This topic may be a bit premature seeing how manilla 2d is still in it's beta stages but...
I havn't tryed Manilla 2d yet but for everyone who has, what do you like/dislike about it? Would you prefer it over Htc Home? Why would you? I'm using Htc Home right now. Especially with the nice Htc Customizer.
I suggest you try it first, before creating a thread - it only takes 5 minutes..
and to answer your question I prefer Home.
Manila absolutely no question about it. Seriously, this is like asking if one prefers a bumper car or a real car. Just my .02 but i think you'll find most will choose manila.
over Manilla
I found this thread while looking for a non Manilla ROM after being annoyed by the screen rotation to not want to use it any more.
Looked cool initially...
it looks cool and stuff but i changed back from manilla to the htc home because manilla had to many bugs

Search for AthineOS. He made two roms, one for manilla and one for htc home. Rom is superfast. I also suggest Duttys_WM6[1].1_5.2.19700_Hybrid_V2 rom. Not so lite as AthineOS rom, it's a very good rom and always had decent battery life no matter what radio u used...
Back to topic..
This is exactly what i wanted. So far poll is 2-2. I think Manilla will outweigh HHome once all the bugs are tweaked and landscape = 100% other than the quick fix he has out right now. In any case, they are both really nice apps to have for our today screen and for the authors to have many donations going there way..
Home until the bugs are sorted although have recently fiddled with mobile shell and throttle launcher. I find I keep going back to home with ultimate launch.

Great analogy mate haha
I figured I would try Manila2D for a day and then go back to HTC Home when it first came out in a Rom but from the moment I first used it I fell in love with the feel and ease of use. You can navigate through all the menus using your finger or DPad as prefered whereas Home tended to be very fiddly and I was always using my stylus or the start menu to get where I wanted. Im using SJ's OPAL build 11th Oct now and I have absolutely no bugs and its extremely fast and responsive. In my experience most of the people who have experienced problems in the latest builds have been down to bad flashes. I always advise everyone to shut down all other programs and keep the Rom update program in the foreground when flashing and to take out the sim card to avoid all posibility of glitches occuring.
Manila wins hands down anyday.
I use neither, because:
1. Manilla vanilla, shmanilla. Sheesh, if I wanted a touchflo device I would buy a Touch Pro/HD or something like that. Every second thread in development and hacking is about manilla something or other. Enough already.
2. I HATE fingerprints, smears, etc on my screen.
3. HTC Home requires far too much Today real estate!
This is my setup:
PhoneAlarm Pro with B&W pure Skin (small footprint)
PDC (Pocket Digital Clock) with Alien Round fonts
Sun n Moon
Homescreen ++ (Ex Batterystatus) with Tray Icons activated.
SPB Traveller
TodayAgenda
And then I use S2U2 with an animated gif. That's it.
I use manilla. I love the customization of it. I love using my fingers to get to the things I use. I alos love the themes I can make. Home just never appealled to me at all. I was lucky enough not to have my phone bit for a week or two before M2d came out.
I use Manilla. It's attractive, responsive, and well laid-out. It's not perfect, though -- I find the built-in weather app pretty weak and I like Live Search better than Google Maps. But even with those complaints, I still prefer Manilla.
You forgot the "None" option. No matter how hard I try, I keep going mad at those "newfangled" interfaces - both of them - and end deactivating them after 1 hour.
Good'ole today plugins and Quickmenu rule.
MANILLA!
If I wanted things plain ole, I'd buy a flip phone or something. Manilla looks great, works great and I wouldn't have anything else.
The new ThrottleLauncher 0.9.5 Beta destroys Manilla. I cannot stand how hard it is to customize Manilla (not graphically), where ThrottleLauncher can be customized very easily. The lastest release is quite fast!

Yes you can always buy a new device with TouchFLO but roms are something free.
I have used Manila for a few weeks and, trust me, you won't have fingerprints on your screen unless your fingers are sweaty. You will always wipe away your fingerprints with touchs

I'm definitely keeping my eye on ThrottleLauncher. I like it a lot in concept, and customizability is great. But my experimenting with the 0.9.5 Beta didn't impress me much. It still felt a little sluggish and I just couldn't control it as accurately and quickly as manilla.
I need to try loading it onto a lighter ROM and doing a little customization.

Make sure you installed NetCF 3.5, and that apps are set to use it as defualt. I turned off all the transarency and went into the vars.xml and set my fps to 30 (because the editor is 20 max). It's smooth and quick.
PM me if you want the NetCF 3.5 standalone cab and NetCF config tool cab. I don't want to hijack this thread more than I already have.
why doesnt a chef put the new TL on a rom ...that would be so cool
I like having all my info available to me on one screen, especially the weather. I have my phone set up to use HTC home, Calendar++, and weatherbug. I don't have any ugly scrollbars on my screen, I have a clear view of messages, time, next appointments, and weather for the next three days, all without having to click through various screens. Plus, Manilla, HTC Weather, and pretty much any other built-in weather app I've used does not have weather info for my small town I live in, but weatherbug does, plus I get severe weather alerts and it's very customizable.
I hate Manila, it sucks to me! HTC Home allow you to have more things under control on the screen. HTC Home no doubts
Is there a unified search program for Windows Mobile? Like the one on the Pre or the IPhone where you start typing and it searches your contacts, programs, and the internet? I'm doing some software updates on my AT&T Tilt to make it look more modern. I'm using the latest PDACorner WM 6.5 ROM (X2.V2), with Ibrythill's WM 7 Titanium Project, TaskFacade, and a couple of other programs to breath a lot of life in my phone. A unified search is the only thing my phone is missing to compete with the new phones that are out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
I read some links I could find in google ("windows mobile 6.1 vs. 6.5") and...
What are really usable improvements of 6.5 over 6.1 that makes life easier? If I use Manila most of the time - no difference what OS runs behind it. My email client (I guess email client in 6.1 is made by Microsoft) is also good enough.
I don't think that 6.5 runs a bit faster. Same OS with just a different GUI.
So way to wait for 6.5?
Any updates when it will be officially released? October?
I read somewhere that HTC won't release 6.5 for old devices (like Touch HD). No changes here? Still same position at HTC?
Hi.... I had the same question and tried out WM6.5 for about a month. I did not see any tangible improvement over WM6.1 and when I switched back I did notice more smoother and quicker operation under 6.1
My personal recommendation is to stick to 6.1 mate!
I haven't really noticed any usable improvements in WM6.5 (however the latest versions are adding more finger friendly softkeys/close/start/keyboard buttons). There is of course the new Titanium Home Screen which is a great improvement over the standard home screen, but I still don't find it as useful as Manila.
I keep going back to the 6.1 roms as they seem to be snappier, and 6.5 still feels too buggy in my opinion. Each to their own.
Hi,
Thanks for your opinions. Seems that I'm not the only one who doesn't understand the hype of v6,5.
If used without Manila - of course 6,5 is better. But as we all use HTC GUI - no sense of installing 6,5.
I like the in-built kinetic scrolling of WM6.5 and the more intuitive Start menu, especially when the cooked ROM has made it more organised. If you only ever touch Manila, then it's probably not worth going with WM6.5. However, if you do like everything to flow more smoothly and be more "finger friendly" then go with WM6.5

What is not "finger friendly" in Win6.1+Manila? I don't use Stylus at all.. so I think everything's more or less friendly in Manila.
What I wanted to say is: when you use Manila - you don't see operating system behind it.
And is really native Win6.5 GUI better/more intuitive/faster than Manila?
try " because it is a newer version " for the reason why folks like lol
I dont like manila (too restrictive) and use the SPB shell. As you're probably aware, the shell falls back to winmo for many functions and in that regard, i much prefer the 6.5 interface when you're "outside" of the shell.
xxx045+ builds look to be even better.
Frankly the telstra rom was a bit of a dog anyway, although i'll admit ive not tried any cooked 6.1 roms.
personally ... i more on 6.1 coz im create my own ROM base on that...
6.5 still buggy .. so im not plan on that.
This is personal taste, some prefer wm6.1 and some wm6.5. Not everyone is going to agree on this as everyone has different opinions/tastes.
People are waiting for the official release of wm6.5 as currently all cooked roms using wm6.5 are using leaked/beta versions, so the final product should hopefully be more stable.
I'm still not aware of any official release date for wm6.5, though autumn/winter of this year would be a good bet.
HTC won't be releasing wm6.5 for the HD, but once its officially released, don't worry you'll find that version on the HD
As title of this thread is opinionated I am closing this thread
I keep going back and forth between the two on my Imagio, but I think once we get TF3D 2.5 I'll be able to stick with HTC's software. Question is: Will the Imagio handle it well?
BTW thanks for the resource here!
me too, I have been going back in forth between the current touchflo version on the Imagio and SPB Mobile Shell.
Has anyone come up with a tweak yet for touch flo 3d 2.5 for the Imagio.
SPB MS 3.5 for me
I have been playing with TouchFlo since the first version on the HTC Touch and it is just too much work. I downloaded MS3.5 and I couldn't be happier. It takes up fewer resources and the customization is as easy as dragging and dropping. I use the leisure theme with a five panel widget home screen. You can add picture frames as widgets among other cool items. The contact management is integrated with Facebook automatically and the smart dial is awesome. If I decide I want to do custom icons later, I can get as deep into the xml component as I want.

See, now, I get the whole "pretty" thing with this shell, but I found it to be just too confusing because it has a lot of redundancies. On the other hand, TouchFlo by HTC is really powerful, but it needs more "clues" to find all of its functionality. Idunno..I just wish we could get this thing hspl unlocked so that the gurus can start cooking up some new roms..
TF3D does not work for me. I need to quickly check email and delete tehm on the fly and access many parts of the phone. Why cant we load the new Sense UIon the Imagio. MS 3.5 is great but the contacts and dialer are badly broken. I cant search for contacts easily by typing parts of the name (only searches file as field) and from the dialer screen you cannot get into the details of a contact to E.G. select an alternate number to dial.
I have been trying both on my new imagio, and am currently sticking with SPBMS3.5. The main reason is that for some reason, the text messaging interface with TF3D messes up my ability to rotate to landscape when replying to a message. I am not sure why...
I have hard reset, and it works for a short period of time, because it seems to be using the standard Winmo texting interface. After receiving a message from a contact, the interface seems to switch to a custom TF3D version, and I can no longer use the landscape keyboard.
Plus I like that I can have virtually all the things I need on a sweetly configured main screen at one tap.
My two cents...
Gary
The folks over at PPCGeeks have unlocked the Imagio! And there are a number of ROMs already ready for flashing. As for TF3D and Mobile Shell, I have found no issues with TF, and with the new Cookies home tabs, its even easier for me. I tried that mobile shell, and there were too many reduntant applications, and by the time I got what I wanted set up, it was several pages between what I really needed and what I needed to go through. That, and after a couple days, my phone started to really get buggy. I finally gave up and went back to TF.
Now, that was before flashing to an Energy ROM. Things are much better now! Check out PPCGeeks HTC Imagio section, several ROMS there waiting for you!
You know I just saw those this weekend and they look very promising! Especially the MaxManilla on the horizon. I am not sure whether to go with Manilla or Cookies...Any thoughts?
As for the TF3D and texting, I did some googling and found the fix. Sorry, but I can't remember, but I think it was on PPCGeeks. Had to add some manilla reg values and change one other and voila! It works now. Still not sure if I like TF3D better than SPB, but I am giving it a shot. What I do like is that SPB can have multiple weather cities. I don't think that I like the 3D mail reader on either app.
Thanks again for the tips.
Gary
Hi everyone,
I'm the (proud?) owner of a HTC Blackstone 'Touch HD', and nowadays I don't know what to think about my phone. Of course, I've done all the flashing and tweaking, but it's still not satisfying me. Although the Blackstone Android development seems very promising to me, I also have my doubts about a 'final' build in the future.
The real problem I have is slow texting, Opera opening slow and I am just dealing with an in-responsive system.
The HTC Touch HD is obviously a very slow phone, having tried different ROMs (Topix, Energy, Miri, Dutty and some more), both Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5. I fell in love for the agenda of 6.5 (the Sense edition, I have no clue if it's implanted in WM), so I don't want to ever go back to 6.1. Though, I realize that, if I want a faster phone, I should probably go back and downgrade my phone. What I am looking for is a ROM which satisfy me with speed and agility (no restarts all the time, because memory is slipping), and can provide me my valuable agenda in a pleasant way.
I would like if some of you could give me some valuable advise. Because I'm about to throw my phone in the trashcan.
Before you are confronting me with some of the greatest ROMs; I'm not 'really' in love with Sense UI, and if turning it off and using the standard WM 6.5 menu, speeds up my phone, I will do it. But is the build-in agenda satisfying enough for my needs?
In the far future I probably will buy an iPhone 3GS (4G?), just for the fact that is a phone which doens't crash and goes slow all the time. I will be throwing a little tweaker inside of me away, sadly.
Regards,
Aram (the Netherlands)
Currently using: Miri WM 6.5 | 18.0 WWE with Manila version 2.5.19222911.0 and Radio version 1.17.25.09 (should I update this?). Using an Exchange-server for my e-mail and agenda (Google Mail)!
Did you try searchig for a Calendar-Agenda Application to install before Upgrading or downgrading your phone's core software? Custom Rom don't bring anything new that Blackstone could do already as it came out of the box, imho. Then again other people do like to customize it a lot. if you do want to bin your phone, send it my way, I'll give it a home.
What I really liked about the WM6.5 roms was and still is the fact that in a single click I can look up my appointments and notes.
You are quite right about the 'why would you flash'-thing. Sometimes I've the feeling that I really downgraded my phone, instead of giving it the boost I intended to.
Again this is an opinionated query which is frowned upon in XDA as people will have different views on which is best creating endless long threads with no real result. For these reasons I am closng this thread
