love to have one of these but from all my searching I can't find one. I know you can browse their website with a browser, but it would be so much nicer to have an application that pulls up just the data I need quickly and easily.
Price Scanning App - I loved this app on the G1. You scan a bardcode and it tells you the product name, gives you reviews, and shows you a list of local prices and online prices for that product.
Yellowpages App - I saw this on on the G1 (and I think it's out for the iPhone too). It's just a yellowpages.com search interface inside an app.
Restaurant Search and Reviews App - Something that either uses GPS or something where I can enter my zip code. Allows me to narrow down restaurants by pricing and type of food. Reviews would be a nice plus.
Webcam App - I had this on my G1 and loved it. I was able to connect to my panasonic webcam and view it by simply launching the app.
Are any of the above available for Windows Mobile?
Windows Mobile has never had such complex apps.
Maybe buy an iPhone or a G1?

Alright, here is my contribution to the XDA society:
Barcorama was found in less than two minutes by using the googlized search option. Just click HERE!
As for your webcam app, you can use orb.com to access more than just your webcam from your PPC, or PDA.
The other ones, I didnt really get too far into looking at, because kidNamedAlbert is right, those are some uber complex precesses.
Remember, also search first and when you feel you just can't find it, search again. Chances are, it's out there.
hope this helps
I don't understand the want or need to have 10 different apps that all search for some very specific thing when one app that can do it all is much more convenient. what if I want to look up a restaurant's number, call them, make a reservation, and then get a map to their? should I have to use 4 different programs to accomplish that, or should I just use one (google maps)? heck, Live Search does all that, AND can also do it with voice recognition. and tell you the weather while you travel.
If you look hard enough you can find all this functionality with existing WM apps, as per above.
Try microsoft's free windows live for what you are looking fore and more. It's fee.
www.wls.live.com
Or even Google maps at www.google.com/mobile.
Enjoy it.

Totally agree!
In addition: GARMIN MOBILE XT in version 5.0 does it all too - has in addition even a CALL DESTINATION feature.
I just do not understand the need of people to have web application 'installed' in their devices! Well, maybe I am getting too old for all that, who knows?
<Damn, now I sound like a smart ass, LOL>
I was stood in my kitchen yesterday, using Tesco's online website, searching what I needed and adding it to the shopping list. It was a relatively simple task, but could have been easier.
It gave me a few questions -
1) Do any online grocers have apps yet? (I know Ocado have one for the iPhone)
2) How hard would it be to write an app that worked through the online website?
3) How hard would it be to make an app that used the barcode scanner as an input device? I already e-mailed Tesco asking how easy would it be to include barcode search into their search results. In theory then, you scan a product your about to throw out and it could add it to your shopping list.
I'm currently e-mailing all online grocers suggesting they could win some customers by being the first to produce an Android app, the new up and coming mobile platform etc...
Just some thoughts... Has anyone else thought similar? Does anyone have any answers?
Grocery App
There is and app out alreay that does exactly what you want , it is called Grocery King. It has a barcode scanner and will add what you scan right to ur shopping list , and also allows for user defined input of items, as well as a database with quite a few items already preset for ur shopping list, I have used a cpl diff apps for shopping and thus far this one is the best I have used.

My shopping list on Tesco.com for example?
If not, it's no use to me I'm afraid.
So I've set up a spreadsheet to do all this work for me. basically I enter in minimal data, eg clients name and the package they ordered, andy auto fills all of the related expenses and ordering needs, as well as remaining balances. what I'm looking for is an app I can read this information from the spreadsheet and display it better. or an app that I can put all this information into. I'vel try a couple different database apps, but those are mostly for making lists. does anyone know something that would fit the bill?
-OR-
would it be possible to create this in google app inventor? Thanks. ___________
If you're looking for something that can open and edit spreadsheets you might want to check out Quick Office. I'm fairly certain it can do both.
Thank you for your response. I have quick office and that's what I'm currently. I'm hoping to find (or create) an app that uses the data from a xls (or similar form) on the back end, but has a pretty and mobile friendly gui on the front.
Ooooh! If you find something, let us know!
I have a project that I'm trying to do which is a database, and really I need it to be available as an app on phones, but with the ability to upload/download records from a shared database online.
I.e. local shell where data records can be entered, and either just stored/retrieved locally, or uploaded to the online database for others with the same app to access and vice versa.
I've looked at Memento and HandBase and in terms of the local database side of things they look good because they can be customised easily (for a database no-nothing like me), but I have no idea about whether they can do the online bit or how I would do that.
Are there any services which would offer online storage/sharing (ideally free to at least test!) of the data from apps like these? And if these particular app examples won't do the online bit is there one that anyone knows of that would do what I want?
I'm no good at databases but find apps at this level easy enough to use. So it'd need to be reasonably idiotproof. Probably am asking too much here, but thought it's worth asking in case there is something that suits my needs without needing to be a database boffin.
As the icing on the cake, it would be great if it could also be used on desktops as well. Does such a thing exist that does all this and can be set up by a simpleton?
Thanks for any useful suggestions in advance.
Actually, the more I read about Memento, the more it looks like it can pretty much do all of this, fairly easily via google docs and/or their own servers.
From the look of it also, if I wanted a database that required payment for access I'd just take a paypal payment for instance, and then grant the user access via adding their email address to the list of permitted users? Think that's how it works but if anyone uses Memento and can confirm this sort of thing that'd be cool.
Dear Internet,
it may sound a little bit strange, but I need help, a lot of help!
I don't know anything about coding an Android app or something like that, but I have to make an app for personal use, just to know how creating an app looks like.
My app looks like this:
The app that I want to create is an Social Media network for everyone around the world. It is used for people with accounts on a worldwide map. The account contains, or course, your description. But instead of daily life selfies or photo's, this app is used for Geography where photo's/video's from around the world are shown on someone's account. These photo's are pinned on a worldwide map, which will be in the main app.
* Summary *
The accounts are pinned on a worldwide map, which will be shown every time you'll log in. The accounts can also be searched in a search bar. Someone's account contains a pin section with all the photo's he/she made, shown on a world map (again but without the account pins).
It is a really small app, but many people could use it.
Again this app is only used for geographical photo's and video's, where people can give their stories on.
I really want to build this app, but I don't know where to start...
Greetings,
Papyrends
