Read the sticky about memory. This problem is due to hardware limitations and I don't think anyone has been able to change it. But I could be wrong.

Helmi, Can't u make with Full Ram

Helmi, why dont u make full 128MB ram and 32Mb_Pool? Because I wanna try that rom and install all software in SD card, what about ur opinion?
I think he can but cahe, temp,ie temp files should be in RAMdisk as they are now.
I disagree with this.
No need to have 128 MB RAM in WM5.

I suggest that to one who are not using IE.
I don't install any programs in RAMdisk.
I don't use IE either, but I set RAMdisk to store other apps temp files such as MsReader temp files.
I use SKtools to set other apps temp files store in RAMdisk to avoid Compaction threads.
This is the reason that I want RAMdisk to be as it is now.

Problem with storage in c_shekhar's ROM

I can't understand this ROM.
I have installed it, and despite the fact that everything seems to be working well:
1. Instead of 30MB of storage I get 14.5MB
2. From these 14MB 13MB are already in use
3. This leaves me around 1.5MB to work with.
It is enough to try to sync my contacts (400 items) to get the memory completely stuffed and the device stuck.
Can anyone explain where to continue from here???
Thanks
Helio
Read the sticky thread "30 MB storage Reminder" and please do not cross post.
read the thread first.. and search..

unlock and unhide your EXTROM before you flash, use HIMA_DOC_tools to reformat your storage so that it will show 30MB instead of 14MB, then flash with WM6, actually, this is not ROM-specific instruction, but you need to do this with WM5 and WM6 ROMS to increase your storage capacity. but if you are happy with 14MB storage, then dont do the steps i detailed.
Many thanks.
Regarding the cross post, I apologyze for that, I was trying to delete my message in the other thread and couldn't find where to do it.
Just done it. Worked like Magic.
I don't know how I missed the link to the memory-related thread on the original upgrade thread.
Again, thanks to all that bothered to help.

Partition SD Card Help

Hey guys,
Sorry to ask, and forgive me for been dumb, not really a Linux user here.
I need help with some details. I have my Hero - rooted with 0.7 Fresh 8GB SD on it.
What is the advantages of partitioning your SD - let's assume :
Swap-size = from 32mb to ummm 1024MB
Ext2-size = from 512mb to ummm another 1024mb.
Is there any standard procedure/requirement for this.
Also, let's assume I did this and this the following :
SD: ext2 to ext3
Can anyone put this in English language for me
I did all of this and was hoping that my phone would reflect a different internal memory size, but it still shows what I had before. I also noticed under "computer management that my SD got reduced by the amount I specified earlier from HTC Recovery mode.
Many thanks in advance
There are 2 different methods for setting up Apps2SD the most common method does not show any reflection in your About Phone screen. The other UNIOn method does, but i have seen very few people use this and I have not clue how to do it. No big deal either way you do it.
If you load the newest recovery from AMON_RA you can specify the size of your partitions. It seems like you are probably using this.
If you ever fill up a 1 gig swap someone wrote a very badly handled program in terms of memory. Swap = Linux version of the Windows Page file. The more you have doesn't necesarily mean the phone will move faster, it just means you have more room to grow. you are still using RAM for programs currently in USE. Swap just holds the stuff out of RAM until it is needed.
ext2 to ext 3: Ext3 from what I understand is just adds journaling and does its own repairs/checks. Stops you from waiting around while ext2 fixes itself if something bad happens.
I am sure someone can correct me if I am wrong on any of this.

[Q] MTD Partition Help

Sorry if this is plainly obvious, but how do you check to see the size of your MTD partition. Also, I changed the size of my internal partition but it still only shows a low number (23 mb). Is that normal?
lbcoder said:
I suspect that you have no idea about the difference between volatile and non-volatile memory. Understanding this distinction is the FIRST STEP that you should take BEFORE EVER trying any kind of firmware changes.
You reading that "23 MB" from the bottom line of "advanced task manager"? This has NOTHING to do with storage partitioning (non-volatile) and EVERYTHING to do with RAM (volatile).
First learn about the different kinds of memory, then come back and ask your question again.

No, the 23 mb is what's displayed as internal memory. The reason I am asking is because in the superfroyo thread, the op suggested you use firerats patch so you can have all apps on internal memory. I did the patch (even used a config file from thread) and my internal memory is still low. So am I still completely wrong here?

Seeing as STOCK userdata partition is about 75 MB, you are DEFINITELY reading something wrong.

Okay thanks for your help. I did set mine to 90 and 2 I believe. Do you mind answering my other question on how to see the size of your partitions?
