Help with builds - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im trying to put the android keyboard on the new hero builds, however i am getting "missing file" errors upon installation.
Anybody have any advice.
Im not sure what signing an update means exactly (or if it is necessary), all i did was replace the files i wanted to and re-zipped the update and tried to install.

Make sure your settings on your PC aren't such that you are inadvertently naming the files update.zip.zip. In some instances, Windows will append the file name automatically. To check if this is the case, go into My Computer>Tools>Folder Options and see if "hide extensions for known folders" is checked or unchecked. If its checked, then you need only to rename the file to update and windows will automatically put the zip on it. Have you installed Cyanogen's 1.4 recovery image? This will allow you to not have to worry about this problem as it lets you flash any image with a .zip extension.
Wow That was It! Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!1 My 8 hour headache is gone now!!!

Glad to help! I still stand by my original recommendation of installing Cyanogen's latest recovery image (1.4 currently) if you haven't done so already.
If you check back on this thread, can you please edit the title to say [SOLVED] so everyone knows that the problem has been handled?

[Q] FRG83 Launcher2.apk, anyone?

After a bit of stupidity, I installed the G2 Launcher2.apk on to my phone. This has apparently halted the second stage of the FRG83D update, which my phone has relentlessly attempted to install for over a week now.
I'm getting an apply_patch_check error and it appears to be failing on the hash check of Launcher2.apk.
So I rolled back to what I thought was my backup of Launcher2.apk. This went poorly. My phone wouldn't boot at all. Had to ADB and push a separate Launcher2.apk I found online.
Now I'm at an impasse. The version I now have is 5 screens, clearly an N1 Froyo L2, but it's also throwing the apply_patch_check error.
Is anyone able to provide me with a link to the FRG83 Launcher2.apk? I downloaded the signed-passion-img-FRG83_0923.zip file from HTC which I think should have it buried in the .img file, but I'm unclear how to unpack and push a file from there to my phone...
Alternatively, was Launcher2.apk updated for FRG83D? If not, I could just pull the L2 from my friend's N1 and use that... but I'm guessing it'll be more of the same checksum fun.
Finally, is there any way to tell it to ignore the patch check? Or is that impossible?
Many thanks in advance!
See attachment for FRG83 Launcher2.
If it still fails, you could try flashing the update using a custom recovery with signature checking turned off (ie. Amon_RA 2.0 or ClockworkMod)?
Sweet jesus, thank you. Finally was able to push the Launcher2 apk and odex and successfully upgraded to D. Thanks so much!

Problems updating phone.apk and contacts.apk

Ive been trying to update phone.apk and contacts.apk on Captivate I896 from rogers. To phone.apk and contacts.apk application from Acer Liquid E.
The difference between the two is that Acer stores Call ID Name in call log for people who are not in your contact list and samsung does not. And i need that because i get a lot of calls per day and its important for me to be able to see the caller name in the log, not just the number.
I pulled phone.apk and contacts.apk from the Froyo 2.2 update on Acer website for the phone.
And my i896 captivate is on Froyo 2.2 too.
I just got android so still new.
I rooted it fine.
Than updated the recovery soft. using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213
Than created my own update.zip because installing phone.apk using various app installation methods didn't work at all. So i decided to update it using update.zip
I followed instructions on creating update.zip file and here is what i made.
http://www.mallmedia.ca/update.zip
If i boot into the recovery mode and try to install update.zip it dsplays "Finding update package.. Opening Update package... Installing update... Than - Installation aborted error"
What did i do wrong?
And is it a stupid idea to try to update phone.apk and contacts.ap0k from another android phone? Maybe there is some other files i need to install along with those apps in order for it to work.
Please help. I searched numerous forums and tried numerous things and nothing worked.

Error - "Application was not installed" after theming

Hey,
I tried to theme the app "Swift Key" by extracting and modifying the *.png image files. Afterwards, I packed the whole thing again, but as soon as I try to install the archive, it keeps returning the error "Application was not installed."
Before that error message I can at least see the modified icon in the app installer.
What can I do? :/
Did you uninstall the market version? & Did you resign the APK?
Yes, of course I uninstalled previous versions (otherwise I couldnt even start the installation of the themed one). What means "redesign the apk"? I unpacked the original one, modified the images and packed it again. I read on the internet that this would be a possibility to theme an app. So I didn't use eclipse or something like that.
Not redesign, resign. Try this.
Ow, sorry. :/
Thanks, your solution somehow helped to solve that problem and I am able to properly install the app. I can also open the settings and tutorial and the keyboard is shown properly as well (and its themed).
However, as soon as I try to touch any key, it says that the application was unexpectedly terminated. Any idea what could be wrong now?
*push*
I could not solve the problem yet. Does anyone have any idea, why modified images lead to unexpected terminations of the keyboard?

[Doogee F5] Flashing XPosed Framework .zip ?

Hi there anyone!
This is my first post ever so I'm sorry if it's not the right place, but I really need help with this thing.
I used to have XPosed Framework running on my old Doogee DG550, and it was real fun. Now I got a Doogee F5 running Android 5.1 and I decided to put XPosed it too.
However, I'm finding it extremely difficult, as I got "stuck" while trying to follow the guide in this post.
I've installed the XPosed Installer just fine, I can see it in my apps, but of course it still says I need to install the Framework. So I downloaded the version mentioned in that post, which is xposed-v85-sdk22-arm64.zip and then the Official TWRP App I found on the PlayStore.
Then I simply tried to open the app and find the file while searching through my folders, but the app couldn't recognize it. So I tried extracting it in a folder and then pointing out the entire folder to the app, and this failed too. I tried opening every single folder within the .zip file, but yet no usable file was found.
Now I'm kinda stuck: I don't really know what I'm doing wrong, and as you might have already figured out I'm a real noob at this.
If any of you people can help, that would be great!
