I set my Activesync to sync every 60 min in off peak times, but after a couple of days it automatically sets itself to "As Items Arrive" which is push.
Anyone else experienced this?

I've applied the "Fake" server trick to activesync, I have email set for manual update. I'm finding active sync running almost anytime that I check task manager. I kill it, but something keeps invoking it. Does anyone have some pointers on figuring out who's calling up active sync or ways to hold it off?
EDIT - It can be stopped, see below, it's time zones!
I also tried the fake setup and I'm also getting ActiveSync coming back on.
One application that does call ActiveSync (for me anyway) is iGO GPS software. Haven't seen any other app. yet and no ActiveSync in the background for me.
On the other hand, i have (real) exchange server set on manually. I just have to remember to close ActiveSync after syncs.
After weeks of using my Kaiser and battling Active Sync, which would be running almost any time I checked task manager, I think I found my culprit!
There have been a few comments about the time mysteriously changing time zones and the clock being wrong. I had not seen this until a few days ago when suddenly and intermittently my phone would jump 1 hour ahead. I'm on the Pacific coast and it was jumping to mountain time.
Anyhow, I went into Start>Settings>Phone>Time Zones Tab and Un-Checked the "Auto change time zone and clock" box. No more time issues and oddly, no more over agressive active sync. I closed it yesterday and it's still off today, first time ever, even after a soft reset which always completed with active sync running.
I've had ActiveSync almost 'permanently' running and I too have tried the fake server trick. Trouble is i'm abroad on holiday and i'm sure it's connecting to the phone network to sync by it's self. This is going to cost me a small fortune in over-seas charges or is there a reason why my gprs should be counting up by it's own (with all the obvious possibilities taken care of)?
Activesync kills my kaiser... if i put the kaiser into the wall with the power adapter its fine. But if i leave it hooked up to the PC Active sync always loads and it seems like it sync's every few minutes. After about 3-4 hours the today screen will freeze eventually. Anyone have any fixes or a way to only launch active sync manually? I just turned off the sync time zones so maybe that was the culprit.

Man, that was really aggravating me. Thank you so much.
You can also fix it by disabling the notification replog.exe NOTIFICATION_EVENT_TIME_CHANGE.

RemE will this effect me when I travel...I live in the Central Time Zone if travel west will doing this not change the clock to Pacific Time...if so, then there has got to be another culprit causing these time changes because when i look the notifications in MemMaid there are a ton of time changes, time zone changes....there is a bug somewhere that we have to find....
Yes, you'll just have to change the zone as you go, Start>Settings>Clock & Alarms "time" tab and set zone. If you go back and forth, set the visiting zone so that you can easily jump back and forth. Not much hasstle considering what it did before.

DotFreds Task manager will show you the notifications and do a whole lot more. It's free and you can get it here - http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1612
From the name of the notification I would say that it does exactly the same thing as unchecking the timezone thing, just doing it the hard way. I've known about doing it this way though for a lot longer cuz I used to do it on my wizard that way.
Hopefully this is not on the site already, I looked for it but couldn't find it.
Every 10 minutes the display on my Tilt turns on. I think its because i have my email set to update every 10 minutes. is there a registry tweak or something i can use to keep the screen from coming when updating emails?
Thanks

With the backlight, are you getting another ype of alert with the email (on screen message, auidible alert, etc.)?
Try changing you Email Alert settings in Start>Settings>Sounds & Notifications to None for email.
it only happens sometimes but for now it is not happening so thanks i guess
Hi,
I've tried searching the forums but couldn't find an answer to my problem - and that is, whenever i receive an email (i've setup my gmail account), and the phone is on standby mode, the phone fails to wake up to notify me (and only does so once i turn the phone back on). So is there any way for my gmail emails to get pushed into my inbox, rather than having to refresh? There is no issue with the similar SMS problem, though.
Any recommendations guys? Any help would be great!
Same here...
Would really like to see the solution!
what rom are you using with this issue?
My Diamond has hardly ever notified me of new retrieved pulled emails till I wake it up and see it connected, it works one in whilte.
The rom...
Standard UK Orange rom for me...
Standard O2 ROM for me (1.93)
anyone...?
have you set your alerts in sounds->advanced? maybe try to add vibrate as well as alert.
emails are stored server-side and not sent to your phone. You get them by asking the server. Since wifi and applications are disabled during sleep mode, no, this won't work.
It is however possible if you pay for a push-mail provider. But regular pop/smtp won't do the trick. (or a cooked rom which is capable of reactivating wifi while on sleep and triggering the server once in a while (I doubt anyone could do this, it is actually possible, but probably not due to the hardware restrictions we have), but hey, this would cost you a lot of money, even if you don't receive any mails).
edit: after a little search, there is apparently some free mail provider that seem to provide free push-mail, including hotmail. Search free push mail on google.
Using Advanced Config 3.2 you can enable Wi-Fi while in Standby mode....
you need to reg edit the following two items:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\Timeouts]
"BattResumingSuspendTimeout"=1
"ACResumingSuspendTimeout"=1
by default they are set to 1 on my dimond. i think 1 represents the time an app is allowed to try to start during sleep. one for when on battery and one for when on charger. i changed mine to 15 and now i get evey email notification even while the phone is sleeping. give it a try and let me know your results.
This would drain the battery like hell

i have done this on my phone and it has had no noticeable effect on battery life. my touch had these reg edits set at 15 from stock. i guess i should point out i am using the CDMA version of these phones.
O2 forwards all my Emails to my Diamond via MMS.
Most of the time it did NOT receive those MMS until i woke it up from standby (pushing the button on top to turn on the display). Then a load of MMS came to my inbox.
So i set both values on my Diamond to 15 and it looks like it helped this problem.
NOW the MMSs come in even with Diamond in standby (just like i was used to from my HTC Wizard).
And i can NOT see any big difference in battery life after one week of testing those values.
Hi Silence69
I agree with Blazeitup123 you should go to settings - all settings - personal - sounds & notificatios - notifications - event then & set a new email notification (alert).
I have a standard rom & have set my email to be checked every 30 minutes & notify me of new emails with an alert. Ok the screen does not light up but if I am not near it to hear the alert the phone will of gone back to 'standby mode' anyway.
Hope this helps.

Hello!
I can confirm the problem and solution. My mails are fetched from gmail by an umts connection. It takes about 12 seconds when I start a manual Send/Receive until the mails are fetched. If I set the values below 10 I never get my mails since the diamond suspends to early.
Also I have noticed that when the vales are to low I sometimes get just the flashing ring. Apparently it takes another 2-3 seconds to start the audible alert and vibration.
These timeout values are used to terminate background processing which for example is required for mail fetching. If your diamond does not fetch mails when suspended or does not give you an audible notification try to increase the values. Currently I use 20 seconds.
hope this helps
Any news ?
trying this tonight
This works perfectly and solved this issue on my device, thanks.
Just a thankyou to gmvmg/captspaulding1000 as this has solved the exact same problem!
Hey all,
I am wondering if anyone here has found a possible way to set the send/receive intervals on the email to something lesser than 5 minutes? any kind of reg hack? I do know this will kill my battery but i'm only planning on having it set at certain times of the day..
any help would be great!
Nothing at all out there?
A few weeks ago I noticed my battery wouldn't last more than 6 hours. After a lot of troubleshooting, I found that gmail was the cause because it wouldn't stop syncing. Confirmed of course after deleting gmail for a couple of days.
But I really would like to keep the account on my phone. I set up that account again and for a few days it seemed fine, but my phone is constantly warm to the touch again and the battery just died... this time it hadn't even been 6 hours.
Has anyone else experienced this recently?
I'm on a lumia 1020 with black update.

What are your sync settings for your Gmail account? Since WP8, we couldn't set Gmail to sync "As Items Arrive", or push status. Could set as often as 15 minute only. Are there large files and/or attachments coming through?

I know, and I have it set to 15 minutes. I get a few photos every now and then but nothing out of the ordinary that should cause this. And as far as volume goes.... maybe 50 emails a day including the typical spam/promos that don't get filtered properly.

That's strange, on my ATIV S i don't occur that kind of problem, but i am not having my data turned on all the time. I turn it on just when i need to check something on internet or where there is no wi-fi spot around. And in email and accounts for Gmail i have the options "As They Arrived" to "Manualy", and ofcorse i chose "Manualy", I think we have to address this issue at Microsoft and Gmail together.
Push it to 30min for a day or two. See if that helps.
Didnt' make any changes. But it stopped doing it. So not gonnna keep digging, it was a hassle in the first place trying to figure out the cause over a couple of weeks. All I can say was deleting the account and adding it helped the first time. the 2nd time not sure. Oh well.
