Battery life VS Rom & Radio - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

i tried some roms, and i read some benchmark about rom speed.
I did not find any benchmark about battery life.
I give my personal experience (personal!) about fastness, and battery performance of some rom.... as you can see, battery life does not depend ONLY from radio...
1 means very bad.
10 means perfect.
Dutty V2.9 Radio 1.13 Fast 7 Battery 10
Dutty V3.4 Radio 1.14 Fast 8 Battery 3
Miry 2.1.1 Radio 1.14 Fast 9 Battery 9
Laurentius L2.3 Radio 1.13 Fast 7 Battery 6
....only my personal impressions.....

just keep your personal impression in your mind..

why? censored?

What way did you test this? Or was these numbers just randomly plucked from the sky?
You need to elaborate and and provide a more detailed schedule similar to this one but only on battery life to be of any use. Or possibly provide your info to daeron.be so they can update their schedule.
What you have provided us with isn't exactly detailed or beneficial as there is no detail and methods of testing and I think stonedge was being sarcastic...i.e. leave your thoughts to yourself as they aren't wanted.

i respect your point of view...
i read a lot of "not numeric valutation"..... some users say "is a stable rom".... some users say "is a very fast rom".... and so on....
are these valutation useful? are numeric? is explained the method?
no... they are only PERSONAL impression, not realized with tool, but i think they can be useful to users too...
my numbers are not random.... i used my device for some days with every ROM, with similar (average) use, and i observed the behaviour: with dutty V2.9 i NEVER had the need of charging before the end of the day.
with Dutty V3.4, i need charge very often at late evening.... i don't measure battery draining in a sistematic matter. Simply a gave a PERSONAL valutation.
Why can't i give my PERSONAL valutation? if you think it is not useful, it's not my problem. You can ignore my valutation.
Maybe some user could find my post useful.... maybe....

I think the post writer has got a valid point here...
Oh and by the way, 2.1.1 is from kwbr, not miri.

most energy saving rom?

I remember that in some old Dutty WM6.1 firmware battery lived about 2-2.5 days.
In the latest WM6.5 (R10, R11) firmware the battery does not hold even 12 hours.
For example, on the old firmware by night, I lost about 2%, and about 15% on the new one.
Which WM6.5 firmware is the most energy saving? (not necessarily the Duttys one)
Sorry for my English.
I thing you've got some problems, because I am using R10 Rom and haven't noticed any problems with battery saving.
may be, but nevertheless, if you compare different ROM, you can always choose more energy efficient, so interested in the experience of flashing maniacs
Well, I am certainly not a flashing whore (I only change ROMS once a month or so), but I definitely noticed a huge difference in battery life between Miri's and Energy. That is, on my HD Miri had a much better battery life, whereas Energy drains it a lot faster. A friend of mine mentioned this might be a Radio issue, but I didn't have time to flash during the last few weeks.
i think onkylog (spelling) roms are most energy saving as they are lightweight. check them out....
in b4 fallen spartan locks this thread for rom comparing and tells you to test for yourself.....
Thanks guys, I will try Miri and Onkolog ROMs.
just choose a lightweight rom (topix, dutty etc) and close 3g/HDXXX. and stay away from energy rom lol
6.5 roms use beta builds which naturally use more power perhaps due in part to debugging code. Use 6.1 (eg topix, leo's, dutty 4.1)
indeed had some experience with the energy roms, the latest I used drained my battery in 12 hours, and I'm quite sure it's not a radio issue, I'm currently using Miri's 6.1 based rom.
P.S.
don't get me wrong, its not a spoiler I love the energy roms, and really appreciate the work done, and I might presume that 6.5 is still somehow wrong...
lightweight roms are not always power saving..onkolog's full have so much better life than his s.lites

Well guessed
IMHO best way to tell which roms are best for battery life are to read up on them and most importantly try them.
But just for info, the general rule is that due to enhancements of roms including graphics etc on latest builds, stock roms are best on battery, followed by wm6.1 and then wm6.5. This is a general rule and some roms are an exception. Basically as rom development improves the battery consumption increases....but the actual battery remains the same.

Well, it depends of the usage you give to the phone. For me, with energyrom oct 28 2.1 rom, my battery last for about 6 days but i use the phone very little time, only about 2h of conversation, 20m GPS, 20m wi-fi and 30 sms in the entire week.
From my experience ROMs from onkolog have the best battery life.
Threads like these are generally frowned upon by XDA as they create endless long threads as most people will have different views and loyalties to certain roms/chefs. For these reasons I will close this thread.
However, generally speaking wm6.1, manila 2.1 & lite roms should out perform wm6.5, manila 2.5 & heavy roms in battery life.

Which rom drains less power?

I just flashed the energy roms, but it seems the power drain is 2 much, and I had to charge in office or the battery can't last 1 day, is there a rom which drains less power?

Hi there,
I'm currently using Miniterror's Ravage Full and i'm quite stunned by how little power is being used. I charge my phone every night religiously but after 17 hours, with 3G active, permanent internet connection, auto Facebook/Twitter/Weather/Stocks/email downloads it was at 62%. That includes text messaging, Garmin, video recording and phone calls. I honestly thought the battery meter was false.
Try it, it's incredible!

Its not true about NRG ROMs because all depends from the Build and Manila im using 21898 build Manila 2.1 Sense and with Normal take.. shooting pictures, some WiFi usage and watchin videos i have always minimum 4 days battery sometimes even more.

I agree, with normal usage , the phoenix version does last atleast 3 days.....( then again it also depends upon how old ur phone battery is , battery recharge efficiency decreases with time anyways ).

My phone is maybe the one of the Oldest one here i buy my Blackstone imideately when was out on the market and there was very hard to find it so i buy 2 Blackstones and wait around 10 days they to arrive because they was not still avalible. Like i say this mean its more than 2 years old i use it non stop everyday and my batt with Super usage 3-4 days is normal.. of course with diferent ROM`s ones when i try diferen ROM i had around 24 hrs only battery lol for this reason from long time i use only Phoenix
I'm using NRG's latest Sense 2.5 WM6.5 build and battery life is nothing short of stunning.
Best battery life of all the ROMs I've used.
[ROM][WM6.5/6.5.x][21896/23548][WWE][UC] Clean ROM v5.0/4.0
try v5.0 with SPB mobile shell 3.5.3
best performance and battery life

i need that!!!
From the responses its obvious that all roms drain or don't drain as much or less as each other...
Energy always has his roms setup from fresh with 3G on and backlight on full not auto adjusted, turn these two off and you get a significant improvement on battery life.
Then you have to give the rom well over 24 hours chance before testing the battery drain, also most of our Touch HD's unless you have a new replacement battery are going to start suffering battery degrade in one way or the other...
Answer is no roms are better or worse than each other...
Hve a look at:
http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/
I run my HD for nearly a week without charge. dunno why microsoft didn't include such utility.
look for this one: nueDynamicClock

NRG ROMs with Sense 2.1 Are called PHOENIX 2 but now because the original Phoenix Thread is closed you can find this ROM in nergy Series.
The best builds and bug free are 21XXX now i use the Build from my signature and is super ROM that have only ONE BUG you cannot add new contact from the Manila DIALER but this is not a big problem for me for this reason i still use this BUILD also if you want Without any BUG i can tell you witch Build of that ROM is really free of Bugs.
Energy.BLACKSTONE.21891.Phoenix2_04.Feb.2010 this ROM is free of bugs the diference with my ROM 21898 30 March is that i like more tha lates Dialer who had the COntact image always on the center of the screen and in 30march Build are coocked the latest APP like Opera 10 and so on..
If its not problem for you this bug that you cannot add new contact from the dialer then with sure you need to flash with 21898 30 March build sense 2.1
I run Energy, I used Phoenix in the past but now I have Leo installed and the battery life is good. With Manila 2.1 interface and Win 21891 battery lasts longer, but I run manila 2.5 and Win 23554 and it still lasts a couple of days without recharging (I use 3G, check e-mail for 4 different accounts, use TomTom...).
Hope this helps in your choice.
Hi farkah, what does nueDynamicClock do? I read the descripsion but it doen't mention anything about battery usage. Did you install that nueDynamicClock and get your HTC HD run for 7 days straight?

Unbelievable!!!
I've tried...
set the clock speed to 380 Mhz, so let's see the difference...
that's a nice app!!!!!
congrats!
so you mean that App is sto set the speed of the clock? so you mean using a lower speed clock will eventually reduce the battery usage? Could you please report back when you have testd your theory tasty_boy?

i think you misunderstood
that program is used to set the processor speed
a lower processor speed means less power consumption

how do you change the "radio"?

Hi all. Well i got no success with my previous post, (my text messages falling into my outbox) never mind!
My battery (1600mha) lasts a day if im lucky. Someone mentioned if i changed the "radio" it may well improve the battery life. How on God's earth do i do this?
Does anyone know if the touch pro's battery life is better cus im thinking of changing already!

The only way to change the radio is to CID unlock your phone, and flash a new " radio ". Some people will insist that changing the radio will effect battery life. I have been doing the rom flashing think for a while, and have never noticed any significant difference in battery life because of the radio ( firmware )

While I don't own a TP, friends have said it is like any other smartphone that does a little bit of everything, the battery drains quickly when you take advantage of all the power consuming features
Re: TouchPro
It's more powerful runs more processes a 3D interface, so drains a bit faster than Tilt as stock battery same mAh, i get about 1.2 days on 6.1/Sense 2.5 but that's general use.
Could get 2 days plus on Tilt 6.1/M2D.

ROM just for long battery life

Hi Guys,
Can someone advise which ROM I am best using purely for a long battery life? I will be using my handset solely for tracking GPS data so features and a nice looking interface are if no importance!
Jon
You must use some of LITE version of 6.1 or 6.5
Which I prefered eg "Clean Revolurion" or your owned custom ROM.
But its depend on ayour battery's age too.
stock rom, maybe (very) light 6.1 custom roms, can't advice on 6.5 roms, especially not with sense
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
I think is the 6.1,and have no manila....
try one of my Infinite or X1.5 (non-manila) roms, they are known for the best in battery life with wm6.5
i have tried almost all ROMs both 6.1 and 6.5. the longest battery life i could get is from 826X Roms (6.5), then 1.5x Unoff (6.5), then pctech4u (6.1)...last night it consumed only 1% from 94% to 93%...long battery life and stability are my priporities...Hope the info. will be useful for you...
Just google nueClockControl. You can underclock your x1 and save a lot of battery with any ROM.
Brilliant, cheers for all the info guys, I think I will be flashing it later next week
