Zelpus Compiled ID List (Up to page 11 Post 106)
Redoing this 1st post to be more of a guide. (See date on post to see what day guide is updated) (Atm it will be jumbled with info till I organize it for the developer to post on their official help section)
Character Specialty: 4 Min cool down on str, stamina, and hp. 56 Min cooldown if you choose money. (Your char choice at start) 5 min for non specialty and 60 min if you didnt choose money. (Personally I think STR is the best option to choose, see notes below why)
Attack/Defense stat points: While good for starting out wins to those who dont have any party members, this stat really is hurting.. Cause 1 extra party member with gear can outclass your powered up attack/def stat value. Use your points in STR, Stam, and HP. (Stam is good for quest farming, Str for all around and endgame, HP to live longer when someone is trying to farm you or when your farming npcs)
Attacking/Defending Notes:
Your party you need gear for as well. So if you have 135 people in your party, You would ideally want 135 Weapons, 135 Armors and 135 Vehicles. Highest value item is whats used 1st per slot.
The Attack values on your weapon/armor/vehicle from your character stats and the gear you bought for your party are used against the Defense points added up of the person you are attacking. (Or if someone attacks you, your defense values are added up) So if your a fighter and LOVE to attack other people, be sure you invest in enough Weapons or higher attack power items to pulverize someone with a low defense score. Both scores are used to determine who wins according to the dev.
Vehicles Tips: While expensive, Best bet toward endgame is to stock up on Black Stallions or Griffons Reason is, they are not as bad upkeep as the other high ups, so you can easily buy land to offset that 1k upkeep. (Harder to buy expensive land for 200+ people when upkeep is 50k+ you would never make money or be able to buy enough to make your level grinding or battles worth it if you want to win and upgrade other gear) As you get up there and have more land to offset, you can slowly buy higher upkeep items for a edge.
Armor/Weapon Tips: Always upgrade to higher calibers and sell off your old gear as long as you have the amount needed for each person in your party. It doesnt help if you have 200 low attack weapons (Say 32 attack) if you go up against someone who has 200x of 100+ attack weapons. Same with Armor. While it gets pricy. Thats why you need to ensure you have a stable income. I personally find 600k per hour is stable enough if you win battles and farm other players for some high loot. It does not take long to get a good armor per person.
OMG I got "x" mil off this guy!: GOOD Farm them! I love the ones that gave me 41 mil. What is the best advice I can give if you have a high amount of gold from battle? Use that to buy high end land. Long term income is better then the items you could buy and still be stuck with hardly making any gold per hour which is your primary income when your away or asleep. Otherwise always rem to bank after each big battle where you get alot, As you know you may lose it if you attack someone else.
Farming Revenge Tips: Got someone in your "News"? Well crush em! If its a recent attack, try to hit them back, if you lose, add more players to your party or get your gear in check. If you win and only get 0 gold. STOP and wait a hour, then try again. Why? Cause why kill em (Unless your bloodlust like I am) when you can wait a hour and FARM them! If you kill em, you have to wait till they attack you back or 24 hours. So catch them off guard when you can get their gold!
Another tip, Sometimes I like to "lose" fights if it means I can kill em back! Bloodlust... but smart tactic to use, Piss them off by killing them even tho you "lose" then get your party and gear to top theirs, so when they try to "revenge farm" you they will lose and you will now have them on your news sheet to farm them! (Afterall how can you farm someone daily if they arent on your news page to attack them and track them)
Healing via Oracle and afk: Always use this before logging out. So many people do not check their HP and wind up dying dying dying as soon as their hp is high enough to be attacked again. Always log in and CHECK your HP too as well as bank your income so they get 0 gold.
NPC Farming: Always test each NPC in a fight to see which one gives you the MOST money for a victory. Why? Cause this way you can farm them and get good xp and more gold which allows you to heal yourself at the oracle as well as turn a profit. I personally make more XP fighting then I ever would quests. Example. 60 Stamina can get me 100+ xp for all my 60. 35 Strength gives me 30-40 xp per win. (At 30xp thats 1050 xp, so quite a difference) Only thing Quest can do is maybe give you more money up front and possible a rare loot item or gem buyable item. (Does not happen often enough to be worth it tho) So find your NPC to crush each level when no other players are around to kill and farm. (Personally I wish I could go back in time and choose Str as my power. So recharge timer is 4 mins vs 5. I mistakenly did HP recharge which I guess is ok too since I may not die as quick on afk)
The level of a person in your party is only for show. All that counts is what gear you have for them. (The level only means something to the player themselves, their stats do not help you in anyway. So posting OMG Im level 80 ADD ME! Means nothing)
Caution to those who add IDs from a list:
- If you add a friend to your party. Sure that may help you use more gear against someone that you have to buy, but its ALSO one less person available to fight against! So while the developer assures me enough people are around to keep everyone busy. Unless you want to fight against NPCs who dont have riches! (^ ^)v You may wish to consider limiting how many you toss into your party list. (Also it doesnt help if you have 300 party but only have 50 weapons in your inventory, the other 250 would hardly be helping your attack/def values at all)
So if you wanna add people to get a edge over higher ups. Be sure to add LOWER level players. Why? This way your not taking away possible targets with your current level or future levels. Afterall if your a serious player here, everyone below your level wont catch up to you, so why not keep those in your party and fight those higher up with your large party. (Since again, the level of the id does not matter, only the gear you give them)
Party ID and adding more!:
Be sure to always have a high party number. The more you have, the BETTER you win fights. A guy who has 475 people FULLY GEARED will always beat a 474 party who is also fully geared. Why? Those added gear values of just that 1 person extra is all it takes to win a fight.
Fight Screen:
If you see a good RPG name that has a first and last name. Chances are it is a NPC which will yield solid xp but only limited gold based on the level. Good to grind against to push your XP up or if there are no other options. Looking for real players and BEATING THEM can yield high rewards. I beat someone who gave me 15 MILLION GOLD! So Bank people bank!
Using Land:
In the beginning focusing on a balance is good. As you get into your later levels or if you had luck in a fight. Use that high gold to invest in the higher income lands. This is VITAL. Cause you spend only a few mins a session vs the HOURS of downtime where you could be earning income and coming back to a nice pile of gold waiting to be used! (Using 15 Mil on weapons and armor is nice to gear up your party.. but kinda hurts if your only making 10k per cycle...)
-----------------------
As of 9/20/2009 my stats following the advice Im giving you above is as follows:
Completed Quests:
570
Fights Won:
8353
Fights Lost:
1221
Deaths:
142
Kills:
732 (And growing.. Ill get to be a top warrior somehow once I get past 70s..Always kill those again and again in your news tab. Who cares if you already killed em once. This isnt a PVE game. =p)
*Update! I am level 65 and I am already killing those on the "Top players/Fighters" list! =D How? Party members and gear is the KEY!

I wish there was a more explained help of things tho.. Like so much inventory, how does that get calculated if you dont even equip it. Like does it just use the dagger, halberd, crossbow etc along with your tiger at the same time or what.

One armor item per slot and the same with weapons/vehicles with the highest item taking effect... from my understanding. Been spending almost all my money on land though.

any of you guys in the armed forces (uk) as a pilot?

hey guys,
i'm thinking of joining the armed forces when i'm older (i'm 15)and the path that really interest's me is being a helicopter pilot, i have been looking on all the sites (army, raf, navy) so does anyone have any tips for me, that i could do to help me get in when i'm older.
If its anything like the US, you have to be an officer to fly an aircraft. Officers require a degree of some sort. Stay in school, try and make good grades

Don't you need a degree to fly?
I know you need to be fit, not massively (Army's 1 1/2 mile in 11 or 12 minutes, I think - it's easy with a bit of training), but so long as you don't keel over after 5 minutes you'll be fine.
My brother's in the Infantry (via the AFC Harrogate), Step Dad used to be in the RAF (not a Pilot, though), and I've worked with the MoD computers for a few years in a previous role - sadly I've never joined .
Good luck,
Dave
Just go to your local AFCO, they'll be best able to tell you what you need to do. Do it now!
What I do know is that they'll expect you to be fit before you apply, such as 1.5 mile runs in 9 minutes.
You should be a straight 'A' A level student with a degree for best chance, but A levels are the minimum
Do some kind of community service.
There will be an interview with an officer at your AFCO, then if you pass that, a four day test at (I forget where...) if they don't say 'no' after the first 2 days. This will include the fitness tests, further interviews, aptitude tests (such as 'you're flying a jet which uses 1 kilo of fuel per minute, and 5 kilos of fuel in after burner mode, the speed af flight in normal mode is 500mph, after burner mode is 800mph, you are 200 miles from an emeny intercept who is traveling at 400mph in the same direction as you, you will use after burner mode for 20 minutes during the fight, you have then to get to one of 3 air bases after the fight, you have 1000kilos of fuel...)
All pilots will be put forwards for fast jet testing/training first, then work 'down' from that
I forget the rest. You should be able to find more info online.

Every pilot I've met has to be an officer.
So just perfect saying "pip pip" and drinking tea
Thanks guys I know in our school we have a careers adviser and I'm gonna make an appointment with one of them ASAP and dad says he will take me to our nearest requitment office. Sounds like it should be a nice challenge for me to sink my teeth into.

thx
(it might be fun to fly a jet...when i grow up...)

i think if your vision is really bad they won't let you join up, i think for the very fast jets you do have to have very good vision. if you can't join up for fast jets (typhoon, euro fighter etc) you can probably come as a transport pilot or helicopter pilot.

Rise and Shiny recap: Crystal Saga

There's a lot to be said for automation. Thanks to automated processes, our society hums along more nicely than it ever has. But should we include our playtime on the list of things we want to automate? Is it possible to enjoy something like an MMO if we really don't control it at all? If we assemble our army men and wind them up, is watching them go as much fun as controlling what they do?
Ah, such deep questions stemming from such a simple game. Crystal Saga
is a browser-based, free-to-play, Flash-based MMORPG (there's a mouthful) that allows players to do a lot of things, including fully automate the grinding process. I can hear the potential comments already, so click past the cut and let me explain it more.
I need to clarify what I mean when I say "fully automated." It's not as though you can tell your little on-screen character that you want it to go here, attack this, and rescue that. It's not quite that in-depth. Basically the developers have added in a system that allows you to place your character into "AFK mode." How much time he can remain in AFK mode depends on a special item that you can get from quests or from the cash shop (I was AFK for hours and hours and never spent a dime), and what happens during that AFK time depends on what specifically you told your avatar to do during that time.
You're essentially telling your character which mobs to attack, when to heal or use a healing potion, and whether to loot or not. As I say in the livestream, you "set it and forget it" like the Ronco Rotisserie. You can also click a link in your quest to auto-walk back to town or to a specific NPC, and you can auto-walk to any number of quest objectives. In fact, you can play this game and level up without ever really using more than a few buttons.
Gaming purists needn't worry; this system is not new or uncommon. In fact, if you have ever played EVE Online, Alganon or a few other titles, you have automated your play. Yep, if anything, the offline skill training that EVE popularized is much less labor-intensive than Crystal Saga's AFK mode. While I AFKed in Crystal Saga, I had to at least watch for enemies in case I was overwhelmed. Clicking "learn" in a game like Alganon takes no work at all. Hours or days later, you log in your character to find him or her smarter than before! The wonders of science!
More good news: You don't need to worry whether other players, readers, or super-cool column writers care about how you play. Crystal Saga is for younger players, true, but accessibility is not only for them. I found the automated system to be really fun. In an AFK way, of course. I liked coming back to backpacks filled with goodies, and I still had to go back to town and sell the items and organize my skills. In fact, I've realized that AFK modes in games like Crystal Saga only shine light on how incredibly boring and trivial leveling-up has become in many MMOs. The archaic system of advancement hasn't changed in years and years, so why not do away with the process, or make it something that we simply don't have to sit there and watch?
Again, I know what you are thinking. "But that's what makes MMOs fun!" I get that many of you might feel that playing the game is the fun part. I agree that playing is fun. But grinding is not. Of course, this raises another question: Why didn't Crystal Saga just design a better way of leveling? Or better yet, why doesn'tCrystal Saga do away with leveling altogether and invent a brand-new way to play MMOs? Good question, Beau. I think the answer is that these devs do not care to redesign the entire process but instead want to speed it up and get you to the good stuff. In a world filled with "AAA," indie, and free-to-play games that are all filled to the brim with massive amounts of grind, I appreciate these AFK systems that are showing up more often. Give me a cash shop filled with every single item in the game and we have a deal.
I've been playing Oblivion a lot lately. We have all probably played it a lot. If not, we jammed on Morrowindbefore that. Remember "fast travel?" You know, the ability to click on an area in the map and instantly transport there, instead of traveling the long, literal way on horseback? We have all used it at some point. I use it when I am faced with an incredibly long (but not difficult) ride. If it is dangerous and within a 15-minute window, I will be on the trail. Games like Crystal Saga allow for the same choices, and I appreciate that. Long ago I lost the feeling that even the mere presence of such systems tainted my gameplay. They exist, and I don't care.
The rest of the game is fun and colorful, including the pet system. I like the fact that the game runs on anything and that there are always players around. Other than those few facts, there's not much more you need to know about your first several hours in the game (which is how long I generally spend in a game before writing this column). It sort of pains me to say so, but the existence of an "AFK mode" is about the only thing I came across that makes Crystal Saga much fun. It sounds weird, but I got the same feeling when I found pocketfuls of goodies that I used to get when I logged into EVE and saw that my skill training was completed. It's worth checking out, even just to surprise yourself.
Next week I will be looking at Starjack Online, a free-to-play empire-builder that has sucked me in. For some reason, the game does not allow me to stream or video it, so look for a screenshot-heavy article next time. Now, go log in!

*** The Getting Fit / Weight Loss Thread - Get Off Your Ass! ***

OK, since I've started a new weight loss regime, I figured I'd start a thread to see who else is into fitness/weightloss at the moment.
Maybe post your progress as you lose weight, or build muscle...
I'm currently 88Kg, which is 10-15Kg overweight for my height and age. Most of it is in my gut
I signed up with Anytime Fitness. They have really good facilities...all new and modern...the aerobic equipment (treadmill, rower, clye, stepper) all have tv available on the large LCD screen...
Also signed up with CalorieKing (US version available too). You enter your age, height, wieght etc and set a target weight, then it tell you how many calories you need per day. You use it like a food and excercise diary so it does all the work for you. It's a very handy tool. It has almost every food/brand in it's database.
Also signed up with Fitocracy, with a group on an Aussie forum. You get points for exercising/weight lifting etc and compete with others, as well as doing challenges etc...really good fun and help with the motivation!
If there was enough interest, I'd start an XDA group
Not at the moment, but i plan to start jogging and working out again (like the past years) starting february. I'm 25, my weight is currently 85kg and i'm 184cm (6"). I managed to lose 15kg last year (and 10kg is back now since i like beer and pizza).
I used RunKeeper Pro last year when i jogged and i'm planning to do the same this year. So my goal is to lose some weight and get more ripped (i'm fairly muscular since i used to lift weights for a couple of years, but no Arnold).
After that it'll be summer again and i'll slowly drown in beer and BBQ and i'll be at 85kg again in 12 month
Btw Willie, how old are you? Yes, we need to know.
I need to lose my beer belly. Since drastically decreasing my smoking, I've gained 10 kilos, and now my face has some fat on it, not just skin and bones like 3 months ago. So I'm actually happy I gained weight. lol
I think we're all in the same boat. Too much time in front of the computer, not enough time in the gym.
When they fit treadmills with 24" monitors and broadband connections i may consider going back!
Copycat.....you know what I'm talking about mate

Have set up 3 session with a fitness trainer who's going to come up with a program for me to follow.
Can't wait to see that gut start disappearing!
I wanted to order pizza when i got home tonight, but i resisted. First step on the road to recovery!

lol...got to start somewhere
So..I'm starting one soon as I know I'm about 10-15 lbs overweight and just got word from doctor my chol/blood pressure is borderline. A lot to do with the food I eat; counting calories never worked for me. I'm actually seeing a dietitian soon that will work with me to form a proper diet so I can actually intake more of the good stuff and cut down on the bad stuff.
Apparently, all the exercise and calorie counting in the world doesn't get anywhere without eating the right foods and doing the right exercises.
For exercise, I just need to increase frequency, work already gives me 3 days a week out of their time, just need to put some personal time into it.
My dad was told by his doctor a few years ago that he was at risk for diabetes, and just recently he actually started to do something about it. He's been running on a treadmill everyday for about 4 months, slowly increasing the pace and workload. He hasn't lost a lot of weight (we assume it is because of how he eats) so I started to make him swim with me. I'm a pretty good swimmer, and i lost a ton of weight by doing it. I hope the combination will help him lose weight. Good luck to you guys.

Over 2 weeks now
I've been going to the gym for over 2 weeks now (this after signing up for a membership and paying for it for the past 2 years yet never did I step foot inside the gym until recently!). Let me tell you it's a great feeling to get back to gym. I use the treadmill for 20 minutes everyday (they have 17" flat screens per treadmill now with 10-15 channels!) and then spend an hour using the weights. I actually look forward to going to gym now.
To those of you who are thinking about it: I've been on and off from the gym a lot, but I finally realized that if you really want something then you will make time for it no matter what. So in the end you need to look at yourself and ask how badly you want to lose those pounds or gain muscle. I'm not talking about simply saying "Yeah, I need it badly", but FEELING THE NEED. Then you will have your answer
Yep, I've been going for a few weeks now. It's definitely getting much easier and I'm nowhere near as sore after a session now
I do the same as machmanx above, I use the treadmill (also have tv screens on the equipment ) for a 20-30 minute run, then hit the weights.
I'm loving it. I have more "get up and go" now...I'm not as much of a lazy bum as I used to be
bluzmeister said:
The more muscle you build the more calories they'll burn, starting with the simple carbs and then the complex carbs, but don't lower your caloric intake drastically as the reverse will happen and your body will go into catabolic state (catabolism), and start using your muscle for energy and store fat instead as it will feel it is in a famine situation and fat is more important (nerves, brain function, and organ protection), and while a difficult process, your liver can convert protein for energy needs.
A good idea is to determine a decent caloric minimum intake for daily sustenance (just to survive that is -major organs, digestion, heart pumping etc.), take into account your daily lifestyle i.e. office work at a desk versus working on a farm, construction etc., and then add calories for those needs and still more for weight training and aerobic exercise. That way you'll have sufficient energy for daily needs plus calories to burn and rebuild muscle which in turn will burn unwanted calories. Space your meals to be more small meals throughout the day versus three or less heavy meals. They'll be better utilized and your energy levels and blood sugar will be more stable and regulated throughout your day.

Thanks for the advice...seems to line up with what I've read elsewhere. You obviously know your stuff
I'm using a popular Aussie calorie counting website/diary. It has given me the ideal calorie intake required per day along with a few other helpful things
WHERE HAS THIS THREAD BEEN ALL MY TIME HERE ON XDA?! First, my (probably innecesary and maybe too detailed for some) introduction.
Hello, my name is Raúl and I'm a foodaholic. I'm near the 300 lb mark, although I "don't look the part". I am trying to follow the Weight Watchers PointsPlus diet (I stopped going after two months there). I am 6'2" and "big boned". I used to go to the gym, but ended up going alone and that really wasn't motivating for be (I could try it again though). I am sure I can pull off looking the best best 200-220 lbs, simply because I am a big guy. I am also a full-time computer engineering student.
Phew!

tech start-up need help raising money- by simply watching short videos and voting!

Hi everybody. Me, my school, and a new start-up company called Froovie are working together to raise money. 60% will go to my school's digital media department, and 40% to the company. Also before I lose any ones interest all you have to do is watch a two minute video (or a couple of them) then vote on them, preferably mine. That's it. Heres the video I submitted: Mod edit: Link removed.
Here are the specifics to it:
The company:
Froovie is a new startup company that is focused on fundraiser for digital media classes, but can be used for other fundraisers also. It is currently in closed beta, and my school is using it and helping them fix the bugs because the founder knows our principal (private school). Basically you have people compete in a contest for a prize set by the school. Each contestant whether a group or individual will create a 2 minute video under the rules set by the school. They will then be able to share the video (as I am now) for people to vote. Each vote does cost $1, but you dont need unhealthy candy, or some product youll never use and can support a good cause. Each vote will then be split 60/40 profit between the nonprofit organiztion/school, and Froovie. Then whoever has the most votes gets whatever prize the organization the is using their services promised beforehand.
Why my school could use the money:
We are using the money to upgrade our media hardware and software. We have on Mac pro (I believe 2007) that works decent and only a few software generation behind, and then we have 8 10 year old Imacs where the best one is a dual core 1GHZ processor, 1GB of RAM, and 80 GB hard drive. We also have a go pro we just got, and a good sony camera. Obviously we cant do any video editing, and barely any photo editing on those computers. We are trying to upgrade the Mac Pro, and buy two new iMac 2012s (high end 21" version), and get adobe premiere pro on all of them, and use our own personal cameras. We currently do most of our editing on our home computers using about three different programs in our spare time, which is not that productive. Half the class has recently got premiere pro at home, or had it for the transition. We will use this hardware and software to put stuff in our newspaper, gazette, and yearbook for photography. Also for video we have a homeroom show we put out as often as we can about the latest stuff going around school, some comedy, and tips for the years, which is enjoyed by students and staff alike. We also do the videos for the jog a thon fundraiser which supports ALL school clubs, and several sports. We also make the videos for the homecoming and prom court, for rallies, and want to work on a promo video for the school. We also switched from loudspeaker announcements to daily video announcements on the school website. In the past we have also raised money for the school and got some of the seniors part time jobs by making commercials for local companies and such because we become proficient with our equipment.
what it does by voting for me:
It gives me, and the actors in my video the importunity to win a small scholarship if we win, and looks good on college applications (with a 98% college rate within a year after graduation we can create more stuff that colleges like). It will also allow us to make more videos and enter more contest when outside the class. Also as part of the prize I will be able to get these $70 dual turntables ive been wanting to get for djing as a summer job (I know several local big djs), and could possibly make free DJ mixes for anyone who votes and helps me get my career in media production and entertainment off the ground with the final pieces of hardware I need in class, and out of class.
How it benefits you:
besides helping out a good cause that helps us keep our class, provide people with better college transcripts, and possibly get a job in the future, you get to help a tech start-up get off the ground, and if we win get a free DJ mix! Some of us might even make some of your favorite youtube videos in the near future, and maybe be part of making your favorite big movie! You also get to make several dozen people's lives happier by watching a quick video and donating $1, or more (you choose how much, forgot to say that).
Other stuff that benefits us:
Others ways to help us even if you cant spend and extra $1 (which everyone has, even for someone you don't know who is a struggling student) is by reviewing our videos here and telling us what you think and how we can get better. We only had about two weeks to make these videos and edit them, and half of them are our first time editing! We have all filmed things, controlled lighting, and acted. But we have never had all of us edit or direct something by ourselves and either tell our friends what to do, or have other people in our class act for us. Another thing you can do is tell is if you find any bugs in the system, since I have direct contact with the founder, and some of their representatives. You can also tell us what new features the company can add to their site since we are basically an outside consultant!
Also if there is anything confusing, or anything I can make easier to understand please tell me. Also, if you don't want to vote for any of our videos, please tell us so we can make everything we do better as much as we can.
TL;DR..
Self promotion, advertising, etc etc etc are not allowed....
It may be fir good cause, But its not allowed in xda AFAIK..
Please read the rules first...

Has Corona Virus (covid 19) hit close to home yet?

So I'm surprised there's not been threads like this already and I know this is a site about making your phones kewl.....but this is the dreaded off-topic area.....so I'm gonna allow it. :silly:
Has this apparent global pandemic affected you directly yet? I'm guessing it has hit us all in some way or another by now?
For me, we've been touched by it already and I suspect my family will get hit harder by it eventually. Here's how/why....
- The Wife is a nurse at a hospital and will surely been facing covid 19 face to face sooner than later. And unfortunately her hospital is a bit of a mess, so I suspect it will sweep through the place fast and furious and I can't imagine she will be unscathed. So yes, my home will likely host the Corona at some point.
- I'm in construction and deal with people daily, and so I am sure to come face to face with an infected person/people before too long. Hopefully my 20 times a day hand sanitizing will mean something?
- folks in my area have lost every last marble and are hoarding everything they can...leaving people in need SOL for finding toilet paper, hand sanitizer, bread, bottled water, meat, soup, baby food and just about every other essential item. Though...i find it funny. Cause if the poop really hits the fan... I know several hoarders that I'll be relieving of their supplies all within walking distance. Lol
- My wife will likely have to nurse through the worst of times, should they come....cause that's what she signed on for. But me, I'll just be told to stay home, earning exactly zero dollars an hour and probably digging a financial hole we will find extremely hard to crawl out of.
- its March break here, so my wee ones are at home. Plus the school board here has said school will remain closed 2 more weeks after March break....so that is good. The kids get to stay home and stay away from the other little germ magnets they associate with!
Anyway....that is how this pandemic has and could hit my family. I'll just say this....before you contribute to cleaning stores out of essential items...take a second to think about others and maybe just get what you need for now and leave some for the rest of us. :good:

Like you said it’s off topic so I’ll allow it I mean wouldn’t you have? I’d bet so.
Anyways, Mike our Virologist friend taught me a lot about viruses over the years and I would say you should definitely be worried. I am and I’m still kinda young. I would worry more about being near someone infected that’s asymptomatic or even just sick more so than touching something that has it. You’re more likely to breath it being near someone rather than touch something with a live virus and have it enter your body that way.
Not sure what’s going on up north but down here in the south states and cities are taking drastic steps in hopes to contain everything. I pray that it gets contained otherwise this is just the beginning and lots of people won’t make it world wide. Hope you are well and stay healthy also bless your wife for what she does and what’s likely coming down the road. People like her in those professions need to be praised ?
They've closed the liquor stores in my state...
This is getting serious now.

Yes. My work place will be closed very soon, as they've announced yesterday that public life will be limited. I have other work I can do and the government will financially support affected businesses, so I'm not too worried. However, the signs for the pandemic were already there months ago and my government hasn't done anything to fight it until just recently, so I am not at all happy about how they are governing.
Yep, my plans for buying a new vehicle will probably have to be put on hold. The money that I've saved for a down payment will have to be reserved for the economic woes ahead.
Cash is king
The spread of the epidemic has crippled my plans to buy a house. I need to deposit more cash in my hand. Cash is king.

Keep us updated will ya? Things are crazy here where I live.
I'm in the US. The only thing that concerns me is being able to find diapers and TP when I need it because of all the hoarding people are doing. Barring that, my level of concern here in the states is a solid zero.
I really love math and when you plug in the death toll vs the infection count, it's probably less dangerous than the flu. Obviously other countries will end up with different results. This is just using info for the US, so keep that in mind.
The most recent numbers I can find are,
Infections: 9,486
Deaths: 155
When you plug this into a calculator, I'll admit it looks kinda bad.
155 x 100 ÷ 9,486 = 1.63% ← This is the perceived death rate here.
And here's why it's nothing to panic over. Most people with mild symptoms, or no symptoms at all, simply won't be tested (unless they die), so the actual number of infections is definitely much higher. How high is it? We don't know exactly, but the estimates I've seen range from 200,000 to 500,000 infections . So let's use those numbers and see how bad the estimates are.
155 x 100 ÷ 200,000 = 0.07% ← This is our high end for the estimated death rate. Far lower than the flu or common cold.
And as the estimated number of infections goes up, the death rate drops accordingly. If 500,000 people are actually infected, then the death rate is way smaller.
155 x 100 ÷ 500,000 = 0.03% ← This is our low end estimate.
If you don't have a chronic health condition, or you're not over 60yrs old, then you really don't have much to worry about in my opinion. Wash your hands a bit more, avoid at risk people when going about your day if possible. Don't lose your head in the process. 99% of confirmed cases have been mild thus far. (Symptoms no worse than a cold, or allergies.)
It is interesting question now...it is a big problem
Belgium here and we're on what they call a Lockdown light. We can only go outside to:
Go to work (if it's essential. when possible to work from home, it's obligatory)
Go to the store
Get money from an ATM
Go to the doctor
Help vulnerable people
Get some exercise like running, cycling, etc. (alone, with family members or with one friend if a distance of 1.5m is respected at all times)
All shops are closed, except:
Food stores, including night shops
Shops that sell mainly animal food
Pharmacies
News paper shops
Gas stations
Hair dressers (max of 1 customer at a time)
Conditions shops need to adhere to:
Social Distancing: people need to stay 1.5m apart from each other
In supermarkets there can only be 1 customer per 10m² and they can only be present for 30 minutes
Food stores can be open from 7AM to 10PM
Night shops must close at 10PM
Misc:
All bars/restaurants/etc. are closed, take-away is still allowed unless it causes large cues
Local markets are forbidden unless they are essential for food supply
Hotels can still be open but may not provide access to a bar or any other space that brings people together
Schools are open but only for day care (focused for people working in health care), no lessons are given
...
Confirmed: 1,795
Deaths: 21
Recovered: 31
It's been pretty crazy but manageable so far. The inexplicable rush for toilet paper has been a big deal here as well. What is up with that? They can starve to death but really need to be able to wipe their tushie for the next 6 months? lol. It all feels so unreal. It's like we've entered World War 3 but we're all fighting a common but invisible enemy.
I went out on a run yesterday and there were still quite a few people out and about getting some exercise or simply some fresh air. There was a massive amount of respect, honoring the social distancing and noticed that the younger folk always went out of the way for the elderly.
My wife works for the 112 emergency central and it's been true madness up there at times. I heard of 1.000 seconds of waiting time on the 'doctors on duty' weekend lines.
@Deaddpool Give my best to your wife as I have the utmost respect for everyone working in health care these days. Now more than ever, they are the true heroes of the world! Wishing the best for you and your family.

The problem is your math is very flawed which is surprising from someone that claims to know math the way that you do. But it is also a common mistake from many that haven't taken the time and done enough research to properly construct an accurate math projection. I am not saying any of this to pick on you but rather to educate you.
I pay very close attention to the news about the virus and yes, there are definitely a significant amount of cases we don't know about, which is primarily due to lack of testing, but official estimates are nowhere the numbers you have above.
As of writing this, the US has 11,689 and rising by the hour. That doesn't seem like very many but just 10 days ago we had about 680 cases. Every 2.5 cases rise exponentially. That means in 2 weeks' time (assuming current trends continue) the US will have around 67,000 known cases. and in 3 weeks 100,800 and these are extremely conservative numbers due to the number of different cities and states seeing outbreaks simultaneously. We are prob looking at 250,000 to 500,000 infection in a month's time unless quarantine efforts begin to flatten the curve. The reason this happens is that 1 people think like you and don't take it seriously and 2 people spread the virus unknowingly due to mild or no symptoms.
Another reason your math is flawed is the average time from first symptoms to death is roughly 14 days and up to 28 days. Therefore comparing the current number of deaths to the current cases amount is an extremely inaccurate way to get a perceived death rate. Official estimates are around a 3.5% death rate but it is very hard to know for sure just like you said above. If you look at Italy, their death rate is around 7% currently and they have one of the best health systems in the world. I read a report today, that doctors at one hospital stopped counting the dead bodies.
Italy is a peek into the future if people in the States don't take this seriously. About 1 in 20 cases, no matter your age, and 1-10 or less for older folk develop serious to critical symptoms. Under normal circumstances, those cases should all be cured but they do take around a month to fully heal. The problem that we will face very soon is health systems being overrun just like they are in Italy. Italy doctors are having to choose who lives and dies via triage protocols. While it is true the older you are the worse it can be, but that doesn't mean younger people are not at risk. France as of about 5 days ago had 300 critical cases for people under the age of 60. I am sure that number has since risen just like every other number. So in a month and a half's time, we are looking at 25 to 50 thousand ICU cases or roughly 50% of capacity if it was even distributed (which it won't be).
The 2 biggest problems the US is facing right now is denial and a bunch of people thinking they are smarter than the professionals. Let's put it this way...
The CDC estimates somewhere between 200,000 and 2.1 million dead with 500,000 being the most probable by the time this is over. That is assuming containment efforts fail of course. This means you WILL know people who have died as our morgues fill up. To put this in perspective, 30,000 people died in the US last year from the flu. But hey, you're good at math so you know better than the virologists and epidemiologists even though you seemed to fail to understand exponential math while doing your calculations.
Oh, and uh, by the way, currently younger people have a large portion of ICU cases from the coronavirus in the US

IKR! The ignorance and dismissal I see in so many people is just baffling. I've had a few arguments with people that have a more "liberal view" on the regulations our government wants us to follow. I believe the main issue is that many people refuse to believe problems if they can't see or experience them properly. It's sad to realize that for many people this will only become a real problem when a loved one dies. At that point it's likely far too late to start taking it seriously.
By the way, if we do the aforementioned math on mainland China we get ((3,249 * 100) / 81,155) 4% and it's not over just yet...
@mark manning
I explicitly stated the numbers were for the US and that other countries will have different results. Some countries are definitely much worse than others. At the time of writing that, those were the numbers available. They get updated daily here. When I used estimates, I also explicitly stated that they were just that, estimates. My math with the numbers I had at the time is perfectly correct. Using the numbers they updated with today, it puts the death rate 1.33% here, which is lower than yesterday. I am again, speaking only of the US in the above statement. I used John's Hopkins data tracker for my math. Which includes reports from the CDC, the WHO, and our state/local health departments. There were 13,159 confirmed cases in the US at the time of writing this, and 176 deaths.

So, sh!t just got more real here.
The governor of my state just ordered all non life sustaining businesses to be shut down effective immediately.
https://www.wgal.com/article/all-no...locations-to-stop-coronavirus-spread/31789626
Unfortunately, my place of employment is considered non life sustaining. So after tomorrow, I'm laid off.
This is like a bad dream I can't wake up from. We are witnessing history unfold before our very eyes.
I wish you all the best and may you and your families be safe.

Well again, the time from first symptoms to death is on average 14 days
Source: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/jmv.25689?af=R
And you can see that 14 days ago the US had 138 cases in total.
Source: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
I understand how you are calculating your numbers but you aren't taking in to account the time span of the COVID-19 disease that the SARS-CoV-2 virus creates. There is more to it than calculating cases vs deaths especially when the disease plays out over weeks to a month or so and that the vast majority of US cases have come in the past few days.
Okay so instead of manipulating mathematical statistics to support a particular point of view, let's ask this question:
In Korea where we've seen the most drastic measures taken to date, how many people have actually died there?
Compare that to Korea's population and perhaps we can get a better understanding of actual/realistic statistics.

Sure but the problem is Korea only has 9,000 cases which the US surpassed just yesterday and fewer than half the deaths the US already has. The best numbers to look at statistically speaking are the Chinese numbers and their death rate was 3.5% roughly and based on the insane testing they put their citizens through in order to combat the outbreak, they are likely very accurately now that everything has subsided there. The next most inflicted country will be Italy and theirs is 7%. In about 2 or 3 days' time, the US will be the 3rd highest country in terms of infection numbers. We won't know what our numbers are going to be like for a while but one thing is for sure, they won't be like Korea's
