2 questions to the keyboard:
1. On writing a SMS: If I write on the Diamond 1 in the field "receiver" two or three letters, I get all the relevant contacts of the phone book to display. I miss this at the Diamond 2. How can this be activated in the registry?
2. Indirect question to the keyboard when writing a message ... on the Diamond 1 I was able to drag the stylus over a written text to highlight the selected area. This works with the Diamond 2 not anymore! How can this be activated in the registry?
I apologize for my bad english, but I'm from Germany and the school is already a few years past.
1) This works on mine.
2) click menu and then "select text" (or the german equivalent)

I have an Alpine on O2 (UK) running all the default software and ROMs.
My mother has some old Samsung phone - black & white text only style.
When I send her text messages, she'll often receive several, all of which say "Incompatible message format"... I'm just sending ordinary SMS.
I noticed today when I was typing a message to her, that in the place where it shows how many characters there are and how many messages it will take, it said 155/3 SMS - meaning there are 155 characters and it will take 3 SMS to send it... Why could this be?
Does anyone know what's going on?
it's because you use symbols that are not standart english.
and when you use them in sms they are send not as ordinary text, but in unicode - thats' why there's 70 letters for 1 sms. On my 2020i on eng. keyboard there is symbol ' near spacebar which is not standart so using it turns sms to be send in unicode.
Your mother's phone doesn't support unicode as I see... so try to use standard symbols only - maybe on your keyboard layout there are others not like mine, but you can determine which it is by typing them all and watching when sms letter limit moves from 160 to 70.
Ahh thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I think it's when autocomplete inserts a nonstandard apostrophe in certain words that will be doing it then.
Turned off the autocorrect thing which adds the nonstandard apostrophe, sent some test messages and its all sorted now. Thanks again.
I don't know if this irritates anyone else but I have to click on Menu > New > text message to start a new text message. This is rather annoying when trying to quickly send a message. On my old Cingular 8125 (WM5) the left soft key said "new" and led me straight to a new text message, though on my tilt the left soft key says "delete" which sometimes leads me to accidentally delete messages. Anyone know how to change the left soft key's function only in the messaging screen?
And on a side note, I have seen a bunch of posts about putting different ROMs on these phones. Could anyone tell me a few benefits for doing that? And does the process wipe all of your settings and data? (I use MS Exchange and T-mobile settings = pain to reconfigure)
many of the other roms out there are more stable and faster and come with different programs and settings changed
yes you will lose all the data on the phone, but not the memory card
I usually Dial in the name of the recipient of the text message using the "SmartDialer" then "LongPress" the name to take me to the context menu and finally select "Send Text Message"
i use schap's advanced configuration tool, and that can change the left/right softkeys.
(and also some other nice things)
or softkey applet.
happy new year!
I use a combination of the HTC Action app from the Touch (Dual?) assigned to the left soft key using Schap's Advanced Config so two presses gets me to either new email, new SMS, new MMS, new Appointment, New Contact, new Task or new Note.
You can use actionscreen and or pocketcm
I have them both especially pocketcm is an incredible piece of software
Please would somebody confirm the following experience:
Only the 3 diamond SIPs (PhoneKeypad, CompactQWERTY, FullQWERTY) work when creating a new SMS. The other standard WM SIPs (keyboard, transcriber, BlockRecogniser) and any new SIPs (TouchPal) struggle as follows:
When entering a recipient name, the contacts list does not find matches, and rather one has to use "Check Names" from the menu before sending.
Have I screwed something up, or is this evident for everyone? This was definitely NOT a problem on WM6.1 Touch, so I think it's linked to the Diamond's HTC thumbable menus (SIP selector).
edit: i am not gettin contacts in touchpal either
also via touchdiamond's normal sip i can get contacts flawlessly
Hi Guys,
Hope you can answer this weird problem.
All of a sudden my TyTN 2 would not select key infromation within a message (SMS, E-mail etc)
When i open an SMS it will go straigh to the bottom of the message, and when i scroll up it will not put a box round the senders number or name like it used too.
I have looked in the settings to see if there is something i have missed but to no availe.
Am i right in saying that i may need to perfrom a hard reset?
Regards
Rich
When I'm compiling emails on my TyTN II, I find that often my email will be unintentionally sent when I'm only part way through due to a keyboard combination being used. Section 7.7 of the TyTN II user manual (page 134) refers to keyboard shortcuts and mentions holding down the S key is a shortcut to send the message but as in this (much) earlier thread I found relating to Accidentally pressing keyboard shortcut to send SMS, it refers to SMS sending and I'm having the issue with email. Is this pressing the softkey still the cause (I'm pretty sure it seems more like pressing a combination of keys around the S that are doing it in my case). More importantly, has anyone found a Cab, fix or even a WWE HTC ROM to stop this happening?
It's very annoying and I would have though some solution must have been found by now. I'll mention it in a letter to HTC but based on their past 'performance', I don't hold out much hope of a quick (or even eventual) fix from them. I'm therefore hoping for a solution from forum members so please let me know.
For me, its happened when i accidentally hit the send soft key between the R and T. I know its pretty bad sending half an uneditted email to a client and then having to send another email explaining why it happened and carrying on from there.. very unproffesional.
My solution to this problem is to simply cut and past the recipients email address from the to field to the subject field. Then once i'm done editing and everythings squared off and ready to go, i'll just cut and paste from the subject field back into the to field.
hope this little work around helps you. As for a hotfix or a confirmation message before sending it, i haven't heard of one.
I press that goddamn softkey all the time.....
It is really embarassing when you send a message half complete!
Good tip about the subject line
AEBPlus
I use AE Button Plus and have set the soft keys to ignore a single press. If I need to access the single-press application, then I just need to press on the screen.

Click to collapse
Thanks for that work-around, that'll certainly do the trick if I remember to blank the 'to' field before creating the email. I've also emailed the AE Button Plus email address to see if they are willing to make a version of the product that works just with the TyTN IIs email and SMS program when thats in operation. I've also unticked the 'send messages immediately' box in my Windows Live Options on the TyTN II (since I use my Hotmail account through this device). I've found that this puts my email into the drafts folder and it's only when I then send the draft that it actually leaves - it's a bit of a pain though given keyboard short cuts are supposed to help rather than hinder.Definitely one for HTC and Microsoft to address.
