hello, i have a small problem, after trying various registry changes etc for changing the default browser to Opera 9.5 (i have the first firmware release of x1 at moment, will change it to r3 when i have some time) i succeded to change the default browser when i click links around using XperiaTweak2...
I use my x1 a LOT with the gmail java application, is way more confortable that any other way for using my gmail account and i use it as only email, well, the problem is that even if the default browser is set to opera and works if i click links around it does not work when i click a link in the Java app for Gmail... i have tryed to use gmail from opera but with this java app is way faster and more confortable...
any idea on how i can manage to force this damn thing to open the links i click in the Gmail Java app with Opera and not with IE?
I attach here the java installer since for the x1 installing from website don't work for some reasons...
I am glad that someone thought to post this. I have been fighting this issue with my java gmail app on windows mobile for nearly a year. I had to go back to version 1.5.0.1193 instead of using the updated 2.0.6 version because in the newer version when I click on a link it locks up my entire phone and I have to do a soft reset to get the phone back to normal. In version 1.5.0.1193 I get this message immediately after I click on a link "http://www.google.com/gwt/n?u=http%3A%2F%www.ebay.com" with a question asking me if I want to open this URL with a yes or no option. In this case I was just clicking on a link to take me to ebay's main website page. If I click "Yes" then IE Mobile opens (BLAH!) and it inserts "http://www.google.com/gwt/n?u=http%3A%2F%www.ebay.com" in the address bar in IE Mobile and all I get is the general "The page cannot be found" error message. There are no options under "Settings" to change the default browser or how it inserts the links in the address bar. So, I have been puzzled about this for a really long time and I thought I was the only one that was bothered by this. If there are any good programmers out there that understand Java please help us with this.
just install R3A, i found out that it makes Opera the default browser for everything
EDIT: You may also find the new beta Opera Browser 9.7 useful as it has a "Set Opera as default browser" option

Hi Team,
Opera mini 4 has made my mobile surfing heaven. Good bye PIE! Thank god.
However. I have two queries.
1. Anyone know how to get shot of the annoying "Allo Net Access" Prompt every time i run the midlet? In my Java prog under security I only get "Ask" and "Never Allow". Need an "Always Allow" option, but it's just not there.
2. How the hell do i directly link to a java program, without having to first boot up java, then choose the app? I know this will be possible, but haven't fathomed it yet. I'm wanting to stuff the link under the internet button so I can be rid of PIE for ever.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Matt
OM4 is a java midlet - you must access it through Java. You can make shortcut on Today screen.
As to the "allowing network access", after you have opened program, go to Bookmarks and then Opera Mini - you will find options there. But basically, you will always have to check allow access to network.
Both can be done.
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-...ed-includes-info-new-java-midlet-manager.html
EDIT: I attached the files discussed in case you don't want to register.
Yes, both can be done. Here are the simplest instructions I put together a while back.
http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1270419
And yes, grab the fix.zip in the last post above and you can skip step 1 in my instructions in the linked thread...
The issue with the direct link works fine. But I have already tried to modifiy the selector.utf in both ways, by the fix and by using an hex editor.
But I still get this damn access questions.
I use a TyTNII with shipped HTC Rom with Opera Mini 4 final installed.
The description in your posted link is for OM beta2. May it be that modifications
are not suitable anymore for version 4 final?
A solution would be great.

Edit: Ok, seen in the link of the last post from jomo25 that the version of jbed is the cause. Thanx for the info.

This is all perrrrfect. Is there a way to change the Icon?
if you want to make a shortcut to launch Opera Mini directly:
Use a Notepad on your PC to create simple text file. And it should only contain the following text:
28#"\windows\jbed.exe" -run s1_
BUT you may need to edit it and replace the S1_ with something else. if this is the only Java app you have installed and used, then most likely you want to use S0_ in place of S1_.
Name it Opera.lnk (or whatever you want it to say).
And then copy it to your "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" folder.

Click to collapse
I can launch Opera Mini in Esmertec Jbed with no problem.
I can see the Opera Mini with the same logo as Esmertec Jbed in Programs (I change the name to Opera Mini.lnk),
but I just can't launch Opera Mini by tapping it.
I tried both s0_ and s1_ but get the same result, it says:
Could not find suite s1_

or

It might be s2, s3 or more - the s# changes based on how many other java apps you previously installed. Even if you had one and deleted it, it still counts as one. So try some more numbers.
Also Hans- make sure you are using JBED and it should work.

I had that same problem yesterday. I tried putting the s1_ in double quotes.
28#"\windows\jbed.exe" -run "s1_"
Once I did that it finally worked for me.

Thanks enigmaneo, it works for me, too
Also make sure you ALWAYS check out the Wiki - I've explained all these questions in my Opera Mini- and MIDlet-related tutorials & articles (see for example http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=The (Java) MIDlet Bible and http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...n use Opera Mini as the system-level browser! - make sure you follow the links from the latter)
Thanks for this info... took me to "s7" until it worked. Thought I was doing something wrong...
UPDATE (11/30/2007): The link association problem has been fixed for WM6 in the meantime (see my last article on the association). This means you can already have the system invoke Opera Mini when you click a link in an e-mail / in any document.
Note that there are still newer and newer versions and optimizations (even faster and faster versions of the invoker script to minimize waiting for Opera Mini to be invoked) published in the Comments section of my related blog post; that is, make sure you also follow it.
And, again, now that you can easily invoke it from any other application (including the most important Messaging) by just clicking any link, Opera Mini HAS become a REAL alternative to all the other, mostly commercial alternatives on Windows Mobile. Make sure you give Opera Mini a try: you may fall in love with it. It’s really powerful. It’s plain great –(most of the times) much faster and cleaner than anything else.

I couldn't agree more. This little fix with turning off the notification to accept the session has made it a lot more usable to me. The browser is awesome and while it can be slow sometimes due to formatting the page, etc., I wouldn't use anything else. PIE simply falls flat in comparison.
I just really dig the screen scrolling with my fingernail (screen protector on there of course).
I did managed to get the shortcut to work but for some reason i just can't get the notification removed. I've downloaded the fix, patched the "Selector" file, replaced it in the phone but it still won't work & yes i did download the JBED from the link given...still no luck. Anything i may have missed out?

You, then, can just use the hack described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1666254&postcount=6 - it'll work. Also make sure you read the entire thread.
I don't know what I am doing wrong. I even copied the text from the post and I have gone through 0-8. When I tap the opera icon it opens the text file. I have even tried it with and without the extra quotation marks.
What am I doing wrong?

Did you also try the hacked JAR file I linked to? It WILL work if you deploy it locally and manually set the Blanket model.

how can you prevent netfront from going to mobile versions of certain sites like myspace, yahoo, google, etc? I can't find any settings for changing the string of redirection.kaisertweak doesnt seem to be the answer either.
Try entering another User-Agent string in the Browser Settings.
Good luck!
Mr B
There is a setting under BROWSER or VIEW for NORMAL. I also use Netfront and I get normal viewing.
i fixed that but what really annoys me is that if i try opening a link to someone's email outlook fails to pop up which opera(not mini) and pie does just fine
Hi All,
I was told by an AT&T guy that you could change the opera config file to make opera on the Fuze act a fully functional browser. The problem I am having is the opera will take to me to the mobile version of websites and I don't want that. I have tried changing the user agent to 2 and 3, but that didn't correct the problem. Does anyone know what has to be changed to make this work?
thanks
billf.
A couple of other things to do in the opera:config page. First, you want to change the "Custom User-Agent" in "user prefs" to "Mozilla/4.0(compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 6.0;en)" (although I've also heard that just deleting that string works, too, but I haven't tried it).
The other thing is to delete the HTTP and HTTPS server names in the "Proxy" section.
These changes will get you to the normal version of most sites (although there are some sites that still redirect to wap/mobile versions -- I don't use any of these on a regular basis, but nba.com is one such).
You can upgrade to build 2745
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442252&highlight=opera+2745&page=15
I followed all of the tips and some of the sites still wouldn't go, no matter what changes I made. I followed owziee's directions in the link above exactly and upgraded to the 2745 build that herg posted in that same thread. Works perfectly and I can now go to desktop sites. You do have to make the additional changes, can't just run the cab or it doesn't fit vga and zoom properly, but with my low to intermediate skills it wasn't a problem to do.
I can't stand this Opera Mobile. Web pages are constantly changing size on my, and I can't zoom in or out. Is there any way to change the default browser to IE? IE works much better for me.
i didnt like opera at first but its actually way better then PIE. go to the opera settings and there is a button that says "mobile view" uncheck it and all websites are not in mobile view.
also. im sure u know. but for zooming u can run your finger in a circle clockwise or counterclockwise on the button to make it zoom in or out...or u can double tap the touch screen for it to zoom in.
all you gotta do is add to the end of your web address is "index.html". ex. espn.com/index.html
Works perfectly
You have to disable your proxy for your data connection or it will go to the mobile version as well. That is in connection settings. Uncheck the box that says this connection uses a proxy. I was getting all mobile sites until I did that.
waste of time
screw all that programming - just install skyfire and set it as your default browser through itself and if that doesnt work, install total commander and change the internet file - google it and you'll find simple instructions
Hi,
Here's the link to the Opera Mobile thread; have a look at the last 25 or so posts in the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486502
In a nutshell, stock ROM's receive many post-configuration changes via .PROVXML; this means that the experience of applications are changed by the carrier to suit their requirements.
There are a few adjustments that are required in order to achive the experience you're after ... the link will help you achieve your desired configuration and saves me repeating all the same info here.
So I've tried a ton of different ways to get Google Mail (Gmail) and Google Maps to work on this phone. It seems like all the links to download the actual app are dead (I get 404's). Also the Ajax Gmail app (gmail.com) doesn't ever load. On my BJII (running Opera) it loaded fine just like on my Windows desktop PC. And I was able to download a nice mobile Google Maps application, which I can't find for this phone either.
What am I doing wrong? Can someone please point me to the best solution for these two apps?
Thanks so much XDA geniuses! (I'm new to HTC)
I had a problem downloading google maps so I ended up searching for the .cab file and found it somewhere in XDA-Dev
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=000825...google+maps+cab&cof=FORID:0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
When I tried downloading Google Maps in Opera it downloaded some Java version of it. Try using Internet Explorer to download google maps. www.google.com/gmm
the WM cab is here: http://www.google.com/gmm/GoogleMaps.CAB
from: http://www.google.com/mobile/default/maps.html

I'll be damned. I get a 404 not found when I hit the link to the cab file directly from Opera, and if I hit it in firefox on my desktop PC, it downloads. WTF?

Sounds like the AT&T proxy again. Type "opera:config" into your Opera address bar and go to the "Proxy" section. Uncheck "Use HTTP" and "USE HTTPS". Google sites (and a whole bunch of others) will work properly. You may have to re-enable the proxy for some internal AT&T sites.
Why can't AT&T use a proxy that doesn't make complete hash of the HTML it's proxying for?

Hi guys,
I'm having the same problem, and I tried this solution and it didn't fix my issue.
What I see is that when I go to Gmail.com and log in, I see the progress bar that shows the account is loading, but then the screen will go blank and the page will stop loading. It works over WiFi, but not over MEdiaNet. I'm using Opera 9.5 build 15613
Thanks!
ive seem alot of people asking devs to mirror stuff other then MF, they say they cant get into it from their phone.
This is
TRY loading the page as a http socket /desktop View
for example download opera mini i know it supports it, or Dolphin HD users, download desktop view plugin to load all pages as you would normally see em on a computer, not gonna mention chrome beta cuz it aint supported by our phone

but it is supported, all you need to do is install this rom that works very fine to be a nightly and you are good to go 'cause it's based on ICS 4.0.4 there is only two mood killers right now camera an mobile data are still waiting to be enabled, but I'm prepare to make it my daily use rom, I'll just wait 'till the data issue is solve, I even dust off my Cyber-shot to take it with me for as long as we have no camera,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650537
that was the rom i was using, mediafire was not working on mobile for at least 5 hours
Or another thing you could do is to type in the address bar: about:debug (type it exactly as I wrote it here) and then go to settings (you'll see a lot of new options) and then scroll al the way down to UAString. There you will find the following options:
Android
Desktop
iPhone
iPad
Froyo-N1
These may vary depending on the ROM you have, but when I download from mediafire I usually use Desktop or iPad mode. After this all you have to do is refresh.
This will save you the hassle of downloading a new browser and it's plug-ins.
Hope I helped you.

Hi, this is my solution, the way I have been surfing 100% like desktop last months.
Open this post with your phone, and copy this user agent string:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/536.6 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/20.0.1092.0 Safari/536.6

Now, you need to open the hidden menu (3845#*970#) and go to Browser Utility.
Do the following steps:
1- Edit UAProfile. Delete all the text and save.
2- Enable/disable X-wap-profile. Touch so its says "ua-profile is 0"
3- Edit UAString. Delete all and paste the string you copied before, and save
4- Enable/Disable Test UAString. Touch to set enabled.
Set all your browser to desktop mode and reboot.
Now all the internet sites will think you're using chrome 20 in windows 7
Opera users:
This wont fix it for you.
You need to type this in the address bar:
about:config
Now go all down to the "User Prefs" settings.
Move down until you see "Custom User-Agent"
Paste here the same string you copied before.
Go to the end of page and touch Save.
Kill opera or reboot, logically you need to first set the opera in desktop mode (in advanced settings).
In this way I have Opera, Dolphin and the stock browser surfing with desktop chrome user agent.
Enjoy!

Yeah, it will slow down in some webs, especially in those with ads, so lots of gifs, banners everywhere...but for that you can use "ADaway" from market and block most of the ads... the best is to configure plugins to load on touch, else if you open few tabs all will load and run any embedded flash showing ads or whatever, really slowing down everything.
I surf pretty fast in most of sites, considering that it is a mobile device
For my mediafire works good again in the stock browser
