GLOSSARY HERE? Define IPL, SPL, RRU, CID, RADIO ? (Wing)

Hi all, I'm a noob, as evidenced by my "101" question.
I have done my due diligence first, looking at wiki, then at page for my WING device, thru various NOOB helpful threads, thru sig files of thread-starters, using Google search of XDA, and searching FAQ of this Forum.
(1) IS there a simple glossary page amongst the various pieces of XDA sites? If so, could I get a link please. If not, it may be a good idea.
(2) The scariest thing for a newbie is finding what seems to be the perfect Orientation thread (such as on wiki page for Herald), and "links for all nebies" sticky threads, only to be hit right out the gate with terms one is unfamiliar with, and are not defined.
(3) I know I don't need to give an example, but I will anyway
I find this "starting point" sticky thread from the wiki for Herald.

I have no idea what IPL is, or where to find it. So I go to my WING device under settings > system > Device Info > and I look at each tab. I do not find IPL -- but I am told this is important, and from reading around, I understand the concept of bricking a phone, if one does not read carefully.
So I go to GOOGLE SEARCH within XDA, and enter "Hard SPL" to try to get a definition. I try these:

I search further using Google within XDA and find this thread:
which now gives me an initial framework of understanding "what is Hard SPL" :
What is Hard SPL?
- a custom G4 SPL patched by Olipro which let your device think it has SuperCID (aka CID unlocked)
What is different from the Soft SPL?
-Soft SPL is temporarily, this solution is semi permanent, it will be removed by flashing an original G4 SPL.
-You don't need a separate loader in the future, just use the RUU provided in the ROM package.
Can I use it for other devices than for a G4 wizard?
G4 Wizards only, use at own risk

Now you have Hard SPL
You can flash the ROMs with the RUU in the ROM package, should you have trouble with upgrading, try Mun's RUU (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=52404&d=1190997171) (thanks for the tip Boto).
So no need to downgrade before upgrade anymore.
But don't flash ROMs containing IPL/SPL.

I search Google for that as well. I also search for SuperCID, because I don't know what that means either. I searched more threads, and then I concluded: okay, I'm going in circles, so I am going to post and ask "Is there a Glossary?"
If there isn't, could someone please define for me these various essentials?

Thanks very much. And fwiw I I included examples in this thread in the spirit of the XDA forum, so that it might help someone else after me

IPL- basically the phone's bios. It controls the boot order (i think)
SPL- This is like the protocol for ROM access. There are something like different levels of access depending on what one needs to do. HardSPL sets the level permanently to the highest level (this is simplified)
RUU- you use this to flash roms and stuff. it contains the instructions for accessing the ROM
CID- this tells you whether or not you can access the rom. If it is locked, you cannot flash an unauthorized (unsigned?) rom.
Radio- these are the firmwares for GSM radio that your phone uses (bluetooth, wifi, etc are stored as part of the ROM)
By the way, at the bottom of the main page of the forums there is a dictionary section. Look around there.

Hey thanks very much! I'm still not sure if my T-Mobile Wing meets criteria specified by some of the threads. So, how does one find how one's phone meets those various specs?

ivanmmj -- I'm guessing you were addressing me. I have not authored any posts or threads with any instructions of any kind; i'm wet behind the ears. If you are saying to me "Don't use HardSPL on my T-Mobile Wing", thank you, that's what I needed to know.

Let me rephrase and simplify my question, and maybe you can help me:
I have the T-Mobile Wing (Herald). I want to put a new rom on it, and I want to eventually run a iphone-like interface. I began at the start reading the very first directions from the sticky thread: >> !! - ALL Important LINKS - !! < > !! Noobs and ALL read carefully !! <<
And I see that I need to know my phone's specs: How do I find out for my specific phone:
1. What is it's IPL ?
2. SPL: Is there anything I need to know about this from my phone?
3. CID: How do I find out the status of my phone, if it's locked or unlocked?

I just ran across this thread while trying to edgercate (educate) myself on WinMo-speak. Sorry, but I could not see a dictionary section, or else I could not find the "main page" of the forums, or I'm just blind.

I feel for you, Randy... It's over 2 years later, and it's STILL not easy to find this supposedly easy to find glossary... I couldn't remember where it was so I went to the wiki -- then i had to scroll down past one whole screen and then it appears... Needless to say not very helpful information design.. But, the site is in the process of being revamped, and I am sure this is on the list of things to do to help make the information more accessible.

When I read the part you quoted above, it brought back painful memories... Not ONE of those supposed explanations was the least bit user friendly, and each presumes you know a whole other set of terminology... It drives me nuts! It's seems to be as good a definition of HELL as any, if hell were to exist at all. Hope that link helps... If not, go HERE, to the Q & A general forum -- where they really truly will help newbs with almost anything.. they just ask the one thing asked everywhere: Try searching at least once.... But never drive yourself crazy with SEARCH, especially when just starting out. If you find yourself being lead into endless circles, then ask the question here -- you will FOR SURE be helped.

Introudcution:
Greetings and welcome to my new ROM Thread ...
My ROMs are always built to have the OEM look but not the OEM feel. They will perform much better and the overall expierence for you will be greatly improved. I have made Visual Tweaks to the ROM but left it as an Add-On option. The ROM is also stripped of all Ringers, Alarms, Wallpapers and other Multimedia files. Also many of the OEM Apps have been removed and are available as a CAB install download. The ROM is meant to be clean, very fast and very stable and then I left it up to you to decide how YOU would like to customize it.
The ROM is built with complete .1918 packages from latest leaked test ROM. In my PRO version the base SYS will be the latest WM6.5 without the finger friendly enhancements. If you are looking for 6.5.1 with finger friendly enhancements please check out my FUTURE ROM Series.
This is my PRO Line of ROMs. In this ROM you will find the most stable OS Builds and Packages. Many of the apps are brand new versions that have been found to be stable enough for my PRO ROM. Manila TF3D2.1 is the flavor of choice for this ROM. You will find a Super Light Version, WWE, ITA, CHT, WWE with Chinese Input.
As the Tilt 2 gets closer to release I will be providing, AT&T Dialer, PTT, Video Share and HotSpot Enabler version.
You will find much valuable information on the first page of this thread. Please take the time to read all post on first page thoroughly. You will find many of the answers to questions you may have. If you encounter any bugs, please check the Bug Post and take a look around the thread to see if your answer is with in. If you have not found your answer then report your bug. When reporting bug, report what version and build number you are using. Give as much information as you can.
Checking the first few pages and last few pages is always a good idea to get any new information.
After all we are all here to mod our phones...
For user customization my new favorite way to go is SASHIMI. It's a great little app that lets run whatever CAB files you assign with a push of a button. There are more options to allow you to customize your settings in a very few short steps. You can check them out here. It also is not tied into the ROM customization part.
Major tweaks have been applied to every part of ROM to ensure best performance that you can get out of your device ...

All Fusion Visual Packs will work on any ROM, not just mine. The sliders install/uninstall correctly using the method I will post.
*Notes on Fusion Folders and Icon Placement. My script will delete/move stock icons, they will not touch any other icon besides what comes preloaded on WM6.5. You will need to move some files around if you want to place your shortcuts in different folders.
I will provided modified CAB files of the most popular programs so the shortcuts are placed in theme folder.
My uninstall script will restore Start Menu to default settings and will not edit any other shortcuts besides default.

FAQ
Q: Why do I get Invalid ID when I try to flash ROM?
A: You need to flash HardSPL!
Q: How/What do I need to install this ROM?
A: Please read the install instructions and all related guides before you install.
Q: Why is my antivirus warning me about a possible trojan/worm/virus?
A: It is a known problem with the CustomRUU.exe file. There is no trojan/worm/virus and your AV programs is just giving a fals positive. Search around these boards to confirm the problem.
Q: Why is Opera, Google Maps or other programs not cooked into ROM.

A: No, this ROM is just for GSM Touch Pro devices.

To Do List...
Before you ask, the ROMs will be posted some time tomorrow. I need to make some final adjustments on the PRO Series.
Things to do:
Switch to new system build
Finish creating scripts, shortcuts and shortcut icons for Keyboard, Hidden Proxy, and some user interface settings
Package up all Add-On cabs. CABS have been modified to place shortucts in correct theme folder. I will not be providing CABs that have not been modified if you choose not to use my icon packs. Links to apps will be provided instead for the time being.
Check everything for the 1,000,000th time
Finalize icon and uninstall pack
Compile final builds if any changes need to be made
Upload them to my FTP
I am trying to be done around 18:00 tomorrow. Could be sooner or it could be later.
I have my drinks and candy by me and prepared to pull an all nighter

Major Problems...
After being up for most of the night struggling with a texting bug in both my PRO and FUTURE ROMs I decided to scrap my kitchen and start fresh. Just made a new batch of ROMs from new kitchen and all is working well again.
There will be a small delay. I need some sleep

You will find much valuable information on the first page of this thread. Please take the time to read all post on first page thoroughly. You will find many of your questions answered. If you encounter any bugs, please check the Bug Post and take a look around the thread to see if your answer is within. Checking the first few pages and last few pages is always a good idea to get any new information.
My ROMs are always built to have the OEM look but not the OEM feel. They will perform much better and the overall expierence for you will be greatly improved. I have made Visual Tweaks to the ROM but left it as an Add-On option. The ROM is also stripped of all Ringers, Alarms, Wallpapers and other Multimedia files. Also many of the OEM Apps have been removed and are available as a CAB install download. The ROM is meant to be clean, very fast and very stable and then I left it up to you to decide how YOU would like to customize it.
Major tweaks have been applied to every part of ROM to ensure best performance you can get out of your device.

FAQ
Q: Why do I get Invalid ID when I try to flash ROM?
A: You need to flash HardSPL!
Q: How/What do I need to install this ROM?
A: Please read the install instructions and all related guides before you install.
Q: Why is my antivirus warning me about a possible trojan/worm/virus?
A: It is a known problem with the CustomRUU.exe file. There is no trojan/worm/virus and your AV programs is just giving a fals positive. Search around these boards to confirm the problem.
Q: Why is Opera, Google Maps or other programs not cooked into ROM.

Bookmarks not working - I had a brain fart and believe I forgot to put package in there. FIXED
FM Radio crashing at start - I tried to get fancy and use the latest Leo Radio, no good. See newer isn't always better. FIXED
No sound with YouTube - Working on fix now!
I will try to do the above fixes with CAB file but it may need a new flash.

This is a great initiative. May I ask, what is the correct name. Is it OMNIROM (one word, all capital letters), OMNI ROM (two words, all capitals) or OmniROM (one word, mixed case). The first two versions appear in your first post. The third is in the forum folder.

AFAIK, the project is called OMNIROM and the ROM's itself OmniROM. Hope to be corrected by the OMNIROM people if I'm wrong!!

I get a Permission Denied error as per screenshot attached. Any help (even a link to the proper forum to post this) would be appreciated.
