If you have some random lockups when going out of sleep mode or hibernate, or if your system ask to format your sd card when you insert it, if you have wifi disconections whithout moving, here is a possible solution:
You probably formated your card once with an operating system or a camera
Doing so destroys the SD format. You can trow your sd and buy a new one...
No just kidding. Just backup your data, and format using the attached tool. This is the panasonic tool for formating sd card.
Your sd is saved, as your soul ;-)
What could be wrong? I have ntfs format on my sdhc 16gb

if your computer never locks, nothing is wrong.
I'd give it a go, but my Shift doesn't even see the SD drive! I'll try formatting on another computer tomorrow and let you know if it works
I have only one problem maybe you know how to solve it,
Vista-Seven reads my 16gb sdhc but not Xp (I understand it is SD-wifi driver related, before installing wifi card works ok..)
maybe xp can't get your ntfs formating on sd card. I never used xp on shift.
This is a great coincedence - I had been using my SD card with 2Gb ready boost formatted with ntfs without any problems for months on my Vista Shift.
One week ago, I reformatted the same SD card to FAT32 and set it to 4Gb ready boost, and since then I had hangs when attempting to sleep\hybernate/shut-down/wake-up.
I suspected that this new problem was related to the SD readyboost and had removed my SD card from my shift since yesterday and noted that there were no more hangs.
So your post is very timely!! I was going to start investigating different SD formatting methods to get readyboost behaving propperly again, but now I can just use your tool
I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks thaihugo!
Updated:
Bad news about your formatter Thaihugo, I formatted my SD card using this formatter program, which formatted it with FAT32. I chose appox. 4 Gb as the readyboost size (the size that vista recommended).
The sleep hangs still occur repeatably when and only when this readyboost SD card is in my Shift.
So I reformatted using the Shift Vista right-click format, formatted as ntfs, 4096 allocation size and approx 4gb of readyboost cache, and the hanging problem has vanished.
So I recommend vistas own format, with ntfs option chosen. ntfs aparently gives better performance too.

I guess this is the best option for readyboost. The SD card still take time to be reconized, so probably the system hang waiting for it. My solution worked for me as I don't have readyboost. I guess formating to NTFS is another option, except you loose compatibility with digital camera.
The good news is.... that formatter now makes my two Micro SD (in SD adapter) work in my work laptop which they never did before
The bad new is.... the Shift just doesn't even admit they are there although sometimes when you eject, it comes up with the "you need to format" error message - but never when they are in.
And yes, obviously I had to format them in another way as the Shift won't recognise them (technically I did it on the Shift with the cards in a USB reader..)
Could it be that my SD drive is just broken? I don't have any smaller capacity SD cards to try but basically since Win98 and Win7 installs it hasn't worked although was fine in Vista - which I refuse to go back to out of principle!

On my computer it's fine. I just want to listen to my music. Damaged or not.
What causes Damaged SD cards?
Try to reformat it and see if it works. There are several things that can cause a card to go bad.
I have and just spent countless hours getting music on the card and I downloaded an .apk when I got error (Installed and worked fine) then just got error.
How to safe me from these from happening again?
All my apps are gone due to app2sd bummer

Just do what you always prolly do. Just make sure to unmount before you disconnect. Sometimes the cards can just go bad. Just make sure to get a name brand card and get a class 6 (you don't have to). It was prolly just a fluke.
Sandisk 8gb class 2 I do unmount error for past 3 months. Know I can't get back my apps2sd to rework after I did a format.
How did you format it? In the phone from UI? If so then it erased your ext partition.
Look in HERE for good guide on how to check what partitions do you have and to format and repartition.
Good luck
If your running swapper, you need to turn it off before mounting. Thats the main cause if its not actually damaged.
I had that happen to me when I tried using Apps 2 SD 2. It said it corrupted my SD, and when ever I tried to unmount from the PC, it would freeze up. I just backed it up, deleted all my partitions, reformated and made new ones. What ever A2SD you're using, make sure you follow tuts correctly.
If you use AppsToSD to partition your card and you get an error saying that your SD card is corrupted or damaged, ignore it. Take out the card, format the Fat32 partition on your PC (a full format, not quick erase). When it's done, both the Fat32 and ext2 partitions will be there. I have experienced that problem several times.
Also, you can do adb to get the files off the ext2 partition before you use the phone to remove the partition and re-format the card.
Well guess what all I did was turn off my phone overnight and charge it. This morning turned back on got the same good message after spending 5 hours putting music onto my card. So this time I am doing a full format of the card and just using fat32 nothing more no apps2sd I think that may be my problem. Cause when using it I don't get the option to safe remove the sd card in SD card settings.
My 2-yr old 8gig Sandisk Class 2 SDHC suddenly went kaput and won't be detected by my Topaz.
This sd card has been previously fat32-formatted and worked for 2 yrs.
Lately, before flashing a cooked ROM, I ran the mtty1.42 if that matters
Now, my phone won't even detect another sdhc (4gig Sandisk, Class 6) which is working fine on my wife's Raphael and/or my PC.
The error message the defunct 8gig SD card gives when connected via card reader to my XP sp2 machine is:
Exception Processing Message c0000013
Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7 c 75b6bf7c
[Cancel] [Try Again] [Continue]
You can't format something that is undetected, right? Any clue, please? Thanks.

Yea that happens my 1yr 8Gb class 6 dies a while ago but that was from my using it for readyboost and eboostr(unrelated). Now i got this 4gb class 2 thats pretty fast If you had swapper then i think the card could be damaged, try formatting that sd card in recovery mode.
there is a way to reformat the card if its not physically damaged but it seems like yours is. I dont rmr the commands to do it in gparted, butits possible
I have AT&T Tilt with Sakajati's HyperDragon IV Windows Mobile 6.1 OS ROM, I also have this 8 GB micro SD card, which has around 3.5 GB of data, but for some reason I am not able to write on it any more. When ever I tried to format it I get this message which says " The card is write protected" I don't remember putting any password or anything. I can read data from that card on any computer or phone, but can write anymore data on the card. I can't delete anything from the card either.
Can someone suggest what could be wrong with the card and how can I unlock it?
I have tried low level format also, the format completes without any error, but when see in file explorer all the files are still there. If I try to format from SD formatter, I get error "The memory card is write protected", windows format doesn't give any error, just runs and in the end says "Windows can't comeplte the format". Card is working file and have no problem in reading the data it has, just can't write new one ot delete old one.
This is very weird problem... any help/comment is good.
Not sure if this will help....
I've had very similar issues over time...
Because of high TomTom & Music Use.
Both are loaded and work off my SD Card (6 GB worth)
What I finally found that worked for me, was to get a 2nd card and backing up my SD card to my Desktop PC, so later I could transfer to the 2nd SD Card when needed.
Then I do a Complete Format [Full FAT32 Format] of the old SD Card, via the Mini SD adapter on my Desktop PC.
I found that formating within the phone doesn't always work...
If this is not the case I can think of 2 other reasons for potential problems..
~Some ROM's require the removal of SIM & SD Cards when installing?
~If you were using an adapter formating the SD Card and it was not set to write mode?
Best of Luck!
JAC,
Thanks for your reply, but I have already tried FAT32 formatting using micro sd card, but as I said before, but it errored out.I even tried low level format, but didn't work. There is no locking swithc or anythign in micro SD card, not sure how the data can be locked. If it was ecrypted I was not able to read data on other devices. So what happened? Any help!!!
Like everything else, sometimes things just wear out, break or are just low quality to begin with. If you can read it on other devices, then transfer it and get a new card.
There is also a trick used by nefarious suppliers that takes a 4GB (or any size chip) and format it in a way that it appears as a larger chip. Then when you go to write to it the whole thing goes crazy.
This is why I recommend using reputable resellers and buying good quality Name Brand Chips, Like Sandisk or Kingston.
So I got myself a class 10 MicroSD from newegg from the company called Patriot (reviews for all their products say its a good company)
NewEgg page with item
In any case I figured 99$ isnt too bad. So I got the memory card today and sure enough computer has no issues reading it.Speeds are great and no bad reads or writes
So Im trying to set it up with ext3 etc and nothing seems to be working. So in any case I reformatted everything to fat32 on my PC and the phone isn't even detecting the memory card.
I was under the impression 32GB microsd should be ok. I hope this isnt a compatibility issue. Anyone else have thoughts in this?
Tried partition magic, default disk management application on xp also tried MiniTool Partition Wizard and no luck. At this point I just want the phone to detect the memory card to I can format it from the phone and then do the ext3 either from CW or Amon
Anyone? Is changing the drive letter on a computer going to change anything?
I heard that FAT32 does not support 32GB partition very well.. also some card readers have problem with reading a 32GB shdc card.
Try to make a 10GB Fat32 partition on your SD card and leave remaining space free, see if your phone can use it.

Thanks ill give it a try but no point in a 32gig card if cant use most of it on the phone. Dont need most of the card as ext3 lol
Working fine here. I used Acronis True Image to clone the card the first go around, but didn't like how it setup the card. Then used Acronis Disk Director to reconfigure a 31gb FAT & 1gb ext3. You can use Amon_RA Recovery to setup the card too. I did do that too, but I already have Disk Director to give me the gui view of what's going on.
Cannot get EXT3 partition to work on Desire
I'm also having issues getting the ext3 partition of the Kingston 32GB micro sdhc card to work with my desire.
I used GParted to create a large fat32 partition and also created a 1GB ext3 partition, but when i reboot the handset i get an error meesage on the desire telling me that the sd card is damaged and that i need to format. When i go back into GParted the FAT32 partition looks healthy but ext3 partition comes up as unallocated.
This method has worked fine with an 2 and 8GB micro sd but it seems to have issues when using the 32GB.
I've also tried using rom manager to create a 512MB ext3 partition but that just causes the phone to sit on on the boot up screen.
If anyone is experiencing the same/similar problem, please let me know how you tackled it.
Try to use Amon_RA's recovery and reformat your SD card with it.
Gparted seems to be the best tool to use.
Hi,
Same problem with a Patriot MicroSD 32GB Class10.
Attempt to partition MicroSD with :
-Gparted
-Minitool Partition Wizard Home
-CWM (HD2)
Partitions are always destroyed or strange modified so Android can't read FAT32 partition.
No problems with a Sandisk 32GB Class 2.
Ok i worked out what this issue was.
Unfortunantly i've purchased a counterfeit Kingston MicroSD.
Kingston confirmed that it was a fake after i send them pics so that explains everything.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
The reviews seem mixed on the Patriot

Had this last night but try formatting the SD card within your nook. I had an SD card with 1 gig image and was having the same problem.
Just to clarify. Use the format options within the nook. Sorry not in front of Nook at the moment.

I read that on CM7 on eMMC when doing that it formats the boot on the nook not the sd card, so did you do this or just think its the way to do it. THanks
Use this program, the free edition:
EASEUS Partition Manager
Windows can only see the first partition on your card. There are probably 4 partitions left from your emmc install. Plug your microSD card into your computer and launch EASEUS. You should see the driver letter assigned to your microSD card and 3 other unassigned partitions on your card. Right click on each of those partitions and delete them. Then either resize the primary partition Windows can see to the full size of the card, or delete that partition, then create a primary partition on the card that uses the full card size. You should now have your full capacity back.

No, I actually did the format using CM7 on my Nook Color. Bit hazy on the exact details, but if you look at the SD storage section in the Settings you should see the different SD cards and will show which to format. I had used my 8 gig SD card as a 120 meg SD boot with CWM so this SD card kept showing available space of about 120 meg (so I chose this to format).
'Should' be fairly obvious but can understand your hesitation.
FYI, I tried Easues Partition on my Windows 7 64 bit machine but did not recognize. Might be worth trying XP or Linux if you have but I would test the above option (Backup everything if concerned). I had just flashed CM7 to my nook so wasn't too bothered if I lost anything.
I can check when I get home.

Windows only sees one primary partition, so you have to use a partition manager to delete the other primary partitions. MiniTool Partition Wizard claims to work in all versions of Windows, I only have 32 bit Vista. Or you could use Linux in a virtual machine such as Vmware, it's free for home use.

I use SD Formatter, works great
I have bought Sandisk microSDXC 64GB class 10 UHS1. When I put it in my computer using USB2.0 Kingston Mobile Reader it could not recognise it. I removed it and I placed it in my Galaxy Note. I went into clockworkmod 6.19 (Non Touch) and I partitioned the card with 2GB or 4GB (I do not remember exactly!!!) and Swap size 256k. When my phone restarted, the phone did not recognize the card. Therefore, I went through the internet to find a solution. I found the program "EaseUS Partition Master 9.1.1 Home Edition" and reformatted the card with FAT32 and cluster size 32KB. When it finally finished, it gave me the size 27.46GB!! I reformatted through SD Formatter 3.0 hoping that the partition used through Clockworkmod messed up the actual size of the card. I successfully re-formatted the card, however the size remained the same. I know that the size of a microSDHC card 32GB is around 29GB, therefore it does not explain size 27.46GB.
My question now, if there is an answer!!! Is the card faulty or did Clockworkmod messed with the card?
Please advise if possible!
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, because I think this a very strange story!

Have you tried formatting the card with your phone?

How sure you are that your Kingston reader is SDXC compatible? If it's not, it can be that your card is damaged now and can't be fixed (I had that issue). Second thing you should have format the card using some exFAT compatible ROM (for example XLS7 or XLSA) in storage section of the phone, not in CWM.
You should also check if there isn't any other partitions on the card using EaseUS Partition Master. I would delete all partitions on the card and then format using exFAT. But it would work only if the card isn't already damaged by incompatible reader.
If you search abit you will find that sdxc cards used with sdhc reader can be damaged. google it you will find it.

Format it with the phone. That usually gets it.
