Can't write Extended Rom

I am unable to unlock the extended ROM and read and copy the data contained there but I cannot write to or modify any of the files there.
Is there anyway to unlock the flash for write operations?
Thanks
G
Cabs are read only in ext rom, change the attrib.
The xda tool has an unlock and an unhide. one is to beable to see the ext rom the other to write to it
i gave that a try, it seems that the rom is read only, I am unable to copy additional cabs to the Extended rom.
Is this a Harier device?
XDAIIs BlueAngel
Did you do a softreset after the unlock?
Yip, I also tried the same process after an O2 upgrade rom, same results
If I use the exe lock tool with -unlock I get an error
Well dont think you are using the same tool. Pop of to wiki in the kitchen under kitchen tools. Try that one, its the one I use.
I used this tool
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_ERK_Tools
The unlock tool on the top of the page
I also did a hard reset and now when I execute the cab I cant even see the Extended Rom now, I was able to see it before, I just couldnt write to it.
I found a smaller rom viewer cab, I can see the extended rom now, but I still can't write to it, it tells me the media is write protected.
Hope you meant soft reset.
Thats the correct tool, you need to unhide, softreset, unlock, softreset
The files are under programms extrom tools
nope, did a hard reset to be sure, ok so I unhide with the cab file reboot, then run the exe with a -unlock and reboot then I should be ok?
I will try again.
ok, I get ERROR: FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION - A device attached to the system is not functioning.
any ideas?
Sorry time for me to give up on you. Just to convince myself that I was telling you the correct steps i installed the tool again, softreset, did a unlock (got an write protect error) so softreset again. Thus confirming the fact you need a softreset after both actions.
"then run the exe with a -unlock "
This part a fail to understand on the tool of wiki you end up with an icon, you tap it, "no run the exe with -unlock"
So as you have a BA and not a harrier were we know you need a differwnt tool, and as you are using a tool that we know that works the only 2 conculsions I can come up with are.
1) You have a faulty device
2) you are not using the tool or the steps needed to run the tool in the correct manor.

Extended_ROM Read Only - Can't Unlock

I'm trying to add a file and modify the config.txt file in the extended_rom folder however it says that it is read only.
When I run the unlock tool, it is giving me the following error. How can I get around this?
debug
ERROR:
FL_OICTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION - A device attached to the system is not functioning.
Also the device is a TelecomNZ - Harrier, and I am using the Unlocker from this page.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_ERK_X_Zip
The tool does not seem to work on the harrier: I remember that there was another tool around alas I have no idea if that worked.
You need to look through the harrier threads about that, I dont rember which one.
Found this unlocker works.
http://www.myehud.com/xv6600/cabs/ExtTools.exe
Have posted it in the kitchen section of wiki.
Any instructions for this? (so that I can add them as well)
Yeah it was simple to use, copy the file to your Harrier and run it.
Also this is the post I got it from.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=17408
Some extra instructions if it doesn't work, but I didn't need to do this.
"If that doesn't unlock it, and gives a hardware io control
error, try using a binary editor on the file.
Look for ReIrRaH and replace it with eNiPlA
(Harrier and Alpine backward with alternating case). "
I have redone
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_ERK_X_Zip
Can you please check if it makes sense from a Harrier point of view, if you find anything then just use the edit at the bottom left of your screen.
Thanks
Done, I have changed the wording around for the install and excute a bit and removed the note about Harriers users not having an option to unlock.
Ta!

How to unlock bootloader NOT simm unlock

How do you unlock the bootloader so that a tool like mttyxxx.exe can be used to apply *.bin images :?:
Does anyone have insight into how this bootloader lock is done? Is there any information about it that I can read. I have searched high and low everywhere and I am not finding anything.
Same here. I assume this is the problem since I get "Not allowed" running mtty.
I've read some people are using SD - is that a workaround not having to unlock the bootloader?
it is much easier to flash your device without MTTY. You can convert any type of update to NBF file and use normal blueangel update utility to flash it.
By the way, where all of you are getting these BIN files?
convert .bin file to .nbf
mamaich can you please provide the tool to convert .bin file to .nbf file?
Mine is from MS PB. Just trying to play with it to see what I can do. Problem is I can't flash the device since PB romimage makes bin formats. How do you convert these?
Anyone?
Ok, a blind leading a blind I'm new to this. I'm trying to read up what the options are available. There seems to be different ways for different types of devices.
Here's my current understanding.
If the bootloder is locked there seems to be 2 workarounds.
1. create an NBF file and use the BA update utility. converting the bin to a nbf file seems tricky. It depends on the .bin file if it has a bootloader or not. There is a utility called splitrom that I think can do the trick - you need to know what's in your bin and if it has a bootloader. That's what I'm currently trying to understand. Not sure how yet.
2. Boot from an SD card. I was first looking at a tool called OSImageTool. However I was reading some posts and from what I understand it doesn't work wth BA. I tried it anyway but was not able to get the device to boot from the SD - I think I need a bootloader or OSImageTool simply is not for BA. I'm now looking at a utility called NTRW.
I was reading somewhere that people have had success with 2.
Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm leading you in the wrong direction...

SETOPERATOR.BAT

Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade my BA to WM5.
I'm following the guide, but do not have the "setoperator" file required to continue.
It is not contained in any of the files I have downloaded!
Please can someone send/post the file or link!
Thanks,
Jon.
okay
I guess u read this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=59029&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 first and download that file.
So do it)
Thanks? I've read the post, I don't have the setoperator.bat file, so I can't run it. It's not contained in any of the files the document refers to, thats why I've asked for help - because I can't find it!
Anyone able to post the file please, or at least direct link to it, since I just can't seem to find it - even after following all the links I can find.
Maybe I'm stupid, I don't know - but a link would be very welcome!
Cheers,
Jon.
if you downloaded helmi's v1.3 rom at ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Blue Angel/AKU3.2/Helmi_WM2k5_AKU3.2_32mb_v1.3.rar , and extracted it, you'll find two folders named PH20B and PH20B1. the setoperator file is in both of these folders.
Thanks for your reply! I have just seen that myself!
Odd thing is - I was following the wiki, and it pointed me to the 1.2 update (which doesnt contain the files).
After posting this question, it is now pointing me to the 1.3 update - oddness, unless it has only been updated in the last few hours!?
Either way, thanks - I have the file! Incidentaly, I had already upgraded to 1.2 by editing the editfix.bat in the upgradetools.rar file.
I am now reupgrading to 1.3, is it any faster/better? I found 1.2 to be a bit on the slow side!?
Cheers,
Jon.
Yep i change it, because u follow only wiki and dont read the forum. So follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=59029 its a way faster but stil beta
Thanks for that, makes a bit more sense when your new to this site, and are struggling to find your way around!

Please help: flashing ROM

I read the wiki and all the other stuff that I was supposed to before I tried to flash a ROM.
I am stuck on a step and could use some help. I downloaded the ROM to my cpu. I noticed it was a .rar file, so i also downloaded winrar so I could open it.
Execute the .exe file you downloaded with the ROM. (If the ROM you downloaded only comes with an nbh file, download the CustomRUU for the Kaiser here. Put KaiserCustomRUU.exe and you nbh in the same directory and run KaiserCustomRUU.exe)
Click to collapse
I cant get past this step. Can someone please advise.
don't know why u would get stuck ...
create new folder and place the .nbh and kaisercustomruu.exe in same folder on pc. make sure phone connected to pc via active sync and connection is established (icon turns green in actuve sync). now run the kaisercustomruu.exe from pc and let the action began.
p.s. i do sincerely hope u flashed hardspl onto ur device be4 flashing. don't know what that is? plz stop flashing and read wiki again for ur sake.
People just don't read. Did you try extracting the contents in Winrar to your desktop?
I did the hardspl already.
when i try to extract the folders it asks me for a password.

passwords are usually located on the first or second post of the rom you are trying to flash.
Found it. thanx!
Mod Note: This question should have been posted in the thread specific to the Rom you downloaded in the ROM Development Forum.
New thread for existing issue is a no-no.
