I'm having problems with my gmail on my phone, everytime i try to check my gmail it gives me a screen that says your email will appear shortly and then it force closes. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Give more specifics... rooted? which rom? no ones going to give you a straight answer if we don't know anything about your phone.
sorry about that,it's non rooted and i just got the new 1.5 update(the one that was for security reason supposedly) but it's been happening before I got the first 1.5 update(cupcake) and i don't know what to do.
Try this:
1. Open Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
2. Open GMail, select Force Stop, then Clear Data. Go back to the Manage list.
3. Open GMail Storage, select Force Stop, then Clear Data.
4. Reboot your phone.
worked like a charm, thanks for the help

I had a problem a few weeks back with a message that I couldnt seem to delete. I worked out how to get rid of it in the end, but one of the things I did to try and fix the glitch was go to Settings > Apps > Manage Apps > Messaging, and cleared the cache data. This didnt work for that particular problem, but it seemed to remove all the pictures/thumbnails for each contact in the messaging app (the ones it gets from Facebook). The thumbnails still exist from within the Phonebook/Contacts, but they arent coming up in Messaging. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how I can get those back?
I really liked having them there as it makes it easy to quickly identify a contacts message thread. I am trying out Handcent which does have thumbnails, but I dont like the look and feel of it as much as the stock messaging app. Plus I despise the new message "choose contact" screen. No thumbnail images, and it displays ALL my contacts, even ones that dont have phone numbers.
I really just want to go back to the stock messaging app, but miss my thumbnails. Can anyone help?
Thanks guys.
I am starting to think this problem is unsolvable. I think i've looked under every setting I can find and see no way to bring them back.
Nobody can offer any advice on this?
I had considered possibly removing the stock messaging app then re-installing it from the apk, but I am not exactly sure how to do it...
No idea really. I'm using the AOSP Messaging and it'll show thumbnails for phone stored but not for synced ones.
You might try removing your Accounts & sync accounts and re-adding them and see if that helps.

Yeah I already tried that, no luck. It's a weird problem. I really wish I could just have my stock messaging app with thumbs back!
I have a feeling this may help;
http://androidforums.com/incredible...ndcent-wont-display-pictures.html#post2136845
But I dont have any idea how to use adb or where the thumbnails location is for the Captivate. Is it possible to achieve a similar thing in Root Explorer?
I have a Messaging problem and I am not sure if it just some setting I don't have correct or ROM Problem here goes. I am using Handcent App(I haven't tried the Messaging App that comes with Android) and I am on a Custom GB ROM .I can Send and Receive Text Messages and I can Send Messages with Pictures attached but if someone sends me a Picture via a message I don't get Message or Picture. Where should I start looking to Correct?
Thanks
start by making sure data connection is active,
then try downloading them again.
if not try deleting all the failed picutres.
Then open settings > manage apps > handcent > clear CACHE. REBOOT.
have a friend send a new pic,

The Data Connection is active. How do I download them again or delete the failed pictures because nothing ever came though not even the message that the picture was attached to? I will try clearing Cache though
Thanks for reply
I got it fixed. I had turned off the Build in Android Messaging App thinking I didn't need it since I had Handcent App running but it seems I do to Receive Text with Pictures.
So I've had a friend's old Droid for a few months, and it's worked alright for the most part, but the other day it just decided to completely screw up.
As soon as I boot up these guys force close:
Amazon mp3 (multiple times)
google services framework
messaging
bluetooth share
gmail
google.process.
calendar storage
Other symptoms:
- I can make and receive calls, but neither I nor the other person can hear anything.
- I can't receive texts. Handscent lets me see the list of conversations, but if I try to view one it force closes. The stock messaging app instantly force closes.
- The phone won't recognize the SD card
- Trying to see the call log results in a force close for android.process.acore
- On the stock power management widget, the GPS button and the screen brightness button don't do anything. They highlight the borders like they're being pressed but the icon doesn't change... the rest of the buttons seem to work fine.
- I can change the screen brightness using the Quick Setting app, but as soon as I go to the home screen it goes back to full brightness.
- If I turn on wi-fi, it immediately turns back off again.
I've tried clearing the data and caches for Calendar, Calendar Storage, Contacts, Contacts storage, Gmail, and Google Services Framework multiple times, but it all seems to get reset upon rebooting, even if I turn off the auto-sync before I reboot, which also gets reset to on upon rebooting.
Android version 2.2.3
Baseband version C_01.43.01P
Kernel version
2.6.32.9-g68eeef5
[email protected] #1
Build number FRK76
Not rooted. I wouldn't mind starting over or maybe rooting, if only to get rid of the bloatware and get wireless tethering... I just want to save a bunch of texts I haven't backed up with Handscent. Oh, and that app will let me try to log in, but it says my login details are incorrect even though I can log in on their website.
Anyway, I'm beginning to think I have a trojan and some government is tracking me with undisableable GPS or my phone has been haunted.
Oh, and I might add, I didn't install any new apps or even change any settings before this started happening. Any thoughts?
I also listed which apps work or don't work, if that helps...
Doesn't work (Force closes):
AK notepad
Alarm clock xtreme free
Amazon mp3
browser
calendar
capital one
chargebar
digital clock widget
draw free (doesn't say force close, just closes)
dropbox
Facebook
Gmail
Goggles - took a while authenticating then force closed
Handscent - can see the message list but force closes on looking at one of them
messaging
play store - seems to force close after it accesses my credentials
Talk - doesn't ever sign in
Voice dialer - immediately says "please try again. You can also try restarting your phone."
Youtube - "There was a problem with the network response."
Works:
calculator
camera [[works but no sd card recognized]]
clock
car home
contacts
Easytether
Gallery
Gasbuddy
Gpad
Maps
Market
music [[works - doesn't seem to play anything though]]
news & weather [[works, but can't get any weather info]]
OI file manager
Quick settings
Stopwatch & Timer
Tweetdeck - I can tweet from it, force closes sometimes though. (Didn't before)
Voice recorder
Also, all the data for contact storage, calendar etc. reappears after I reboot the phone, even when my number has been programmed onto a different phone.
Reflash
Did you try reflashing your droid?
No, and I'm confident that would fix it, but that would erase the texts that I want to save.
Look for com.zegoggles.smssync in the Market, it backs up messages and call logs using your Google account. Once you're done, reflash (CM6 works great in Droid and Milestone), then reinstall the app and restore your messages. Good luck!
I'm stock 5.0.1 and far to often when I open Gmail I just get a white screen and have to wait until I get the message to Wait or Close the app.
I've tried wiping data, but it still happens.
Anyone else get this?
go to the main phone settings, apps, gmail.. now clear the data for gmail. or you can try uninstalling it then reinstalling.
Thanks, as I said though, I've done this
I just need any help. I'm trying to figure out why with apps like Snapchat and Facebook. I'm not getting their designated notification sounds. I go into the app settings and it says the notifications are on but then I go to my phone settings and for those particular apps it's set on my phone's default notification which is really annoying. It doesn't even have a app provided toggle that I could even turn on. Any help would be appreciated.
I had an issue with Instagram's notifications. Even though looking through the apps notifications they were all on, I was not getting any at all. It turned out that I did the Google transfer of apps for my old phone to my new phone, and that was why. What I did was clear all cache and data, and then start over by signing in and allowing notifications when the pop-up showed. I didn't get the pop-up the first time I open the app after the transfer, so I'm 99.9% sure that's why. Try clearing cache and data, and then start over by signing in like you just downloaded the app.

Thank you so much! I kind of figured that out as well because I uninstalled it then reinstalled it and everything was fine after that.
