I need help!!

I am trying to downgrade my RC30 to RC29, so I can root my G1. Well, I copt DREAIMG.nbh to my SD card, but when I go to boot my phone, I get a multi colored screen that stays there, and it says no image found.
Did T-Mobile find a way to block the root capabilities, or am I bieng an idiot.
Please help.

see thats the thing, I have gone through android-dls and followed the destructions to a T, but I get red/green/blue/white screen that has a white bar with serial0 in it.
I talked to one of the reps @ T Mobile that told be about rooting when I bought the phone on Sat, and now his isnt working......

Here's what you need

rename this file DREAMIMG.nbh and place it on your sdcard root (the card may repeat may need reformatted -mine didn't but a friends did so try it without first).
then reboot with the camera button depressed, you should get the coloured lines, it should recognise the image. if this doesn't happen reformat your sdcard as fat32 (this is easily done from windows mac or linux) place the image on the sdcard root as above and try again.
At last count this has not been fixed! but most likely will be with the new rc33 roll out!

unfortunately, it still is not recognizing the img, the card has been reformatted to FAT32, and still no avail. The DREAMIMG.nbh is the only file on the SD card

i am on build tc4-rc30, if that helps, doubt it, but I am at a loss as to what to do. I upgraded from the Shadow, and I miss so many of the features, dont really miss WM, but oh well

Did you check the MD5 of the file you downloaded?
Should be: 53840b90a0fe1bfab19fab8ef8fb9724

Did you put DREAIMG.NBH or DREAIMG.nbh? its all caps try that or the file might be corrupted try downloading it again

oh yeah and its DREAIMG not DREAMIMG (sorry for the second post)

Yes it is MD5 53840b90a0fe1bfab19fab8ef8fb9724 and I had it named both DREAIMG and DREAMIMG

I have reformatted the card again, and still, when I reboot with the camera button held, a quick white screen flashes and I can barely see that it says no image found, then back to the multicolored screen, with a white bar, with serial 0 in it. I can soft reset it, but nothing.....

umm try downloading a different file the first time i did i got a update failed message so i just got another one and it worked

well i tried it on mine right now just for fun lol and it worked so you should be ok just make sure its in the root of the sd card and not in any type of folder

still the same ****. I dont know what else to do

it is the ONLY file on the sd card. No folders. 1GB card

umm the i dunno i got the message you said when i tried it with a blank sd card it should show that you have it try the rc 30

Just need some help...Dreaimg.nbh fail

yes ive searched. yes ive tried alot of things. now that thats out the way id be grateful for any help on the topic. i dowloaded a few dreaimg files from xda as wll as androidandme.com rooting guide. none work. i tried to format my card again to load the image back on the sd card and try again and no luck my comp wont even read my sd card now. i have an 8gb and i hope its not fully fried but i can get another card if needed. my main thing is i was going from rc-33 back to 29 in order to root the phone and i get the dreaimg.nbh fail. i havent had a phone for about 3 days. if there is anyone out there to help ill take it. thanks in advanced.

what steps are you doing? explain step by step what you are doing....

Format your card to be Fat32 and make sure that you do not use a card reader. Works like a charm. The main thing is that your card needs to be Fat32.
I tried using a card reader but would not read then I formatted thru the phone and worked and flashed

step by step
i formatted the card while it was in my phone to FAT32.
i downloaded the image to get my phone back down to rc29 in order to root.
directly from my phones browser i downloaded http://www.androidactivity.com/root/root.apk over wifi
installed the root.apk file
powered off my phone then turned it back on by holding cam button and power.
ressed power to run image then got FAIL.
i followed the instructions from here:

after it failed there was no way for me to mount my phone so i got a sd card reader, plugged that in and then went to apply the file manually. i deleted the old file then put the new one on and it still didnt work so i decided to format the card to fat32 again and then try to put the fileback on. now the card cannot be read.

i read in the middle of that page you linked to that "Update: Some users have reported the DREAIMG.nbh file gets corrupted when downloading over 3G/Edge. To avoid this just download the file to your PC and then copy it to the SD card." -
is this what you did? i see you downloaded it from your phone- maybe its the phone that corrupts it- DL it from your PC and transfer apk over from there.
looks like a nice app though.....

going to another g1 now so i guess i will give it another try and see wat happens. i am also going to get another 8gb card so if there is a better instructions please post em

When unrooting, bootloader is saying "no image found"...

I am following these instructions to bring my phone back to stock, before I send it in for a replacement (Alt key isn't working):
1. get the original SPL for your phone, go to the SPL thread at the top
2. rename it to update.zip and flash it to your phone
3. download the DREAIMG.nbh from the thread where you rooted your phone
4. place DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your SD card and start phone in bootloader(camera+power)
5. hit power to start the update DO NOT INTERRUPT!! i can not stress this enough
6. hit action(trackball down) and your phone will reboot
7. YOU NOW HAVE STOCK FIRMWARE, it will update on it's own in a little bit
I downloaded G1OrigBootloader_nocheck.zip, copied it to my SD card, renamed it to "update.zip", turned the phone off, powered up holding HOME and POWER and then pressed ALT+W for wipe and then ALT+S to apply the update. So far, so good.
Then I deleted update.zip from the SD card and moved DREAIMG.nbh onto it. I powered off the phone, then pressed the camera button and power. It has the white screen with the blue text "Loading..." and then the screen briefly flashes with "No image file!" before going to the bootloader screen.
Help! I don't know what to do next. Many thanks!
ETA: Should I install the DREAIMG.nbh *before* installing the stock SPL?
ETA 2: I formatted my SD Card just for grins (I could swear I had done that before) and now it's working fine. So. For anyone else who gets the No Image File error, try formatting your SD Card and then transferring files. Also, I re-downloaded the DREAIMG.nbh file so it might've even been that which fixed it. At any rate, I no longer need assistance and I don't know how to delete a post. I'm assuming you can't.

In case anyone else comes across this thread while having this problem...
I had the same problem with my Rhodium. The problem disappeared when I switched from formatting that particular SD card with FAT to FAT32.
So, try FAT32 and see if that helps!

Yup^ android cant read fat partitions.
Also why do you want to unroot?

I was helping a friend unroot for a warranty return and I encountered this problem. While I realized that it was a simple, and some what dumb typograpghical error in my case. Have you checked, and I mean really checked the filename? I realized that I had a space in between the "G" and the "." (DREAIMG .nbh, rather than DREAIMG.nbh) I have the RC29 and RC30 .nbh images backed up on my home computer for just such purposes and I have them labeled accordingly (example: DREAIMG RC29.nbh). So when I went use it, I copied the file, edited the name, and forgot to take the space out. It therefore displayed no image for me as well. Just something simple to check.

Phone keeps disconnecting in mass storage mode

hi guys this is my first post on this forum although i have been browsing around for a few months. my problem is that whenever i connect my phone to my pc and mount it, the computer recognises it but whenever i try to add files to the SD card or format it, the phone disconnects and i have to mount it again. once i have mounted it, the whole process starts all over again and now im stuck in a position where i cant do anything with it.
has anyone had his problem before and is there a way to fix it or is my SD card faulty? thanks in advance.

Are you rooted? If so, what rom are you on? Just give us some specs on what you got.

no im not rooted, im on the oem android software. i was just about to format my SD card so i could start rooting it.

Is it the factory sd card? Do you got another card to try out? If not, try to format the card in the phone and then try it again to see if it still does the same thing.

yeah its a factory SD Card. itried formating it from the phone and now i can add files to the card but it still disconnects whenever i try to format it. is the card protected or something?

You cannot format it through the USB by mounting it

ok how do i do it then? should i just use a card reader? or is there another way to do it by using the phone? also thought i would add that it has started doing it when adding files to the card again.

You can put it in a card reader if you have one. I would boot into ubuntu and do it that way, also if you are in ubuntu you can do it through your phone.

The phone has an option too. Go to
Settings > SD and storage > Format Card
Since your stock G1, the other phone partitioning/formatting isnt available

ok thanks guys i formatted the SD crad uising the options on the phone, which now leaves me to my next problem. i have download the Rc7 file and placed it on he root of the card but i when i power on the phone holding down the camera phone it doesnt show the grey screen with the flashing options, it jus shows the screen which tells me the board type etc. am i doing something wrong? sorry for all the questions.

it doesnt have flashing options
press the power button (not hold, just press) and it should say that its flashing the image.
(look in the center of the screen, there should be a line of text that says something)
DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR PHONE TILL ITS DONE FLASHING

Btw just chiming in case it comes up as it did in the past. If you use Swapper app and have a swapfile image located in the fat32 area, it would cause DC issues or not connect right, back then it never hit me that the swapfile was being torn away from a system that was looking for it, which then gave me corrupt sd errors. (Granted it wasnt) but yea, just another thing to look out for to those using a image file still for swap.
Also how did your flashing go?

Can we flash from an sd card on the Blackstone?

I looked and can not find things mentioning via sd card only via PC. If I am wrong, I am sorry but I didn't find it. Could you attach a link to where it mentions it? What do I name the .nbh?

Yes you can, the image needs to be called BLACIMG.NBH

and you need hspl on youre phone and the mem formatted to fat 32:-o

I just received it today from ebay, does this seem to be already for me to flash it?
It has 6.1 installed
Bootloader screen says

Bootloader says "No Image File"
I have the BLACIMG.nbh file on my 1GB card and it's not loading it. I have done it the same way on my HTC Jade multiple times with the same sd card.
I TRIED WITH ANOTHER ROM AND IT WORKED JUST FINE. I don't know what was wrong with the other one but Thanks for everyone's help.

I'm afraid you're not following the right procedure. This should do the job.
1. Copy BLACIMG.NBH into the root dir of your Storage Card.
2. Be sure to have at least 30% of charge.
3. Turn off your device . Fully power the device off by long press of power key.
4. Go to bootloader mode. Push and hold Vol Down + press Power button.
5. As soon as presented the message, push Power button to start flashing or Volume Down button to cancel.
6. The whole procedure will take about 3 minutes. After you finish and see the relative message, soft reset your device, you are ready.
Make sure you formatted your sd-card.
To enter Bootloader, starting from powered off phone, hold down volumebutton and briefly press powerbutton.
You can also always use the "search" funtion on the forum startpage. Topbar (brown) on the right side.
It's recommendable to hardreset your device after flashing.
Good luck.

I got it to work just fine I used another ROM and it worked just fine. I have also had success with my JADE with no problem. I edited the post before stating what I did to get it to load successfully. Thank You for the assistance though, that is a easy step by step tutorial of how to perform the flash from sd.

I got a kingston card (8gb) it works perfect but for some reason I cant flash from there... I use my backup 2gb scandisk

you're right, this trick will not work with SD-HC cards, only "normal" SD-Cards will do the job

I have a 16 gb MicroSd-HC (Sandisk) and regularly flash blacimg.nbh files from this card. Never had any problems. My phone has hardspl and is secuurity unlocked courtesy Olipro
