last time i was detected 9 GPS satelite, but now i cant detect any GPS satelite, guys, any 1 know what happening?n guys GPS signal is same problem with me?
Mmmm...
Depending on what country you're in, the time of day, the surrounding area... you could get a fix from anywhere between 0 and 12 satellites. You need a fix on at least 3 for the GPS software to be able to locate you - the more, the better. If you don't keep your 'QuickGPS' updated, you'll have to wait even longer for a fix.
By the way, you're not trying to get a fix sitting in your living room are you... you'll have a very long wait
thx for help,i can get the signal now, when i unchek the remind me update(quickGPS) setting, then i can connect to GPS,thx bro.

I have tried modifying the registry to the values that should fix it but it does not fix it for me. I still do not get an update. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dan
I ended up hard resetting my device, I'm sorry to say. When I first got my phone, I ran QuickGPS and it downloaded some data. Ever since then, QuickGPS would not work and neither would my GPS. I tried everything I could find, including *gasp* going into the External GPS settings.
After hard resetting, I will not run QuickGPS again. All I did was fire up Windows Live Search and let it find the satellites. It only took a couple of minutes and I was up and running.
That was 3 days ago and my GPS is still working. Any GPS capable app I run takes less than 30 seconds to get a fix, even inside my house. I have not run QuickGPS since then and I don't intend to.

How can it work inside your house? I do not think that is even possible. Satellite receivers are line of sight. Try putting a direct TV dish in your house and see what kind of reception you get.

Yea I was doubting that too. GPS doesn't work in my house, as soon as I step outside, boom, its on.
It works indoors at my place. Its not line of sight, otherwise even the phone case would be blocking the receiver. However it works much better outdoors. I think the reason is the radio signal from the satellites is very weak and doesn't penetrate obstacles very well.
I have a few windows in my house and I get enough of a signal (usually only 3 or so birds) to track my location. It's good enough to get an initial fix.
.:Christian:.
sad to hear that it doesnt work for some people.
ive used it from the beginning and it works fine. no problems up to now.
"thats not even possible"
cmon... i was surprised, too. but it works in my room (under the roof)
quality is weak (1-2 satellites) but it can get your position.
of course radio or gsm both have more sending strength but they also work in your house, dont they?
hi, hmm.. i have got no problems with GPS at all and to be precize i was really suprised with the speed lock. i instaled tomtom fired it up and then set it up with other NMEA GPS receiver and my device found the signal in 5 seconds !!! and i got 5 satelites in range ...aha im in my house ..maybe cos i am a student and the glazing is single

Does your GPS give you an accurate reading? mine sure as hell doesn't.
When I'm at my home location which is house number 16, my GPS tells me im 4 houses up at number 20, of course I look around to make sure i'm not in somebody elses home. So thats not the issue.
Its also the same when driving on Route, I never get a "You have arrived at your destination" the destination is always 4 or 5 house blocks before.
Its been the same with all the major GPS softwares available, I've tried Tomtom6 & 7, Garmin XT and IG08.
Is my Diamonds GPS having issues? Is there away to fix this or reconfigure it.
Can someone please explain why this is happening!!!
Thanks in advance

no, you are not imagining things, yes, there is a problem that maybe future radios will solve and yes, please make a search before you post. there are at least two more threads about this. just search GPS (the search command is in the upper left corner of the forum, on the brown band).
thank you for yr cooperation in keeping this forum clean!

it is about GPS accuracy. you'll find more...

My GPS so far seems to be working fine, always gives me accurate readings.
In google maps, the GPS when indoors reports me as being just 2-3ft away from where I am on a good day and on a bad day can put my GPS position in my back/front garden even though I'm in the house.
The only major problem I have is when I enable Assisted GPS, with this enabled the GPS works as normal, but after a couple of times using it doesn't work properly. If I try to use TomTom 7 or Google Maps, it says it sees 5-6 sats then gets a signal then instantly reports there is not GPS device, again acquires a perfect signal then looses it again, will do this in any GPS program.
Disabling assisted GPS fixes this issue. Most problems are just software issues and this is the first radio, so future releases should be a lot better.
I can't seem to find a straight answer to this so I'm starting a new thread.
With the JF3 firmware the GPS on my 2 phones is often not very accurate or completely loses it's position under what could be considered good conditions for a gps reciever.
Did the new firmware fix this problem?
Please only reply if you actually noticed the problem and can compare it with the new firmware.
Using GPS test is the phone now able to use signals with an snr of lower than 22?
No, it refuses to use GPS with snr under 22, as long as you don't locked them when they were higher. In that case it keeps them downto snr 17, and then drops them.

No and no....
Well that sucks, let's hope it's not a hardware problem
In contrast... I just flashed G3 and my GPS now locks in about 5 seconds.
It doesn't lock below 22... But for me it now doesn't need to.

Mine also locks in a few seconds, but it loses the lock again after a while. Then it locks again, the lock disappear, and so on. Completely useless as navigator.
This is quite worrying, because it suggests more than just a firmware problem.
To those who have flashed and it hasn't worked, some suggest flashing using the repartition option.
But this experience is why I don't want to flash my phone. If there's a hardware error, I can't rightly be taking it back.
Might get a HTC Desire and put the extra few quid up towards a 32 Gig memory card.

on further testing... My phone does use satellites of 19 to 22... But only if it is connected to less than 8 other satellites.
And I don't seem to have a disconnect issue.

Yes the problem isnt that it wont connect but that the thing often thinks you are on an offramp or a road next to the highway you are travelling on because the sinal is too weak/inaccurate. I tested this with 3 different nav programs and get the same result.

Let me get this straight, using GPS Test, you do see orange satellites through regular use?
This is all beginning to make sense now.
Unlike HTC which seems to use a GPS chip that is capable of 12 Satellite fixes, Samsung is using a GPS chip that can only lock onto 8.
I would think therefore that what it is trying to do, is to select the 8 strongest satellite signals which means it's already at a disadvantage, because as soon as you walk behind a tall building, it has to work to try and find and lock onto others. But when you walk past the building it goes back to the other satellites.
This probably explains why everything is jumping around. Because it's not using the weaker satellites in the distance until its too late.
Maybe you guys have the problem of "you hold it wrong"
when I put the phone's face upward, I got only 2-3 satelline locked
stick my phone up => 10 satellites locked and most of them are green
cheers
No - I have installed JG3 and still have the same problems. GPS is practically useless.
Its nice I still have my HTC touc hd - I get a pinpoint lock immediatelly.
Have you tried to use an external bluetooth GPS device ?
Don't think it's possible to use an external gps with android. How do you tell the os or app to use the external one instead?

JG3 seems a lot better for me. Still not perfect, but better than previous versions were I only lost a GPS a couple of times opposed to ALL the damn time !
Well guess I just need to flash my phone and try it myself. I wish Samsung would just release an official update already.

*#*#1472365#*#* gps test
Type this in using the keypad and then find skyhook and turn it on. This will help your GPS locate quicker and stay locked. I can get satallites in my living room!
*do not adjust anything else*

I got the code of this website. Why would i lie? I've had my phone like 2 days and i was sick of getting no gps so i went on the hunt for a fix and there it was.
Google skyhook if you wish.
Anyone else tried playing with the accuracy value in that menu? It seems like it has an effect on locking satellites but I'm not sure.
Hi All,
I got problems getting gps fixes in Germany (Aachen)
In fact, i wont get any gps fix at all, i tried the app "gps status" but nothing happens.
i tried changing the pool servers in gps.conf to de.pool and europe.pool servers,
set near countries (be, nl, lu, fr) as secondary servers and nearly every gps fix thread i found in the last 2 weeks but still nothing works
second mysterius thing is that in my hometown (Duisburg, germany too) there is no problem with my gps connection and i got a fix in like 30seconds.
i dont know if that problem occurs because Aachen is really near to 2 countrie's frontiers but i really ran out of ideas what to try :/
no matter how hard i try to find something myself or edit the gps.conf my gps status keeps like this all the time (attachment)
please help me :/ (and excuse my bad english *blush*)
1. Try "GPS test" from the market. This app will show you the satelites and their position. If after about 20 min. outdoor nothing is showed you have a hardware or rom-problem.
2. If a sat. is shown mybe you have wrong configuered firewall. I don´t remember the process which get the gps-position by the servers.
3. I had never problems with any server, all works fine for me, but with the app "fasterfix" you can change them and give an european a try.
Hope can help you.
1. When im in a good position GPS test and GPS status occasionally see a satellite or two, but they disappear as fast as they appear :/
2. i dont use a firewall at all, i think.. is there a android standard firewall or something?^^
3. i tried fasterfix and some gps.conf tricks from xda, too
also i tried adding or changing different pool.ntp.org servers in my gps.conf
but nothing helps :/
the real funny thing is, that saturday and sunday i was in Duisburg and used GPS for Running and Cycling (Endomondo 30km~) and had nothing near a problem, no edge or something that could indicate gps problems, satfix in under 1 minute and stuff.
Now, back in Aachen, most gps using apps tell me there is even no gps available :/
the hardware and rom didnt changed at all, i really dont know why this mean little thing wont work
thanks for your reply btw!
You should get a gps-fix with gps-test outdoor within 20-30min without an internet-access. Be patient, due a totally new allocation via gps without server-support can take a lot of time (sat-search, time-fixing …). Sats appear and disapper, this is normal during a totally new allocation. After this you can discard a hardware/ROM – problem.
If this work, you can search for the server-access issue to get a faster gps-fix.
P.S.: Android normally haven’t a firewall in stockROM and your attachment in your first post can’t be shown.
The attachment was just a screenshot of GPS status showing no satellites, but trying.^^
so i will try to go out and let that little mean phone search the sky for satellites now^^
humpf... no effect at all...
Then I recommend to go back to stock-ROM (without root of course) an contact the LG support and send it back (don’t forget nandroid backup!). Maybe try it a last time with stock-ROM 30 min outdoor before (to get sure).
It seem to be a hardware defect. The phone don’t get enough signal strength (maybe antenna contact).
Good luck!
May be you can try ny method because i'm using it and it works onder for me..

Helllo,
Please, i need an advice with my S3 Mini.
I use it for a long time for navi with several app : Waze, Igo, etc.
In the last two weeks, i had big problems with connection to satellites. He founds satellites but can`t connect.I made the test with another S3 Mini, in the same time/place and it found more satellites and also connect to them.
What can i do? It could be a hardware or a software problem?
Here is also a screenshot from a GPS testing app.
Thanks a lot !
get gps status from market delete and redownload gps data and put outside for ten minutes to try to get a lock.. if not and you are rooted you can get lbstest mode and go through and check gps settings after copying it to system and create an activity shortcut using the anycut widget..
I`m not rooted.
I used Gps Status from market. It works for the moment but at the next use, the problem come back.I use it again and after few minutes, it works again. It could be a problem with the phone or with the software?
Thanks again !

are you moving between uses. it is a known issue that if you move too far it takes a long time to get a lock.. that is why on my phones i change the settings from hot start to cold start.. this may take a little longer with each time but doesnt rely on the last position to get a new lock.. but you need to be rooted to copy lbstestmode to system and samsung in their brilliance removed it from newer phones..
