Keyboard failure after replacing lcd - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I don’t want to make this story long last week I took my family to Disneyland and find out that Tytn’s are not Disney proof!! lol my screen cracked anyways. I got a new one on ebay and I followed the instructions on how to replace the screen in you tube all that went pretty good screen working like a charm!
Everything appeared to be working fine until I tried to use the keyboard half of it is not working and (qazwxectv) and I have no backlight on it.
I am wondering if I connected something wrong when I put back the phone together? I didn’t find any instructions as of how to put back your cell I just used the same video backwards .
also some of the buttons shotcuts are displaying erorrs
Any help will be highly appreciated

I have had my tilt for about three weeks now. video is slow and sluggish,
is there anything wrong with it or is that just the way it is. when you move it lags and takes a while for the video to catch up and focus.
and is there any help out there to replace the lcd..
Thank you. I have already broke it and got a new one on the way.
Dude... Look around man.. Come on... Look at the stickys' look at the titles of all the posts..

I think everyone else around here is reporting that the video is SO fast that the battery actually catches fire. It must be your phone. I'd take it back and exchange it for a RAZR or something.
I bet the video will look better once you install the new lcd.

You need to take out your Windows Mobile 6 CD, connect your USB cable to your device and computer, place the CD in the CD Drive and wait for the wizard, reinstall your OS, just do a complete format and reinstall.

Ok guys no need to lose temper =)
Your problem is what every Kaiser out there has. It is related to the fact that HTC didn't include proper drivers, so if your video is big and not properly converted it may be slow and sluggish.
Just read some sticky posts at the top or go to htcclassaction.org for full info on the problem.
thank you
Thank you for the information

App to answer and end touch screen?

Is there an app for this? And does the phone have to be rooted? just seems practical on the touch screen
What do you mean, like for in-call options?
I think he doesn't want to hit the green phone button, but the screen, to answer a call, as well as ending the call w/o using the red End button.
Look there has been multiple threads on this... that and a full screen pic for the incoming calls
Yea i just saw a thread for the full screen pic but i can careless about that.. all i want it the answer and the end to be on the screen so i dont use the buttons on the phone.. used an iphone for a bit and now i keep catching myself touching the screen in frustration.. So is there something? and does it require a root? can I have a link if its not to much trouble ..the search feature here forwards u to google so its tough to use

This is the only toch screen phone ive used and the silicon case doesnt let the buttons light come through so it would be perfect for me. sorry for asking. And i didnt say its hard to get used to it just seems practical to have it on screen.

Don't worry about them. Your question is legitimate, and the suggestion to use the buttons on the phone was a workaround, not a resolution. These internet tough guys like to show their virtual muscles for everyone to see. Just learn to ignore them.
And yes, the ROMs require root access first. I recommend this thread if you already haven't read it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480

I hate to add to this but the attitudes that some people are starting to give on this board is getting borderline annoying. To argue in this guy's defense, I searched for the same thing and got 12 pages of threads that still left me with this question.

Turbo, i apologize for coming off as an ass. Bad day and I took it out on you.
Back to topic.
I would agree with Turbo, it would be cool to have a function like this, however, when you are on your phone, your cheek rubs against the screen, (and don't tell me yours don't ever touch the screen) it would be nice to be able to have this option with an enable/disable function.

Well that WAS a problem b4 cupcake, not sure if you noticed or not but while on a call after several seconds the screen locks/sleeps, and when on a call and the Dialpad is up it requires a "Double-Tap to unlock" on screen to unlock it. Unless your chewing gum or bouncing it off your cheek it should not be a problem. You can also use Shake Awake.
Now if someone could make a app like OP wants, it would be NICE, as I been looking for something like it for a long time.

True, forgot about that. also if you are using a headset, it doesn't matter either...
Yes, the Hero ROM describes what you're talking about. It has a Green "ANSWER" button and a red "DECLINE" button, just like the iPhone.
Unfortunatly, an APP can't do this yet because it's all built into the version of the phone, not an application itself. If someone could port it over, that'd be great!

well if im correct i dont think the hero rom is the only 1...i may be wrong but i think the HTC Magic ports that Haykuro did also had a different way to answer the phone it had the HTC dialer, its been a while since i used that rom been dealing with Hero, its a little more stable and user friendly then hero you may want to check that rom out.

i get what is being asked. i'd love to see it too, or even an option to turn on/off a function that takes the functions of the make call and end call functions right on the screen, and nice looking.
but then, i'm always ating things i have twice that do the same thing. and i cant break off the buttons... lol

I used to run off of Haykuro's builds since he started making them. I haven't seen any HTC builds with an on-screen answering option like the Hero build. I know all about the HTC dialer, but there's no on-screen things that are drastically different.
Besides, the Magic and the Dream have no difference UI-wise except for the tiny extra features that Haykuro's "H" builds have offered.

No screen...how do i change it back??

Hey guys,
I stupidly dropped my phone in water and awaiting it to dry out, i cant take it back to the store yet as havent changed the ROM back as cant see the screen. Is there anyway of doing it without having to know off by heart the on screen instructions. The screen doesnt seem to repond to anything either. I get the vibrate to tell me its on and that about it, sometimes the SE logo in full oclour before it all blurs and becomes a mash of colour.
I have the stock ROM ready to upload (as kindly retrieved from here) but dont know how to go about changing it now.
Cheers

[HOW TO] Replace your Motorola Droid/Milestone hardware keyboard

Hey guys!
I thought you might be interested in the tutorial I made about the rocket science of "how to replace this frakkin' ****ed up keyboard"...
Haven't found any useful instructions on the web so I just made a tutorial myself. I hope it will help someone in desperate need of a new piece of typing plastic.
Yeah the keyboard is not that durable for "holycrapIcan'tbelievehowmuchI'mtyping"-typers.
Enjoy!

Cheers
+1 for your effort and writing up a guide
good write up. but with the two different lay outs on the keys, how does the phone know what buttons are being pressed? i.e. where the d-pad is??
thanks, now i can type so much faster. and to the person with the question. the keyboard has 3 layers
the breadboard which contains 2 terminals per key,
the cap which is metal and gets pressed against the terminal, registering a letter
and the cover where there are 2 styles, one flat and the old version which was bubbled
the tutorial covers replacing the cover
the pink part contains the caps(which i tore off accidently, good thing i had an extra)
Nice tutorial. Thanks!
Beautiful guide! Love the humor in it as well.
Thanks guys, I'm glad you all like it hopefully I'll write a few other tutorials in the near future for the milestone and the Galaxy Tab.. if I break them
Yeah and watch out for the pink thingy... also ripped it nearly out ^^

Try it without the rubber-keypad... just boot it and press the keys on the pink luminative-foil... If the reason was the old keypad, you should already see the difference, before installing the new replacement-pad
I would be happy to do it. Sadly, I'm from Argentina, so this part takes a month to arrive and it costs more. I was expecting someone with the same problem and more access to the spare parts would try it before I order one.
Thank you for this guide. I've done it a few days ago and now my Milestone works great again.
Thanks for the tutorial man. Been debating doing this for a long while and now I'm sure it's relatively simple I'm just looking forward to my new flat keys!
Like you, I was disappointed not to be able to find a UK QWERTY keyboard (with a £ symbol), but I don't really give much of a crap about that to be honest.
Thanks again.
my keyboard after 1.5 years of usage showing same wear and tear as yours.
is the flat-type keyboard better to type on than the bubble one? I've read that the bubble version is bettery many times before. How do you type on the keyboard?
Thanks
hey Buddy thanx for the guide. Changed my keypad n i just cant stop texting
Wow this looks great! I want to try it Thanks!
Is it much better? Just got a milestone and know what you mean about the "sucky" sound. How does the new keyboard compare, is it worth swapping over even if the old one works?
please guys do some review
Nice tutorial. Thanks!
Nice tut, I can't see how you guys are having so many issues with ur keyboards though.. I use my constantly and theres no wear or tear in mine at all looks and still functions like the day I got it... I prolly send over 500 texts a day..
how long do you have your milestone? do you have it overheating due to overclocking?

[Q] - Change ROM => Boot between start screens

Hi,
I own a Captivate on Rogers (Canada).
I had the ROM Firefly 2.6 (or 2.4) and decided to change to something quicker or at least different.
I decided to put Cyanogen 7 on it, because many people told me to.
I succeeded in installing Cyanogen and it worked great, easy to use, fast, ultra fast reboot, nice looking... but not all the software I was looking for.
So I decided to change again to a JVQ SIMPLY.
Put it on the SD, move it to sdcard via Astro under Cyanogen and reboot in recovery mode to install update from sdcard.
It wrote that it was ok, and needed to reboot.
Now the only thing I have is "booting" from
- the very first screen with Galaxy S I9000 on it to
- a second one with Galaxy S Cyanogen(mod)
I can access the screen with the little android guy in the public works sign, yellow, with Downloading... and Do not turn off Target!!! (did it trying hard reset).
I couldn't reboot with 3 buttons (tested many methods), the one with Odin, I never ever succeeded with that one, and it continues changing from a screen to another without stopping but if I remove the battery of course.
What can I do from there?
Thank you for your help... again...
Just for clarification, did you do the Odin One-Click to stock? If you can get to the download screen (the yellow sign / "Do not turn off target" screen), you should be able to flash back to stock.
I tried the Odin 1-click, but I think that it won't work right now because I can't access the administrator rights (from work).
I must try from home tonight.
Will it remove everything like the fact it is root?
Thank you for your answer by the way.
The lack of admin rights is very possibly why it won't work. There's also the chance that without admin rights, you're not able to install the samsung drivers. Either way, waiting until you get home sounds like a good idea.
You might be able to do the Heimdall one-click without admin rights, but it would probably be wise to read up on that one first as it's in Beta right now.
The one-click to stock will put your phone in the state it came out of the box, but leave all your personal files on the phone. You will have Eclair 2.1, unrooted, straight as it came from (in your case) Rogers. Any pictures, music, etc you saved on your internal sd card (not the microSD) will still be there, but you'll have to re-root and reinstall any rom you want.
Ok, so I tried different Odin (one click) I found here, and the last one, from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126704&highlight=odin
I flashed the PIT only, because I didnùt know what to put where... bad idea, now my phone doesn't switch on.

Sorry to have to tell you this, but it looks like you might have fully bricked yourself.
If you are still under warranty, you can try to send it in for warranty service. If not, or if you aren't comfortable taking that route, look for a member named connexion2005 (or mobiletechvideos on google), who can do JTAG service for you for $50.
The JTAG thing is the special cable made from special resistor, right?
Or do you mean it is hard break and only expert can do something?
Thank you very much for your help and your support.

You're thinking of a Jig, which is a set of resistors that kicks the phone into download mode.
Unfortunately, you need JTAG, which is a special service that rewrites the bootloaders to the phone so that it can boot normally. That's something that you either need to be fairly knowledgeable about electronics to do yourself, or something you'll need to send in (to Samsung or mobiletechvideos) to have fixed.
Yeah I thought of a jig...
Ok, I will try the warranty, perhaps it is so much messed up, they won't find anything...
I will let you know.
See you.

Good luck - hopefully your next time around with custom Roms will go better.
I did many, many things with WInMo and never encountered any brick (sometimes I was close to the cliff, but never fell).
Since I have this Captivate, I not sure to really like it, I am fond of android either, and I don't take enough time to read carefully each post...
I think it is time for me to take an iphone...
Although you could do that, I think you'll find if you give yourself a little time with Android you'll come to really like it.
Don't get me wrong - the iPhone is a well made product. But it is one thing, and only one thing. Android devices can really be anything you want.
But that's my opnion. Do with it what you will.
People like you are gold, taking time to help newbie with the always same questions, don't selling android is the best (other are selling ios is the best), ...
I'll see what kind of hone I can find, because the Atrix was a cool phone I liked, and I always liked HTC (qtek before)...

Thank you. I'm just trying to repay the many favors everyone else here on the board has done for me in the past.
Definitely look around - if the Captivate isn't working for you, there's plenty of Android phones that are every bit as good. I've also had good luck with HTC phones in the past, and Motorola's not bad, either.
And yes, Apple is expensive. Can't argue with you on that one.
This might be stupid question but, is your battery charged ?
Hi,
aww.W.T.F, I hope so yes... it was on the usb for hours... you put me a doubt... I need to check now!!
I asked Rogers for warranty, they charge $35 for an exchange, and 5 days to wait, I think this is a little bit too much. But I will do it.
What I discussed with a guy is that I will finish my current subscription with Rogers and take the HTC Sensation with Virgin... Another try with android, to follow jmtheiss.
I will continue to let you know about how it goes.
If my profile is closed tonight, this will be because I will be too ashamed because I had an empty battery...
P.S. Ok it is not the battery... I'm waiting for my new one and will send this one to warranty (I'll see what they can find or not...).
