...It's pretty much been over half a year since I needed to root my phone again, but I just received a brand new one from tmob.
SO. I did the root deal, that went super smooth, I have JF1.51 CRB43 ADP to start with.
NOW, I am trying to update the radio, and it does not seem to be working. From what I remember and what I've read, all you do is flash it like you would any rom, rename to update.zip and recov alt+s, right? Well, when I check the radio version it still says the original, not what I flashed. So I re-downloaded and tried again, no luck.
....feel like a real idiot here haha, never had it not work before. Tried searching but I had no luck finding the solution. By all means if you have a link and this was a pointless post just tell me, else I just need some help!
which recovery image do you have installed

If your using Cyanogen's recovery, try to physically press the alt-s, and home + back to reboot
I believe it works like that for flashing the IPL (radio) and SPL
where did you get the radio from?
Sorry I left out the recov info, I know my signature is misleading...didn't change it yet..!
I'm using JF 1.43 recov, I remember that (not sure if it was ever fixed, all I know is that flashing the SPL with CM recov caused 'error at line ___' when flashing new roms) that you cannot flash the new SPL with cyanogen recovery, so I'm using JF's until I get the radio and spl flashed correctly.
I got the radio from where I usually have in the past, as well as the new SPL
http://sapphire-port-dream.googlecode.com/files/
(Of course I will not flash the latest SPL until the newest radio is flashed first!)
I just want my happy CM 3.9.7 back..! With the ability to flash the new hero roms when I get curious..
****I am now attempting to flash the radio with cm recov 1.4, will update on this if it works.
****no luck with cm either, didn't think it would make a difference but thought I would give it a shot. I still have 1.22.12.29 for my radio :/ agh!
So...Still can't update the radio for whatever reason, just does not take, and I still can't find anything in the forums about this either... :/ Anyone have any ideas at all?
get the radio from the htc website maybe you got a bad download. i have flashed radio and new spl with cyanogens recovery so i know it will do it. after flashing the radio press home and back to reboot. do not reboot from the recovery console because i have noticed that it will not write the image.

Thanks for the link ^-^ I will give it a shot. Good to her that the CM recov flashes the new SPL alright now..! I will post results...every time I flash it goes through the motions of writing the radio but just never shows that I have the new one..super frustrating.
** I also notice that whenever I have tried to flash the radio on the new phone, when I reboot it goes through the appropriate motions, yes, however it puts me back into recovery every time. I wonder if I should just completely start over (unroot, re-root) hope thats not the case..I just got it all set back up again :/
Nope, no matter where I download from and how many times I flash with different recoveries.. I still have the original radio 1.22.12.29 :/
This has always been so easy! I've never had issues with rooting, then updating the radio, then updating to the new SPL.. :/

If you can, try rerooting, it will only be a few more steps.

Yeah, I was hoping to not have to but I will in a bit here if I still can't figure it out. I have root just fine, running CM 3.9.9.1 even, which I usually only run his roms, however I do like to try the Hero roms as well as they come out..
bummer :/

I don't know why its not updating your radio, but everything else works fine. You should update the radio before updating to cupcake builds. maybe that will help?
gave up for a while, finally re-rooted
Re-rooted and still cannot update my radio, I have tried updating it after the very first rooting steps, after updating to JF RC33 as well, I still can't get the latest radio to get onto my phone. I have tried with JF recovery, CM recovery, as well as the original recovery image, and nothing. Notta. Zip. No idea why my phone simply will not take the new radio image.. I have re-downloaded it a million times as well, going in circles..don't get why the phone will let me root, unroot, all that jazz, and simply will not let me update the radio... driving me nuts!! I can use CM roms just fine of course but any other roms I am stuck with not trying cause of this annoyance!! Anything anyone can recommend would be great
o man still can't get it to work?
try flashing the official 1.5 OTA update, which contains the updated radio. see if it gives you an error message. if it does, take it to tmobile and tell them to replace your phone.
if it flashes...see if it updated your radio. if it did, you can use the one click root to root your phone
Thanks again buddy, I will try it out ^^
So, I unrooted, and applied the OTA updates from 29 to 30, 30 to 33, 33 to cupcake..and I still don't have the latest radio, still at 1.22.12.29. I got the ota cupcake here:
https://android.clients.google.com/updates/partner/signed-kila-ota-150275.53dde318.zip
i'm going to try flashing the ota radio update without root if it will let me..grr..this is so weird, there is no reason why it shouldn't take a simple radio update..hrm
***attempted the ota radio update, guess you can't without root which is what I figured, but frick, this makes no sense.. >>
so, this is a bit odd, at http://developer.htc.com/adp.html, one of the spots to DL the latest radio, when you hover over the radio link for 1.5 and 1.6, it says "ota-radio-1_22_14_11.zip" rather than "ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip", weird, eh? Wonder if it's simply not the right radio, and labeled wrong, I have no idea, but this is getting super old.
I'm actually having the same problem, can't seem to update the radio with the radio image the htc site provides. It's still stuck at 1.22.12.29
Anyone had this before? Any help would be appreciated
I can't get around it, and it's really frustrating, since the only rom I can use is a CM build..aside from a couple others, but CM is the best as far as universal SPL use goes..
So what I've tried so far:
- Updated to HardSPL
- Tried multiple Radio updates, new ones, old ones, even some from the forums.
- Tried a few complete updates that include the radio image
- Tried flashing directly from fastboot, not sure what partition I need to flash though, the radio partition gives me an error that it does not exist.
Still no go. The weird thing is that I come from a stock 1.5 installation updated from 1.0 via t-mobile. And I'm still at the original 1.0 radio image.
Hey guys,
I just tried updating my G1 to the latest radio on Haykuro's site. But I am not sure if the radio has actually been updated. I am quizical about this because my baseband version reads:
62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I
Click to collapse
I thought it should read:
62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Click to collapse
I want to update the SPL next so that I can install Haykuro's Ion Rev.2 ROM, but I don't want to do this until I have solved this problem.
The process I took to update the Radio was:
Install 'Recovery Flasher' (the one-click-root app) and ran it.
Put the Radio on my microSD named update.zip
Rebooted G1 in recovery mode.
Applied update.zip
There was one doubt in my mind about the process I did. That was the part where I could have wiped the phone before updating the Radio. Is this what I should have done? If I had would the Baseband version be correct? If I do is there anyway to get all my apps back after flashing the Ion ROM?
Please would somebody help me out! Thanks.
You have the new radio. And as far as your apps go you just gotta reinstall them. You can install them 1 by 1 or by batch install or with ADB. Just find a technique you like cause if you gonna start playing with new roms you will be doing this more than once.
Oh right, cool. Thanks for that.
So what do the H and U mean exactly then?
To be honest I really can't remember. That topic was talked about a long time ago and I don't have that good of a memory. Maybe someone could chime in and explain.
You don't need Haykuro's SPL for Ion r2, It's a google build, so it will work with any SPL including the original one...
Mine is 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I. I got it from HTC's site (Android 1.5 Radio Image). I was running Ion r2 for a couple of months, had no problems with that radio.
Cool. Thanks for all the help guys.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good way to backup all my apps ready for a batch install once I have flashed to Ion REV.2?

Search for Backup for root users in the market or go to the link below and scan the QR code if you have barcode scanner.......
http://www.cyrket.com/package/com.bg.smsbk
There are many other ways to backup your apps, but this is by far the easiest for beginners.
If you want other ways, you can PM me and I can walk you through some other steps.
Thanks DM,

my phone is stuck in a reload state i put jac xreroskiv rom or what ever its called and its stuck it starts up but keep saying hero over and over any ideas. help please thanks in advance i had already installed hero and such was just trying this new rom. i tried other roms too but no dice. even the original hero rom i originally put on here.
You should probably make a post for help in the rom's forum that you're having problems with.
Also, it would help if you told them which G1 device you had, what radio/spl and stuff like that.
But with really no info from your post the only things I can think of is that you need to do wipe or reformat your sd card.
Most likely you just have to repart your ext partition. But more info would help.
i have radio-2.22.19.261 hboot-1.33.2005 dream32b i was able to restore it but now i cant install the rom . i tried again and got the same problem so i probably got the wrong radio for the rom i want which is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534479\
You have the right radio. Really there is only one radio. There's the 26I that we use and the old radio that is not used anymore. Do not flash the hero radio or you will brick your phone. Did you repartion your sd card so it's fresh?
yeah i used the home and end button and did the partition using the boot loader thingy. i ended the loop but now its like i bough the phone new with root make sense?

Not the least amount of sense to me, but if your phone is working ,then good. You had a bootloop which is usually solved by wiping your ext3 and phone.
maybe i have the wrong build? i had some ra build cant remember what it was called i reflashed to cyanogen 1.4 gonna try it when i get home

all you had to do was wipe ext3, you should do this when changing any hero build unless otherwise noted. be sure you are wiping the intern. memory as well ALT+W in ReCon. also, repair ext filesystems and flash again, hero roms take a while to boot so make sure you are patient.
okay ill try when i get off work. i have 1.33.2005
2.22.19.26I my build is cyanogen + jf 1.4 can i install the rom i discussed earlier using the method u talked about? it was slow when i installed it earlier anyway of making it faster kept loading.
i fixed it dont know how lol but i did. i think i just had the wrong build. close thread plz. thanks for all the help people.

I kept seeing you say you were trying to flash the cyanogen build 1.4. That is not a rom but the recovery. But glad its working now. Put [SOLVED] on your thread title.
I just tried loading the latest cynanogen rom, and when i try to reboot, it just stays at that screen for a while, it's been about a good 10 minutes now, i don't know what to do. i'm kind of a noob at all this, sorry

ok this what you do...
download and copy the latest radio for the dream g1 install then wipe.
then download and copy the danger ( death ) spl for dream g1 install then wipe.
then download and copy the latest cyanogen rom for dream g1 install then reboot.
TIP: All if not most files needed can be found at wiki.cyanogenmod.com i found everything there and on xda site. so have at it and enjoy.
that still didn't work for me? i'm looking at my about phone thing in settings, and my radio is 2.22.23.02 so i guess i'm up to date.
i'm currently running cannon202's mod
edit:
anyone else?
edit:
sorry, i should've told you guys i got it to work, thanks b6gsix, all i had to do was upgrade my spl~
So im sure this will get bumped to some where else but im desperate. I have been useing roms for a while now since dec 2009 and was wondering if anyone has a fix for my issue. If i try to RUU to re-root and start fresh to fix other random issues (hopefully) i get to about half way through the RUU and it gives an error (140) bootloader error, says im useing the wrong boot loader. im on a cdma hero that was using fire rats mod and aospcm mod then aosp 9.9.2 then cm 6 and i have tried 3 recoveries cwm 3.0.0.5 cwm 2. somthing (has puke green text) and then the amon RA and still same issue i thought flashing new recovery got rid of firerats mod. any ideas or help with this would be appreciated
What version of RUU are you using?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
the one from this post as well as the latest direct off sprint site
This is what I have used in the past on my Sprint Hero when running into Error 140 issues. It works like a charm.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843544
I just put 1.0.0.0 in the new_region_version.txt
Give it a shot and let us know if it worked for you too.
so flash this then try running the RUU again should clear 140 error

You could try the ruu in zip format. You can find in the hero dev section. You can get back to stock with that in no time. Good luck
Yea it's me again with the
