Hi folks, We all know about new feature "Windows Experience or Performance Index" in Windows Vista. It's a new feature which automatically calculates your system performance index based on the hardware you have. It can be between 0.1 to 9.9
Windows Performance Index is shown in System Properties which can be accessed by right-clicking on My Computer icon on Desktop and select Properties or from Control Panel.
With Vista's Windows Experience Index it can be handy to manually change the score so you can get extra features that apply to PC's with a higher score.
Using this trick, you can increase that Index upto 9.9
NOTE: It will, of course not affect/improve the actual performance of your system. Take a prior backup of that file before editing it.
How to:
1. Type following in Startmenu Searchbox / Run / Explorer Addressbar:
%windir%\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore
And Press <Enter>.
2. You’ll one or more .xml files in the folder. Sort them by Date Created or look at their name. The file name will be in following format:
2007-11-08 22.23.17.858 Assessment (Initial).WinSAT.xml
Where "2007-11-08 22.23.17.858" might differ from machine to machine and Windows Installation date/time.
3. Open the latest file in "Wordpad" and goto line having <WinSPR>. It’ll be approx. 12th line and will look like following:
<WinSPR>
<SystemScore>1</SystemScore>
<MemoryScore>4</MemoryScore>
<CpuScore>3.4</CpuScore>
<CPUSubAggScore>2.9</CPUSubAggScore>
<VideoEncodeScore>3.9</VideoEncodeScore>
<GraphicsScore>1</GraphicsScore>
<GamingScore>1</GamingScore>
<DiskScore>4.2</DiskScore>
4. Now you can edit the numbers between > & < and can increase them upto 9.9 as following:
<WinSPR>
<SystemScore>9.9</SystemScore>
<MemoryScore>9.9</MemoryScore>
<CpuScore>9.9</CpuScore>
<CPUSubAggScore>9.9</CPUSubAggScore>
<VideoEncodeScore>9.9</VideoEncodeScore>
<GraphicsScore>9.9</GraphicsScore>
<GamingScore>9.9</GamingScore>
<DiskScore>9.9</DiskScore>
5. Thats it. Save the file and check the Index again in System Properties. It'll 9.9 now.
Microsoft will allow a higher score than 5.9 in the future when the relative performance of future computers far exceed a score of 5.9
i have a question for u Rohit.
my pc has intel 915gm which has 192 mb graphic memory
1gb ram
1.7 GHz intel centrino
as intel has stopped shipping this chipset, there are no WDDM drivers available for it.
so no aeroglass for it!
as the beta versions of vista used to have a perfectly working aeroglass., is there any way i can force glass effect by any tweak?
(and what more, Microsoft no more gives the vista beta for download)
thanks

Hey mate, try this:
1. Click on the start button and key in regedit and hit Enter.
2. Navigate through, HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, Microsoft, Windows and DWM.
3. Set Composition to 1 and CompositionPolicy to 2.
4. Restart the DWM by restarting the Desktop Windows Manager Session Manager service. This can be done in services.msc or by typing net stop uxsms and net start uxsms at command prompt.
Once the service restarts you will have glass !!!
by beta, you mean Longhorn ? I don't think Microsoft is nice enough to offer us free beta version, when their Vista(paid version) is already on a boom in market

not really because:-
1. i no longer have vista beta.
2. even if i had, i'm too dumb to do that.
So, in the nutshell, you need those WDDM drivers, right ?
yes exactly....but they r not available from intel.

Hidgamep.dll file (included)
4 in1 cable (and usb gamepad ) any with 1 joypad will work.
1. you will need to unzip the hidgamep.dll file into your windows directory on your phone.
2. open your registry editor, and find the directory [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\HID\LoadClients\Default\Default
3. add the value "1_5". ( dont put the "")

5. now add the key "hidgamep.dll" ( dont put the "") (this step makes windows use the driver)
6. save your work remove the usb device and reboot your phone.
7. now if you did this right, when you plug in your usb game pad it should give you a message. now all you have to do is set the buttons on your emulator and your off to gaming like a pro!!!!

Very interesting! Great work!
Does a normal USB-keyboard work with this?
(And is there a way to use localized keyboards with the Athena?)
Think I shall give this another try
I found the .dll on another forum a while ago but could not get it to work but might of been a very very ancient copy but I think I shall give this a try again, a couple of quick questions do you know how many buttons the .dll supports? And also does it map the pad to the standard joystick layout for games that do not allow you to reconfigure the keys?
If all goes well might consider getting one of these http://www.geniusnet.com/geniusOnli...50&_pageLabel=productPage&test=portlet-action

My guess is "no" since it requires a USB host which only Advantage has...

the driver for a mass storage device is already installed. i looked into it. the thing is that the battery on a phone is about 3.7v. a regular usb port has alot more than that. dont expect to power a hard drive with such low current. the drivers are installed so if you use thumb drives or multi usb port drives it will work.

the reason it didnt work is because the buttons need to be maped correctly. all my driver does is tell the pda what we want it to do when you press buttons. the axis is the directional keys on the board.
if you did want to reconfigure the map. its just plug n play with the driver, just remove the current mapping and add the keys you want to the driver. also u will know when u did it right because you will get a pop up box

It works
Hi Cuba337,
Got it sussed and now it works with a couple of joypads might get the one I linked above now. For anyone else trying this and getting stuck I found you need to tweak the intructions given.
Step 3, Add a new KEY named "1_5" (ignore the " ")
Step 4, Add a new KEY named "gamepad"
Step 5, Add a new STRING value called "DLL"
Step 5a, edit the value and enter "hidgamep.dll"
And that does the trick for me did not bother reseting the phone just plugged a pad in and it worked. It works with both my genuine HTC 4-in-1 cable and my no name 7500 dock with 2 usb ports on the side. It does feel a touch unresponsive but the only digital gamepad I have laying around is rather shoddy and my other spare pad has analogue pads which it's not keen on either so will get new pad and see what happens, will also see if the new PK4.0 rom helps when that comes out.
Thanks Cuba337

Can you post links to the set of utilities that you are using? A consolidated list of game emulators and versions that support the config that you are using and talking about?
I have all of the older emulators, but I have had trouble getting many of them to work in REALVGA mode. Do you have yours working in VGA mode? Since you have a working solution it would be really really cool to get all of the links from you for the solution that you have put together. I would personnally be grateful for the time saved from testing unknown configurations...

Auto Config File For The Dll
Instead of asking for it I am deciding to post it. LOL
Create a .REG file and place this into it's content.
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\HID\LoadClients\Default\Default\1_5\gamepad
"DLL"="hidgamep.dll"
Place the file on your device and run it. I don't know if the run method works as it should on
a windows pc but it should in theory. After a successful merge of the file you may delete it.
Personally I would place it in the DLL's zip file so it does not get lost for future installations.
If there is a CE Hacker out there looking for an example to follow you might want to
consider the following information taken from windowsfordevices.com
DB files define the default RAM-based property database for the object store. The
syntax is a bit cryptic, but it is documented. For Platform Builder-generated systems,
it is rare to need to use the database at all, except to set up the automatic
connection for ActiveSync, as follows:
Code:
; This is the database initialization file.
; format is as follows -
; Database : db name : type in hex : num sort order : hex propid : hex flags ....
; CEDB_SORT_DESCENDING 0x00000001
; CEDB_SORT_CASEINSENSITIVE 0x00000002
; CEDB_SORT_UNKNOWNFIRST 0x00000004
; CEDB_SORT_GENERICORDER 0x00000008
; A database specifier can be followed by any number of record specifiers
; Record :
; A record specifier can be followed by any number of field specifiers
; Field : hex propid : value [ either string or hex dword ]
; End (ends a matching database or a record context)
Database: "DB_notify_events" : 0 : 1 : 0001001F : 0
; 0001001F - PROPIDR_NAME
; 0002001F - PROPIDR_CMDLINE
; 00030013 - PROPIDR_EVENT
Record :
Field : 0001001F : "repllog.exe"
Field : 0002001F : "AppRunAtRs232Detect"
Field : 00030013 : 9
End
End Database
This DB file will set up the notification database to run REPLLOG whenever an RS232
event is triggered. This will start the connection process on the default "hot plug"
port for ActiveSync.
Maybe you can map an 8-way d-pad with buttons to the keyboard with this method and speed up the response time without using C/C#/C++? I Dunno. I Never heard of
using a DB file as a driver until I read up on the REG files.
For those who don't know but are interested RS232 is Infrared. I'm sure the codes
above could be changed to a USB or even Bluetooth COM Port.

I am trying to run some Java programs using JBed. But the font size of the programs is way too small on Diamond's VGA screen. Is it possible to change it to some larger font size?

Anyone knows how to do this?
small fonts is a common problem with jbed apps on the diamond.
Sadly I haven't seen a solution for that, hopefully someone knows a solution.
Regards,
EquinoXe
I m amateur Java programer , I wrote some Java application (In fact took open source and changed things)
I changed all the fonts in the code to Font.SIZE_LARGE , but still they are too small , specially when graphics display (it's ok when only clear text)
There are some complicate way to bypass the problem for example drawing text ...
meanwhile seems like Java MIDP is not ready for VGA...
Hi
Suggestions:
1)
Use this JBED version and see if it helps. It could use some more hacking to improve all font sizes supported by it - but its better than nothing. BTW its one of the older JBEDs hacked to support VGA...
2)
Use JBLEND.
Improve it by editing:
HKCU\Software\Jblend\VM_Font_Size0
HKCU\Software\Jblend\VM_Font_Size1
HKCU\Software\Jblend\VM_Font_Size2
to bigger numbers like 28 - 30 and 32 - you then get BIG fonts.
And for fullscreen;
Edit: Full_Screen_Mode from 0 to 1. (Only works as long as you stay in the program - but not when returning from for example a phone call)

Thanks a lot for your information! I installed the JBlend that comes with your attachment, but the problem is, the same application that can be successfully installed in JBed failed to be installed in JBlend. JBlend reports "errorno=910, application authentication failure". How to resolve this problem?
Thanks Martinhdk,
To bad it means I have to switch to jblend instead of using the embedded Jbed.
But it is a good solution.
Thanks for the tips!
Yup - go for JBLEND for now. I hope we get a good JBED for VGA one day but the JBLEND is also quite cool because its easy to tweak.
Just a shame that it only supports some degree of full screen.
The real solution for all the problems would be a Java VM with pixel duplication.
But unfortunately such a VM does not exist.
TDO
Anyone had any luck running games with the attached version of JBlend?
The following registry settings control the font sizes for apps running in JBed.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Apps\Esmertec Java\Device Info\Java Font]
"Size Large"="26"
"Size Medium"="20"
"Size Small"="16"
You may need to create the Device Info & Java Font keys since they are not created by default. I know they change the font with JBed 20080912_5_1, not sure about older versions.
Since I was at it, I tested these registry settings against Jbed 20080418_2_1 and they do not make a difference. They may only effect 20080912_5_1, which makes sense because the default fonts in 20080912_5_1 are larger than any previous build I have seen. See attached screen shots to compare Extra Large in 20080418 vs Extra Large in 20080912.
Note: these are on a 320x240 screen, but they give you an idea of the difference.
Just to round out my triple play, when using Jbed 20080912_5_1, you need to enter the following font values to restore the familiar font sizes used in previous releases (ideal for QVGA), otherwise you get the giant fonts (ideal for VGA) as posted above....
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Apps\Esmertec Java\Device Info\Java Font]
"Size Large"="16"
"Size Medium"="14"
"Size Small"="11"
Opera Mini note:
If you are attempting to customize the font based on how Opera Mini looks, take note of the following....
Under Menu\Tools\Settings\Font size:
Extra large = "Size Large"
Large = "Size Medium"
Medium = "Size Small"
Small = can not be change using the above registry settings.
so is this Jbed 20080912_5_1 version downloadable from somewhere, I've searched google but interesting enough it finds only a couple of pages, mostly russian forums...?

This is the version of JBed included in the most recent AT&T Fuze ROM (HTC Raphael). I've attached it here for your convenience.
I removed the AT&T crap. The default font sizes are ideal for VGA screens (I had to change them for my lowly QVGA ELFin). This is the OEM Package for cooking. The only new files are jbed.exe & ieplugin.dll, so feel free to just copy them over to your device if you don't cook.
I've just merged folders, placed it in my Internal Storage and installed Gmail and Opera mini, it works perfectly! Thank you trueg!
No worries. How do the fonts look on your VGA screen?
just perfect, I wouldn't touch anything, even slightly lowered my font size settings in mini opera to "large", font size in Gmail is slightly smaller but better than anything I saw by now on Diamond
This is really good news as JBLEND is not as good as JBED in my opinion.
Let the play begin and thank you guys.

Most programs (Gmail included) use the "Size Small"="16" value. If you up the value it would increase the font size accordingly.
Hi,
A small prog for you. You know that under Windows 7, the 1024x600 resolution crash the OS with Aero.
Here is the solution to avoid the crash.
How to install:
Copy the exe to the c:\program files\htc folder
Run the reg file and RESTART the computer.
After that, you can use the resolution switch button to switch from 800x480 to 1024x600. You will have a prompt for UAC, just click yes.
What it does:
It set your aero service to manual (if you reset, you can go back to windows in non aero mode)
It set the run as administrator flag to the aero.exe program
It changes the button action to aero.exe
When running: if you are on 800x480 without aero, it runs aero (you should press it once after reboot)
If you are on 800x480 with aero, it stops aero and switch to 1024
If you are on 1024, it switch to 800 and starts aero.
Please report if it works for you
very unreliable (for me)
I understand that my system might have some errors that may prevent this from working properly on my computer, but this is how it works for me.
I start up in 800 without Aero.
on first push it gives me Aero in 800
2nd push 1024 with Aero off. So far so good.
3rd push 800 NO Aero
As mand times as I push it, it neve returns to Aero. When I triedto personalize none of the other themes would do Aero either and even with Aero themes I could only choose classic windows colors.
Somehow it doesn't turn windows Aero back on.

you should try this :
go to the settings and change to 16 bits instead of 32bits for 800x600 but cancel when you got the pop up windows with the 15 seconds ... like that, you should get aero back.
I don't really know why but in 800x600 aero doesn't show up automatically.

Reinstalled, no luck. Now I'm back with the standard change resolution.
Thaihugo, Is there anyway you can make additional resolution options?
For example, I like my W7 in 1152x864 by default, and will switch to 1024x600 if I cant see something.
So is it possible to cycle through 4 resolutions?
1152x864
1024x768
1024x600
800x600
(If the utility can only support 2 resolutions, can you make one for 2 specific resolutions?)
Currently I just use the resolution option under the right click menu, but your tool would be much more useful. And on that subject, couldn't the Resolution switcher button launch a program our batch routine or something?
The button can lauch whaever you want. I'm switching using standard htc tools, but it could be any other way. Except it needs to be programmed. And it needs time... and you seems to be alone in this case.
If you provide me with a program which switch resolution using a command line, I'll incorporate it in my routine. Just look for a freeware that can switch with a command like this:
reschange 800 480
for example. I'm sure there are some hanging around google.

I'm starting to look for more and more tweaks and hacks as I go

Im not surprised to see the intel graphics drivers at fault. The HiRes>LowRes aero turn off isn't HTC's problem its the Intel drivers only their control panel can switch back without turning aero off everything else including Windows and the API to change resolution experiences the problem above.
Thanks for providing the alternate drivers ill take a look aswell.
