Blackberry pearl user here. I have a couple general g1 questions.
1. Without a data plan for the g1 does sending/receivings text message still work?
2. Is the phone still functional?
3. I have wifi at home, will i be able to access my wifi with my g1 with no problems ?
4. How is the video recording application?

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Likely, but the G1 has been known to have compatibility problems with some wifi routers. Updating the router firmware has often solved this.
4. It's okay. Fine for a quick Youtube vid. Checkout Youtube for samples of videos. The G1 vids are tagged with "Uploaded with Google Android."

1) I installed SMS chat thread v 1.0 which did not work. i think it is designed for touch screens and I have an HTC s730. I used the WM remove programs tool but it left behind several folders which can be seen only on the folders screen for messaging. I lso have no confirmation after send feature. The company, vito technology has not responded. Any ideas?
2)can anyone recommend a GOOD sms app for the HTC S730?
thanks!
How can I make absolutely sure my phone doesn't connect to 3G/EDGE unintentionally? I don't want it to default to this when it can't connect to a specific WiFi-signal, since my calling plan has terrible rates for data transfers.

i may have the perfect solution for this....(especially if you're operator is Tmobile)
go to start>settings>connections>connections.
manage existing modem connections.
tap and hold that connection located there and delete it.
now without connecting to a wifi signal, open your browser and type a site (ex. google.com) and if that edge/3g doesn't pop up, SUCCESS!!!
hope it works and good luck.
Is there registry hack to force phone to ask user confirmation before connecting using GPRS/EDGE/3G. All normal phones has that...

I'm not recognizing the menu choices there, is this for a s730? I did try to change user name and password in GRPS settings under Start>settings>connections>GPRS, but that didn't seem to help either.
What omadon99 suggested about a registry hack would be perfect, since I don't want to permanently disable 3G/EDGE, I just don't want the phone to connect to it and cost me money without confirmation when WiFi doesn't work.
Sorry if this has been asked before, I've read lots of threads but cannot see anything...
Is there some way of doing video over IP from the phone (wifi / 3G) to a PC?
Take it easy before you flame me, its my first post
research microsoft portrait
Thanks for that, but having tried it the forward facing camera doesn't work and the performance is pants even over a g wifi link. Am I missing something?
Not sure what you're really trying to do, but if you want to use your phone as a web cam then check out webcameraplus. Still have to connect with data cable to pc because it connects through active sync/device manager.
are you asking if you can look through your phone's camera on your PC?
eg: Your phone is connect to an online service that enables and uses your phone's camera, then you would connect to that service from your pc and see through the phone's camera.....is that what you're trying to accomplish?
It should be able to be done, I had ran across a program not too long ago that allows you to control and see whats going on your mobile, it is able to connect through active sync/Device maneger and over the internet (wifi/3G) so you should be able turn on the camera from your pc and see through the camera from your pc.....I din't remember the name of it, but its out there.

I just recently rooted my t-mobile Dream (G1) to the latest cyanogen rom and have unlocked it (because i live in canada), I have everything working except every time I try to setup my google account it says "You don't have a network connection" I don't have a data plan, so I need it to use wifi; I had no problem activating it over wifi when I had the original t-mobile rom on.
I have searched online for hours but have found nothing that works.
Please help. thanks!
Hmm really u searched for HOURS !!!! ????
Neway, i search for a minute and found this
http://androidforums.com/support/6564-activate-stock-g1-over-wifi.html
I'd assume same should work for htc dream (Rogers). If it doesnt u can always put ur apn in and use data for like 5 seconds to activate
You posted in the Developers forum -- the Q&A forum is where support-esque queries go. A mod will likely move this thread shortly.
First, there is a section called Q&A that its for QUESTIONS and ANSWERS, and you posted a QUESTION, looking for an ANSWER...post it on the correct section, and wait for someone to reply...
ive noticed on the latest roms that i cant activate google accounts over wifi. i have to turn off my wifi and use 3g. but other than the initial setup everything works over wifi. this happens on the latest stable cyanogen, and also the eclair rom from his source code.

Weird, i can, in fact, i ALWAYS do it over Wifi, i dont have a data plan, so i do it on my home or at college...
i can use the phone and wifi no problem (accessing the web using youtube, using exchange email etc) ... the only problem is that it doesn't seem to be wanting to use the wifi to login to my account. I attached the adb logcat but its pretty long and confusing.
K from ur log it says Checkin disabled because background data is turned off
try turning tht on n c wht happens
ok, slight problem ... it seems to enable that function its under settings>data sync. except when i click that it quickly flashes the "background data" checkbox and other options but then instantly switches to the google login window. is there a adb command or something i can use to enable it?
Thanks!
nvm got it working by using cyanogen's widget.
Thanks for all your help!
Same prob
I was having the same problem, but my background data sync was turned on. I was only able to set up my google accounts by using 3g

I have $5.99 t-zone.I just want to know it can work on hd7 ?anyone ? thank you
apparently yes according to other posters and other threads on here.
You should try the search function.
Yes it does... and does it good! I can browse the internet and the pages load fast, I have 5 email accounts that I access through it (one of them a work email), and most importantly - I can watch t-mobile TV and Netflix - which is actually the reason why I got this phone.
Last night, I found my TouchPad sitting under a pile of papers in my office after a few months of wondering where it was and charged it on the dock. Before this long gap of not using it, it had been working perfectly fine - internet browsing, apps, etc... and the internet definitely worked.
After turning it on, it will connect to my WiFi network without a problem, but when I go to open up a web browser page, it says: "Error: No Internet connection." I also can't get it to load stories in the USA Today app and it won't check email in the email app.
I tried enabling/disabling Airplane Mode and then reset the WiFi settings (gave it a new IP address under the WiFi Preferences menu, like this HP forum post says to do), but it still doesn't want to let me go to websites or anything.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

As you say that you haven't used it for a while I'm wondering if you updated the root certificate.
If you didn't here are instructions on how to :

Hope that this helps.

It won't even let me go into the App Catalog to download the update, actually. When I try to, it says: "You must connect to a network to use this application." After I click "Retry," there is a brief moment where it flashes a screen asking me what country I'm in before it goes right back to the screen telling me to connect to a network.
I don't think this is an issue with my router, since all of my family's phones (a Galaxy Nexus, a Galaxy S3, and two iPhones), two laptops, and a Kindle are all using the network with no problems at all. It seems to me like it must be an internal problem with the way my Touchpad is interacting with the network.
Thanks for the suggestion though! That could be another issue I'll have to fix too (since I don't remember downloading an update to fix that problem, which I hadn't heard about before, though I think I've probably used my Touchpad at some point since July 2013).
