Problem with Rings Extended

So I used this app a while back and loved it but recently I have been doing a lot of flashing and such and just wasnt using it. Now I figured I want some custom ringtones again but after downloading Rings Extended I cant change the ringtones. When I go to the picker I only have the default options and not the option of launching Rings Extended. I also cannot launch it from the Market, I get an error "Rings Extended" could not be launched. I have tried uninstalling, restarting a couples times and installing again with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas?
If you ever backed up your phone go into the folder where your backups are kept (on your card) and find the .apk and install it by pushing it onto your phone?!??!
Try going into "Manage Apps," scrolling down to Rings Extended, and hitting "Clear Defaults." See if that helps.
same problem here. but...NOTHING helps. i realy tried everything. looked up a lot of forums, concerning this problem...like i said. nothing works
last time i had this problem, i gave the backup a trie, but it didn't work.
so my next idea was flashing the rom again, didn't work either.
finally i wiped my phone, flashed the original 1.6 rom from HTC and then flashed the newest rom, i want to use. THAT works...and yes, it was a long long evening.
well, i gess there must be another way, too. i must admit, don't know very much about program structures and things like that. so please i guess we need a expert for this problem -.-'
thanks in advance for any helping ideas!!!

New to rooting....got a few questions before I try.

I searched and did not find anything...sorry if i missed something...
Alright so I am looking at rooting and only thing that worries me is if i have to send the phone in. How can i make it look like I did not root it. Is there any downside to rooting and what can I do with a rooted phone. Thanks everyone
It's really simple to make it go back to stock, just use the Sprint RUU in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=608434
Downside to rooting might be if you don't have a permissions manager installed you could give root access to malicious program. Haven't heard of it happening yet, but it can.
As for what can be done with a rooted phone, the possibilities are endless...
once you root and flash a recovery rom your all set to go...also do a backup in case. there are a couple really good roms out there, i recommend fresh 1.1 and gumbo kernel. there are some really great themes out there as well. as the above poster said the possibilities are endless and in time we will have as many new roms and themes as the gsm users have.
most important, have fun!
Where can I get the ROMs? I can't seem to find them....and with my luck they are in some place obvious.
There is a sticky at the top of these forums which gives a nice link.
To make it easy, it takes you here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=CDMA Hero ROMs
there is a sticky at the top of the forum that has all of the ROMs in a Wiki site. look there
haha just like I thought...It was in plain sight. Well after trying a couple of ROMs i fell with Fresh....but i've noticed that my clock does not display the weather anymore...whats up with that?

Go into menu, weather, update and then give it a min. If it still doesnt refresh, put your phone in stand by and come back.

Nothing. The weather widget has no problems and syncs just fine and shows the correct weather but the clock refuses to. I think everything is set correctly yet it does not want to show.

Did you try soft resetting your phone or even removing the widget and adding it back to the homescreen?
both. Neither worked oddly. I dont know...ill mess with the GPS and wifi settings also and see if that fixes it. that isnt the biggest problem ever. If you have any idea on whats wrong though let me know.
I have rooted my phone and I am an addict. I am here everyday for about an hour. You will have fun with it. I recommend that before once you root it and get your first rom installed play with it for a while but dont get comfortable. I have used all the roms available for the hero except one of them. My advice to you is install one play with it them switch and use them all before you start installing all of your apps and customizing it. I have put three hours into customizing my phone with a rom and then Im like ooh a and install another rom and I have to start over LOL. You will have fun if you like to tinker I guarantee it. Have fun and good luck.
While I am thinking about it....can I make my lock screen any more useful. I find this so plain
sorry for the double post but I wanted this to bump up. Clock will not show the weather anymore...anyone have a fix? also any way to put something on the lock screen?

[REQUEST] BlueDroid bar for G1

hey! i've asked several devs for this, but no one seems to be able to do it.. i want a black bar with a blue droid logo on it for my G1.. i do NOT want this as a MetaMorph, because i dont have an SDK, adb shell, or anything of the such.. i have my G1 (currently running CM5.0.7Test7), Usb cable, and 4 gb sd card.. and besides that, i'm one of the biggest nOObs you'll ever meet.. the bar should look like this:
http://s10.directupload.net/images/user/100413/vlnyc22k.png
it's from the BlueDark theme for CM.. i HATE the theme, but love the bar.. Cloverdale makes Black bar mods that are just flashable .zip files, and they seem to work fine.. can anyone do this for me? thanks!

Metamorph is a free app in the market, you download the file (If anyone makes it for you in metamorph) put it on your SD card, and use metamorph on the phone to do the rest. It is easy and doesn't require SDK, or anything else.
Even cloverdale is using metamorph now so it is compatible with all versions. It saves a lot of trouble making new versions for each new test CM that comes out.
i know.. someone made me a MM bar for my g1, but when i tried applying it, it just said "applying framework-res.apk".. and it stayed that way for hours! i even left it like that when i went to sleep, and woke up the next morning to find it still applying it..

Did you superuser permission screen pop up? if you haven't ever given MM su access, it can't work
i already did that.. i even tried uninstalling &reinstalling it, but it still didn't work
Do you have busybox? if so, I don't know what else to say.....
no! lol i dont have busybox, which might be why MM doesnt work..

Handcent skin mod

This is the first anything I have put forth to share, but wanted to because everyone shares with me. I took the darkness skin offered by handcent and put my own twist on it. The only way I've tried to apply it is to uninstall the original one and install this one. No need for root access. I hope you like it...
Screenshots:
no longer available.
This my latest and final one. It is the same type of skin as the one above, but this one replaces the metal skin.
no longer available
It's a bin file can't install...

I'm new...what can I say, I will fix it now.
Updated, its a go now. Sorry for the derail.
Nice dude looks good. Not a big skull fan but good work.

Well its the colors more than the skull I was going for.
If anyone has suggestions of what they would like to see, let me know.
I can't get this to work at all on liquid 3.0 for the thunderbolt... That's the only snag I've found so far.
Edit: moved updated skin to first post.
I can't install it on my HTC Desire with CM7.1. Handcent is up to date. After the install failed I resigned the apk and tried again but still no luck. Any ideas?
I had problems with liquid for the thunderbolt, and also with a few other roms. I haven't changed anything and it works on bamf forever. I'm not sure what keeps it from installing on certain roms. I tried adb push and that didn't work either. I'm not very well versed in system operations. I wish I had a definitive answer.
I tried a few more times (resigning, repacking and resigning, repacking and optimizing and resigning etc.) but still no luck. Maybe it's because of my ROM (CM7.1) or the Handcent version (3.9.9.1) but there are problems even with the original handcent skins from the market (I tried the Halloween skins). They install but I can't select them in the handcent app.
I also tried to mod the handcent apk but even stranger things are happening there: it installs without any issues but when I open it it crashes. No FC warning or something but it simply closes right away.
I'll keep trying so maybe someday we can all enjoy various skins for handcent.
Thanks for the effort. It only worked on certain roms for me. My friends with unrooted phones didn't have any trouble, so unfortunately I think it just wont work for everyone. I am making another one, but I wont be able to put up any screenshots.
Okay... I changed one more... It will be my last one because I get bored quickly of any one thing. I'll put it in the first post.

MIUI 9.6.3.0 global stable - Themes / Design always gets reverted back to default

Hi there,
unfortunately this always happens sooner or later after I change the theme (design). Unfortunately I could not yet find a working solution, even after hours of trying and reading dozens of web articles/threads (also rebooting after design change does not work).
I already got it solved once (several months back) - but I do not remember where I've found the working solution. Now I had to delete some app data which contained also phone settings (no factory reset) and wiped DALVIK and cache since phone got stuck completely (even removing battery did not work). This set back MIUI to default theme.
Default theme really looks ugly and wastes a lot of space. I'd like to use CEEC theme also since it has a nice weather widget.
(Global Stable V9.6.3.0 ROM meanwhile seems to suffer from other problems: Weather does not update automatically anymore, several google apps cannot be updated any longer [showing error -504] and when rebooting/booting it takes ages now while it gets hot and drains battery massivly during bootup - any ideas on those topics?)!
Thank you in advance for your help!
Bye

Thanks. This thread solved the non-updating Google apps quite nicely. But unfortunately reverting theme still happens. Could not find any solution yet.
Hints and tips are welcome.
The same problem with theme
