Auto Localizer to Far east language for WM2003 or later!

i have finished to creat CAB files to make far east language support in your PPC.
Those make your devices to allow encoding in the Pocket Internet Explore/Inbox,and can select Far east loactions from the "Regional Settings" and also any other Far east language applications can be allowed to be installed and work in your PPC with western language OS.
(not to replace the interfaces of OS to Far east languages)
Still you can use other western languages as before.
Now i made 2 versions for that.
one is to add Only Jpanese support to your devise.
which names [Asukal Lets Japan.cab] 4.4MB
the other is to add Chinese(both of Simple/Traditional) and Japnese support. which named [Asukal e-china.cab] 10MB
*contain the [wince.nls] file(encoding system), and font,and relative registries, but registry will be register automaticaly.
*How to install; DL and copy to your divice this cab, and just tap it.
The installation will be started and to procceed install.

@@@You can find those cabs name in the [Remove Programs],
but you can not uninstall it. You have to hard reset to recover to previouse condition. PLS pay attention! and as your own lisk!

Which fonts are you using Asukal? I'm doing similar method as you but I'm using Knife Chinese's fonts which is only 2.xMb in size. And the fonts actually looks pretty good. My Chinese/Japanese nls and font file is less than 4mb in size....

Fonts
i am using Minglu font for the Chinese/Jpanese one.
Yes i knew minglu is very large(8MB) and Sunglobe is smaller than it.
But acturaly, those for my self and japanese guys, and the Sunglobe fonts has japanese chalactor and it was too AGRY for me! i cant stand for using that! (i mean japanese chalactor in Sunglobe) I knew all of Japan Guys same as me, cant love Sunglobe's Kata/Hira Kana.
Thats why i am using Minglu.The Old version of Unisung font for PPC2002 in Knife had very nice Japanese chalactor and very smaller.,but it was bitmap fonts and cant be used in PPC2003.
If you know unicde true type font(CJ font) with nice Japanese chalactor, pls let me know!

1st, i just want to see (read only) jpnese n chinese character in pocket IE (browsing net) AND in MSN (i have some friend using jpnese character as nick name). is this possible using your cab?? i use xda mini, WM2003SE
im still confuse, will this cab make my english operating system change to japanese? or it will just show chinese n japanese in IE?
2nd, can i use the smaller font? im not japanese so i think as long i can see correct jpnese n chinese character, i will be happy enough. i mean, now i see only unrecognice characters (square boxes). i saw sunglobe and knife font, can i use them with WM2003? if yes, how??

It just make it enable to encode & font link to JP/CN, not change OS to Jpanese or chinese.
the Applications need to encoding are Inbox and IE.
And you can use this cab to do.

If you want to use samaller font, yes you can!
but you dont have to use cab file, but use the way of replacing wince.nls file and also change the font registry as you want.
Encoding was controled by the file [wince.nls] in windows folder.

re:3rd Question
You can delete files which were installed by CAB by manualy.
Or can uninstall from Controle panel---Remove programs,
but after you uninstalled, you have to fix the fnt registry to enable to link another font before soft reset. other wize, the chalactor cant be loaded after soft reset.
So i suggest to hard reset instead to do that. because i cant instruct correctly and afraid friends will be fail it.

want to view chinese websites and musics

i have an english touch diamond nam. i don't really want to change the whole operating system to chinese but i just want to be able to view websites that are written in traditional chinese and songs with traditional chinese names. is there any way that i can do that?

Maybe it's sufficient to copy a Chinese font from your desktop windows to your Diamond. If this doesn't help, you'll have to install a IME cab, which will also enable you to input Chinese characters. But try the font first, it might work.

search the internet for CE_Star_R3. download then install. After reset, you can read Simplified or Traditional Chinese

i am using A4 2.9

you need to go to MS contact instead of HTC people,.. it seems HTC people does not allow chinese in the name field

for me, chinese characters displayed perfected in ny HD, including but not limited to HTC People.
which chinese language pack u r using?
btw, A4 released a new QQpinyin input for wm which include stroke input, u can make a try first.

Second, ewww yuck, stroke input? Isn't that for old people who were educated before PinYin?
Third, you should be able to input Chinese for new contacts. The problem is that HTC changed the font that they use for those screens and most chinese font cabs don't font link it. Search your registry for fontlink and make sure the Helvetica Neue OTS font includes a link to your Chinese font. Probably, MSYH.ttf. After that, soft reset and things should be fine.
If you still have problems after that, and your regional settings were set to China (PRC), then that's just weird.

i found 2.9 long time ago on 592ppc, if you couldn't find it, you can ask me i will send to you..
the font i used is sofia sans, i just install font cab, i don't know how to change registry for font, i changed my regional to english(australia), because if i choose chinese, the display of calender ugly looking on the home screen...

Chinese display support for WWE ROMs(CHT/CHS PinYin IME added, Apr,2010)

I love using WWE ROMs but I have to read/type Chinese on my phone since most of my friends are Chinese. By searching on the Internet, I made a Chinese support pack by myself. Seeing there are some threads talking about Chinese support, I would like to share my work with all of you.
(I've checked it again and again to make sure it enables Chinese display with min change to the system, while other methods like installing CEStar will be a big project.)
To enable Chinese displaying on your PPC, you must have:
1, a WinCE.nls that supports GB/Big5 encoding(Chinese encoding);
2, a font that includes Chinese characters.
I have packed the above stuff into 2 cabs.
BasicSupport.cab installs a WinCE.nls extracted from Hong Kong Official Chinese ROM to your \Windows folder and set your "Region" to "Chinese(PRC)" by default(it won't affact English displaying).
For Traditional Chinese users, please set your Region to "Chinese(TW/HK/Macao)". This step is to enable GB/Big5 on your phone to display non-unicode Chinese characters.
FontDiamondJH.cab includes a font(微软正黑) from HK Official CHT Diamond ROM that includes 99% of both Simplified & Traditional Chinese characters.
FontCrystalHei.cab includes a font from HK Official Pro2 Asia ROM that includes 99% of both Simplified & Traditional Chinese characters.
FontPMingLiu.cab includes a font(細明體) from HK Official Pro2 Asia ROM.
FontMSYHWin7.cab includes a font from MS Windows 7(微软雅黑).( too big, Go to alternative download to get this)
It's not a must to make 2 cabs, just easier for me to replace/update either the font or WinCE.nls respectively. You can merge them into one cab if you like.
Perform a soft-reset after installing these two cabs and your phone is ready for Chinese.
Tested on ROMs for Touch Pro2:

CELL EVO PRO
Energy ROM
AthineOS
Valkyrie FireStorm
Rhodium_AF
HK/EU Official WWE ROM
According to the same principles, these two cab should also work on other HTC WM6.1/6.5/6.5.3 devices like Touch Pro(Tested), Diamond(Tested), Diamond2(Tested), HD2, etc.
Install any Chinese IME you like after you enabled Chinese display.
Suggested IME:
QQ PinYin: hard-keyboard, CHT/CHS switch,etc. but doesn't have Qucik,Cangjie,WuBi version yet, only PinYin
There is another option: PlumSIP(modified by myself) , supports PinYin, Quick, Cangjie, WuBi.

KeypadPYPatch.cab to enable PinYin index in your dialer and contacts. You should install this if you have lots of Chinese contacts.

Of course you can install a font only as long as there are already Chinese options in your "Regional Settings"

Is UCWEB works with your Chinese display support? I installed Rickey 14M YaHei Chinese fonts, it works fine except for UCWEB.

Your method seems too overly complicated.
I posted a method on the XDA-developers wiki a few years back when I figured out the best way to get Chinese/Japanese display support. I have been using this since my first Windows 2003 PDA over 6 years ago.
The best thing is it is only 1.8 megs total and it has full support for ALL Chinese and Japanese including Chinese pinyin.

If you want Chinese input, I use PlumSIP and it works great with the keyboard, as I use the "Mail" button to easily switch between English and Chinese, or even between different input methods of English (such as T9) and Chinese (such as stroke based). I finally got UCWEB worked!! Thanks! I just removed the Ricky YaHei font pack & installed the Chinese support, then UCWEB worked!!

What error message did you get?
GSM 10.1 on unbrand Hong Kong Touch Pro2.
I put this in Autoinstall and it's fine.

Hehe, when installing 2 or more Chinese support at the same time, it will be conflicts sometimes.

I believe that my cab is a more simplified one than that in wiki(maybe mine look complicated by telling all the principle) and I have removed all unnecessary steps for WM6.1/6.5/6.5.3, all you have to do is to install two cabs.
I'm using Plum too, Keycode.ini have to be modified to suit the Pro2 keyboard(mostly for the symbols and "C/E" switch). I have both Chs and Cht version, like 拼音/五笔/速成/比划/仓颉.
Alternative IME like A4 is also great. By the way, PlumSIP had been sold to Sohu so it's new version is called Sogou Mobile IME(搜狗手机输入法).

This is wonderful stuff!!!
I'm using the HD2 with the Asian WWE 1.66 installed and it works beautifully!
Only problem is that since the english font is in bold typeface, it would be perfectly if the chinese font could also be bold.
I know I'm a little bit picky but that's perfection, man!

I think using a cab, you could just pop in the 1 file and 1 reg entry and have the simplest solution! And still smaller
On another note, PluSip is now Sogou IME? Damn, I never liked the Sogou IME for Windows (though it's prediction is better than the MS one), I always use the Google one, as I consider it far better.

I originally got the font file off of my first Chinese bought Windows phone. In those days the engineers at MS figured out a way to compress and simplify the font set of all needed Chinese/Japanese characters for use on devices that did not have a lot of space to spare (i.e. 16 megs).

I can use different cabs to switch fonts without touching WinCE.nls, that's why I divided my pack into two parts, part one is WinCE.nls while part 2 is the font.
In fact the Diamond font(in my first post) is not the only font cab I made, I did also make cabs including TouchPro2 chinese font, WinVista YaHei font or other chines fonts, so that I can install the font I like.

As long as you can find a font that supports chs/jap/etc in one file, you can do that.

That's all about the font. The Diamond font from HK official ROM is not a bold one. You can use your own favourite Chinese font you like, just modify my font cab using WinCAB Manager, put in your own font, change the reg entry, you can make your own font cab.
Or you can send me the font you like, I can make a cab for you.
I was looking for many different fonts but the Diamond Font is still my favourite font so far.

yeah, I guess I am just looking for the smallest size possible, while also including Japanese... I guess it comes from the day when I only had a meager 24 megabytes of storage space so I had to be frugal!
Maybe we should cab all the different font styles and post them on the wiki?

Install Asian Language Support

Just got the Captivate, switching from Iphone 3Gs. Only issue I have with it is that the media player doesn't show Chinese, Korean, Japanese characters. Anyone knows a way to fix that?

write to samsung, and/or use a diff media player that supports those characters. I know, half assed solution. Its just something to go on unitill someone with more knowhow helps ya out.

i've played around with the original galaxy s i9000 and i know that supports asian languages (korean, japanese, chinese), so it seems that the ability has been removed from the phone (along with some other functions).
in the meantime, you can try installing this (code.google.com/p/android-traditional-chinese-ime) and see if it'll allow you to read the asian fonts. at the very least, you'll be able to type in chinese (google for additional font inputs).
we'll have to wait until 2.2 custom rom comes out before asian language support gets added back in

the vibrant has korean language. pisses me off since i'm korean

Take a look at Simeji4. It should be on the Android market. Or you can go to "www dot adamrocker dot com". As for fonts, I'm not sure if the fonts installed in the captivate supports japanese.

i think in general for android 2.1, the fonts should be installed just like they are for iOS but they were probably removed from the rom for the US release. its nothing a custom rom can't fix though

My support chinese characters out of the box, be sure your mp3 tags are unicode..

So can anyone confirm whether the captivate can handle "asian" fonts? Chinese, Japanese, Korean in Web pages, email client, etc?
I'm considering switching from blackberry but it's a deal breaker for me if it doesn't support the asian characters.
Please tell me if this is possible.

Of course, it can handle asian fonts. Its just a matter of installing the right fonts on it in the first place. The international Galaxy S (reference design) is sold all over Asia.

You may want to check the actual media you are playing. Sometimes it's the mp3 tags that are jacked (as mentioned above). I have a lot of KPOP and JPOP on my Captivate and the characters (Korean and Japanese) show up fine in the media player.
I also have emails and notes that show up just fine in Chinese and Japanese characters without any extra fonts installed on the phone.
And for those asking about the browser (just tested this):
Japanese - YES
Korean - YES
Chinese - YES
But keep in mind, this is DISPLAY only. I don't believe there are any input methods (IME) by default for Asian languages, so you'll have to find those if you need to actually compose messages or enter things in those languages. The only workaround I have heard of us to use a translation site like Google Translate from English to the other language, and then cut and paste into another field (since Asian language cut and paste is supported).

simplified chinese showed up fine, so check the tags of your mp3.

There are 3rd party input method you can install, at least for Chinese.

I believe there are several good 3rd party Chinese and Japanese IME packages. Not sure about Korean (since most Samsung/LG phones sold in Korea probably already have it in their local ROM).

For Korean input, I installed Korean keyboard from the android market and it's been working without any flaw for me.

Thanks pinymutt! That helps alot! If the display of asian characters is functional, installing the IME is not a big deal although it may take a bit of getting used to.

Not sure about Asian languages but I installed Hebrew fonts and it works system-wide (music player, browser, third party apps). It does require rooting the phone and a little command line work with adb to replace the fonts. Google install Hebrew on android and you should find the commands (am sure you can find the font files and respective commands for Asian languages as well).

For input, I downloaded the korean keyboard from the market and it works perfectly on browser and text.
Thought the default rom would have korean UI but guess not

I just made it by installing a i9000 Asian ROM on the Captivate and not lose any major functions. The stock i9000 ROM has Korean, Chinese (trad/simp), English on there.
If interested, PM me and I will write up a nice guide to do so.
This involve:
- Installing stock i9000 ROM
- Installing Reoriented Captivate kernel w/ Voodoo Ext4 & HSUPA modem
- Get Root, SU, ROM Manger, Busybox
Optional:
- Update Hosts file to skip ads
- Install Circle Battery meter w/ %
To do:
- Replaces Samsung Glass lock screen with stock lock screen (help please??)

Just like on a windows system, you may need to find a way to set your locale to the Asian language of your choice. The system then assumes that if an MP3 tag or text file is not encoded in unicode, it will use the language set in the default locale to show the text.
Of course, converting the mp3 tag to unicode will help as well. ConvertZ will convert MP3 1.3 tags to unicode but it's unable to do it for MP3 1.1 tags.
