All my mp4s/mpeg4s played fine on the normal android 1.5, after installing hero some of them won't play, some plays but the screen is green and only can hear audio.
We can't guarantee that all of Hero's features work great...for one, Hero isn't even available publicly and two, it's not supposed to go on the G1 .
Is this a problem that just happens with the stock firmware (like built-in) video player? Have you tried it with a 3rd party video player (such as Video Player by Jeff Hamilton)?

Is this possible? In WinMo we got choppy video, and this could be fixed using tcpmp, but in android I can't even play my video files (i can only hear them). Is there a way to fix this?
I had a video that I recorded on WinMo that I could watch on android, but that was the only video I could watch. Is there a way to convert videos so that I can watch them?
best as i have been able to see NO
This has worked for me to convert videos:
http://www.winxdvd.com/cell-phone-converter/
The converted videos have worked flawlessly for me using Myn's Warm Donut, Dzo's Odexed Donut, and Dzo's Fresh Froyo. Not choppy at all.

Ive used that site to convert n download mp4's from youtube, they work natively in android with awesome framerate.
So yesterday I was playing around and tried to get some porn clips to play on the phone. I downloaded a video (using a greasemonkey script) and then I transfer the .flv to one of the cards.
It says something like: "filetype not admited" ("tipo de archivo no admitido")
Does it have to do with the flash version? I have stock jf3 root and lagfix app.
Youtube is ok, spankwire or xvideos, are not. You can see it's a REALLY SERIOUS problem
However, sgs media player is supposed to get along with .flv right?
Is there a way for this videos (or others .flv) to play on the phone apart from converting?
i had something similar happen to me
but of course mine was an almost 4GB file with surround sound all channels and HD but it was on 720 mkv, but it gave me the same message
now i loaded another similar mkv file but it was only stereo and that worked fine
seems like the phone can't support HD audio
I see. So it probably has to do with the audio then.
I can resemble this situation
Like all original, un-modded Droid owners, I was looking forward to Froyo and Flash player 10.1. Well, it finally got here. Sites now work, (e.g. Kongregate) and others. Works with Youtube and such. Does not work with .flv files, haven't tried .swf files yet, nothing seems to play from the device, AFAIK.
I would speculate that what we see when things do "play" on the device is the streaming variety of the media.

One of these days I will get around to rooting my Droid and my Eris. Someday....
I have similar problem. I´ve downloaded Megavideo application and when I try to play the video from app with stock player (and I beleived that Galaxy S stock player must handle .flv without problems) so it starts to play, but only with black screen and no sound. In Rockplayer or others it works just fine. Any suggestions how to help it? Thanks a lot
I think the best option is to just use RockPlayer for this.
I've tried using video converters but it's not worth it because audio/video quality can suffer or even get messed up badly. RockPlayer is just more convenient and simple.
I'm hoping that maybe a Chef can help me out with this one, as they might have ran into this same issue.
I have made my own ROM for my Imagio based on the oringinal 21874 Build.
My problem is that I have video play back issues with Album, Windows Player, and You Tube (Which I know album & You Tube uses Full Screen Player). When ever I play mp4s etc.. it would cause my device to freeze/lock up).
I have tried 3 or 4 different versions of Album, Full Screen Player, You Tube, Media Tool Kit..and aswell as other HTC Software and components. Does anyone know which software component versions work best with each other?
But since I also have issues using WMP, I have to say It just can't be HTC software.
The closest I have got it to work, it would play the video but the video was off sync with the audio.
I also have made a ROM for someones HTC Pure and ran into the same issue, so it can't be just the Imagio.
So I am at a loss of what could resolve this problem.
I am using the latest ADS_Magpie Gingerbread ROM with my 32B G1. Installed the latest YouTube app from the market and I can only get sound from the clips. The video is blank/black. I tried YouTube back when my G1 was still using the official 1.6 ROM and had the same problem.
Is this a known problem for G1?
Turn off the HQ option. YouTube has upped the resolution on the HQ streams and they no longer play in the YouTube app on G1. Older videos should stick work however.
Thanks. I will try to see if that's the case.
Facebook video plays OK. BTW.
How can I prevent the camera application from interrupting music playback? I can't record videos while continuing to stream audio over AUX or BT.
Using camera while streaming music will work for taking photos, BUT to record videos, they assume you want to record sound with your video, so that's why the streaming stops. You can always play music from an external source when making your music videos.

I know I can play from an external source but that would defeat the point of keeping everything on my phone- Lets say I'm having a small party and I'm streaming music from my phone over BT and then decided I want record a video, obviously I'm not going to want the music turning off for the whole party because I decided to record a video. Or another example, my little nieces & nephews were over this past weekend and were dancing to music I was playing from my phone over BT and since I have a Note 4 & always is the best camera in the room for recording videos, I'm asked to record with my phone. If they are dancing to music playing over my phone and then I record a video of them & its turns off the music, which I also want in the video, then it makes the video pointless.
I would find it extremely strange if there isn't a 3rd party app to allow this, a setting to adjust, a work-around or a Wanam xposed option to allow this.
I can't be the ONLY one with this issue lol

i guess no one else has tried to record a video while using their phone as a music player. we must be the crazy ones -_- ...seeing as that no one else was going to be of any help, had to resolve this one myself. i remember i used poweramp exclusively back in the day on my cyanogenmod g2 because compared to the stock music player it had a better interface, a ton more feautures & settings, better eq, better file mgmt, better interface & music actually played better through this app (with eq mods). I stopped using it when i got the first galaxy s as it had a bug like many things had a bug on that phone.
i just download the latest Version of Poweramp & I am blown away- it has come a long way and in my few minutes using it, I already love it again and will be using it as my primary music player. And it fixed my problem, I'm able to taking pictures & videos now without interrupting music playback. (setting for it)
any updates on this?
I to have the same issue where my kids are dancing to music I'm streaming and would love to video them doing they're crazy moves to the music.
Best bet is have the dev who rom you are using mod the camera ? apk and you are good. Every rom is different. Also someone did this already you just gotta look.
