Hey i don't know how popular it is but i love this app! It backs up bookmarks, system setting, sms and more and puts the backup on your sd card. For those flashing phone alot saves alot of headache if you need to wipe. I know there are other ways to backup but hey i like it.
Yea i actually found it as soon as i flashed to jf 1.3, saved me from a whole lot of trouble during my first wipe flashing a theme.
I think its a perfect app. Helps so much after a wipe. If you back up your apps with Astro all your data is saved too .
MyBackup is a must have...
This app is great. Its fast and reliable... Everyone needs a backup of their phone and this app does it best...
now we need to add the app backup capability found in astro into mybackup and it would be the ultimate end user backup utility.

Yeah that would be sweet!!!
App backup now available
The new version of the application backs up apps now... and has capability to schedule a daily or weekly backup... Complete backup utility now
It would be so perfect if it could install all of the backd up apps without you having to click install and done for every single one.
That would be noicee.

I agree with that. Astro is the same way isn't it?
if you rooted you g1, and put your apps on you sdcard, you never need backup you apps, even if you flash/factory reset/wipe/anything else that erases your phone you apps will still be on the ext2 partition on your sdcard i think you can even copy them to your computer if you have a linux machine
Astro is even slower when it comes to reinstalling apps.
As for putting apps on the sd, im gonna wait til google does something about that because i have enough memory left for now. Especially cuz i moved the caches.
Problems with MyBackup
ok, so i did the whole multitouch thing, and now im trying to restore my phone with MyBackup, i backed up all my apps, and all my data to an SD card. Now, i have RC33 with the multitouch add in, and i downloaded MyBackup but when i try to restore the data from the SD card, it gives mr this message: "I/O error: unable to write to SD card. Make sure the SD card is mounted properly and is not connected to your PC."
has anyone else had this problem? The apps restore fine, its only my data (sms, contacts, settings) that gives me that message. Thanks for the help
A reboot fixed that problem for me, though I'm not on RC33.
Yeah it was giving me problems, what it was doing to me is when i restored my system settings the topbar was freaking out and it played ringtones like someone was calling me but no one was, like it is getting the system sounds mixed up. No error messages but still i got rid of it.
Feel lucky. Do *not* restore your contacts using MyBackup. Just re-sync with the google server... I restored using MyBackup and I got duplicates of everyhting and it broke the syncing of my contacts.. For everything else, it worked flawlessly (fantastic for SMS!) but gmail has a backup of your contacts, so there's no use.
Yea, the application says in the opening notes to use either the gmail contact backups or the app, not to use both. There are known issues for sync messing up, but I don't think it is because of the app. Because even without this app people are having a lot of problems with their sync...
I dont know if its just me but when ever I restore my home screen shortcuts all of the shortcuts inside my folders are all messed up or even missing.
For example my games will be in my media folder and my browser short cuts will be in my shopping folder. And some folders will be empty for example my apps folder will be empty and it wont be in anyother folder.
Anyone else have this same problem?
MyBackup Pro
Check it out. This new version solves almost every problem. Restoring all the apps at once does not have any problems at all.. And its just a buck, can not go wrong... Love it!
anybody know where to download this app ? thank you
u tried the market?
Hi,
I've upgraded my Diamond recently to HTC's official 2.03.407.2 GER ROM.
Since then I have some issues I haven't had with 1.93 before:
1. the device seems to go online w/o any (known) reason (all the automatic stuff for emails or weather is disabled to manual updating
2. the device doesn't go offline when the network access finished anymore
with 1.93 it immediately went offline when the weather data was updated or the mail account was read. Now it seems to stay online until I close the connection in the comm-manager.
3. my TF3D music player doesn't work anymore. It only shows the preshipped music examples and can't even play the stuff. Manually added songs are missing completely. The Windows Media Player works correctly and displays all songs. AudioManager_Eng crashes quite often also (like almost every time I open it)
One thing I have to note is that I used Sprite Backup to restore my data after the ROM upgrade. I'm not sure if that restored configuration data which is not compatible with the new ROM anymore.
Any hints for me about these issues?
Thanks,
Wolfgang
Perform a hard reset, and then test for these issues again before restoring your Sprite backup.
Actually that was what I've tried to avoid.
Given that everything works then I won't be able to restore my old data then. I can live with that as long as I can get back my contacts.
To backup my contacts I only need pim.vol copied somewhere? Could someone confirm that. (And I guess the internal storage is safe from a hard reset?)

Yes, pim.vol contains everything to do with contacts and calls. Look at the uc.zip file in my signature.
Hey,
I'm having issues with the music player as well... Seems any large playlists cause the phone to crash before it can change song... Ideas?
Hi,
try 2.03.407.3 GER ROM
Official Download from HTC
They changed it silently
I installed this Rom and some Bug's like Notice in Background and TF3D Crashes seems to be fixes.
Ive found an issue with google backup on 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs, the issue indicates that its related to my Google account rather than my phone (nexus one). Wondering if anyone else has seen the issue.
Cannot remove google's 'backed up' data from my account. I have previously used the google backup function (privacy settings - backup my data) which copies details of my bookmarks, wireless network keys, and installed applications on to googles servers. The purpose being when you log in to a phone it will automatically download all this information and 'recover' the phone.
The problem that im having now is that I cannot remove the 'backed up' data from googles servers.
I have....
1. Unckecked 'Backup my data' - which gives me the confirmation of:
"are you sure you want to stop backing up your settings and application data and erase all copies on googles servers"
(leave the phone for 48hrs to ensure that everything has been removed from google)
2. Wipe my phone, factory restore it.
3. Sign in to phone.
4. All settings are recovered to the phone............
I have tried about 10 different ROMS, complete wipe on each install, and complete format of SD card (no ext part).
anyone have any suggestions, done a good bit of searching through google support forums and found several other people having the same issue.

anyone solve this?
I too am having a similar problem...anyone know how to solve this.
I have found a work around which involves disabling the restore just before you set up the google account on first boot, however i would still like to remove the backup data from the google servers.
Thanks D.

make a new google account, lol

Load a fresh ROM, then either:
1 - Unchecked the 'backup to Google's option when first signing in, or
2- Let everything restore, then remove everything from your phone (which will then be saved your Google backup).
If you do 2, then 1, and never re-enable 1, you should get the results you're looking for...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I just got an N1 coming from a mt3g and wanted a fresh start.
What I did on mine was skip the initial login on first boot from a new ROM, unchecked the backup my data thing, then added my google account.
Once my contacts, calendar, & mail sync'd, I went back and checked to backup my data, unchecked it, got the prompt you were talking about.
Waited a day, then checked the box again and nothing has sync'd from the mt3g.

hahaha nice
Am new to Android two weeks ago. I had to have my new SGS replaced and thought that all the phone settings and apps were being synced with my google account (I've always had Background Data and Auto-sync checked on as well as my google accounts set to sync on for Gmail, Contacts and Calendar). Having powered on the new replacement and entered my google account settings I was expecting it to recognise that the new device was not in sync with google and offer to push everything back down to the phone.
All that has happened is my Contacts, Gmail and Calendar are in sync but the phone settings & previously installed apps through the market place are not.
If I go into the Android Market Place on the phone and look at one of the previous apps I had installed such as BBC iPlayer it shows my rating and comment so it knows its me but only offers the option to reinstall the app again from the market, i.e. finding each app manually and reinstalling. Is it not supposed to restore the apps you have previously installed? I reinstalled this app from the market but it hasn't restored the user data associated with the app.
Having dug a little further whilst writing this, I notice that if I log into the Android Market through a web browser on the PC I can see in the "Orders" screen the apps that I previously downloaded. However, on the next tab "Settings" shows My Devices with the old and new phone listed. There doesn't seem to be a way to remove the old phone from my account or tell it that the new phone actually replaces the old so just give me the old data to the new device.
Being new to Android I did think that this was meant to work slicker than this, I hope someone can help out a newbie please?
If you go into the Market and look at My Apps, you should be able to redownload them all (I think an option exists to download them all with a single click "update all" or something like that). Most people backup their applications etc using Tatanium Backup so that they easily restore user apps after ROM upgrades etc. You can also backup SMS messages using an app from the Market.
When you first enter a new Google account into your phone, there is a check box to restore your apps from the Market. This actually is usually best NOT to use since it can cause a sudden massive download.
It is in all ways safer and smarter to just go into MyApps and reinstall the apps one by one. It may take a little longer, but it is a better method.
Titanium Backup is a good option for restoring apps after you flash a new rom, but it won't do you any good if you change phones.
Unfortunately that isn't the case.
If I go into the Android Market Place on the phone and "My Apps" I don't see the apps that were installed on the old phone and thus no option from My Apps to reinstall them.
The only apps that are present in My Apps are those that were I guess added by Three's flavour of this 2.2 OS, which are the Three app plus Google Maps and YouTube.
Their seems to be something wrong with market place if it is meant to work how your suggesting. If I log into market place through my PC that google account sees both the old and new phone but doesn't on the phone offer the old apps to the new phone.
I'm pretty sure that when I entered my google account details earlier that there was no option box to restore as I would have taken that option as I have an unlimited data plan.
I wonder if I should do a factory reset and re enter the account details again but I fear that it will just see this new phone in the market place and not the old one as they obviously have some sort of device id.
Unfortunately it looks like Titanium is just for rooted devices and am not ready to go down that route (no pun intended) just yet.
If the apps and app data are suppose to sync with google then it seems like an unnecessary duplication of work to redo something outside of what should be part of Android natively.
If I have to install a backup app then I would want to find one that backs up all the phone settings, apps and app data to the SD card which I can then move over to the PC where there is obviously more storage. It would be nice to find such an app that provides a selective restore so that it would also be compatible with a new different model phone so that only the apps and app data could be restored.
Updated yesterday to Pie from Lollipop. Did a Samsung and Google Backup, since i was not rooted to use titanium for apps and settings.
after restoring though it seems lots of things are missing. I got all apps restored, but most settings and app data are gone. Good thing i got a cloud sync, from ones that support it, like viber/whatsapp and my expense tracker app. But lots of things have gone missing. I copied the entire filesystem (the part that is available without, rooting at least). Maybe i can get something back?
Most importantly i'm missing my samsung notes data, calendar entries that were stored on phone (google calendar entries got synced back succesfully), and camscanner data. I forgot to sync that last one to the cloud. Also been missing save game progress from the games i got installed
Also novalauncher layout got wiped. I even made sure to create a backup, but after the restore it wasnt on the options. If the backup file is not stored on the rooted part of the filesystem, maybe i can get it back from the full disk copy ive made
Will post once i remember something else of importance.
