I recently had a xda IIs before i found out that the qwerty is busted. I've searched the site and found out that theres an app which is "Fingerboard" that can be used as a keyboard aside from the default one that xda has. Now the question is that, can we install it to the BA? ive checked the thread about that and it says there that it need to match the screensize (QVGA,VGA,WVGA im not sure)And if possible I wanted to use that as my default keyboard since Im really not comfortable with using the stylus..
Thanks in advance for all your replies...
Hopefully I wont offend someone or make someone angry about my questions.
1. you are probably talking about this app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487677
it is called fingerkeyboard 2.1 and it is great.
2. yes, you can install it to the BA, just pick the QVGA cab installer.
the screen (size/) resolution is very important for apps like this, because, it wants to bring you bigger keys, so you can control the soft keyboard with your fingers, on the other hand, it needs practically all the keys, the small soft keyboard has, without being too big, so you couldn't see the rest of the screen, hard to find a good way to do that, but fingerkeyboard2 is a good program doing all of that (in he 2.1 version). in case you were wondering, the BA's screen is QVGA, meaning 240*320, in contrast to VGA, 480*640 and WVGA 480*800.
3. i am using i as my default keyboard, too. there are different ways to set this as default, tweak programs, registry changes... but the easiest way to do so is, to install SIP change, pick fingerkeyb as default, and set the timeout to 50seconds, meaning, whenever you soft reset your device, sip change will start and set fingerkeyb as default, and after 50sec. the program quits, because then it is definitely set.
installing both apps isn't hard, just 2 cab files you copy to your device. fingerkeyb needs a bit of configuration to match your country's layout and other things like sound, vibrate, auto-correction, but it is self-expainatory, plus you will find a lot of help in that particular thread, so look it up, install it, have fun.
P.S. i forgot to mention the 2 biggest advantages: it is (in contrast to SPB keyboard) FREE & SMALL in installation size.

Hey folks, I got my Wing a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I had a treo before, and this makes me much happier. I had gotten into modding the UI a bit and playing around with the best combos of third-party software on my old treo, so I started playing with my Wing. Well, I've gotten probably mid-level with my technical modding competency thus far. I'm comfortable with most progs and mods I've found below actually flashing the ROM, and I'd think about that too, but I've gathered that most of the TF roms out have trouble on the Wing. So far, I'm overclocked to 260, tweaked some stuff in the registry, installed the HTC Touch UI minus the cube and all that, but I'm not quite happy. So, I have some questions:
On the HTC Home 5 tab skin:
1. Is there any way to put custom icons in the launcher area? Not just style-wise(though that would be good), but that link to things that aren't on the list? I'd really love to but a button that would take me to "settings" in there, like the one that takes you to "programs". I have a few other ideas too.
2. On the weather tab, I know there is a way to add cities to the "select city" list by getting the city code off of accuweather.com and changing the registry, but I can't figure out how to get the code for my city when I look it up on the site...I search it, and it comes up, but where is the code?
3. I put the HTC black theme on here, but I wondered, are there any others available? I know I've seen a blue one, and I think I've seen pictures of an HTC Touch that had a red theme....
Other Stuff:
1. I tried to up my page pool to 6mb like it says in the "all you need to know" thread, but the preparation app wont work....I install it, but nothing happens after that....I can't find it to open or anything else...Is installing it enough?
2. Is there any way to keep wm6 from putting the recently used programs on the start menu?
3. Is there any way to change the two links on the bottom bar that the soft keys are mapped to? Not change what the keys are mapped to, but like, change "Calendar" to "Settings" or "Contacts" to "Messaging", for example?
4. Is there anything out there that would let me navigate my phone with my finger? I know certain programs have this capability, like Opera Mobile's latest beta and PocketCM(which I use), but I'd like it on all windows that require scrolling....
Apps:
1. Anyone know the best app to use to stream radio and/or tv on my phone?
2. What's the best way to watch youtube? I wouldn't ask, but I've found like three or four different threads/articles on ways to do it, and I don't know which I should use. I prefer to use Opera as my browser, but I can use PIE now and then, if the process actually lets me watch it in my browser....
3. Can ya suggest any good games?
Well, thanks in advance for any help you can give. I've been trolling here for a while, so I know there are some very smart people here and I have faith. Sorry for asking so much, and forgive me if I should have broken this up a bit into different threads, but I'm trying to perfect my phone, and this was basically what was left on my list....Any other tips on how to achieve my goal of making a nice, clean, finger-friendly UI and putting the picking the best apps would be appreciated too.
Peace.
Ok, I figured out the HTC weather thing, and the today softkey thing, so I'm good there. Any help on the rest?
I can cover a few for you but any more's gonna cost ya....
flash your phone with either of the touch roms out right now and you will be able to finger scroll in nearly all applications.
try avotmv, or search using google for similar programs for streaming videos(avotMv includes youtube as well as google).
Many streams to tv stations can be opened with WMP directly which makes it alot easier to connect to them by saving them as PIE favourites. You just need to find 'em first, I would suggest doing that from your computer first.
I've recommended Flux Challenge before, ill do it again...apart from that I don't run too many games from my pocket pc. Seal Volleyball is kinda fun too.
Maybe some others can assist you with the rest
cheers
I am sorry if this has been answered before, but I can't find the answer anywhere. How can I change the auto suggestions from the one that's in the screenshot to the older pop-up version?
Have you looked under start-->settings-->personal-->input? Once here select the input method you wish to use and customize it all the way. This should inlcude adding your own words to the dictionary/pop up suggestions etc.
I don't know the popup you mean but it sounds to me like it belongs to an older keyboard. You need to install that keyboard, if you can find a VGA version.
Failing that you could try another keyboard like Resco or TouchPal to see how you get on. I think the T9 system in TouchPal is great, a whole other level better than the HTC keyboards.
I was wondering how to get the word suggestions to the one in this screenshot.
Ths thread explains it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445959
short version: disable T9 and use a different keyboard...

You can't use that one with HTC's keyboards. That belongs to Microsofts' built-in SIP's. I find HTC's much better and quicker to use. If you've only just changed from the 'old' word suggestions from Microsoft, maybe you need a bit more time to get used to them. Other than that, you'll have to use Microsoft SIP's instead of HTC's.
I'm sure if there was a way to resolve your issue, some wiz-kid here would have already done it
I forgot to mention this, but I am not use HTC keyboards. I am using PocketCM Keyboard v0.20.
I figured it out thanks to Steve in this form post #21: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425405
Here is the suggestion which works!
found this in another thread
changes for auto complete
IMPORTANT: previously be sure that HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\XT9SupportMSSip has a value of 0.
Simply change these two registry keys under:
HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\layouts\e 0010409
Ime File : \windows\xt9ime.dll change to Ime File :\windows\compime.dll
and
Layout Text : XT9 IME change to Layout Text : COMP IME
And soft reset.
suggest words in a drop down list as in WM6
I don't think these play well together. When I installed PIEPlus I got an error that said "can not get window handle from Browser interface", so I uninstalled it.
I reverted my PIE from IE6 back to the old version, reinstalled PIEPlus and it works.
I'm no expert, so it could have been a different issue, but my PIE+ is working and that makes me a happy girl.
I searched through the forums and never found anything to help me so I hope this helps someone. If everyone, except me, already knew this then there is egg on my face...I hear it's good for your skin anyway.
Possibly found something for you.
Here's something I posted a while back about the different classname that IE6 uses for the window it draws.
My post was to try and get the TouchPro's touch-sensative wheel (aka. Smartscrolling) to work in IE6 but it could be relevent to your question.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=59424
I found something that works. It was really bugging me, ever since people started cooking IEMobile6 into their awesome ROMs, that 4-wayNav/SmartScrolling were broken.
I think I found an improvement. I found this classname using the FDCsoft TaskManager: IEMobile instead of IExplorer
-It scrolls really slowly
-And it still doesn't jump to every single link, but it hits more than just d-pad.
NewKey:[HLKM\Software\HTC\SmartTouch\IEMobile]
"ClassName"="IEMobile"
Interesting! I'm using PIE+ on a stock Fuze (WM 6.1) with no problems.
not all that interesting
stock Fuze doesn't have PIE6 on it.
I was using PIEPlus on a stock Fuze just fine as well...then I flashed a custom ROM that includes PIE6
?
I feel ignored, lol.
A little feedback would be appreciated, not necessary, of course, but in the spirit of conversation.
Did you understand what I meant about the "classname"??
If PIE+ uses a fair amount of registry keys for its program, you might just need to change a few registry values and be good to go.
Most of the applications don't know that there is a different windowclass because we're using stuff grabbed from WM6.5 ROMs. Which is Awesome, but some apps get confused.
scoobasteve, please don't feel ignored. I just didn't understand what you meant. I looked at your other post (ppcgeeks) again this afternoon to try to understand and I still don't entirely, but maybe a little.
For what it's worth, I thought I would change the registry to go back to PIE6 after PIEPlus was successfully working and now it's royally screwed up. I'm not sure what to do with registry keys within PIE+ to get it to look for the right stuff; I'm not that advanced.
I may uninstall/reinstall PIEPlus again to see if all of the correct keys are found again. Maybe I should have posted this in the ROM specific thread, but I know that PIEPlue didn't install correctly on a variety of new ROMs that I flashed last week.

I was just kidding, btw. Some people don't even check the threads more than once or twice a week
I'd be happy to explain. Hopefully simply and not so off that I get chastized by one of the pros. hehe
The way programs create a window is by refering to a template of some kind. In many cases they are found in __.dll files. In WinMo6.5, I'm pretty sure the Search Widget, Weather Widget, and PIE6 all use the same type of window. Some of these Windows can be identified by a name, aka classname. This so that programmers can change different aspects of how the program reacts to our user input.
If you use HTCAlbum or HTCYouTube, those both have their own classnames as well. And as of right now, they are soooooo much easier to fingerscroll: Faster and smoother. The distance the window scrolls when you swipe the screen is one of the things someone can change in the registry. What you are really editing is how the program uses that window (windowclass/classname) when you swipe the screen with your finger.
So, the developers of 6.5 changed the classname that PIE6 uses. This is probably because it is so very different that few programs designed for 6.1 will work well with it. I tried using the PIE addon from Spb PocketPlus v4.1.0 and it got really confused. Pocket plus must have recognized certain elements but choked, big time, cause of the significant differences.
In Conclusion- I would not recommend using any PIE addons with PIE6 for right now. If you installed the old PIE, hopefully it will only be the widgets that won't work. I'm not really sure.
Had a little more time for this reply. Hope it helps a bit more.
Solution...
Change the registry key here
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer]
"MSHTML"=dword:0 ; 0 for old IE, 1 for IE Mobile 6
Install PIEPlus 2.2 and off you go...
I couldn't live without it eather...
Kind regards,
Axel
doesn't anyone actually read?
Freakydile:
not a solution...refer to op, that is what I did. That doesn't address the issue of PIE+ not working with PIE6 at all.
sc00basteve:
I have installed a 6.5 rom that I love so PIE+ will just have to go until it is updated to work with PIE6 or I can figure out a resolution.
Thanks, I understand a lot more about it now.
thanks

I am a normal user with pretty ok hang on general computing, but I got in way above my head. I sincerely hope someone will give aid.
Originally I was just looking for a way to 1) get my "tasks" to show on the HTCs interface start screen together with calender appointments and a way to record my phonecalls.
During my search I found some tweak-pack that did lord knows what. Among other things it added the options to record phonecalls, but only in wav and on main memory though.
Unfortunately it also made manila work in landscape mode, which I dont like. It flips over everytime I tilt my phone the slightest and I see no use for it actually.
I then downloaded some registry editor and tampered with some "enable landscape" setting under local user/software/manila and changed the value to false". After rebooting my phone still tilts and I cant find the command anymore in the registry. What did I do wrong?
I even uninstalled the tweak pack, which just made the record option dissapear again but the landscape rotating persists.
I also realized that adding the command again is easier said than done. Appearntly it takes much more than just writing it as I need to insert strings, dwords and whatsnot, and I have absolutely no clue about what is what.
Now Im even worse out than before. I have no record option any more, and the manila interface is still tilting. I still havent found a tweak or app that can add tasks to the manila homescreen.
Can someone help me disable the landscape rotaing, point me to a crash course for "phone-tampering illeterals" or recommend some way to get the two sought for features? Especially the call-recording preferably to memcard and mp3 is highly needed. First priority is to stop the screen from tilting though.
Oh please.. Help me out /cry..
about the manila rottion u can disable it by using td2 tools 3 in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536410
sadly that is only what i can help
hard reset your phone and that's it

Unfortunately if you tampered with the registry and did not save a backup, you will need to hard reset to get it back.
As Mohamed stated, TD2Tools will fix your rotation issue.
As far as incall recorder, here's the cab but you'll have to search on how to configure it.
I have not used it, so I cannot verify its functionality.
**Also, please edit your title to remove profanity, as it can only be implied here.... **
Hi,
I can verify- it works.
I use it and Resco Audio Recorder (paid) to record it in format i want (MP3 too) and there i want (phone or memory card)
1. Hard Reset
2. Install a ROM which has option to record a call
Thanks for the help guys. I never tried installing roms. Is there a list somewhere and some instructions on how to do it? Is it reversable without loosing everything on your phone?
With the tools recommended earlier will fix the rotation, the worst problem is averted. I still hope for some way to get a todo-list on my main screen without the cost of uninstalling Manila. But maybe thats not possible?

Read the wiki for flashing for newbies.
It is not reversable and you will loose all your data as well as your warranty if you screw it up.
Not many have been able to flash HardSPL lately which is the precursor to flashing a ROM so good luck with that, you'll probably end up having to pay for it, but it is well worth it.
All questions about flashing should be direct to that thread for maximum exposure and make sure to search and read first before you ask.
There are options on your current ROM to install a Second Today program and toggle between Manila and 2nd Today where you can add your todo list.
Note: not every registry hack is restorable by a hard reset.
i do like the keyboard that it comes with, but my fingers are too big. i hit the "." when i mean to hit "space", and i hit other buttons when i dont mean to. i want something that will learn my keystrokes. my buddy was telling me about HTC_IME and clicker, but i cant seem to find the right files. i looked into a tatto build, and took the apk files, but they wont install. i get "this program can not install on this device" error
just seeing whats out there. i tried installing the 320x480 myns, but the screen doesnt line up right on anything for me.
I use the free ShapeWriter keyboard found in the Android Market.
Hope this helps.

If you want only the english language...you can ignure the steps with language... But you must change to 120 dpi and change the dialer (contacts.apk)....look here:
Htc ime... it´s a long way....
Start....:
Installation Instructions
1. Install both HTC_IME.apk and Clicker.apk.
2. Rename/remove the file /system/lib/libt9.so (I suggest renaming to libt9bk.so). You need root permissions to do this (the program Root Explorer works great.)
3. Menu -> Settings -> Locale & text. Enable 'Touch Input'.
4. Go to a text field and long-hold until a menu pops up.
5. Select 'Input Method' and then 'Touch Input'
1.1 Download the latest htc ime from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567294
or here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661525
2.1 make the system root/write access to change the name of libt9
- open terminal
- type "su"
- type "mount -o remount,rw /system"
... and then I could rename the file w/ Root Explorer (must be root explorer..i think)
3.1 change the language: look here:
http://ostebaronen.dk/changing-htc_ime-language-to-danish/
a bit easier: change to htc ime...go to sms and long press on the input text...now a menu come and you can change....
go in a explorer to: data/data/com.htc.android.htcime/shared_prefs/com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml (now visible)--and copy it to sd card...
open the xml and change the language code (like in the link)....copy it over the old one....
please do not change the lang setting in text input settings...(you don´t see a lang in this box now)
i think it was all
edit: for the correct view: change to 120 dpi....and take my corrected dialer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=676102
Now it´s all...i hope
Super easy, you can get the HTC keyboard in 240x320.
Just follow the instructions,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661525
You will need to d/l the two files and install root explorer.

With kind regards..Alex
personally i like the HTC keyboard because i feel the text prediction better because of the clicker.apk includes a calibration app and it seems to adapt to me alot fast than other keyboards.
i also like that if i want to use a number or symbol i can just long hold on a key instead of having to switch to a secondary menu all the time
also staticchmbr i feel like i know you from somewhere?

That's your problem. You have a 240x320 hardware screen on the Vogue, and you are trying to use a resolution that it is not meant for. I do not understand why people think they can do this, and still expect things to function. First of all, you do not NEED the extra resolution, I run about 20 games and 15 apps on my phone, of all different sources, and 240x320 is fine. Secondly, use LCD density "113", just change the build.prop file before flashing NAND, and you are good to go. I have zero issues at all, with any apps.
-C
i AM running the 240x320, but tried the 320x480 just in case that was the issue. finally got it installed, but everytime i run the calibration it says" SORRY, the application has stopped unexpectedly. please try again".. maybe i just dont have the right file? i got it from another topic on here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661525&page=5
Can someone please tell me what is wrong with the default Android keyboard? I am 6'7" tall, and my hands are HUGE. My pinky is bigger than my wife's thumb, and I actually text with MY thumb, just fine, which is friggin huge, and I have no issues.
I am just baffled, because I see these 'alternate keyboard' threads all the time, so obviously there must be an issue for some ppl with the keyboard, but I guess for once it is not for us fat-fingers folks. Is it hard to use for small fingers maybe? I am so curious about this as the Android keyboard is such a breeze for me to use.

Yeah, I love the speed of the default keyboard. I've tried Betterkeyboard, and all those, Shapewriter, I think just about every one, and while some are cool, and hold potential, for me none compare to the speed of input in the default. I can type pretty damn fast with the default.
The only keyboard I can see being significantly better is Touchpal. If you remember it from Winmo, it was a FAST and efficient keyboard. But the developer keeps promising a release date, and renigging on it. If you feel like a laugh, go check out the forums:
