We have been running WMSkins Gallery, with an aim to bring all the skins & themes for Windows mobiles to one central location. Now we are creating a platform based on WMSkins Gallery which will be a marketplace for all the skins & themes for Windows Mobiles & Android.
Designers over here go a great job & provide our devices a new look but they are not given full credit. We would like that designers get there share of advantage for their hard work. So, we will provide all the designers a medium where they can share their work either for free or paid.
We would like to know your thoughts about it?
We are also looking for name recommendations for the new gallery, So Please suggest.
UPDATE: Here's a preview, its just a design mockup. We are working on functionality.
Regards,
WMSkins Team.
Yes, That would be a great idea!
it is good to have something, however, lately I am making themes and wallpapers for S2U2 which I post here. I see them back on your site, no problem at all, but I think it is not more than polite to add the original author's name on it. I see now several themes, clocks and wallpapers which I photoshopped together ;-) and at some of them the poster (a guy from India) did not mentioned the author. And when you are really going to SELL my themes I want my share, all original PSD files are in my computer, I really do not want you to sell something and make profit using my work without notifying.
You took the themes and skins from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354111&page=714
I made this because I think it is fun and to do something back for this great community, I did not expect to see them on other sites without referring to the author (the one with the green lamborghini on wmskins for example)
Cheers,
Arnold

Hi Arnold,
We at our site respect the original authors & mention their name on the upload which you'll find under each image when you open it up, scroll down to the page for more information & you'll find authors name being mentioned there. What we mention below thumbnails are the uploaders name.
And on our new project we let original authors upload their work, set the price & get paid. We'll not be selling others work.
Hope you like the project,
WMSkins Team.
I would be great to have more of the themes in a centralized place, however charging for themes could be very difficult considering how many talented developers are just giving them away. Those who do make the themes deserve to get their do credit. I am in support of a "theme gallery", but not paying for something we are already getting for free or by donating.

Hi Irishpride,
Our current Gallery is short of many features. We are developing a whole new interface to it & added funtionality. We'll let designers choose whether they want to provide their work for free or for a charge. Therefore, there'll be both free & paid themes in the gallery. If a designer is paid for his work, he'll be more interested in providing more skins & themes, therefore user will get more & more awesome look on the device. Its good for both designers & users.

Well, good to hear that you respect that, I assume you and another one are having this site. So, take a look at this: http://www.wmskins.com/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=19&pos=1
My name is not there. Maybe it is an idea to let the people who post our work to force them to admit something in the field where to put the original authors name. That way, you don't have to check it, and you don't get any mail regarding to his from disappointed authors. (just an idea)
Further on I think to get a lot on one place is good, and as long as the free downloads are better than the ones you have to pay for, your visitors are happy too ;-)

We are sorry that your name is not mentioned there, We may not have got it otherwise we would have added it there. Anyways we are working on the new interface which will improve it.
To be honest, I don't like the site as it is now.
You don't even provide a link to the original thread, which is really the least that is expected. But even then I don't think it's good to mirror the files without asking for permission, especially as you force users to register before they can download anything .

We do have input for Source URL when you upload the file. But we have not enabled it to show to the user as we are planning to develop new interface. You'll get this & much more features in the new version.

Dear Arnold,
We welcome you to upload your work to gallery, we'll be more than happy if you upload your work yourself. And when there's new version we'll be honoured to have you there too.
But it's not about anything you're planning in the future - it's about now. I think it's reasonable that I expect you to link to the sources and take the files down or make them available for all users.

We are also looking for Name Recommendations for the new gallery. Please Suggest.

My work is already uploaded to your site, but if you are going to use it for the Marketplace we will have to discuss it.
I don't think many people will pay for a skin.

Currently there is no site like this for Windows Mobile & Android. Everyone knows that WM doen't come with a good looking interface, so we think people may be willing to shell a little extra to get a new look for the device. Moreover if the designers get benefit for their work they will providing more great looking themes.
Sure I would be more productive if I would get paid.
I am 16 years old so I have not much money; getting paid for it would be great.
Just tell me when you've finished it!
Well, as long as you don't upload the work of others and then make people pay for it, I'm fine. Also, I don't see you're actively "improving the shortcomings in the current version"...
Okay, so thanks to some members for helping me find this homescreen replacement. However, I have searched for hours looking for some kind of mod for this thing, and I haven't found a one. Is it not possible to manually tweak settings like color, for instance? I can't believe this UI isn't as hyped as I find it to be.
So, can we get some devs on this to give us some tweaks and start a thread?
I know what you mean. I just d.l.'d it and really like the design/idea of it all. Right now it is very limited to what you can tweak. If you go to thier website and check out the forum over there, alot of people are giving thier ideas of what they would like to see done to this app. Hopefully the dev's are listening....

Yeah, but I think the requests are falling on deaf ears. Multiple people are saying over in their forums are saying they are simply doing compatibility updates now. I thought some Devs here at XDA could take matters into their own hands. But I just don't think there are enough people interested in it, you know? At the time of this post, 395 views of this thread and only one reply. Supply and demand, we need more people to speak up!
Very true. I'm gonna hang on to the free version for a while and see what happens. Time will tell.
I stick using this for a long time. a bit sad I couldn't "beautify" my home like others do. but in my opinion the standards color scheme are the best there is. and don't you think modding it (like adding a shortcut to one page of widget screen or a dash of power control which I really want as an upgrade) is the same as altering the whole program? is that against licencing problem? I'm quite a noob in this area...

I have no idea. It seem's that it would be, but then again, people are porting SENSE over to non-HTC devices as well, so who knows? I don't know if the free version is open source or not.
I know the giveaway isn't much but I hope over time it will grow. I am currently contacting manufactures to see if I can get any love.
I just started a new website called androidusers.info. I am hoping to have it have stuff that users want to see. Check it out and leave comments on what you would like there. Also I am having a giveaway for a superuser sticker. I know it's not much but for now everything is coming out of pocket. If you would like to help out let me know. I am looking for app developers who wouldnt mind giving away something. Also a tweet about it would be nice. As for the donation link well it says it all there. Not looking for huge donations just maybe a couple cents which over time and people will add up to some nice stuff to give away.
Mods feel free to remove if this isn't up to site code.
2 things i notices - 1 its slow to load (may just be my internet connection) and 2 it would be better if most of the post was viewable from the mainpage (like engadget)
Thank you for the comments. I am still working out the kinks and looking at other themes for it.
also the fonts , esp the titles are huuuuuuuge
Thanks. Will work on that.

Don't take this the wrong way, but creating a website for the Thunderbolt right now is like showing up late to a party with a 12 pack of Bud Light. Everyone will be happy you came, but you didn't bring anything that wasn't already there. Now, if you show up with a bottle of Single Barrel Jack Daniel's, you will be the shiznit at the party. So, if you can, please try to bring something different to your website. With that said, I'll be sure to keep checking on your site, it's always nice to have more people at the party.

To be honest, I love this idea. It's kind of hard to find updated roms and mods for any phone, not to mention the Thunderbolt. BeardedMan... Why is making a website like this, which will (hopefully) be a good hub for Thunderbolt mods and roms, getting "late to the party?" Is there another website out there like this, besides the android forms or Rom Manager? If there is, I'd like to know.
frankzua77, I would like to say thank you. If this website becomes what I think it will, it will make modding the Thunderbolt so much easier. If you need any help, just let me know.
I think the problem beardedman is referencing is the fact that there are a lot of android websites/forums already (even thunderbolt specific) and that there are a lot of much newer phones getting the attention. I have yet to not find anything I'm looking for without a 10 second search on Google. And the Thunderbolt is real close to being yesterday's superphone, if it's not already.
Plus, the problem with any of these sites is someone has to maintain it...which means sifting through posts, updating daily, etc. Unless it's a wiki that anyone can update, it's the same reason that the stickies all get outdated. Heck, it's the same reason I've started threads on many forums for many topics trying to compile information and eventually given up.
Now that I've rained on the parade and come off as a prick, I do applaud the effort...even if it doesn't stay updated or become the hub you imagine, at least you have an idea and a passion and are trying to do something about it. Don't lose that. And who knows...maybe it's just what the community needs

I have a "Thunderbolt" folder in my Bookmarks (just like I used to with my Incredible) that I have the five links in. I can open all the links and catch up with all the newest Thunderbolt news, for the most part. And the Thunderbolt is old news actually, just being honest.
TUDrewser understood what I meant, I wasn't being rude. ThunderNet, trying checking the above sites, I bet you'll find answers to whatever questions you have.

Users can submit a MOD, Downlad mods or whatever right from the web.
Still a WIP, but just needs attention.
Not knocking this idea at all, but should really consider opening it up to a wiki format and not center only on the thunderbolt.
!
I really appreciate everyone that makes their point, I am currently working on the page. One of my goals is to have videos that can show you a ROM even before you consider downloading it. I know we are focusing on the tbolt, who knows maybe later on this expands to having other phones and stuff...

IconDatabase.net is a community-driven collection of free icons. You can search by name, set, artist, style, or app, making it easy to find exactly what you're looking for. Any registered user can add icons and help maintain the site, so it should stay fresh and up to date as the community grows.
Current Features
Artist database
Icon set database
Icon database
App database
See similar icons for the same app
Filter icons by name, app, artist, set, color , or license
Registered users can add content
Donation system to help give back to artists
Under heavy construction
I'm just getting started on this project (only a week in so far), but the goal is to grow it into the best and easiest place to find icons. Let me know if anything's broken, doesn't make sense, is missing, or anything else for that matter. I want to get as much feedback as soon as possible so I can make sure the site's useful for both artists and users alike.
Planned features
Discussion boards
Rating system
Favorites/bookmarking system
.. much more ...
Community Building and Management
Aside from being able to upload new content, registered users can comment on just about anything. I'll also be adding discussion boards soon(ish). All of this means there's great potential for community discussion, interaction, and collaboration. It also means there may be a lot to monitor to make sure people aren't abusing the site. I'll be looking for moderators to help keep an eye on things. Please let me know if this is something you might be interested in doing.
Adding Icon Sets
I'm in the process of adding as many icon sets as possible. I've written an automated system to upload icon sets in bulk, so let me know if you have an icon set you would like me to add. Please include a preview picture, URL of the set's home page, and a link to download the icons.
Many icon sets have threads here on XDA, and people often contribute icons not made by the original set's author. It's harder for me to upload those since I can't do them mass like the full set. I could use help adding individual user-contributed icons. Just be sure to create an artist page for the poster if one doesn't exist already.
Adding Artists
Artists work hard on their icons, so it is very important to give them credit and link back to their profiles. In order to do this, please help create artist pages (must be registered on the site) as you add icons to the site. Be sure to include the URL of their main profile page. Each artist page will display a little about the artist, as well as their latest icon sets and individual icons.
If you are an artist, be sure to create a page for yourself (must be registered on the site) so that you can manage your page's content. If there is already a page for you on the site for your work, let me know so I can set you as its author and give you access to change it.
Adding Apps
One of the great things about IconDatabase.net is that you can easily see and filter all of the available icons for specific apps. Part of setting this up is specifying what app(s) each icon belongs to. I'm doing my best to figure out a decent automated system to handle this, but in the meantime, I could use help with editing icons and adding the app(s) they belong to. If you do not see an app listed on the site, feel free to add it (must be registered on the site.) Just be sure to use the "add an icon" link once the page is created to add the official icon.
In conclusion ...
Let me know if you have any questions or requests. The site is definitely in its early stages, and I will be adding features and info pages based on your feedback.
Sorry for the double post, but I figure it's time for a bit of an update.
Since my initial post, I've figured out how to automate a lot of things, which has allowed me to start populating a lot of the content (i.e. upload sh--tons on icons!). As of this post, IconsDatabase.net lists 43 different sets, for a total of 16,000+ icons! I'm adding more each day.
You can now follow the latest icon sets added to the site via RSS.
I'm also starting to dive into Android development, and will look at building an app to easily select icons from a launcher for quick theming.
Looking forward to getting people's thoughts.
Another quick progress report...
I've added basic discussion boards to the site. That's by no means the most important feature, but I figured I'd get a little community interaction going, or at least the potential for it.
You can also subscribe to pages now to receive emails when they are updated or a new comment is posted. This should be especially useful for artists that want to be instantly notified of comments posted to their page or icon sets.
I may add a "request an icon" to the site soon(ish), whereby you could directly request icons for a specific app in an icon set and the artist could review the most requested apps to know what to work on next. I could also use this to generate a global "most requested apps" page so artists know what to start with for new sets.

Yeah, if it's not mobile friendly, then it would kind of defeat the purpose. It should be even more friendly within the next few months as I learn my Android programming and develop the companion app. Then all you'll have to do is select the app and browse to the icon you want when editing launcher icons.
New Ideas (need feedback)
I'm playing around with a new new ideas, and would like to know how people feel about them, and which features you would like to see implemented first.
Ratings
I'll probably be adding a 1-5 star rating system for artists, icon sets, and icons. This should be pretty easy. You'll also be able to sort things by rating.
My Apps
I'm thinking of letting people flag apps that they use. This way you could see a quick list of all your favorite apps.
Personal Custom Sets
Say you like the Gmail icon from one set, but you like the Shazam icon from another. Personal Custom Sets would let you combine icons into a single set.
Download Launcher Icon Packs
This would let you download auto-generated launcher packs and apks for easy installation on your phone. You could do this for official icon sets, or for personal custom sets (described above.)
Thoughts?

Thanks for taking the time to let me know in what order you'd like to see features implemented.
I'm sure I'll be able to figure out the icon pack structure, but if you want to send some code (or links to tutorials) my way, it'd save me the 60 or seconds of searching I'd have to do.
I agree that the site's design is horribly lacking. I'm a programmer, and am not very good at design. What I need most is design mockups (PSDs for example) that I can translate into the site's template. I like the idea of a Holo color scheme. If anyone wants to take a crack at a design, I'd be most grateful, and would of course give them credit in the site's footer.
P.S. DSaif, I take it those three icon sets you uploaded are actually icon backgrounds that style existing icons?

Thanks for taking the time to let me know in what order you'd like to see features implemented.
I'm sure I'll be able to figure out the icon pack structure, but if you want to send some code (or links to tutorials) my way, it'd save me the 60 or seconds of searching I'd have to do.
I agree that the site's design is horribly lacking. I'm a programmer, and am not very good at design. Apex Launcher Tutorial (the same will work for Nova Launcher)
I want to contribute to the site's design.
Yes, they're just backgrounds which automatically theme every icon. It's called iconback & iconupon feature. I took that approach because it's hard to theme every icon and users are not satisfied. I'll start making special icons for home screen soon. Will take Holo Icons and style them.

Thanks for the tutorial link. I'll check it out.
I'd love to see what you come up with for site design. I want to keep the basic layout I've got now, so the main thing I need help with is choosing colors and figuring out how best to style things like input elements, accent colors, etc. If you want to throw up a couple mockups I'd appreciate it, and once we settle on something, having the CSS already done in snippets I can paste doesn't hurt. Thanks for your interest in this.

Thanks for the thoughtful review. Will definitely take your suggestions into consideration. What about starting with the icon set page?

Yes, I think something like that would be much better. One of my friends who I showed the site too was so confused and lost as to the front page setup.
Edit: I see the front page has been updated. It looks great. I have updated the article to show this.
great idea
this site is a great idea, thank you for setting it up!
Is it possible to help upload new sets? I would be great to include the "Prada 3.0" icons from here:

I've created an easy(ish) method of uploading sets, but as of now it involves FTPing things and directly modifying a script I wrote. I'll push it into a proper module for the site at some point. Until then, I''ll just keep upping things as fast as I can.
I'll add the icons you requested.
