The right ROM for me?! - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

Hi,
as Ive seen here a tons of roms, this is very nice but Ive not the time to install 20 rom to find out which one is the right for my jobs on the x1...
Tomoroww ill recieve my brand new mini eeepc ahhhmm Xperia
this things, beside using it as a phone , I would like to be able to:
email client
office
Surfing the web (real and no mobile versions)
watching Youtube
watching Adobe Flash (maybe Full?)
watching avi/dvix/xvid without to have them to convert
recording videos in best possible quality
listing to mp3
touch 3d / panel acces but not neccessary
this all on a wm6.5 in german?
wm 6.5 is not important, german would be nice but english as well, more i would like to have a fast wm version with the features above...
I remeber my odl days with xda neo, the original rom was 50% slower then a 6.1 for the web...
Can anyone suggest me a rom include this features?

I'd give it a go for a while before you flash a new ROM, see what you think about the stock ROM and its shortcomings, and then look for a ROM that fixes the shortcomings as you see fit.

Well, you're looking for pretty much the same things as everyone else
But if you want German language, you have the following options at this time
- Norti's Nx1i (6.1) superfast and stable but plain boring WM 6 Today Screen with only QuickMenu as UI gimmick
- AleFefe's very early 6.5 alpha and his more mature 6.1 TF3D - i can't say much about this one yet
- Chalid's cmex (TF3D) seems nice if you like his TF3D customization style
- udK's GER Rom (TF3D) excellent TF3D port, but the brandnew release from yesterday has a few issues - he will certainly fix soon
- YYYYY's Hv3 (TF3D) will be updated tonight - i keep coming back to this one since it's so smooth and stable. My favorite German ROM at this time.
Please note that almost no one has a leaked native German 6.5 yet - so if you insist on 6.5, you might want to wait a few more days/weeks.

I dont want to promote my Rom here, but......
You can try my Rom if you want.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503712
It's not 100% Ready for all of your Purposes.
There wont be Manila/TouchFlo. For now its only able to show you the whole Speed-Potential of WinMo 6.5 on the Xperia and you can play mp4 Movies smoothly on it. Further Versions of this Rom will include working YouTube, support for more movie formats like avi or mpg and many Multimedia Features like Ringtones, Wallpapers, Themes and Panels.
Maybe, if you have some time to wait, this Rom could be very close to perfect for you.

Thay exactly what Ill do, but from my old experiance with the xda neo I know that the original Roms are overloaded and slow...

I was looking for a dutch windows 6.5 rom but I couldn't find in xda. I think that this is the right place to ask, is there a clean (original, but not necessary) dutch windows mobile 6.5 rom without any extras?

nX1i Lightspeed vs Touch-it v4.0 Landscape vs Generic RA10

Hi everybody. I have a X1i that I have been using for 4 months or so. I really hated the stock rom. I lurked around this forum for a little while after reading about it somewhere (forgot where). Saw all these glorious roms that I was afraid to try cause I had no idea was HARD SPL was, until this morning when I flashed the TOUCH-IT 4.0 Landscape rom. I have a few questions if you guys can help me
Im fairly new here so I hope you can forgive my question if its been asked before. I searched back a dozen or so pages and couldnt find a similar thread.
Which ROM is most user friendly and stable so far? The nX1i Lightspeed or Touch-IT Landscape 4.0 or the Generic RA10 UK rom?
Currently I am using the Touch-IT Landscape by ITJE and i love it. Much better than the original rom my xperia was shipped with. Video is noticeably better.
However, if i do not need touch-flo, should I use the generic RA10 rom or nX1i rom instead?
Also, for youtube, i kept reading that I need to install the youtube.cab from blackstone. Where can I get this cab? I've tried installing previous youtube.cab but I guess they were the wrong version cause youtube doesnt work and the panel does not show up.
previously I tried cabs located

You can find the correct youtube.cab and the panel for it in my collection topic (in my signature), it should work fine on WWE roms installing the cab first and the panel after.
If im already using TOUCH-IT v4.0 Landscape, do I still need the WVGAFix?

WVGAFix is for such applications that cannot run in WVGA only in QVGA,VGA or other. You can change the screen's resolution on the X1 with this, so you might need this for some apps.
despite to itje's great work, new tflo3d isn't 100% stable and some crash happens. If you need a full and stable rom stay with itje' 3.5 or something else but don't choose a rom with new manila landscape, we have to wait a bit more before using it every day
Also, generic rom sucks, now we have many great rom from our cookers, choose one of them and be happy
Unfortunately, which is best is very hard to answer because everyone has different requirements and perceptions of what is good.
I have tried Jack's roms, itje's roms and now the nx1 rom.
For me the most important thing is my perception of responsiveness. I also want to have a highly customizable device and therefore tf3d is not ideal. Given this, the nx1 rom seems to be the best for me. All the roms seemed reasonably stable but I am still playing around with it so much that it is difficult to know whether any problems are caused by the software I am loading or the rom.
The best thing to do would be to read the comments people are leaving regarding the different roms and then if you like the sound of it, give one a go. Unfortunately this is a time consuming process.
d0z3y, can You paste here link to nx1 rom or itje ?
And question from me:
Is there available rom, that it is stable, very fast (graphic too) and have generic panels or it's nice to be a SPB panel or Manila HD panel ?
Please help me, bacause i've found difficulty with understanding every information about roms in topics. I dont speak english very well.
Can You answer me with simple english ?
TIA
You should just look in the route forum of this thread and you can find them all there, and many more.......

Here you will find all available Roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=477801 including links to nx1 rom or itje.
I can personally advice you to try all different roms. In 1 day you can flash about 4-5 Roms, play with them and understand which one is your best. This is the only way to really understand what you need.
However, up to me:
- jack v2.1 is the best "naked" Rom to start from. It has almost nothing, so you can fully customize it.
- Jack v2.3 has tf3d, so you get smooth graphic but it sometimes freeze.
- nx1 is like jackv2.1 but with some apps in, panels preloaded and stable/fast.
So, as you can see, and as everyone told you, you have to try them to find the most suitable. It's like a pair of shoes: you ahv eto try them to tell which one fits you.
[email protected] - thank You a lot ! Now i undestand it.
Can You tell me- is there a huge difference between new standard soft (R2A) and these roms like nx1 etc.? With stable, fast, and freeze/do not freeze?

My 2 cents:
Standard (Stock) ROM R2A is stable and acceptable.
Jack v2.1 is optimezed to be fast & stable but you have no programs.
Jack v2.3 & nx1 are stable in 90% of cases and faster than sotck ROM, with a nice fluid interface.
Those are my "pair of shoes". I use them, because I want a stable, fast, fully customizable ROM.
Now just ask yourself: what am I looking for? do I want to search and install programs on my own, or just find them inside a ROM? I want a cool interface? I want to try the coolest, latest ROM out here (most probably unstable) or go for a stable ROM?
Answer yourself, and then go into ervey ROM post (you can do it, you'll just have to visit 10 post...), read the first three post with the description of the ROM and choose the one that best fit your answers.
That's all I can do, I can not tell you install this or that.

Thanks! You help me a lot!
My xperia come to me in Friday, here- in Poland i pay for it a lot of many... Now i had a HTC Kaiser and it's OK to me (with HyperDragon soft)
I prefer programs include a ROM, because I dont know where to find all of theme in Web (maybe can You help me? MP3 trimmer, new core player etc etc).
And the last question. In standard rom (R2A) and tweaks from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459328
Will i have this problem?:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4_oONTZ3S0
I'll be pleasure to have a fast animation without "frame by frame" efect, fast and smoothly...
It is possible in standard rom with/without these tweaks or I must to change ROM (for ex. Jack v2.3) ?
P.S. When I find a rom with [SWE] its mean that this rom are with only Swedish language, not English?

Wow... never ever seen an Xperia that slow. Mine has never been, I am sure that you will never experience that slow frame by frame effect, unless you are running 5 programs simultaneously (man, even a Core Quad extreme would slow down if you load 10 programs at one time!!!)
P.S.: Jack v2.3 doesn't have Panel Manager as default. It has Touch Flow 3D (TF3d). However, you can always install panel manager on your own.

Yes, that's the international code. It represents the ROM language.

Hi again!
This effect appear without running any programs (i've seen other video on youtube, where somebody first had shown that any programs are running, and next gone panels and opened qwerty- the same effect, frame by frame... What is wrong with these xperia? In brand new does it work fine?
Unfortunatly i'm looking for ROM with Panel Manager and deuflat panels. And manila 3d too. So is there any rom like that? (of course in English, because my language will be in about 1month in oryginal SE ROM).
TIA for answer!
imho panels by default are crap slow and unresponsive, it consumes a lot of ram. New upcoming version promises opengl sdk and should be better, will see... For now I get rid of panels as soon as possible every time I flash

Can anyone cook me a rom? Be happy to buy a crate of beer for someone who can?

Ok......
I bought my X1 in Taiwan, with the intention of flashing to an english rom, because i obviously haven't a clue about chinese, and english langue ones are not available here.
I've been flashing custom roms for a while, both on the X1 and on my old Wallaby and Ef's but havent found anything that ever really suits my needs.
I like the windows 6.5 roms, but WVGAfix doesnt seem to work with any of the builds despite saying it does which kinda makes all 6.5 obsolete for me because of the amount of software that doesnt work with a WVGA screen.
Which leaves 6.1. I have tried loads different 6.1 builds, but find there are certain things that always stop me wanting to keep them.
So my question is can anyone build a rom that is almost a light rom, that just has a few essential elements built in. One that might last me a couple of months, or at least until Mobile 7 is released as opposed to reflashing every few days. I have looked into cooking, but simply dont have the time with work to really get good at it. It drives me nuts having to reinstall everything and sync contacts every time i flash a new rom.
If i was going to build my own ROM i would be looking for a lite and fast 6.1 build that has to me what i would consider some essential apps cooked in.
Manilla
USB popup
Advanced config
Radio
Audio Booster
Htorch
All the finger friendly features
Xperia R3A Camera to replace the HTC camera within manilla.
MSN Push mail (not messanger)
Specifically i would really like to avoid all the things that are updated regularly, such opera, youtube, facebook, google maps etc, and all the things which would seem to me to be a waste of space / speed, such as
MP3 trimmer, panel manager and additional panels.
Basically a stripped lite Rom, with manilla and its associated features.
I have tried flashing lite roms, and installing manilla, but its a real hastle, and never gets as good a results as some of the outstanding chefs here. I can't be alone in wanting a rom like this? so i guess my last question is....is anyone up for the task or am i about to get flamed for something i should be doing myself?

hee hee, I will recommend yrs and Itje's if he is asking for 6.5.
Oddly enough i have just tried Jacks 3.6 medium rom and its very fast.....i like it......keep testing for a few days and see how it goes, but looks real good so far!!
Jack - You're right in that i suppose with manilla in it isnt a light rom, but i would define anything that goes into a light rom as something that is necessary for the operation of the phone. As windows mobile 6.1 is BUTT ugly and finger unfriendly, i would classify manilla or equivalent as something that is pretty necessary!

I tend to think otherwise, you're right with wm6.1 being finger unfriendly. And there is lots of stuff (ie manila, spb mobile shell, eg) that can help you with that. And the choice is rather personal, something you would add later into a lite rom according to your needs.
(little remark, I'm not a manila fan so maybe a bit judged)

Recommendation needed: WM 6.5.1 Rom

Hi everyone, Not been here in awhile, lots has moved on
I am after a Windows Mobile 6.5.1 Rom for My T-Mobile Compact IV (Touch Diamond) but need a recommendation.
I am looking for a Rom that has the following features still in it:
> QuickGPS
> YouTube
> RSS Hub
> Voice Dialing
> Remote Desktop
> Facebook app would be nice
> Windows Live Messenger
> Opera
> Latest (or as close as poss) HTC TouchFlo3d
> Preferably the Manila theme
> Internet Sharing
> Also would like it to be as close as possible to the Official rom as in looks feel and functionaility (ie programs etc) but hopefully improved speed/stability
Oh and I will need to get My TomTom working on it so if that requires something that is part of the OS that can't be removed. Also whats this MTTY? Before I have just use hardspl to use roms is this an alternative???
+ I install Skype as well...
Or would you recommend win mo 7 rom? To be honest I would prob rather stick to 6.5.1 and goto 7 with a new device. Maybe the Diamond 2....
Must be stable as possible and english - I have done plenty of flashing roms on my phone as I have had a few problems with some but not touched 6.5 as of yet (or a 7 release)
Want to begin flashing Sunday, But the other reason for stable is I want the least risk of bricking my device as its the only phone I have and can't afford a new one :-( Waiting for my contract to run out next year....
Is anyone kind enough to be able to recommend a rom to me please?
you mean you want a rom with all those programs included
or just a rom which support those programs when installed?
and wm7 is not out yet not even in beta
Good Morning,
I am looking for those programs to be included in the rom.
Also I know Win7 not released but I thought there was some sort of rom here with win7 leaked or something etc.
Well, I think it's not yet the time for WM6.5.1, at least in Diamond.
I've already tried some rom, result is switching back immediately.
In my opinion, there're so many bugs in 6.5.1 that these cooked roms can't fit for a daily use.
I'm realy love 6.5.1, especially its taskbar. Hope Microsoft will soon release official WM6.5.1 which is more stable than those rom we have.
i've been using BSB 6.5.1D lately and it works like a charm
Yeh I saw the BSB one but wasn't sure about it, I quite like the look of this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563245
The one titled 'Windows Revolution Manila Edition'
however it has the RSS Hub and RemoteDesktop removed when I want both of them, actually I prob could live without them both. Has anyone thoughts or advice on this rom? Might give it ago later.
I have downloaded the one I linked to but The WWE Clean B version and I'll install the Manila and Remote Desktop, has anyone got a cab for the RSS Hub?
Why don't you try lite/native rom and install whatever you want ?
I'm running CDMA on Sprint, so I am not sure how the GSM version performs in comparison however, I personally have had great luck with EnergyROM, running NRG's October 25th build on 23081.
That being said, there are several people on the forums complaining about lockups on their devices while using this ROM, in particular, when accessing messaging through manila. I however, have yet to experience these problems.
The battery settings do need a bit tweaked though, I personally used the CAB file located at the bottom of this thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1077887&postcount=6356.
Looking over what you were looking for in a ROM, this does contain all of those, except voice command, which he does have a link for on his ROM page (At least, once again, for the CDMA diamond build)
It might be worth looking into, as the build and presentation of NRG's ROMs do feel very professional. But in the end, it comes down to playing around with various ROMs to see what works, and what dosn't.
Hope I helped!
Edit : His thread over here hasn't been updated since the Sept 20th build (Which had issues), the thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517300
However, the hotfile link for his downloads from that thread, ( http://hotfile.com/list/93325/99ab7ab ) does appear to have the newer Oct 25th build on it. Once again, I recommend trying it out, but it isn't for everyone. When it comes to ROM's, everyone has their own taste and preference, it would seem.

Looking for a specific sort of ROM...

Searching appears to have failed me, but I'm looking for a up to date, optimized (recent drivers etc), Manila/Sense LACKING 6.1 ROM for the Xperia.
Could anyone provide some guidance with that? I can't really find any
EDIT: To clarify, thats a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM without manila or sense UI
Maybe you should look at the forum? Searching specific terms won't give any good results back.. These roms basically plague the forum, i dont know how you could not find ANY

Do you want X1 panel manager installed? Any X1 panels?
Will post a link here if I get it cooked...

the stock roms aren't too bad, but i can only think of two 6.1 roms without manilla/ sense;
norti nx1i 1.04

i've used this and can recommend it
bxsteez lite 1.05
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475083
otherwise, as mentioned it could be worth trying some of the established 6.1 touchflo roms and just disable touchflo. 'pctech4u' and 'touch x' come to mind. check out the rom library, ther might be more
I am on an own-cooked ROM which I can upload for you, or anybody else.
WM6.1 build 21051, no manila, no panels, some little apps that are useful for me and some selected HTC staff like enlarge start menu, volume control, FM-radio etc
I am using it for the last 2 months and it's very fast and stable. Perfect for SPB MS users.
I cannot provide any support though. No much time. Normally you won't need any.

As everyone here says, hardspl your device first and flash at your own risk.

6.5 Rom

Hi to everyone and merry cristmas (to whoever believes in them )!!
I am about to flash a new 6.5 rom but I can't decide which. Can you suggest me one? I don't really mind if it has touchflo imported or not. I just want a nice and stable 6.5 rom. Which one is your favourite?
Christians rom for the last few days and it seems very stable (compared to the standard 6.1 r3a)
Its based on wm 6.5.3 which has the finger friendly drop down task menu and the windows button moved to the bottom.
Means I hardly use the stylus now and I havent had to install lots of third party apps to achieve it!
Heres the link ... Christian's Rom's
(I'm using the full WWE version)
Another one I tried was and earlier build of 6.5 and also seemed very stable, but I only used it for a few days before upgrading again
Windows Mobile 6.5.0 PURE upgrade
(Both of these roms have been done specifically for the xperia)
Hope this is of some help ... there's a lot of choice out there

Thanks man! I agree, too many choices out there, especially for someone like me with not enough time to try them all.
i've tried almost all roms out there. From the 6.5.1 and 6.5.3 versions I'll choose Agent's valkyrie rom. but the bottom taskbar is over some applications. if you want full compatibility you should try a clean WM 6.5 rom. I like UNOFF series , infinity or 1.5.
Merry Christmas!

Merry Cristmas (a bit late..)! Valkyrie rom is probably the one that I will try. Thanx
mmm not sure this belongs here but since the thread already exists I may as well use it too.
First of all, let me just state that I have never flashed a rom before therefore I m a complete newbie. However, recently, I do feel like I m not making the most of my phone so I think I m ready for an update.
I would like to have a 6.5 rom that also has the new (current) touch hd panel (with landscape mode). Furthermore, I would quite like to have some of the X2 stuff (panel manager, new media panel). I would prefer a light 6.5 version that works reliably rather than a lot of fancy software.
Can somebody recommend me a rom? Moreover, what is the current status of these roms. Does everything work or do they tend to crash a lot or have bugs? I m quite happy with my x1 the way it works at the moment and it hasnt crashed in months and I rather keep it this way.
Looking forward to your replies guys

First of all is very simple to flash a rom. I recommend you using the PC method. Keep in mind that flashing your phone will erase all your data, so is adviceable to back-up your data (search for PIM back-up). First of all you will have to hard-spl your phone (one for all ROMs you will flash), and then flash you custom ROM.
The HTC Leo doesn't support landscape yet(not official). There is a guy in ROM section of xperia that says that he have an official landscape ROM for LEO. So you must wait a couple of days for it to be released (I assume that it will be buggy for a first release, so if you will wait 1-2 months the rom should have just a few bugs).
For the X2 stuff is better to wait for the phone to be officialy launched, because all the stuff that is uploaded now isn't fully working.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!
