A humble request to app developers - G1 Apps and Games

Could you please stop putting the word "droid" into the name of your apps? I mean come on! You guys are coming up with the most ingenious idea for the software, and then fall short with naming it. Here's the hard evidence: http://www.cyrket.com/search?q=droid We get it, it's on the Android Market, so it's gotta be for android. So please, for the love of Linus Torvalds, make up an original name!
Hope everyone realizes that this thread is written as joke, and not to be taken seriously. We all appreciate the devs' hard work and dedication to the Android OS and devices it lives on.

Why can't we use droid? lol, seems pretty original to me (in the context of the market). I don't see two transdroids, or mutliple piggybank droids. If it bugs you that much, just don't open the market anymore. lol

I kind of agree. To me its the same as as video games coming out being called Playstation Shooter, XBox Fighter, Nintendo RPG. It tells you what its for and sticks it to the platform. I understand that devs are developing for the Android but there are other platforms, whether you like them or not and especially those apps that are worth some money, it would be nice to see good work spread across the board. Having a name that would fit better on all platforms would be better imo. That or you recreate it with a new name for the new platform but then it becomes less recognizable. Everyone knows what God of War is and when they hear it they think one thing. But who would think Bank of America if they named it Bankpod and Bankdroid?
(just my thoughts so don't go getting all upset about it)

what about the "A"?
I'm still waiting for a golf game named AHole. What about Hemherrdroid? I suppose they could be offered as a package, too.
I'm torn. I lke concise app names, I like them to say what they do, and I guess it's good to know what platform. Can you do all those at once?

To be honest, I don't think "the best article" on anything "to date" will ever appear on a blogspot site.

What spelling mistakes? You dont even know english and your talking about me. Stupid mofo hahahaha
No need to throw insults about like that
EDIT: Just read it. The ultimate truth? No. I see A LOT of 'good' software that has been pirated, that has come from big developers and the little guy just starting out. They crack for fun/addiction/because they think they are rebels etc, whatever the reason they will do it because THEY CAN, not because there are ethics involved. Seriously, which major company went "Hey guys, our software got pirated on the first day and we didn't make any money from it, let's release something truly innovative so they won't pirate it." Sorry, that is NOT the 'ultimate truth'.
What a pointless article (IMO).
this is bull ****. there are lots of apps cracked that cost only like $10 made by some developer that only has this tiny simple but cool app that most find usefull. So this developer gets 1000 apps sold over 1.000.000 cracked downloads.
Now lets just steel that new Toyota car because it's only a little design change from the last model and some minor changes to the breaks system.

1) If you read the whole summary of the truth about piracy Iam not saying piracy is good on a whole level. But if there was no piracy , the games made would be old rehashed garbage. Look at Gameloft games for windows mobile. They basically make the same game over and over with different graphics. That to me is theft selling us non-sense with pretty package.
I know people from both sides of this war. Developers from xda-developers,ppc geeks, and pirates like ppcwarez . Iam not going to sit here and say lets take the developers side on all issues. Thats non-sense , Iam a freeware developer myself , with commercial software too. One-sided thinking will just continue the war. I do support the independent developers , for they make truely innovative original software.
As far as the insult...the man called me out 1st...I just responded.

I immediately think that you're trying to get traffic to your own website rather than discuss the matter here. So rather than go there and read it, I'll discuss it here at XDA, where I'd rather keep my attention and loyalty.
Any law that basically says making a mixed tape for someone else is illegal is complete garbage and media companies can take it and shove it up their a**.
Any law that says I cannot "loan" a movie to someone else, even a complete stranger, and that I have to be responsible for the actions of the person I loaned it to is complete garbage and media companies can take it and shove it up their a**.
Any law that says I'm responsible for what happens to something I loaned someone else is complete garbage and media companies can take that law and shove it up their a**.
Any law that tells me what I can or cannot do with my own property is complete garbage and media companies can take it and shove it up their a**.
Stop enforcing 100-year-old copyright law for media medium that doesn't fit into the law.

Sorry, but that makes no sense whatsoever. By the same reasoning, stealing televisions should force the manufacturers to make better ones. That is simply wrong.
Not to offend, but to be clear, I find your arguments blinkered and naive. Piracy has very little to do with sticking it to big companies. 99% of the time it's about getting something for free.

I agree. It's not about sticking it to big companies. It should be about revolution with digital media and laws, and electronic freedom.
fairness
So judging by the comments so far , both of you believe hacking and cracking software only hurt companies and developers. Also you believe is there was no more software pirates, that would benefit the consumer. The major companies say the same , cracked software leads to high priced games.
1)False= cracked software does not lead to high priced games. I remember super nintendo was charging $40-$60 a game. So that is false statement.
2)Facted= Cracked and pirated software has been around since early 80's,90's . People were happy around that time period with quality of thier software, so people didnt look for free downloads or cracked software. This isnt just about games Iam including the industry as a whole. This includes movies, music, and video games.
Opinion= I believe once those 3 industries started to make rehashed and low quality products, people started looking toward pirated software. If this isnt true, then this issue would have come up a long time ago.
Now to rorymeadows , no Iam not a teen and I dont sound or act like one.
I have absolutely no idea how you got any of what you said from my post, but you're wrong. That's not what I'm saying at all. You're just assuming things.
I wonder what this post will be about!
Incidentally, you should look at the technological and social changes that have taken place over the last 30 years and factor that into your opinions. Piracy is a bigger issue now simply because it's in your face, in your living room, on the internet and on your PC. 30 years ago it was kids copying tapes with games on them, but no mass forums to make it publicly available. Music was copied, but it was time consuming so not done as quickly as it is today - the same goes for movies (tape-to-tape VHS recorders for example). Times have changed, but the essence of piracy hasn't. Lots of people like stuff that costs nothing. That is the only fact you can state.
Well there's another thing going on, too.
I was browsing the Microsoft Mobile Marketplace last night. One of the programs I found up there was Resco Photo Manager. $60. $60!!!!!!! For THAT?!?!?! A program that I'd probably use 10 times a year is $60??!?!?!?!
I used to work at the college dining hall back in undergrad. People used to steal and steal, pocking pop-tarts, walking out with drinks and subs without paying. It drove the price up more. Yes, stealing jumps the overhead and makes things costlier. But did that stop the stealing? No, in fact, it made it much worse.
johncmolyneux and rorytmeadows both are correct.
/end thread.

[APP-WP7] iPooey -[R]- 4/6/11 -[V]- 1.1 -[U]- 4/19/11

Name: iPooey
Trick your friends! Tell them you get a new prototype iPhone hardware, or you installed iOS on your WindowsPhone. Looks like iOS interface, but when they click it, a cartoon poo appears where they clicked and it plays a nasty fart sound! Use it to annoy those other snobby stuck-up iPhone users!
It goes for $0.99 on the Marketplace, but I am making it available for free to fellow XDA members; if you can sideload apps via a xap file. If you like it and use it a lot, feel free to support me by purchasing it on the Marketplace if you want. But, enjoy the free version for now because XDA is awesome!
Download/Purchase link via Zune. Download link should wok by 4/7/11 for all regions.
V1.1 is now available. It now sets the "iPhone" clock to the current system time instead of a static clock, to increase immersion. Also loads faster.
So juvenile... And thank you very much!
definitely worth it's 99 cents
If you guys do enjoy it and purchase it on the Marketplace please review it also to help me out!
It would be nice if you could at least do something in the app. For example, if you could swipe through the pages to make it seem much more realistic. Also, maybe get a higher resolution screenshot of iOS? This screenshot makes it look more like a prototype of the original iPhone somehow running iOS 4.
If these things are done, it would definitely be worth the 99 cents and probably even more!
Great!
Haha, great app, when's the android version coming?

The forum compresses the attached images. The real app is high resolution. I guess I should find a website to host the screenshot and link it.
I really worry about that in the Microsoft marketplace. They compress the screenshots even further and makes it look so much worse that it is annoying.

With all due respect to the OP, this is singlehandedly one of the most retarded and juvenile things I've ever seen.
We all have mobile devices based on what our preferences and likes are, this isn't the sort of maturity that we should be projecting about the iPhone, it's appalling. I own an Android phone, but I'm perfectly content with respecting all the phone platforms as very capable.
I hate ****-talking any app like this, but it needs to be said. It's a joke for now, har har har, but it projects a terrible attitude towards the mobile space and I doubt you'll be taken seriously should you choose to release mature paid apps in the future.
Good day to you.

I have released mature apps. I have several in the top 10 in the WP7 Marketplace in a couple different categories. So that takes care of that.
To the rest of what you said, whatever. Its called a joke, people have different sense of humors. It hurts nobody. You honestly sound like somebody who is just offended and must insult and put down other people who do not agree with your opinion of the world. Other people enjoy it, you are not the morality police. Insult the quality of the app, please, I want to improve my programming. But just because it offends you does not mean your opinion is the only right one and you should insult everyone else that enjoys this type of humor....

A) No, I'm not offended. I'm just disappointed.
B) It's fine that it's a joke. That's not what I'm disappointed about.
C) Just as you're entitled to make whatever app you want, I'm entitled to tell you (or anyone else) my opinion as it stands.
Get over it. Not everyone is grinning their ass off at your little joke, and I might be the first person to express it, but you can be sure I won't be the last.
I'm not that impressed with "programming" when it appears to be an image that executes an animation when tapped. I don't understand why this made the front page.
In fact, YOU sound more upset that someone didn't like your app, which in that case, it's you that needs to grow up.
Whatever, I'm leaving this thread, I don't own a WP7 device, but if I did, you can be sure I wouldn't be getting this "app".

No, in fact a lot of people do not like some of my apps. Does not offend me. Just like it does not offend me when people do not like my cooking, it is all a matter of personal opinion.
Other people are enjoying something that does not harm anybody and you feel the need to come in and try and make people feel bad about it, insult people, and ruin peoples good time.
Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. Well, guess what, people are entitled to their opinion about your opinion.

iOS 5 - Annoys Me.

So, Apples sues everyone under the moon, but takes every feature from Android, packages it up as some "magical" update and fanboys choke on .. edited this...
Wait, so... are all of the developers going to have to redo their apps to work on iOS 5... since it didnt have this notification bar earlier? Fragmentation?
I hate that the notification bar looks so good on iOS 5. Hate it, but you have to admit they made it better looking.
Moved this to my new Blog. If only I had this created before I made this rant.

I really hope Jobs gets sued. I hate him with a passion.
How can they be suing companies (samsung) for not being innovative/taking their ideas... and be on stage introducing iOS5 as the latest/greatest when these feature are 3 years old on Android?
I don't know why, but Google REALLY should sue. If Microsoft gets $5 for every HTC Android device sold, Google should get $5 for every iOS device sold with iOS 5.
EDIT: LOLOL, THEY COPIED SENSE 3.0 WITH THE LOCKSCREEN WIDGETS THING. They're so ****ed.

I mean, I have no problem with them having a ton of features that we have already, they need to learn that Android is superior, but the fact that Apple acts like they JUST came up with it is what pisses me off.
Well just saw and its nice to know that Apple is reintroducing android 1.5...
"sometimes to innovate, you have to copy."
-actual Gizmodo quote
They have been doing this for years! I remember back when iPhone first came out and they acted like web and email on your phone was a new thing. I had been doing it on Windows Mobile for years.
Am i missing something? No widgets???

hahah its nice to know jobs running out of ideas....someone suggest him to make an
iAndroid app.....for easy access to android goodies....
On the brightside guys....ppl with iCrap can now actually be a tad happier. Imagine what it would be like if you were stuck wint iCrap and didn't have notifications and ppl you knew had that on Android. It felt almost as if you didn't have a smartphone.
Give them some slack.
Personally I see nothing wrong with taking other people's good ideas. I mean most PC operating systems are all based on the same digital ancestor. If I am trying to rip into an impenetrable bag a chips and see someone else do it well I will copy them and probably show other people something "I learned from that guy/gal over there". However...
Suing people who do something similar to you (especially in parallel research) is effed up. If they didn't go around patent trolling and suing everyone else in the business I would think "cool, good for iPhone folks", which i still believe, but at the same time I see Apple doing all these things and think "Fuuuuuu-!" especially when I think about a few months from now when they start a law suit to say someone pre-copied them or that after Apple copied them they continued doing it.

Apple sued Samsung for a couple of logos, and the box around the logos(app drawer), basically. LOL
I am wondering how an OS that is "open source" and thrives on expansion and adaptation can sue anybody for taking a "feature" that is on just about everything. I think the sue'ing game has gotten way out of hand. Just make make your shot and if people want it they will buy it....
Oh and on another note. As far as re-introducing Android 1.5 features, I think they are just going to perfect it like they have most of their other stuff.

That right!
The man and his people developed a technology that indirectly was the cause for the fevored development of Android. If it weren't for the desire to find a product that could compete with the iPhone/iPod, Android may not be what it is today.
He was a visionary, who was hand in hand with Bill Gates and Windows, his path took him in a different direction than Windows. He did what he did, very well, and just because his iOS was locked down, didn't mean he had an inferior product.
We, in our own way here in XDA have become our own version of snobs. "If it's not open source so we can do what we want/when we want; it's no good"
I think we need to remember that there is a whole different world of folk who just want to use their devices, not hack the crap out of it; and that's ok too.
His products may not be for me, and like all things, have their own set of faults. But in the end his work has made a enormous impact on the development of hardware/software, which has impacted all of us.
Agree or not with him or his beliefs, I think we would all be best served to honor the impact anyone has on our lives

That's actually the reason for Apple's success with a large demographic, just not all. Every detail is designed with fewer things to think about. Locked down OS, fewer settings (what you hear as "cleaner interface"), no replacable battery or SD card, one mouse button (older Macs), etc. The out of sight out of mind philosophy flows throughout. I often joke about them being better for OCD/ADD and such, which actually has some truth to it.
People come in all shapes and sizes. Some want or even need simplicity and some want (and need) flexibility, expandability and programability. It's just hard for many to understand that what's good for them is not for good someone else.

Jobs: I will spend my last dying breath to destroy Android

Hi,
Everyone should know the lines from Steve Jobs below:
"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong,” Jobs said. “I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this.”
Now, I expect there are a lot of talented graphic artists here in XDA who loves Android.
Could anyone create an image of our beloved Android robot, rolling on the floor laughing while pointing finger to the above quoted text?
We should create a competition for graphic artists to create such image as funny as possible!
Come on, show us your creativity!
Probably with simple caption like "Apple, you can keep dreaming" ...
I request that even though many people on here are android fanboys ( not a bad thing ) that they respect what Steve Jobs and apple did for the industry and remember that he died doing what he loved.
Whether or not you agree, his anger is justifiable in the sense that android's UI had large similarities to iOS. Icons, layout, etc. He is human and thus experiences emotions which may or may not blind or sway his judgment.
"android is a stolen product"
Really Jobs? As I remeber Mac Os' are nothin really more than linux computers with apple branding all over.
Don't you mean UNIX? And I don't think what his basis of staling is the same with your basis of stealing. His basis is that this OS was just an outright copy, a wannabe iOS (again due to the striking similarities at the time). Hence a "stolen product". And if I remember correctly, UNIX is open source no? How can you steal something open source? Moreover, if i remember correctly again, it is not entirely UNIX, it simply has codes which were allowed to be taken and were taken for use.
I would like to see how android stood in a full on legal assault.
Apple is more or less doing this through the manufacturers.
Too soon.... show some respect.
You will find it everywhere. There is a famous quote by Gates. He once told Jobs:
“Well, Steve, I think there’s more than one way of looking at it. I think it’s more like we both had this rich neighbour named Xerox and I broke into his house to steal the TV set and found out that you had already stolen it.”

I think people are a little too sensitive about this. And while I understand what he was getting at, I do believe it was over the top. Instead of viewing this thread as a personal attack, just view it as him being remembered.

Personally, I find this quote even better. It's hilarious.
Well that just leaves a couple more Steves who want to destroy Google.
