Hi
I have been having trouble with my g1, the camera wont work best i get is a black screen with a camera icon.

I had other issues with the call quality but managed to get that sorted with help
see my thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=522719
Anyone got ay ideas how I could get my camera working, Im now not sure if its something I have done or if the camera has failed.
Oh been looking round for a diagnostic menu where I could test phone functions etc
Thanks in advance

it might be an issue with the camera app, try another app that uses the camera or a different radio. most if not all camera issues come from a bad radio on the phone

hmm, thats a thought will try barcode scanner or something, can you recomennd a good radio the one im using now is ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip
edit: all camera apps from market force close when i start them

Ok still no joy and also noticed gallery does not work either same black screen.
Someone must have had this before

Just an update for anyone searching with this problem
I had to return the handset (bought second hand) and moved back to the samsung Omnia
(miss android already though)
Thanks for all the helpfull people on this forum that have helped me out, will still be around just not on android

[Q] CM6 camcorder focus

So last night I swapped out my Milestone for my Nexus One because it takes better videos in the dark... and I was hoping to film some performances on the closing night of one local nightclub in town.
The first few videos turned out really fuzzy and I was frustrated because this had never happened before I installed CyanogenMod 6. I quickly Googled the issue and found this:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/5336-cm60-stable-no-video-focus/
So I tried the workaround - enter camera mode, touch to focus, then back to camcorder. Worked sufficiently well for my needs, but it really sucks that I lost out on the performances I filmed before I tried this.
One poster reports on the thread that flashing the Korean radio seemed to fix this. I had earlier installed Paul's pre-rooted FRG33 ROM and this included a radio update which is now still on my phone after reverting to CM6 (baseband 32.4100.32U_5.08.00.04). Thus my experience is that this was not fixed.
Anyway, has anyone managed a better solution than this workround? Thanks!
Not sure if this fixes your problem but cyan tweeted this earlier today
cyanogen: Just wrote touch-to-focus for the camcorder. Even works while recording. Suck it iPhone

hah, nice! Wish I had it a bit earlier but I'll take it.

CM7 Camera

Im sure you all know that CM7 has a buggy camera, but i didnt think it would be this ridiculous 0.0. Every time i take a picture, i have to switch to video camera, then back to camera to take the next picture... If i download another camera app, i get a "Forced Close". CM7 is by far one of the best roms ive had so if it means no camera, so be it... But if there is a fix, id really like to be able to use it
Please let me know
Thanks!
I read your post opened up the camera, took three consecutive pictures, switched to gallery and viewed them.
So it works for me. Have you tried reflash or have you installed the latest update?
CM7
yeah, just flashed the update for today and everything seems fine :S. Im not sure why that happened though, happy its fixed

[Q] Camera wont initialize

I am having a problem with my wife's, Atrix HD. This just started out of no where with no changes or updates in phone/. When I open the camera app i just get a black screen with the controls but no camera image, the controls respond (change colors when pressed) but don't do anything and I never get a camera picture. after a while I usually get a camera is unable to initialize error. I have searched and either no one provides a solution that I haven't tried or theirs messed up after flashing a custom ROM which I haven't done. I have tried all the factory resets, clearing cache, clearing data in application management for camera and gallery and none of it helped as other have recommended. Out of frustration I rooted her phone so I could experiment with uninstalling the camera (and gallery) and installing other versions of camera (and gallery) from other phones/aosp/android versions ext. and then re-installing the stock ones all to no avail. I know that the all the cameras were working just a week ago and that the front facing camera was working in oovoo even after she started having trouble with the rear camera, but I cant get either of them to pull up now. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? I am leaning towards either a hardware issue or maybe the camera firmware was corrupted somehow and if this were the case does anyone know how to remedy it?
Let me know if you need any more info.
Thanks,
Madness

"Camera Failed" after upgrading to KitKat...??

Got a strange issue here. My camera was working fine on JB (stock rom & also on KnoxRaid 2.6). After the kitkat v2 release of Knoxraid I decided to give it a try. Everything is perfect except whenever I open the camera I get "Warning - Camera Failed". I restored back to mj5 thinking it was maybe a hardware thing but no, the camera works perfectly on stock mj5. So I decided to test Knoxraid 2.6 (non kitkat version) and again, camera work fine. I have asked Drakeymcmb what he thinks about the issue, but I think it has even him stumped. He suggested I try the other kitkat rom leaked by designgears. So again I restored back to mj5 and then tried the designgears leak. No luck, camera failed. I have wiped my internal memory and tried everything I can think of. I am hoping maybe someone has run into this issue and knows a fix?? Please help!! Thanks!
Not having any camera failing, but I'm experiencing a pretty substantial lag after taking a photo.
When i hit the shutter button, my screen will say "Processing". If the camera moves AT ALL before the "processing" is done, the picture will be blurry -it almost looks like I've moved the camera during exposure.
Anyone else having this problem?

I notice that as well. I just turn the smart stabilization off and problem solved. Turn it back on when you wanna take pic in the dim light situation and be prepare to hold the phone still.

Were really talking about 2 completely different issues here. I wish my problem was that the camera was too slow, but mine will not load at all...

Problem pop up camera stuck outside, Need help

Hi everyone,
i wish if anyone could help me with this problem:
i´m in latest evolution X rom(4.3 build may 13) and google cam stoped working video recording (the camera hardware its fine because the stock camera was working fine) , so i tried switching to front camera an then changing to video but this caused the pop up camera getting stuck outside (photo attached), and when i try using it with stock camera app its works fine except that its doesnt come inside the phone or make any light or sound.
i tried to push it by force but it became stuck half way and still give image but again, doesnt get inside the phone.
I wish to know if anyone knows how to fix this problem or how can i force to restart the camera or something like that.
thanks and any help would be great.
I found a solution, here in XDA Is an app which allow you to control manually the pop up camera, it need to be root but apart from that works flaulessly.

Here is the link to the XDA thread. Thanks
