What Can I Use To OC Rogers? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Running Haykuro's Rogers ROM. I tried the OC apps on the Market, but they don't seem to work on Rogers. They will temporarily work, but then the processor drops back down to default.
Is there an app that for sure works, or am I going to have to run a script through the terminal or something?
Thanks in advance.

have you tried using setcpu? There is a terminal command...somewhere in the development section

wireless tether

Hello I am having an issue with wireless tether 1.6. On any of the sprint 2.1 roms I try it freezes my phone and reboots when I stop tethering. Was wondering if there was a fix I didn't see when I looked around. It works fine until I go to stop. The only Rom I can get it to work is the my touch 3g port.

Sounds like you have bigger problems if the only rom you can get to work is the mytouch port.
When you flash a rom, go into the Wipe menu and wipe everything except battery stats.
If it still doesn't boot repartion the SDcard to Fat ONLY.
If it still doesn't boot, you have some issues somewhere.
I took care of a lot of stupid issues I was having by running the 2.1 RUU and re-rooting and flashing the rom again.

I've been having the same problem. It works just fine until I want to stop using it then it locks my phone, doesnt reboot though. It will sit there locked for 30 minutes if I let it, I have to pull the battery and reboot
There was a market update this morning though, haven't tried it yet with the new version.

I don't think he meant the mt3g is the only rom he can get to work. I think he meant mt3g is the only rom that wireless tether works properly on..

Are you running kernel .29?
I'll go even futher...are these kernels SDX kernals?
Edit: And even though it does freeze my phone if i stop it...its still a tether. and i love my phone being over clocked. so if i have to restart my phone instead of stopping the tether, its a small price to pay!
I am running the toast oc kernel. And yes I meant the tether only works on the mt3g. I ran the oc kernel on the 2.1 roms also that's actually when it started. I went from the oc mt3g Rom to aloysius 2.1 oc version and it quit working. So now I'm back on the oc mt3g Rom .

Well i think most ROMS run the .29 kernal while mt3g runs the .65 kernal. Sounds like its the .29 kernal.

Try this one it works like a charm xP.
and of course make sure your rooted
Edit:
Ive had problems in the past with wireless tether for root. this one works like advertised and works wonders no hot phone either
Ok Tyvm ill have to recover and install it then see if it works. And the kernel says .29 on the mt3g Rom so its the same one on both.
What I usually did to solve this was close the app with a task killer and it was ok with me. It's a known issue. However the problem I'm experiencing now is that If I want to change the SSID Name or any setting in the WI-FI app it takes me to a black screen labeled SU Permission? Suggestions anyone? oh and btw no one can see my her0 =/ help!
It works fine for me. I've used it several times and never had it lock up on me when I tried to stop it. I'm running the newest Damage Control 2.09.01 and android-wifi-tether 1.6.

I've always had trouble with 1.6 seems to work great for some people i linked the one for 2.0.2 same version for the evo and it works great even had a battery temperature shown in the program
Well the 2.02 doesn't work either. It freezes as soon as I give it root access.

Actually, the my touch rom uses .29 kernel, but version 65, the others are like version 83 or something. Only basic difference is no bfs or comp cache

[Q] Awaking from sleep mode takes awhile. Normal?

I didn't know how else to title this thread, so I'm hoping this makes sense.
Awhile ago I flashed the CM6 ROM to my Hero. I haven't added much to it, nor adjusted any of the settings. However, when my phone is not plugged in and getting charged, when I hit the End Call or Menu button to bring it from sleep mode, it takes it almost 2 seconds before the lockscreen appears.
I know that a stock Hero will awake from sleep mode almost instantly. And, when I had a previous 1.5 ROM flashed, it took the phone about maybe 1.2 seconds to awake. Is this normal or is there something that I'm missing that is causing this lag? I haven't really installed any misc apps, and I only removed some "bloatware" from the phone (safely, and ones that don't cause FCs).
Any help or suggestions is appreciated.
I know that overclocking a rom adds lag to waking up the lock screen. Did you flash a overclocked kernel or have you had this issue since flashing this rom?
I believe, when I flashed this new ROM, I reverted back to a normal clocking speed. I used to have an OC kernel of 710, but could've sworn I've gotten it back to stock.
Is there a way to get it back to stock speed, if I didn't revert it back, tho?
Bump.
Is there a way to revert the kernel back to stock?
Option
1. If you have OC kernel install, either use setCPU or Overclock widget to set your min and max.
2. If you running ASOP rom, I'm not sure ASOP ROM comes with stock Kernel or OC Kernel. If it come with stock you may just flash the ROM again w/o wiping data, might have to wipe dalvik cache and it should revert back to stock kernel. If it comes with OC kernel, then option 1 would be best.
my .2 cent hope it helps.
Unfortunately, OverClock Widget didn't do anything to fix the problem. :/ And, if it can't fix it, I don't think that paying for SetCPU will fix it either.
Is there a way I can download the stock kernel?
You cab download setcpu for free here on xda or from their website
I forgot what file it is that changes the CPU speed, but I would look into modifying that file. I also have this problem with cm6 8/17 nightly, but did not have the problem with the early test releases

Thanks a lot, I'm giving it a shot now. I do have a question, tho: when I ran SetCPU, it said that root access was not detected. Is there a trick I have to do with the phone to have SetCPU recognize the phone? I have done some searching, but haven't found much. I tried checking on SuperUser, but it doesn't list SetCPU in it. Plus, when I tap on "Log", it crashes.
Is my phone messed up or something?

Overclocking CM7

OK. So I am sure I am missing something obvious here. I've done a ton of searching and reading, but I'm still at a bit of a loss.
I am running CM7 with dalingrin's OC kernel flashed over the top of it. I see tons of people overclocking to 1.0 and 1.1 GHz, yet I can't seem to options for doing so.
In CM7 settings under performance, I have options for 100-950. I can O/C to 950 and that's great, but how do people try settings above that? I tried setCPU, but it seems to cap out at 950 as well.
What am I missing?
You need to get a different kernel, such as Dalingrin's, from the android development forum.
Hi,
Looks like you didn't successfully install the overclock kernel, see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925451
for instructions.
I have been using the CWM install method and am running CWM7 RC4 with
the interactive governor between 300 and 1100MHz.
I usually install the updated CM7 along followed by GAPPS then the
latest OC kernel. Perhaps you installed the kernel before CM7? CM7
comes with its own kernel that overwrites existing kernel when you install CM7.
Hope this helps,
Peter

That is odd. I have never had any issue like that with any of the oc kernels.
My one and only question is if you a sure you flashed the right one successfully?
http://nook.handhelds.ru/dalingrin/kernels/033111/
Note that there are 2 kernels for each ROM-
one is for internally installed (emmc)
One is for sd card installations (sd)
I do not know if any errors would show up if you flashed the wrong one or if there was an error with the download.
My suggestion would be to try again and see if it works.
My response may be too basic- I don't know your knowledge level.
One thing though- IN CM7 it is best to NOT use SetCPU or other apps to change cpu speed, or at least that used to be the case. I don't use them anymore.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. I was using the SD version, as I had a bootable CWM SD that I used to get into recovery. Once I loaded the emmc onto the SD card and flashed that, they showed up.
Thanks for all of the replies.
Nice!
Glad I was able to help-
Usually I am just getting all kinds of info and help for my own stuff here. Being able to pay that back is a good thing.
Be sure not to flash a cm7 nightly after you flash the kernel. If you do, you will flash there stock cnn kernel over the oc'Ed kernel

Actually a good point-
Nothing wrong with updating to the latest nightly but you WILL go back to having the stock CM7 kernel again.
Re-flashing the oc kernel fixes that problem, of course, but you'll need to reset max cpu speed and governor again.

[Q] Noob-ish question about stock ROM

I was on CM7 Stable with the 4/12 OC kernel, but the video issues were a dealbreaker.
So, I wiped everything and went back to stock just to see if videos were actually better. The difference is night and day, but I digress.
The sub-1000 Quadrant scores had me longing for the OC kernel again, so I flashed it and downloaded SetCPU from here.
The problem: it won't let me sideload SetCPU. I've tried it through CWR and even tried Easy Installer using the APK with no success.
I know that usually you just go into Settings > Applications and select "Allow non-Market apps", but there's no such option in 2.1....
So, is there a way to do it?

Trying to remember... but seems it may be in NookColor Tools on that.
donot use setcpu with cm7! cm7 has the settings for the kernel in the settings menu.. thats probably whats wrong with your install.

I'm not on CM7 anymore. Rooted stock now.
I'm using NoFrillsCPU in the meantime since it's free. Is there any advantage to SetCPU?

no, but on stock its in a app called NookColor Tools, it should be installed already.

[Q] Installed CM7, Now Milestone Overclock Won't Load.....

I have a Milestone, rooted with Universal Androot, and then I switched over to CM7 last night. Now, I can't get the overclock apps to work. I have tried Milestone Overclock, and it says "Failed to load module". I also tried Android Overclock and it won't overclock either? Suggestions?
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling apps, tried rerooting with Z4Root, and a few other things.
I remember having this issue once about 6 months ago, when I switched to a new ROM, and it turned out to be my root didn't unlock Nand. But now I can't find a simple method for Nand Unlock on a rooted phone.
Me too
but i use Motomizer , It work for me =)

I thought CM7 already came overclocked? You can even change all the settings (min/max/governor) from the performance/processor menu...
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
try overclocking via OR. however - as it was said - CM7 is already rooted and overclocked so do you want an extreme overclock or underclock?
I've had the most stability from the overclock kernels in ROM manager, but SetCPU has always worked, too. At least, when I turn up the clock speed, the phone gets hotter (my bottleneck is usually the RAM it seems). It's worth the money to just buy.
I recently update to CM7 from stock 2.2 and noticed that as well.
I suggest removal of Milestone Overclock, SetCPU in favor of CM7 included overclock as I noticed same performance gain and longer battery duration.
CM7 Already have overclock, you can configure it on Settings>CM Settings>Performance>CPU Settings...
that's what I was looking for....... apps only add to the bulk of your system... this CM7 is damn near perfect... thx.
All ROMs build from CM7 source from Kabaldan have an overclock dude just look around in the setting man if you want to overclok to 1200 MHz you need to edit 10overclock in system>etc>init.d (with root explorer, yes manually) because CM7 is overclocked to max 1 GHz

Hi! You mean you were able to overclock your phone with MOTOMIZER? can you give me the steps? i cant seem to make it work. Thanks!
If you are using any of kabaldan's CM, there is no need to you any app for overclocking.
There is a script in the /system/etc/init.d/ folder called 10overclock .
You can edit the frequencies and the voltages too.
Edit it only with linux tools or on your phone with a file manager. (Windows handles the end-of-line differently)
