Hi fellas
I have a windows mobile site 1800PocketPC.com, its just over a year old. I was wondering if you guys have heard of it ?
We usually post about freewares and the latest hardware news about windows mobile. We dont have a forum for people to hang out coz we think as long as xda-devs and ppcgeeks are there why would anyone need a forum for windows mobile. I was hoping to get some constructive criticism about the site and ways we can improve the site.
You can also subscribe to our RSS ot Twitter
I know your site for some time and it´s very good, I like the format (exept for a narrower line of adds on the right)
Congrats!
I go all the time
I really like the site,
only thing is you could be be a little bit more "selective" or "picky"
At least what I think this could be "Pearls and beauty" of xda-developers.com for the average guy.
- I really like the category style!
- The Wallpaper stuff: Naaaahh I think you will catch some fishes with this but is it really needed? I think it makes the site look a bit cheap.
- RSS and twitter is great: every Headline was a hit so far (well some exeptions but I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder).
- Customisable rss and twitter by categorys and user would be the ultimate I think (but this would almost need the power of a socialnetwork)
- You are already on the top scores of google! (at least when I search for something)
- You can discover the real beauty of google translator when visiting your site Microfi Nitrogen -> Microfi Stickstoff (Germans get the joke)
but besides of the jokes it can be really usefull.
- I can´t test right now but have you checked "freedom from barriers"? The new "touchscreen generation" of phones might be great for handicapped persons. Would also be great to have a rating system for them as well.
So far really great
THX for this site
thanks for the kind words fellas.
@ moesfeld : Customisable rss and twitter by categorys is a great idea, I will look in to getting it done in the near future.
I am in the dark about "freedom from barriers" , do you have any links from where I can read more regarding this ?
Hi sajio,
You have really done a great job with the site, i actually am now quite addicted to your site to catch on the software which i miss on XDA. So keep up the good work and i hope with all the frequent updates and personal attention, you have made it full of valuable resources. What i think is keep your site fresh alway like you do now, and you would not need anything additional.
Regards
Sharif Ansari

Well it pretty much depends on what cms you use. Many have the "accessability for disabled" already inbuild.
I found the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
Also I found the Web Accessibility Toolbar that lets you check if you meet the guidelines.
I know your site a while ago, and I like very much.
Keep it up
I go there @ll the time nice job!
thanks guys
i love it and subscribe to rss for it. thanks for you hard work.
you are welcome

Hey,
Lol at the title, sorry about that - just playin with ya!
Fact is, I need helpers, I need people who are serious on this forum, and have some free time, and a but of patience.
I have a website (as you may know ) and it's hard work, with just a few of us adding content here and there. I have a fully fledged admin panel where you can easily control the website, and add updates, skins, news etc. But I need people to help me out. I am starting to become really busy with other things - and I need some of the pressure off my shoulders. Even if you can just help for the next few weeks.
I'm worried because over the next few weeks I've got work, and I'm going to busy so there will be no updates from me (but hopefully my helpers can add stuff) - and I need people to help me out.
If you are interested, just reply and I will contact you!
Thank you a hell of alot
EDIT:
The competition:
Basically, whoever ads the most quality content and skins onto the site, will be selected by a few fair methods of my own. They will then get 50% OF THE AD REVENUE!!!! This is a fair amount of money. To give you an idea, in the past 4 days I've earnt $26 from ads, so do the math (dont forget it may not stay like this all the time, these are ads, the price per click change all the time).
I hope you are more interested!
I am interested tell me more
I'd certainly be interested!
Basically here is what I'm looking for:
- Good english skills
- Patience and skills
- Good knowledge of windows mobile
- Good sources, and keen to look for programs
- Honest and trustworthy
- Good organization skills
- Someone that has lots of time
- Also different time zones are GREAT! Because content is being added at different times all the time - which is good, I'm in the UK
Let me know anyone
No takers come on it is a good job and fun!
Thanks, knownboyofno (in case you didn't know - he is an admin on my site.. and a good one at that!).
I have come up with a competition, a paid competition for anyone who ads content! See first post!
im interested ......
if you could send me more specific information about it i would be potentially interested
i have been active around forums all around wm related sites, i have a lot of skins so i have experience with that, and i am always looking for new programs.
id like to learn a little more about what specifically i would be doing though.
pm me?
htctoucher
Well skins are good, people love skins!
And basically just add content, stay on top of things and keep the site well fed via my admin panel.
It's all well layed out (if I may say so myself ) and they'res only 1 rule....
finger friendly programs allowed, everything else is not!
Im interested in helping! Im UK based, and I spend a lot of my time on XDA looking around!
If you might be interested in taking me on, send me a pm with a bit more info on the kinda things you would wanted added, could have a chat about it.
I wont take it personally if you don't
- Good english skills: Im english + good old spellcheckers
- Patience and skills: Yup yup
- Good knowledge of windows mobile: I would hope so!
- Good sources, and keen to look for programs: Always on the look out for cool new stuff!
- Honest and trustworthy: Yuppers
- Good organization skills: When I need them
- Someone that has lots of time: On here almost all the time
- Also different time zones: GMT, Uk time

I am looking for a web development project to refine my skills. I'm short on ideas after completing the surprisingly unpopular yet unbelievably useful Trly.gd.
I will work only on anything useful to many people that can at the very least earn 15$ a year for the domain name. No need to monetize it, as long as it doesn't cost me (because I already pay ~200$/year for servers and domains).
Tell me, XDA-Developers, what would you like to see on the web? Let your imagination go wild!
All New Rom with Change log and screenshots..
All working application and games with sceenshot
I like http://trly.gd its just im in the habbit of typing in www.google.com. Marketing is the problem your having, people can be very lazy and sometimes need to be forced or otherwise motivated into using somthing until it becomes a habit.
Maybe you can make a win mo and/or android app for it, and continue to market it as an advanced search device. Let it be skinable, and invite people to upload their skins to share.
then you could even cook it into a rom.
Help people asking for stuff by directing them to trly.gd and the search results it produces. Remember Rome wasnt built in a day, and before Google was king there were yahoo and altavista who were usurped.
If you like i can also advertise it in my sig, prob wont help that much but at least its something.
anyway sorry if this sounds patronising but I do wish you the best of luck
regards
Chris

I know, marketing just isn't there, and I have a lot of stuff to do. It's still a fun project to learn web development.
I'm not in the WinMo scene anymore and I'm about to drop Android too (hardware sucks ATM), but I could make a lil' something for Windows Mobile users around. You know, Trly.gd has a mobile format
Hay guys, I am wondering... I would like to start a new blog, but I do not know what about. I don't want another phone site, I was thinking a car blog or an online deals blog... I am not sure. Any ideas guys?

What are your interests? What do you like?
Ill get people that are interested in the subject to be the editors and like work on the site... so my interest doesn't matter
A car blog would be cool. A deals blog may be a bit too involved .. unless your just posting deals and not necessarily selling or buy things on your blog site. Are you looking to have other people post on it or just strictly byou blogging?
I have 2 blogs myself.
Strangethingsinajax.blogspot.com (basically just wierd or interesting news from around the city i live in but not limited too)
TheSourceSports.blogspot.com (sports rumours and news with a twist)
Both are kinda new but its a cool way to write about stuff.. just goes to show you can write about anything that interests you... u just need an idea. I just recently started writing about the whole rogers mandatory fiasco.. I even created a facebook group for it!
A blog with random secrets and tips. Most people don't know that clicking with the middle button in Firefox opens a new tab or that the F2 key renames files in Windows Explorer or that holding the power button then the middle button on the iPhone can reset the device or force close an application.
Cars, for sure.

I PMed you... and it seems the Car blog is becoming the winner here... and I dont sell anything, so no, just like deals from everywhere on the web, because there is no site that does that.. like a central blog that tells you all the deals and stuff.

Ya, it seems people like that instead
I voted for fashion, but, then your reader base would be limited. So....CARS!
Cars is good (though it depends on what kind of cars of course). Maybe racing orientated (and by that I don't mean F1, but the "proper" stuff like LMS, ALMS or V8 Supercars )
I'd rather read a blog about sex secrets and dirty tales
Many men would want that
check out the new car site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5811749#post5811749 I did it all tonight, so if you guys wanna write for the site... please PM me, because I do not own a working car anymore and I cannot write about something I do not know about.
Thanks Wen
Hey all,
I'm an avid web developer and major time Android fan, I'm looking for a few people that also share my passion for Android - people that have well profound English skills.
I am in the process of developing an Android blog, whilst this may seem unneeded and a tad bit of extra competition to the many other well established blogs, I am sure that my upcoming blog will surpass all other blogs due to the content, context and a secret few features which I disclose at this current time.
All writers, will receive many benefits such as free products, applications as well as money (which is produced based on the amount of interaction with the community and views of your articles).
Sadly, I cannot enclose all the required documents, benefits or features of the upcoming blog but all will be clear once you're part of the team.
PS. I hope this is not against the rules of this forum as I post this in all respect.
Thank you.
UPDATE: Please visit http://www.droid-insider.com/2011/04/13/welcome-home/ for more information.
I must say SMCentral, I am VERY interested. I am a long time fan of Android and just fan technology period (especially in the mobile space). I believe I can provide some great insight into what you are trying to accomplish in your blog, if your willing to give me the opportunity of course.
I like writing poetry. it comes naturally. I've been told I was born before my time. Did and IQ test and apparently I am a Word Smith. I guess that helps.
I've contacted everything whom sent me PMs and posted in this topic.
If you are still interested, please do not hesitate to reply to this topic or send me a PM.
Thank you.
just becuz u talk to urself on paper doesnt mean u have better taste (or anything)

Wow - it's been a long time since I've looked at this topic. Sorry for bringing this topic back from the dead, it's just because that I felt a bit disrespectful creating a new topic for the same topic.
I would like to let people know that we still have spaces open for any writers, this is a paid job. So, please visit http://www.droid-insider.com/2011/04/13/welcome-home/ for more information.
on the tablets on enders game, they have these awesome little one handed keyboards that you pull and stretch and flick and tap. Has anyone figured out how this would work or if it could work? If you haven't yet go see that movie and behold the keyboard awesomeness
MY GOD I KNOW RIGHT?!? xD i did a google search to see if there was anything similar and i post this posting on good all xda. noooow im gunna go learn java to hope to one day make it xD would be cool for a single hand messaging app to exsist. could be like a im or sms app? idk BUY ITD BE SIk
I hear ya, i have found one project but its very weird on the android since the page keeps trying to scroll instead of type
does anyone have a clip of how the keyboard works? i cant find anything yet, i know it will probably hit when the movie actually comes out though.
I created a prototype in JavaScript
Hi guys, I signed up so I can say this =)
I made a prototype over the weekend after seeing the film. I'm not allowed to post links (< 10 posts), but you can go to GitHub and look for enders-keyboard: my username is henrahmagix. To see a demo, go to henrahmagix dot imgur dot com.
@dakunesu The project you found: was it mine? If so, I'm so sorry I didn't stop the page from scrolling around on Android. Hopefully I've fixed that now: I just pushed several updates. Please let me know if it's still a problem and I'll try to fix it =)
After making that, I realised the design is limiting and requires great precision. I've added some issues to improve that, but I don't think it can go very far. It has the cool factor, but I think it's more limiting than useful.
Thanks,
Henry =)
Thanks, Henry. Here's the full link to your github

It's too bad you stopped work on it. I thought it looked pretty cool but more importantly it would have some real functionality for the larger tablets ie all the new windows 8.1 12" tablets that they have coming out soon. With the broadwell chips, they're pretty skinny, easy to hold with one hand which makes this application pretty perfect for typing. Granted it has some rough edges that might be hard to smooth out, especially with punctuation but some of that can be handled by smart prediction tech implemented by other keyboard groups. Well with the larger tablets coming out, a decent typing solutions is something alot of people are going to be looking for.
Keyboards have long been overdue for a change, the whole qwerty thing was set up to keep typewriter keys from jamming, and with tablets you see alot more swiping actions and such making it easier for people to step way from the traditional qwerty keyboards.
Either way, I think the test page you have is a step in the right direction and it looks good and works well enough. I'd love to see something like that as a keyboard for android.
Enders keyboard is not meant for us mortals
imaging ender's game 1337 speak
AFKPU keyboard
I found this video on youtube "AFKPU keyboard", does anyone know of a project that implements such a concept?
Those touch screen interfaces in movies always seemed very unintuitive to me.
