Stupid questiton of the day - does flashing ROM automoatically unlock SIM? Ie my new xperia is on O2 - if I flash one of the excellent ROMs available, will it automatically become unlocked to any network?
no, hard-spl and flashing ROM does not SIM-unlock your phone.

Hi there,
I am looking to SIM-unlock my new X1, is there anyway of doing it? Can I use the Kaiser Sim-Unlocker or any other method? Thanks a lot!
This might be a really stupid question, but have you tried another sim card in it yet?
Mine came from Vodafone UK, and is unlocked out of the box

You cannot use the other unlockers for this model.
Contact me by PM , I can give you the unlock code.
*ALL* UK vodafone contract phones are now sim unlocked.
Same with Telnor/Vodafone Sweden. They do not lock the phones.
You might see the locked phones soon.
Now T-Mobile Netherlands has locked phones and they are out in the market.
I can confirm that htccode can remove the simlock from a X1, my X1 was locked with a T-Mobile Netherlands Simlock, but now it's simlock free
Was done in about 5 minutes...
just got one from mobilkom austria (vodafone partner) a week ago - it came unlocked
mine came unlocked out of box. O2 uk (mobiles.co.uk)
Joel
I got my X1 last thursday, locked from Vodafone.
Simple visit to htccode and within a few minutes it was unlocked.
Excellent service.

A simple google search gave me the next result:

Why don't you just flash the phone with the latest generic firmware as described in the ROM-forum? Branding and SIM-lock should be gone after that.

Mine has gone away. Austria Mobilkom branded phone, now with AT_Generic Firmware and no SIM-Lock anymore -I tried SIM-cards from "3" and "T-Mobile" and they are working.
SIM lock has to be a software-issue, I don't think that they will mess with the hardware for each provider?
At least, it's a try. What works for me could work for others too.
is this the same as CID unlock? or only simcard lock?
unlocked x1
SFR (french vodafone partner) provide unlocked x1 too !!
I DONT SEE WHAT I NEED...IS THERE ANY STANDALONE THAT CAN UNLOCK THIS FONE..X1 YES OR NO?WHER?regards

Try to change your O2 ROM with the European ROM using Goldcard method

That would DeBrand the Device (removing the O2 Splash screen etc) however it WILL NOT unlock the device to allow another network's sim card to work in the device.
The ONLY way at the moment to unlock your device is to either obtain the code from O2 which you have tried or pay for one through a unlock site such as the one he's already been shown (http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/htc-hd7-unlock)
^^ ok thanks for all of you guys
i'll try that website
i wish that it work..
best regards for you ...
Dear Friends
I am using unlocked Tmobile HD2 in India
Now if I flash it with custom ROMs will it again lock it to the Tmobile network
Please help me friends if some precautions to be take for flashing
Thanks
No, dont worry, once unlocked it cannot be re locked.
Do NOT try to flash any stock roms except tmous stock rom. Example never flash the stock India rom,,, all stock roms will destroy your phone. Only use roms that say " tmous compatible," or "leo1024" or similar.

Thanks samsamuel...but mine is Tmobile UK with 512 mb flash size
If I flash the official Tmobile UK ROM..will it relock itself
Thanks
Ohhhhh right, in future don't say "t mobile hd2", its unnecessary, confusing and you will get wrong advice.
also, this "t mobile" section isn't for you, its for t mobile USA, which is kind of a different phone.
Answer no, it will never be re locked.

hd2 rom update
Hi, i use an US t-mobile HD2 in Hungary. Its unlocked.
ROM version: 2.13.531.1. I like to update the rom to 3.14
I found on t-mobile's site some instructions, and the new rom.
My question is: when i update ROM with original t-mobile ROM(3.14), can it be re locked?? Thanks (sorry for my bad english)
No it will not be relocked by flashing a new ROM (stated many times in many threads including this one)
If flashing you would be best looking at Energy 29017 custom ROMs unless you have a very good reason to want flash original ROM.
Custom ROM is superb & functions far better than any latest operator build.
I had T-Mobile 3.14 & flashing to Energy 23699 build ROM is like jumping forwards 2 years in software development (probably closer to a decade at MS development speed)
i have been using maglr 1.13 i think im locked out now i open up a daf an it reads Readme.txt for this release is missing.can someone steer me in the ridgt direction
Steer yourself at Google and type "magldr rearmed.txt missing", loads of results.
Ok, so my question is what if I unlock my phone? Is it just the same as De-branding my Galaxy S?
I debranded my Galaxy S because it was branded by Tmobile. I wanted to get the latest android versions, so I had to do that. (Tmobile NL always comes with the phone updates after half a year if not a year)
So now my question is, is unlocking the bootloader the same as de-branding? When the 4.2 update comes I would love to have it and not wait 3 years.
Thank you for reading, hope someone can give me advice or tips!
Unlocking the bootloader does not de-brand your phone, nor does making it simlock free.
I have a simlock free Xperia Z with a unlocked boot loader and also use T-mobile, but the T-mobile bootsplash is still there.
Iam pretty sure there must be ways to remove the splash when unlocked, but just unlocking itself will not de-brand it.
Lets hope someone can tell us how to get rid of this.
Kind regards, Stefan.

Ah oke, that clears some up. Now i just have to find a way to de-brand it. I hate the Tmobile brand. Just because they are just so late with their updates.... I buy a new phone and want to keep up-to-date.... Not get out-dated
To get rid of the T-Mobile stuff you just need to flash an unbranded firmware to your phone. Check the forums for how to do all that.

That makes sense. Do you think it will slow down my phone or something like that? Or lower the battery life?
Iam kinda sure it will not slow down the phone.
However I will wait for 4.2 to release and will then flash a unbranded firmware.
If not to many bugs are reported in 4.2 that is, else I will stay on 4.1 a little longer and perhaps look for a way to de-brand it then.
Kind regards, Stefan.

Good point, else we can install and install every week all our apps. :| I already found a solution for me so I dont need to break any Boot loaders: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190936 Hope it works and that I can use a Stoch 4.2 firmware from sony then!
